Only because she hasn't actually worked on her magic beyond 'gotta stop the world more effectively - faster, longer, better'. Her Magic Missile is still at lvl 1, for Madokami's sake.
I mean, sure, mastering Time Stop is impressive and useful, but she's dying to overspecialization here.
Well I mean, she's basically stuck with what she's got. She has the power to mess 1.5 months with worth of time, a hammerspace that doesn't seem to cost any magic to access, and the ability to bail to another universe once those 1.5 months are up. Considering how powerful that type of magic is, I'd be surprised if she could actually do any other magic besides the most basic magic. Her powers don't even give her a weapon to fight with, unlike almost every other Magical Girl.

New idea/curiosity point:

Have we tried hitting grief with our hammer/using it as a smithing implement?
IIRC we tried using our Grief as a press forge and it didn't even slow down. I don't know if our hammer would have any extra metaphysical crafting properties that'd be worth looking at.

For the record I am absolutely, totally convinced that "Madoka-dar" is within Homura's powerset if she works to unlock it.

Because come on.
Agree! The question now is how to convince Homura to try to activate it. Without causing mortification or anger. :p

We could probably set Madoka up with a sort of panic button. Press button, receive WIIIIIIIIIITCH strong enough to be felt within a mile's radius, stunning/disorienting any Magi attacker and giving us the signal to swoop down on them from timestop like the wrath of God.

[:V] But she does have a panic button.

If Madoka-dar causes Homura's hair to rise up and turn into an arrow pointing at Madoka...

...it will be entirely fitting and appropriate.

We want her to feel useful, guys, like part of the team. I don't think she'd feel useful with a protective ring only. She'd just feel like a Macguffin. Which is true, but we don't want her to feel like it.

Nobody actually expects her to beat us in a fistfight. Unless she unleashes some crazy tae-kwon-do shit, which would be hilarious.

With enough time, patience, enchanting experience, and a viable power source, we could possibly make a complete school uniform set that can transform into muggle-friendly magical power armor.
