Maybe we should list off the shit we do/want to do that isn't combat?

Aye. Hence my proposing Sayaka prioritize copy targets relevant to construction of a constant effect 24/7 wide range cleansing source.

I should mention though that skill takes practice with regard to Sayaka surpassing us all as Onmurs plan brings up. Sayaka can have every powerset ever, but she still has the same timeframe to practice them and the best fighting necessitates techniques that can be performed unconsciously. Maybe she should focus on 2 sets of 2-3 powers each for combat and save the rest for as needed/out of combat? If you're going into your conscious mind to think about all the options you have for beating the daylights out of somebody, you will get the daylights beaten out of you by someone who isnt.

I'd say Brave Shine just because it's a really good song but the Unlimited Blade Works anime came out after 2011.

I think that the current crop of responses is the wrong approach.

This:
"She... I dunno," Sayaka says. "I know you said that fighting isn't everything, but... ugh. I made my Wish so I could stand with you, you know?"
Sayaka is doubting her wish.

Read that again. Whatever interpretation we have, she intended it as "I want to fight by Sabrina's side". She said it as "be useful", but she thought it as "fight".

I worry that, if we continue the course of focusing on the word of the wish against the intent, she's going to reject her wish.

Not sure how to act on this, though.

[] Sayaka does stand with you. But the things you're fighting are bigger and stranger than she imagined.

Maybe?

There's a problem in which Mami, Sabrina and Homura were already a pretty OP team. There's no readily available space for a Sayaka in there; we basically got everything covered already.

What can Sayaka do to make herself a spot on the team? Fight Witches? We've been neglecting Witch hunting, but not because it's hard. Notice how Sabrina holds back on her Grief skills so other meguca can contribute.

Maybe we can tell Sayaka about the plan to reconcile Kyouko and Mami... though Sayaka is Sayaka, so that might not be the best idea... and we should put some emphasis on Walpurgisnacht, perhaps. It's the supremely important fight we've got to get through.

And she thought it as fight because that's the only way she could think of to be useful. When her only debt was to Hitomi she tried paying it by carrying her bags, not by finding someone Hitomi wanted punched and punching them.

Addressing the possibility of Sayaka wanting to be useful to us as a fighter idea.

[]If it becomes necessary to build an empire from Mitakihara to ensure magical girls have what they need, you will have the battle you desire.

How about this for an approach (would need pruning down):

[] Sometimes it's not as easy as wishing, is it?
-[] Discuss with Sayaka her spot on the team, bringing up the problem that we already had a full team dynamic that covered all our bases; Sayaka has no place in the old Mami-Sabrina-Homura team.
-[] Propose to Sayaka that she needs to find a way to be useful. Her Wish gave her infinite potential such that we believe she will surpass all of us one day, but here and now?
-[] That old Mami-Sabrina-Homura team must be rendered obsolete, replaced by a Mami-Sabrina-Homura-Sayaka team, which includes qualities that only Sayaka can bring to the table, and serves more functions.
-[] Honestly tell Sayaka about the qualities we admire in her.

[] Propose ideas for Sayaka to be useful:
-[] In relation to the incoming influx of lost, desperate, angry Magical Girls, Sayaka would be an excellent choice of peacekeeper.
-[] In regards to Walpurgisnacht: It will raze Mitakihara to the ground if we let it.
--[] We are confident in that we can take her down, but the collateral damage stands to be inmense. Sayaka is in a prime position to figure out how to fight the threat while minimizing collateral damage.
--[] We need as many strong fighters as we can get. That includes Sayaka, ergo, training. But if we can get Kyouko to help? Great. If we can help Oriko to help? Also great. But both Sayaka and Homura put a stopper to that, but it's for the good of the city.

Oh yeah, what would have kyouko advise us about our pathetic melee abilities? "dont give me that caster build bullshit, just do better! "

Can we use grief as nanomachines to stim our meatpuppet? ....or just get better at magically enhancing it.

[] Sayaka, this is like the Justice League. You're Batman.
-[] Which is to say, you're here to be ready to take any of the rest of us down if we suddenly turn evil
--[] Especially me. I want you to have anti-Sabrina contingency plans in case I get mind-controlled, or start to show signs of cackling and hatching villainous schemes.
---[] Disregard the name of the Mobile Oppression Fortress

... okay, Sayaka really needs some perspective here. Sabrina is an extreme outlier. Being hyper-competent and OP right out the gate wasn't going to happen. Kyouko, Mami, and Homura sure as heck didn't start off as badass as they were. They were probably around her level, or maybe even worse. Homura almost keeled over in exhaustion after beating up a can with a golf club. And look at them now. Yeah she has shortcomings, but that's the point of this training. So that she can get better, find her niche, and stand with the rest of the group. Walpurgis is still a long ways off. And after Sabrina has the rather difficult task of changing the entire magical girl system as we know it. So yeah, Sayaka with her power of copying ALL THE POWERS can definitely help the group out.

It also kind of feels like you guys are being too logical minded about this. As in checking off a mental check list.:V

Sayaka has no place in the old Mami-Sabrina-Homura team.
That dynamic existed for less time than Sayaka has been a magical girl. It's not some long-established institution with carefully developed synergies that she's looking to break into here, it's three individually powerful people who decided to fight adjacent to each other for social reasons.

[] Discuss Sayaka's spot on the team, bringing up the problem that we already had a full team dynamic with Mami and Homura: We need to create a new, expanded team dynamic which includes Sayaka and what she can bring to the table.
-[] Her wish gave her infinite possibilities, such that she might surpass us all one day, not an actual role.

[] Tell Sayaka about the qualities we admire in her, and discuss her possible roles in the team.
-[] Bring up the need for peacekeeping amongst Magical Girls in the near future.
-[] Spreading Clean Seeds to other groups out there.
-[] Walpurgisnacht:
--[] She's training for this.
--[] We need to beat her with minimal collateral damage.
--[] Recruiting.

[] Reassure Sayaka that she's far more capable than any regular newbie meguca.

[] Greet Mami with spinhugs and declarations of being happy and having missed her.
[] Training's off to a good start.
[] Karaoke!
-[] Have a duet with Mami!

And who well and truly covered all areas a Magical Girl team need to cover in a fight. Sayaka's not gonna 'earn' herself a place in the team by being able to kick ass. As long as she's set in thinking asskiciking=worth... well, that's not going to work.

Not really a full vote, but I think this is a good place to build the initial response off of.

Misery shared is misery lessened.

[X] Sayaka shouldn't feel too bad about not being there yet. Everybody feels like what we have isn't really our full potential. Mami, Homura, You? We all see just how much farther we have to go and we're all still working, hard, to get better.
-[X] The real difference is that everyone else got here early. Even you basically cheated on the test. There's nothing to be ashamed of in being worse than someone who's been doing this hundreds of times longer than she has. Soon enough it'll be tens of times longer, then eventually two or three times longer.

The core idea here is that 1: Sayaka is running around as the newbie in a pack of veterans --- even Sabrina has knowledge and power beyond her age --- and 2: Everybody's felt the way she does now at some point, she's just not there to see it.

"Even we cheated on the test" chosen because it ties into the full breadth of our metaknowledge, but does not require it. Even with what we reveal publicly we have a pretty impressive amount of knowledge about magical girls

Not sure how to pin it down right now but, something about this feels a bit... corporate boardroom-y.

Any of us individually did that. If Homura needed a niche filled she'd be dead by now, Mami is actually better off fighting alone than with people to show off to, and we're to witches as Doctor Manhattan is to baryonic matter. Where we cover each other's weaknesses is off the battlefield.

That too.

Remember we're talking about Sayaka.

Sabrina, Mami and Homura are not looking to to become great asskickers so as to have self worth... Their self worth problems go in other directions.

Sayaka seems to feel she needs to contribute in fights in order to have worth, and she might be realizing she won't get that because Homura, Sabrina and Mami don't need that help.

This will become specially true if Sayaka see any of the three cutting loose. She was impressed by Prima Luce, and that doesn't compare to some of the bullshit our team can do.

I'm sorry, but this does not address Sayaka's problem at all.

She's not gonna feel better if we tell her to not worry, that she's comparatively better than most meguca. She's got this team, and it's this team she needs to live up to, and not somewhere in the far, uncertain future, but right now.

Not sure how to pin it down right now but, something about this feels a bit... corporate boardroom-y.
I would elaborate, but I'd go over the 150 words twice over.

I agree. That's why I'm advocating talking about ways to contribute outside of fights. Going off about team dynamics and how she needs to figure out how to contribute to fights is the exact wrong direction to go.

Let me clarify, when I say 'We need to create a new, expanded team dynamic which includes Sayaka and what she can bring to the table', I do not mean 'how to contribute to fights'.

I'm keeping in mind what's been said, and Sayaka's wish gives her
infinite possibilities
pertaining to fights or not.

When talking about in which ways Sayaka could expand our team, I brought up ideas both which regard fighting and not:
-[] Bring up the need for peacekeeping amongst Magical Girls in the near future.
-[] Spreading Clean Seeds to other groups out there.
-[] Walpurgisnacht:
--[] She's training for this.
--[] We need to beat her with minimal collateral damage.
--[] Recruiting.
Three of these ideas have to do with fighting, some more than others, and I think 'peacekeeping' is actually one that's specially good for Sayaka while being light on the 'fighting' aspect. The other two ideas are more about social challenges.
