No, it's like someone calling you Timothy.
But I want people to call me Tim. That's who I present myself as to other people, so why be rude and insist on calling me something else?

It's a very small thing for someone to do, and the fact that they aren't doing so when we aren't even close says a lot about how they regard me.

Does it know that we know that it's real title is Incubator? We don't want to give away how much we know to it.
I'm nearly positive that we have called it Incubator in the past, either in conversation or over telepathy. I don't have time right now to go digging through canon, so that's where I'll leave it.

And even if we haven't, I'm not sure how much that could reveal. We don't even have to make up a lie, we could just say that we put it together from context clues: the soul gem looks like an egg, "Kyubey" is some sort of corruption of another word even if it works as a pun in Japanese, etc.

Or...

Why did you call me Incubator?

"I don't know, just came to me. Seemed appropriate."

We have retrograde amnesia and automatically knew what it was on sight. It's already suspicious as fuck.

Alternatively, we could call it "Number Nine," which also works as an obvious social snub, which is the goal. It won't care, but Bennouna will notice that we are professionally courteous and distinctly nothing more to the thing.

Aren't Courtesy and Social Snub opposites of one another?

Giving people seemingly random nicknames isn't exactly courteous.

Huh, no need to specify that in the vote I guess.

Pretty sure that's an automatic action at this point.
Pretty much just implying that we should keep holding her hand in a comforting way. Maybe stroke soothingly it with our thumb. Don't wanna micromanage the affection.

Do hand holding, but with our feet instead of our hands. Our feet are out of sight, right? :p
I'm not sure that playing footsie is going to be very soothing.

I tried searching the story-only thread, but Firn uses "Incubator" in the narration a lot, so it was mostly false positives. Seems like the only times we said it out loud were in timestop or a privacy field.

Plus, everyone but Homura and Mami would be confused why we were calling it that, which would just derail the conversation even further.

Something to notice: Nadia's loaded with magic items and Mami doesn't seem to have really noticed.

That means we can do the same. :V Just maybe less magic items than Nadia since our would have a diminute amount of Grief, which might be noticed with enough magic items.

Hey @Muramasa? Can I prevail upon you for a full explanation of why you want to get rid of some of our grief? I'm pretty sure you've pointed to it being described very negatively by Firn's narration, but I'm not entirely certain I actually understand your case, and that can't be the full extent of it because of course it's going to be described negatively -- when has it not been?

I'm reluctant to offload all our Grief, since we're supposed to use that to make a vehicle to travel with today, but we're probably going to get more Grief off Nadia anyway.
It's been protocol that we don't offload all our free floating grief on QB, only enough that what we have is no longer unwieldy. And the votes so far doesn't say giving all the grief, only some of it.

Not Mura, but this is probably relevant to your question:
You spare her attention and a smile as Grief starts billowing forth in great, swirling clouds. You crush it down as fast as you can, sending Grief spheres soaring away to join your main mass - it's starting to become unwieldly now, more than enough to fill up one of those big shipping containers. Probably two.
This was last night, when we gave Homu a clear seed so she can sleep in timestop.

[x] Remain calm. Help Mami remain calm. Hold her hand if possible, but be professional about it.
[x] Tell Kyubey that we have some Grief to deliver to him. It's waiting up on the roof. He should head up there so we can give it to him. And after he does so, he should contact whatever his species considers an expert on the subject of grief and ask if there's a way to make our grief into a form that's more efficient for their conversion rates.
-[x] If he already knows one, then give the grief out in that form, unless it takes meditation, in which case we can feed him later.
-[x] While he goes up there, stay down here and remotely guide a couple seeds' worth of Grief into his back while we continue to talk to Nadia.
[x] If Nadia seems to realize that Kyubey makes Mami uncomfortable, let Mami decide how much she's willing to share about the reason why.
[x] Continue vote in abeyance.

Telling QB to go suck Grief should probably be reserved for whenever a sensitive topic is raised, since it'll probably come back afterwards.

We are the ones in control of how long it takes to feed him that two Seeds' worth of Grief. We can just make sure it takes the entire length of the conversation to finish.

We may only intend to let Kyuubey have some of our grief, but the way the vote informs Kyuubey of the grief he could legitimately assume we want him to vaccuum it all up.

It wouldn't even be a Kyuubeyism, it would be Sabrina's own fault this time!

Would offloading Grief on QB actually make him go away? I mean if the stuff is on the roof, won't he just send a duplicate body up there so he can still keep eavesdropping on us in the cafe?

We're the ones in control of the Grief. We can stop feeding him when we feel it's appropriate.

And if not... well, we can get more Grief. We need to make Mami a Clear Seed anyway.

Is now really the time to have this conversation? You're also giving away the fact that we know Kyubey is an alien and pretty much ensuring that we'll have to now explain that fact to everyone here except Homura. In a public place where we can't use the privacy field. In front of an MG we just met. This would be somewhat awkward.

He can almost certainly eavesdrop on us whether one of his bodies is visibly there or not. The point isn't to keep this conversation private, it's to get him to leave because his presence makes Mami uncomfortable.

Largely because the imagery of grief in the excess that we're carrying is becoming increasingly unsightly. Just because Firn has rarely touched upon the subject doesn't mean that it isn't becoming an issue.

Though I'm not necessarily for getting rid of it, if we can store it in a way that it isn't as much of an eye sore.
