Well, fuck. We'd better check with Niko and warn her that she might be being followed.

(Also, the tally is borked again.)

[X] Thank Nadia, she's cool. Include Mami in group chat, if she's not busy. We're happy to recieve the Shiogami girls.
-[X] Welcome them. Be sympathetic.
[X] Telepathy Niko. Did she have someone else with her when she came to meet us?
-[X] If not, warn her that she was being followed.

[X] Telepathy Oriko. Ask about the warehouse, and general housing advice.
[X] While traveling, confirm the length of the Pleiades stay.
-[X] Surreptitiously offer Kazumi cleansing. Be insistent. (She owes you a hug.)
-[X] Explain your overall goals.
[X] Over lunch, help do introductions, and make sure Mami and Homura are comfortable and engaged. Discuss:
-[X] The Pleiades' powers, in the context of Sayaka's ability. Don't push.
--[X] Ask if Umika's『 S T A N D 』is『 Heaven's Door 』.
-[X] Attack names. Mention Cannone Picchio.
-[X] The incoming Shiogama girls and their housing situation.
--[X] Apologize that you can't give the Pleiades your full attention.
---[X] Do they want to tag along while you work out housing after lunch, or would they prefer to do something else?

That's odd...

It wasn't quite what I was paying attention to during my readings of PMKM so do we know if Satomi is close to Niko? Because she's the only other Saint that would be there. I suppose sheer absentmindedness on Kazumi and Niko's parts might explain what happened there, but it's still a bit weird she didn't come up to the roof.
From what I recall, the Asunaro Mental Health Squad™ usually hangs around Saki (she's ojou to one of them); Niko is the most reclusive of the bunch (which serves Kanna's ends nicely).

If I'm right about the meguca population being unusually high around these parts, she could very well have had a tail.

Niko's unlikely to spare us any attention, focused as she is right now. It'd be better to tell the Pleiades that are present right now about it, and ask whether it's normal or not.

Just because she's distracted by the Clear Seed doesn't mean she won't respond to a telepathic call. Kazumi managed to get her attention away from whatever she was doing before to get her to come meet us, after all.

On the subject of Meguca Lanterns, this was really bugging me:

Yellow Power Rings choose Yellow Lanterns based on their propensity to cause fear, not to feel it.
This is true. It's ridiculous, because it's inconsistent with every other color, but it's true.

It's not nearly as interesting as the idea of Yellow Lanterns always acting out of fear, either.

Breaking a solid down into particles small enough to be airborne doesn't turn it into a gas. They're two different states of matter.

i'm aware of that but…

Hmm...this does raise a few questions, though. Are Grief atoms a thing? Is Grief similar enough to matter to actually imitate a molecular structure?

Yeah. That.

If there are such things as grief atoms, there is nothing to worry about.

But if Grief doesn't imitate a molecular structure(Which it might not, since it's born from magic) that's where my question comes in.

If Grief doesn't imitate a molecular structure then it can behave more like an ideal gas than actual gases. I don't see how this is a problem.

Grief fog is just our grief marbles but smaller. There is no other physical difference. The thing that distinguishes our marbles from gas is the same thing that distinguishes fog from gas.

Though understanding their own fear does help alot.

Still works. Mami has incredible potential to cause fear, in witches and in magical girls, and can do so with a single word.
"Tiro...

I think Madoka Facts would be better if we could figure out a way to have her "Suprisingly" do something badass without wishing.

Like have her smack Kyuubey or something. "Smacks Type III Kardeshev Civilizations like they're bitches" is something she ought to want to put on her resume anyway.

Mami Tomoe facts?

EDIT: Something we totally should do in-universe?

inb4 we go on that guca IRC we got from Nadia and learn that it's already a thing

"Smacks Type III Kardeshev Civilizations like they're bitches"

QB's power is a hell of a lot more than the sum total energy of a single galaxy, in Firn's take of the setting. I don't think ascribing control over all mundane energy in the universe is particularly inaccurate.

Type IV at least, depending on what scale you're using (the original only goes up to three, the extensions differ in increment size).

Think you voted for Redshirt's plan, but I worry about spaces and your name is shorter :p. Saaaad about dropping the cute idea of a quest for a dress-gift (and pants), but if the Asunaro's are staying for a day or three we could just try and fit that in later hopefully.

Or see if Sayaka can grow them a house.
And finding an empty lot and having Sayaka grow some trees into a house. We should be able to hook anywhere we like up to plumbing and electricity by building our own pipes and wires.

Are you suggesting we have Sayaka basically create Konoha for them to live in? xD Feel like at that point it'd be rude not to ask the original girl to be First Hokage, Sayaka can be the Second (think he was the harsher one anyway).

Here, have this. It's short, but I'm planning on making a bit of a series of it.

Grief Rising - An Omake of the Grief Lantern Corp

------------------

In the small multiverse I call home, there are many strange things. Aliens who gain power from certainly frequencies of solar radiation...power that casually ignores mundane laws of energy conservation, I may add. Men who can reach the speed of light, on foot, by drawing upon a mysterious power that they call the "Speed Force," which makes no sense at all, let's face it. Ironically, it's a world where things make more sense when magic's involved, rather than less.

The Lantern Corps always existed in an odd space, in that particular continuum...their powers cannot truly be called technological, because mundane physics doesn't ascribe any substantial power to human emotion, but they are explicitly not magical...a fact that the Guardians are rather insistent about, considering their historical relationship with magical forces, which I have experienced first-hand.

Of all that strangeness, though, I think the strangest thing is that which came to me in that alleyway, so many years ago.

--------------------

"Mom! Dad! N-no! Please..."

I knelt over the corpses of by parents, my heart breaking even as terror grew...what was I supposed to do? I was just a child, and the two people that had been there, guiding me for all of my life...they were gone.

I felt something within me, at that time. Something black, and dark...a craving for vengeance and bloodshed that still hasn't quite faded, even to this day. In another life, maybe that feeling would have become my new compass. I don't know what I would have become, were that to have happened, but...I have met my counterparts, and I fear I can make a guess.

[̴́͟B̛͜ŗ̸͜u̕͏ć͠҉͠ę͠ ҉͞W̶̵͟͡a̵͡y͜͝n̶̨̛͞ȩ̶̡͟ ̶̸͘͠͡ǫ͢͞͝f̧̕͏͞ ̸̶̨̀͘E̷̛̕͟ą̀͏͝ŗ̸̀͝t̴̕͠h҉̵̢.̴̡]̴̡͢

That was when I heard that voice for the first time. It was...horrible. Like the tears of children and the screams of the damned had been rendered into simple words, and yet...yet it was more than that. It made perfect sense to me...but I didn't want to understand it. I didn't want to recognize it. I wanted to hide from it.

Even in those days, though, I was no coward.

̵̵̡͠[̵̢͠͏G̴̴̡̀r̵҉̷̡e̴̡̡͢a̸͞t͡͠ ҉̀G̡͜͟r̷͟͏̡͏í̢͟͜e̡͘f̷̕͡ ̵́̕ś̵p̵͡i̷͟͡͡r͡͡a̶̢̢̡̕l̨͡͡s̢̨͞ ̷͜͜͝w͘i̡͘͟͡t̨̢͟h̷̀̕i͏҉n̵̕͘͡ ̕͟͟ỳ̨͢͠҉o̡͝u͏̕r̷̵̛͝ ̛͏̴H̀͡e͞҉a̸̛̛͜͡r̶̨̛͘҉t̵̕͞͡.͠]̧̕
̀͝
"W-what? What are you...where are you..."

I searched around me, trying to find the source of that fearful noise...

͝[̵͝W҉̕͜i҉l̷ļ͏͟ ̵̛̀y͏̧͝ou͝ ̶̡͜g̢̀r̶͘͝a̡śp̷ ͝į͝t͏ ͘w̵í̡̧t̸̴h̴̀͡ ́́͘y̷̶ó̡͡u̴̧r͡͏ ̶̕ǫ͡w̷̵n ̶̴̡t̡͟w͟o̕͘ ̸̨́h͏á͜n͏d͜s͘͞?͞]͟

...and I did. A ring, floating in midair over my mother's corpse. The choice before me was a painful one. I didn't want to face it, I didn't want to live with it, but I knew that my pain, my Grief would always be there. I wouldn't wake up from the nightmare, so I could either let it torture me...or I could say yes, and try to conquer it.

In the end, my fear of suffering forever was greater than my fear of facing it right now.

"Yes."

͟[͏We͝lc҉ǫm͡e͘ ̀to ̴t̛h̶e̸ ҉Grie͝f ́Lan͜t͠ern Co̡r̨p.̛]

--------------------

That ring now rests on my finger. We've been together for a long time, now...and that Grief within my heart has become my wings. A life without hope...no life is easier to put to use, to give for a greater cause. Those other versions of myself, those "Batmen" drowned in their Grief, and chose to give themselves up to that black vengeance in their hearts. They are, despite that, generally good men.

Me, though? I chose something else.

I am not vengeance. I am not the night.

I'm the one who saves the living damned.

Call me Bruce. Call me Grief Lantern. Call me Nightmare. Call me Angel. Call me Devil. Call me whatever you want...

I'm here to help.

Here was my reasoning.
Kyoko: "That really pisses me off."
Nagisa: "Cheesecake!"
Mami: "I'm only acting cool. I'm afraid all the time."
Hitomi: "I'm willing to give you a chance to confess your love first. You've known him longer."
Madoka: "If anyone says it's wrong to hope, I'll just tell them they're wrong!"
Sayaka: "It's okay to use my wish for someone I care about, right?"
Homura: "Stop treating yourself like you don't matter! Don't you know how many people love you?"
Er, why is Madoka teal and Sayaka blue? Isn't Blue for Hope?

Then again, Madoka's defining trait isn't her hope, it's her compassion. Ironically, seeing as she becomes a goddess of hope.

Also, if anything, Homura would be Green. Her willpower is her defining characteristic--she endures a hundred loops of death, despair, and futility, only giving up when she's told that she's making everything worse by continuing to try.

The colors are off, but Teal isn't on the Spectrum, so that's supposed to be Blue, while Sayaka's Blue is meant to be Indigo.
