Sabrina sings an orchestra.
Put grief in our throat and have the orchestra actually issue from our mouth. :V

we are the best at karaoke!

Sabrina can change the albedo of her Mobile Oppression Fortress by strictly using grief mechanics instead of making it witchy. That same technique would allow a DVD player to read divots in a grief disk. We must abuse this to make a Grie-V-D of future songs. Like the Cake Song. Confusing people is easy, confusing people by hearing themselves sing a song they've never heard before... that is an artform.
Kazumi looks confused.
Mami winces and says "oh, Sabrina..."
Sayaka groans in exasperation.
Homura just folds up in her chair, finally losing the will to live.

So... would it be crass to remind Kyouko to not waste Grief Seeds to starvation in front of Sayaka? :V

I'd rather just ask if we can meet up with her sometime tomorrow, pick a spot on our calendar, and talk with her about it. She's responsible for Yuma, and as long as we couch it in those terms I don't see why we can't go over the hypothetical "what happens if Sabrina isn't in town or something" with her at lunch and lichbomb her for safety while we're at it.

ANYWAY, the point was that Kyouko would've fucking witched out by now if not for our visits, which is pretty obvious from her grief state every time we come over. There was some discussion and it seems that generally, Kyouko is starved out of Kasamino by, like, a week or a week and a half ago, and forced to go to Mitakihara, Mami or no.

This presents the plausible issue of the Sakura Church. If Firn considers its demolition "canon", then it follows that most likely, Kyouko never hears about it in 99% of timelines, because she is starved out of Kasamino before the fliers she found get distributed. Given the impact it had on her (She actually let out a "I hate myself, I killed my family" to us before clamping her mouth shut), it seems plausible that it could cause a grief spiral in combination with the lack of witches.

Getting her into Mitakihara, however, is... problematic. It only really works when she's honestly starved out and is forced to seek help from Mami. We're kind of in the way of that.

The option of "have Sayaka handle it" is not something I approve of. To an extent, letting Sayaka deal with this is easy and OK.

But it hits all the wrong notes.

Yuma begged us to help Kyouko. Kyouko let slip that she hates herself and killed her family (from her POV). The classical magical girl response to those things is not "let somebody else handle it," the proactive response to "guca starving, hates herself, hunting for two" is not "don't address it directly and swiftly."

Arguably Kyouko is worse off for our existence. If not for us, she would've taken Yuma and headed for Mitakihara and Mami already, and if Mami was alive she would've taken them in happily.

The screwy thing is that at this point, if we skip a day or two of visiting Kyouko, there's a very real chance she'll witch.

Could we just ask Kyouko and Yuma to hang out closer, under terms of "you're effectively homeless and schedules can be tight on our end. It'd be easier to visit and pay you for more and more training sessions and other favors if you weren't so far."?

Hell, I'm hoping that we can eventually invite them to live in the spare room at Mami's place, but I don't think that we're there yet.

I'd rent them an apartment in town if we had valid I.D. Maybe we could offer them Oriko's apartment hideout?

We have to get them to fucking agree to any of it, and it's difficult. I'd rather we hold the Nakano stuff for now and come back for a real talk with her tomorrow instead of just casually mentioning it. I dunno.

I think the answer there is to not do it casually. Ask Sayaka to pull Yuma aside for a few minutes, or just straight-up privacy sphere the thing, and then have a serious conversation about it with Kyouko. Biggest thing I'd be worried about is damaging the good mood that Kyouko's going to be in after this, which is actually big enough that I'd prefer to save this for next session. This is probably the happiest Kyouko's been in literally months.

Doubtful. Kyouko's too stubborn and prideful to take charity or beg, even with Yuma in tow. If she wasn't, we wouldn't be having such a hard time getting her to accept our help.

We've seen Kyouko come to Mitakihara in a number of timelines, and it's usually to try and take over, not to ask for help. Even in Different Story where Mami is still alive, Kyouko comes in and kicks the shit out of Sayaka to try and take over their territory.

We have to get them to fucking agree to any of it, and it's difficult.
Hence why I said we're "not there yet."

I haven't been watching the thread lately, just reading the story posts, so this might have already been answered but @Firnagzen, will you be using characters from Magia Record?
Maybe. I'm waiting for a translated overview on the story before committing to anything.
If we're allowed pick multiple songs for each person, I want one of Madoka's to be Genkai Toppa Ignited, just for the voice actor reference. The reactions if she sings it perfectly will be hilarious.
@Firnagzen if we choose the songs are we restricted by release year?
Yes, if you want to find it in the karaoke selection. Making the music with Grief instruments isn't out of the question, granted.
I don't think you need to very concerned about making sure all the songs are in japanese. Japan kind has a thing for the west so I wouldn't be surprised if Karaoke bars had english songs as well as japanese.
Yep, they do.

No-thought-given ideas for Hammertime usage
1) Triple wield (teeth)
2) Octuple wield (that 8-tails guy in Naruto)
3) Hundred-Wield (that Samurai guy from Soul Eater)(tldr he throws a pile of swords everywhere with enough density that there's always a sword close enough to grab whereever he goes (within an arena))
4) Swing the hammer and have the head detach.

Conjure hammers. All the hammers.

Shoot them towards Sayaka telekinetically, like Kyouko can do with her spears. (Or throw them with nano-grief. It's not cheating if you aren't using it to attack or defend directly, or even move, after all).

UNLIMITED HAMMER WORKS

"Here I come, Sayaka. Do you have enough powers in stock?"

You mean it's not cheating if you don't get caught.

More seriously, I'd say only do that if we get teased for sucking at melee. Remind they why we don't need melee, ya know?

-[X] Telepathically, privately bring up the Nakano thing.
I think that we need to consider this a bit more carefully.

First, is this the right time? This training session is probably the best thing that's happened to her, psychologically, since she picked up Yuma. I really don't want to ruin Kyouko's good mood; let her enjoy this for a while. From the perspective of giving Kyouko a reason to keep living, I'd prefer to push the discussion to Wednesday. But do we have the time to do that? Kyouko is getting kinda fucked up by the church thing. I also don't know how long the good mood would last in the first place, so interrupting it may have a smaller expected penalty than it'd appear - she'd only be losing a few hours of satisfaction rather than an entire day.

Second, I would prefer doing this a lot more seriously. Maybe not full privacy-sphere, but Yuma needs to be gone so that Kyouko is free to react and talk about how she feels.

Hmm. How about...

[] Quietly get Yuma's opinion on timing - you have information for Kyouko that's important but will bring up bad memories, and you don't want to ruin the good mood she's in. Does she think you should tell Kyouko now, or hold off until Wednesday?

[] After training...
-[] If Yuma thought it was a good idea, send her off with Sayaka and talk to Kyouko about Nakano.

I'm reaaaally iffy about putting this decision on Yuma's shoulders. She is the smol, after all.

EDIT: Also, we might cut a good mood short, but is that worse than holding back on this?

That's why I'm thinking of pulling in Yuma for this; she has a much better idea of how much trouble Kyouko is having and how much damage we'll actually be doing to Kyouko's good mood. She is the smol, but she's a smart smol; she specifically asked us to work to help Kyouko at one point, remember?

I think that we could just ask Yuma how Kyouko is doing and try to make our decision using that information, but I also think that Yuma will notice what we're doing and we might as well just ask her directly. Wouldn't be the first time she's done it.

It's pressure Yuma shouldn't have to deal with. We're the 'adult' who should be making these choices.

I know it sucks getting heavy news when you're in a good mood, but it sucks every time. To me, this amounts to stalling.

Let's say we don't tell Kyouko now. We call her later today and tell her about Mika. Talking, Kyouko finds we had kept Mika waiting since an update ago. Kyouko gets angry that we're treating her with kid's gloves. Also, we make Mika wait.

I'd rather just do it.

Err... atleast let Sayaka finish her training session first.

It's just a matter of presenting the situation in a sensitive and appropriate fashion.

"Knock, knock"
"Who's there?"
"Richguca"
"Richguca's whose family is about to knock down your dad's church!"
