Mmm, yeah, "she's being a martyr ojou again" is definitely a good security reason to push for us going there, rather than them coming here, and sooner rather than later. The problem with Michiru's type is that the more she insists that she's fine, the more definitely she isn't. Only problem is that Michiru and Mami are both already agreed to the idea.

Also, she did answer the hunting question in a roundabout manner; her mentioning that being a magical girl takes up too much time for school implies that she may already be starting to run herself ragged trying to float all seven of them at once.

"So what I believe you were trying to say... is thank you."
"Thank you?!"
"You're welcome!"
"What?! No no no I didn't what what why would I ever?"
"Okay, okay... I feel what's happening here." "What."
"You're face to face with greatness, and it's strange.
You don't even know how you feel, it's adorable!
Well it's nice to see Meguca never change.
Open your eyes, lets begin:
Yes it's really me, it's Kyubee, breathe it in.
I know it's a lot, the ears, the face...
When you're staring at an Interface.
So what can I say except "You're welcome"?
For that Soul I ripped from your corpse
Hey it's okay, it's okay, you're welcome!
I'm just an ordinary Incu-guy - Hey!
What has two ears and disposes of full seeds,
since you were just a new-gal? This pal!
When your potential hits the mark,
who takes your wish and makes it spark,
you're looking at him, dork!
Oh, also I helped out your friends - you're welcome
bringing you Grief Seeds so it never ends.
Also I'd never tell a lie - you're welcome
to be sure I could but why would I try.
So what can I say except, "you're welcome!"
For that wish you got thanks to me!
There's no need to pray, it's okay, you're welcome!
Ha! I guess it's just my way of being me!
You're welcome!
You're welcome!
Well, come to think of it...
Kid, honestly I could go on and on, who can explain every Megu-phenomenon,
Witches, familiars and demons at that, I really don't get it it's simply a fact
You humans break entropy, why shouldn't you share,
Take one for the the universe, but what do I care
What's the lesson? What is the take-away?
I don't get emotions, don't read to much into me,
And the stories you've heard, the shows that you've seen,
it's all propaganda to make my work easier
Look where I've been I make everything happen,
Look at my spares just tippity-tappin and tappin and tappin and hey hey hey
Well, anyway let me say,"you're welcome" (You're welcome)
for the magical world you know!
Hey it's okay, it's okay, you're welcome! (You're welcome)
Well come to think of it I gotta go...
Hey, it's your day to say, you're welcome! (You're welcome)
Because I'm gonna need that grief!
I'm saying goodbye, goodbye, you're welcome (You're welcome)
'Cause Kyubee don't feel bad about a gloat!
(You're welcome) You're welcome! (You're welcome!) You're welcome!
And thank you!"

Is this to the tune of anything? Some song from an obscure musical or something?

Alright, seeing as we're talking around Kazusa hiding a grief seed issue at the moment, these are my rough points of order on time-stop running Asunaro right now.
  • We need to comfort Mami, who is torn up about the impact being a MG has had on Kazusa.
  • We should get Mami's opinion on whether Kazusa would hide something like a grief seed problem, Mami knows her better than us.
  • We should also then lay out our reasons we believe Kazusa may be hiding a problem, given how she dodged certain questions and our meta-knowledge, though we should step around the exact fate that Kazusa met for obvious reasons, just that it was related to her running out of grief seeds.
  • We need to get Homura's co-operation to do a time-stop flyover to check.
  • We want to talk to Mami about whether she wants to go, and probably take her, in case we do need to cleanse Kazusa. We do not want to stealth cleanse anyone without popping out to explain it, suddenly clear soul gems create misconceptions and lead to madness.
  • We may want to consider using this time to scout other potentials in the area, especially Yuuri who might still be alive, or if she isn't we know we need to ask the Saints about her witch so we can talk Airi down.
  • If we are doing all of the above, then we may just want to take Kirika as well and track down Hijiri, save ourselves some time later etc, though the argument for this is the weakest.
  • Generally we want to know about potential and active MGs in Asunaro that may not be accounted for.

I don't think we need timestop, if we can straight up arrange to meet up very soon.

[ ] Roll over Kazusa.
-[ ] Tell Kazusa she's right, seven magical girls is definitely too many for one city. If she doesn't even have time to go to school, she must be in dire straits.
-[ ] Ask Mami if Kazusa's the sort to hide her own problems.
-[ ] Tell Kazusa that Mami cares about her, so we care about her. Now, if her Soul Gem fills up completely, she will die, so we're very concerned about how she's avoiding our questions.
-[ ] Make arrangements to visit her tomorrow, or better, right now.

It would seem like a plan.

Either way, I think we need to be a lot more pushy with Kazusa. If we... respect her wishes, she'll end up taking far too many risks to herself than she should.

Agreed, though we should be preparing to do this tonight. We're definitely not at the end of the social rope just yet, but we want to press her on the issue. If we can't get a meeting set up in an acceptable timeframe, plan timestop is always going to be there. If we aren't time-stopping there and back, we don't need Homura now and we can see to Yuuri and Hijiri later, though I really don't want to leave that too long. Especially Yuuri. Whatever happens, I think we're taking Mami across to Asunaro tonight at the minimum.

We could just vote to prioritize what matters.

[ ] Be at little more pushy.
[ ] Make arrangements to meet up wherever, as long as it happens as quickly as possible. Offer ferry services.

I would prefer to simply offer to pick up the pantlessians tomorrow, and bring them back so we can all meet Mami at the school gates at the usual time.

[ ] Offer to pick up Kazusa and friends tomorrow while Mami's at school, and bring them over so we can all hang out after Mami's done with school. Insist.

The flip side of Kazusa's stubborn hiding of her own issues is that, as soon as we meet her alone, we can tell her everything. She won't tell a damned soul.

Why not just call her out on it? That would probably activate Mami's Momma Bear Mode and then we could tag-team her with peer pressure and make her admit to having trouble getting seeds, and set her up to have a Clear Seed by tomorrow or later depending on exactly how bad the situation is.

Besides, this conversation's been making Mami feel sad about abandoning Kazusa, and if there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that nothing obliterates sadness quite like anger.

We might want to re-emphasize the ways our powers can be used to alleviate Grief Seed shortage, then push a little harder on the subject of how she's doing for seeds. She might be trying so hard to hide how badly she's doing because she thinks nothing can be done to help her, at least not without using up resources that others will need.

I also think we should keep the "Let Mami spend as much time reconnecting with Kazusa as she needs" thing from the last vote.

Continued reflection:
"Yeah," you say, smiling at Mami's startled look. "I'm actually pretty new as a magical girl, even though I know a lot about the magical girl world."

"Lucky!" Kazusa says.
"And you have Miss Tomoe teaching you to help with the bits you don't know, too!"
Hmmmmmmmm. *pointed stare*

Actually, Oriko just said that Kazusa was still alive at the time she saw,not that she always would be. And there's always been the question of whether Oriko's visions could distinguish between the original Kazumi and her clone.
I'll admit I'd have to double check when I have time. Regardless, I think it's worth looking into Yuuri's situation if we can do so discretely.

In any case, I think it's better to stay on the friendly conversation track here: Michiru has dropped a lot of info on us, much more than she knows she has. Going forceful might make her clam up. (It's been said before that the best interrogator is the the subject trusts.)

Continued revision :

[ ] Keep gently guiding Mami and reassuring her.
- [ ] Quietly ask Mami if Kazusa is the type to hide a bad situation, especially out of politeness
- [ ] Ask her if she can keep her "friendly and cool senpai" face on regardless of her feelings: Kazusa trusts her and that's telling us a lot more about her troubles than we'd learn otherwise.

First part lets Mami know we know something's up too, and gives her an opportunity to discuss her fears.
Second part? See: The best interrogator is the one the subject trusts.

[ ]Segue from magical girl hardships into clear seeds
- [ ]Complain about our lack of testers for the prototypes
- [ ]Clear seeds have nuts capacity and just one or two could be enough for a whole city, depending on local politics.
- [ ]Pay special attention to whether Michiru mentions Yuuri.

Needing testers for our prototype science project instead of offering her a clear seed, again, makes it her helping us if she takes the hint.
Which changes Asunaro to a mentioning a generic city.

...We could also drop Hildegard by name: This would show we see clear seeds as people. Could be useful assuming Michiru is privy to the witchbomb. Problem is she might think Mami is privy to it too.

[ ] Tell the assembled group and Sayaka that Kazuza is willing to come to Mitakihara.
-[ ] See if they have questions or concerns
???-[ ] Introduce Homura and Sayaka to Michiru.

[ ] If Kazuza would like to visit Mitakihara, maybe you could ferry her over tomorrow? If bringing them over quickly wouldn't be too much imposition.
-[ ] Schedule the pickup at a convenient time. Suggest: for lunch, after lunch, just before school ends

For those who didn't see the edit the first time: Change to upper line switches focus: rather than them bothering us, it's us bothering them. If Michiru is trying to be polite she'd resist the former but not the latter.

[ ] Thank her for her time. Keep the conversation going for as long as it seems natural, letting Mami reconnect a bit more, but try and end it on a high note.

(wordcount: long, will need shortening come final vote. But that can wait 'til then.)

There's probably a lot more revision to be done, but this should be enough to present for discussion for now.

Well, since we are leaning towards being pushy, AND we just came off that discussion about being a delinquent...

how about we dress for... "exerting influence".

[jk]Make a few adjustments to you costume before you go.
-[jk] unbutton jacket
-[jk] take off undershirt
--[jk] replace undershirt with tomboyesque bandage bra
-[jk] pull out Yakuza Katana, dual wield it with warhammer
-[jk] make Grief Medical Mask and wear it.
-[jk] make Grief Hat That Somehow Is Also Your Hair
--[jk] Say "yare yare daze" a lot.
-[jk] instead of sitting, practice your squats
-[jk] Have "TEENAGE WITCH" in big bold English Letters go down the back of your coat.
-[jk] Make a toothpick that somehow always sticks out off mouth while talking... even through the Medical Mask

I think it's important to mention to Kazusa that we can cleanse/refresh/extend Grief Seeds, not just cleanse Soul Gems; we haven't done that yet. It's actually a perfect lead-in to why we think it's important to meet up ASAP, as it lets us talk about how wasteful it is to give full seeds to Kyubey instead of letting us refresh them.

Why don't we just invite Michiru to come do some witch hunting with us? Or suggest that Mami invite her.

Witch hunting, as seen with Nadia, is a potential social activity for magical girls. It's also a convenient source of grief seeds, which would be useful for Michuru if her bunch is starving, and asking her to come hunt witches with us gives her a useful pretext to come along and get some cleansing, without forcing her to ask us for charity. Just say, "hey, you know what sounds like fun? Group witch hunt! You bring your friends, we'll bring Mami, Mami will bring snacks. How soon can you be here? Do you need a ride?"

Bam, done. Gives her the option, if she's in trouble, to suggest we all meet up as soon as possible, without begging.

Then, when she's here, and everybody's having a good time, we strike we can talk about clear seeds and shenanigans.

Don't make things complicated.

"So, Kazusa Michiru, we finally meet."

Your somber tone was not what she was expecting, judging by her disconcerted expression.

It only takes her a moment to recover.

"Yeah! It's nice to meet you, miss Sabrina!"

You cross your arms, unimpressed.

"Well..." Michiru drawls, before turning towards your partner. "Hello Miss Tomoe, it's been too long!"

You cut Mami's answer short by stepping between the two of them, staring down at the red eyed girl. You abently notice Umika and Kaoru awkwardy sharing a look in the background, but you ignore them for now.

"So, Kazusa," you do away with all formalities, "you claim to be a friend of Mami's, right?"

To your mild surprise, she doesn't look offended at all. If anything, she stands up straighter, firmer as she answers "Yes!".

Mami squeezes your hand behind your back.

"And yet you haven't called her ever since you parted ways?"

The rethoric question strikes Kazusa like a physical blow. She opens her mouth, looking for words, but you press on.

"And now you come here intending for her to accept you, and not only that, you want to be my sempai?!"

Your accusation seems to finally break through the girl's facade; her head drops, her whole expression turning immediately sad.

You can see the two girls in the back getting angry, and hell, you can feel Mami's hand starting to shake, so you hurry up and bring your plan to a close.

"That is unnacceptable, Kazusa. Unless..." you draw out the word.

Kazusa perks up.

You grin. "Unless you pass my test."

The change is instantaneous.

Michiru's eyes lighten up like christmas lights, her hands clench into fists under her chin, and her smile threatens the split her face in half.

"A TEST?!" She squeals, jumping in place. "Oh, oh, what sort of test? What are we doing? One on one combat? Familiar killing competition? Showing off special attacks? One hundred push-ups, sit-ups and squats and running one kilometer the fastest? A pizza eating competition? A..."

You gape as the excited girls goes on and on, every new idea somehow crazier than the last.

You squeeze Mami's hand in reassurance and let go, stepping closer to Kazusa while making a calming gesture with your hands.

"Easy, easy!" you interrupt her latest idea 'Witch hunting in motorcycles?' and wait a few seconds for the girl to catch her breath. You notice you're smiling now, Kazusa's cheer being infectious, so you cough into your hand, and state gravely:

"No, Kazusa Michiru, none of those will be your test today. Instead, your test will be..."

Kazusa's body shakes, her red eyes fixed on yours, her breath stopped.

You open your arms.

"Hug me."

Kazusa blinks. Twice. Then again. And again.

"That's it?" she asks.

You nod as gravely as you can manage, making an effort to not blush.

"See, it is a special skill of mine," you explain, or rather, you make shit up as you go, "I can tell the character of any one person by their hugs, so this it the only-"

You have half a second to brace yourself before Kazumi crashes into you-

The shorter magical girl wraps her arms around you tightly, bodily picks up and spins you around three full revolutions.

You find yourself slightly stunned, your arms instinctively clamped around Michiru's shorter frame as she sets you back down on the ground.

A couple of snickers snap you out of it, you send an accusatory glance at Michiru's companions, but you cut that short when you hear a giggle coming from behind you.

Well, you can't be mad if Mami's laughing.

"So, did I pass?"

You bring your attention back to the girl still holding you, pressed against you with her face inches away from yours, her eyes shining and hopeful and...

And god, she's so cute.

"Yes!" You smile. You give her a squeeze and turn so you can look at Mami while still holding her. You feel more than see Kazumi also turning to follow your eyes.

"Mami, can we keep her?" you ask.

The Golden Magical Girl, Goddess of War and Cakes, Most Badass and Awesome Meguca in Japan instantly folds at the sight of yours and Kazumi's combined sheer cuteness.

"Uh- I, Y... Yes, yes we can!" she nods, a hopeful smile blooming from the corner of her lips.

You release Kazusa so you can pull Mami into a hug.

"Wait, wait, wait..." says Umika, her and Kaoru coming to stand at each of Michiru's sides. "This is our Kazumi, you can't have her," she claims, grabbing her by the shoulder. Kaoru nods.

"Magic," you say, letting go of Mami. You turn to see the three girls' puzzled expressions and explain, "with my powers, magic usage is basically free, so we can get megucas with teleporting powers to facilitate visits back and forth. Does that sound good, Mami, Kazumi-sempai, Miss Umika, Miss Kaoru?"

The red eyed girl is already nodding. "Yes, that sounds awesome! Imagine all the things we can do together! Like karaoke, and dancing, and bowling, and hunting, and..."

The other two girls sigh, though not uncontent. "I guess it's decided," says Kaoru.

Umika nods.

Mami presses herself against your side.

This looks like a start of a niiiiice friendship, you muse to yourself, smiling as the whole group starts walking towards Mami's apartment.

"We could have a soccer match!" exclaims Kazumi suddenly. "Pleiades vs... Ribbonettes...?"

"Ribonnettes?" blinks Mami.

"Well, I didn't catch your group's name..." explains the red eyed girl.

"Ah- we don't have a name yet... But I was thinking... Holy Quartet?"

"But there's more than four of you...?

A thought strikes you.

Homura for goalkeeper?

...

Yeah, Homura for goalkeeper.

I like that idea. We can get pushy if she's recalcitrant even given that too; but I still think we should mention to Mami that she seems to be dodging the question of her Seed situation in a way that suggests she might be in trouble.

"No, Kazusa Michiru, none of those will be yout test today.

Okay, I can see that actually happening for real.:V
