Don't people's breath usually smell fresh and minty after brushing their teeth and/or using mouthwash? What else would it smell like?
Modern toothpaste can smell like all kinds of things. I believe bubblegum is a favorite. There's also varying levels of mint from "might have brushed yesterday" to "currently chewing mint leaves".

The question is whether or not we can tell if Mami used more or different oral hygiene products than usual. That's only a question at all because we're relying on the prose to tell us what Sabrina is experiencing. Asking Firn shouldn't be a big deal.

Anyone else notice this? This happens right after the most overtly romantic gesture yet was very enthusiastically received, and she immediately ran off to make sure that if we really kiss her then it will be nice.
Okay no, before I do anything else, I need to make a query to @Firnagzen -- er, well, to IC, that is.

@Firnagzen -- to be clear -- Mami doesn't normally do this as far as we can tell, right? We've been around her for a while now. Has she ever had, quote, "minty fresh breath" before.
Yes, she just brushed her teeth, and the toothpaste is minty.
1) Fuck 15-hour flights. Seriously.
Agreed.

The first half of this update, basically.

Also, is anyone gonna talk about how fixing Table-chan just proved that magic is conceptual?

Eh. Difference between organic and inorganic matter is overrated, and meguca bodies are literally soulless, so even 'it has a soul' distinction does not apply to 'life vs not life', so it is not that surprising.

Okay except there's no difference between healing a meguca and healing an ordinary human.

And even then I'm sure healing fractures in glass is different from not only repairing cells, but reactivating them and making sure there's no goddamn cancer or genetic errors.

Like what we just learned is that Sabrina or Mami could look at a complex computer system beyond their understanding and heal it with a single thought without needing to understand its inner workings or what it should look like. Which is pretty much conceptual by any useful definition.

In that case, perhaps "heal soul" is an important step in turning Clear Seeds into Soul Gems?

Which is exactly what I was talking about. Ability to heal both meguca and non-meguca means that there is no difference between having a soul and being a meatpuppet for healing. As life is just chemistry without souls, it makes sense that there is no difference between healing meatpuppet and 'healing' non-organic material.
Well, probably except for beliefs of the girl who does healing, maybe.

The interesting part of healing table-chan is that we get to define what "healed" means, it's the same for us and Mami, and it's not something we have to figure out ourselves. We say "table-chan should be like this" and the magic makes the result into a coherent whole. Even if it's mucking with cells and atoms and stuff at one level, at another level, there's clearly some platonic ideal of "healed" that this magic is invoking and we're just shifting our worldview around to change the targeting parameters. I like the thought that we might be able to heal a crashed computer, or a program with a bug in it, with the same magic, and I think that we should try that at some point.

Well, we can heal the person we've never seen, so it does not rely only on healer's worldview...then again, magic is by definition conceptual, so that is not surprising.
If magic can heal, say...uuuugh.
There is insensitive and somewhat unethical way of testing a role of healer's belief.

If one meguca considers something an illness and other one does not, will their healings have different results?

What a fantastic thing to wake up to!

[X] Continue to be very affectionate toward Mami, because you'll need to be more professional when dealing with Bennouna, so you want to get in enough Mami-snuggles to tide you over through the meeting. Tell Mami as much.
-[X] If it looks like Mami is wanting to kiss you, but is having trouble psyching herself up to do it, kiss her.
[X] When meeting Bennouna, present yourself as someone who wants to help others. Sure, you're a bit of a dork and a ditz at times, but your drive to help people is who you are.
-[X] Be polite, be efficient, have a plan to befriend every magical girl you meet: At some point, offer to refresh any grief seeds Bennouna might be carrying, with a standing offer to do so whenever she comes through. Also offer to empty out a grief seed for her, and tell her about how long you think a single clear seed ought to last, if she accepts the offer.
[X] Ask Bennouna about any magical girls who could do similar things to what we can do, such as girls who can manipulate soul gems. Also ask about the largest magical girl group she's met in her travels -- we want to get an idea for just how organized people are so far.
[X] If/when the subject of Bennouna telling other magical girls about our ability comes up, ask her to make it clear to anyone who asks her about us, or anyone she tells about us, that we're more than willing to clean soul gems and grief seeds for free, and that the only string attached is that violence or coercion in Mitakihara will not be tolerated.
-[X] Ask Bennouna to only tell people about us who she thinks would be reasonable, but that if even unreasonable people ask about us, to make that clear. We know word is going to get out, but we really don't want there to be fights and conflict due to it.
-[X] Explain your reasoning to Bennouna. That you want to help people, but you know it's not that easy.
--[X] You've foreseen lots of problems with infinite cleansing - abuse, people rejecting it because it's "too good to be true", upsetting power structures, general making-things-worse - and you're necessarily leaving it up to her how best to proceed in any given situation.

Mrfffff... Hm.

Mrph. We can say something more here. Comment on table-chan. Make more actual progress with Mami.

[] Look at table-chan. Cuddle Mami. Tell her that this is what you want: the two of you, together, finding new things to do, new ways to be happy -- and retreading old ones, too. You'll need to be more professional when dealing with Bennouna, but that just means you need to get in enough Mami-snuggles to tide you over through the meeting. Tell Mami as much.

Now watch, it turns out that Akihabara is chock full of magical girls. Very few of the people there turn out to be cosplayers, they're all magical girls. :V
