That update was awesome. The fight scene was quite fantastically written.

Since my teenage years, I've been quite fond of the X-Wing novels by Aaron Allston. There's a move often used in the books where two X-Wings, each of which has a TIE Fighter on their tail, will fly at each other and fire on each other's pursuers. The move that Sabrina and Sayaka pulled at the end reminded me of that.

While I included the idea in my vote, I wasn't expecting Sayaka to actually be able to summon a shield. That's an awesome little bonus right there. Having that should help Sayaka a lot with her defense. I was also impressed by her lack of Leeroy Jenkins rushing. Seems like she might actually have learned something about caution after all.

Still, we didn't get much chance to see what Sayaka was doing during the fight, so we don't know if she's gotten better and watching her flanks or not. Guess we'll have to see what gets said about it in the feedback portion.

Vote suggestions:
--[] Ask Mami about magic weapons and outfits. Is it just a matter of willpower, or...? How customizable are they for combat? You noticed I can reshape my outfit with a bit of concentration - are weapons the same way?
Switched between first and second person there. Makes it sounds like Mami noticed we could reshape our outfit, when she's never seen us do that.

[x] Hmm. Another round later, I think?
-[x] Hug Mami more. "Dibs on you!"
[ ] Do you guys think we have time for another round or two?
-[ ] Hug Mami more. I call dibs on Mami this time!

-[] How did we do? Homura, Mami, your thoughts?
-[ ] How did we do? Homura, Mami, your thoughts?
--[ ] During the feedback process, probe for info on how Sayaka did regarding situational awareness, avoiding target fixation and checking for dangers in her blind spots before rushing ahead.

[x] So, is there anything we should practice first, or are we going straight into another round?
[ ] Is there anything we should work on before we start the next round?
-[ ] If the feedback indicated that Sayaka still needs more work on the above topics, then making working on that a priority. Use the practice session to teach her how to clear corners safely. During the match, dedicate yourself to ambushing Sayaka from the sides or behind every time she goes past a corner or other potential hiding place without checking, until she learns better habits. Don't worry so much about actually scoring on her, just catching her off guard a few times should make the lesson sink in.

I actually support calling dibs on Mami. It's the same language that Homura used, and it makes Mami feeled valued. People are competing over being her teammate, that makes anyone feel good. As for it having romantic overtones...well, it's not that flirtatious, but we have romantic overtones with Mami. Sabrina, at the very least, is quite infatuated with Mami. She looks up to Mami, wants to support Mami, and genuinely likes spending time with her. There is a serious subfaction that doesn't want to take the name Vee because we really want the last name Tomoe.

Sabrina is that girl in middleschool who is playing with writing her first name with the last name of her crush in her notebook. Literally. We're totally justified in calling dibs on Mami. I'm still somewhat miffed that Homura beat us to the punch the first time.
It's more that Homura knows that we know that her relationship with Sayaka is, at best, "I tolerate your presence because Madoka likes having you around".

-[x] Hug Mami more. "Dibs on Mami!"
--[x] And if we still have time after that, one more with you and Sayaka against me and Homura? That way we'll go through every possible combination.

[x] But first... unlatch from Mami to give Sayaka a handshake and thank her for being such a good teammate. Excellent teamwork and communication, and she set up a couple of neat combination attacks.
-[x] How did we do? Homura, Mami, your thoughts?
-[x] That shield is going to be pretty useful in the future, I can tell.
--[x] Ask Mami about magic weapons and outfits. Is it just a matter of willpower, or...? How customizable are they for combat? I noticed I can reshape my outfit with a bit of concentration - are weapons the same way?
--[x] Actually, Homura, you have a shield. Any advice to Sayaka about using hers?
---[x] If Sayaka asks about the outfit reshaping thing, show her some cosplay.

[x] Is there anything we should work on before we start the next round?
-[x] If Mami or Homura have suggestions, work on them. If they don't, go right into it.
--[x] Try and ambush Sayaka a couple of times, to get her to improve her situational awareness.

Sabrina can decide what to cosplay herself.

Dibs doesn't sound all that romantic to me, besides a slight boost in self esteem for being valued enough to be fought over
Source: average butt with terrible social and low self esteem.

Didn't actually expect to land decisive hits on either of them, holding back or no.

Have you guys considered slightly experimenting here with minor magic. Stuff like Sayaka's shield or extending the length/reach of the hammer? Not like there's a better chance of doing that sort of stuff than a friendly spar.

I insist: boomerang hammers. They bank on our capacity to focus on several things at once, and among the grief stuff they can strike by surprise.

Sabrina can decide what to cosplay herself.
That's exactly what happens when we vote. :p

Sparring against Sayaka is the best opportunity to try making a poleaxe out of our hammer. Maybe thin the hammer head if that affects the balance.

We can make a Lucerne hammer! (Thank you, D&D rule book, for your absurdly comprehensive list of nearly-identical polearms.)

I proposed trying this in the last vote, but we don't yet know if it works or not.

Actually, an idea: With a more dynamic team composition (melee+ranged), we should take this as an opportunity for Sayaka to experience being closer to a 'leading' and to a 'following' position.

How about:

[ ] Before next round, propose something:
-[ ] If possible, you want that when Sayaka teams up with Mami, for Mami to try and guid/follow Sayaka, like when we went on the Witch hunt. And when Sayaka teams up with Homura, that Homura set the pace instead, so Sayaka can learn what's to be on both sides of that.

Well, right now's the time to try.

And on yet another completely different note, are we going to do an early potentialbomb on Madoka and Homura? We already know the pros: should completely dissuade Madoka from making a Wish ever, and defuses a possible Incubator manipulation point. We also know the possible con that Homura might take it bad, though I judge this to be very low if she's given a few minutes/hours to absorb and come to terms with it. Given those, shouldn't we get it out of the way sooner rather than later?

I believe I'm on record as supporting doing this as soon as possible after Asurano.

He outright stated the the character is not from Pmmm and has no history what-so-ever, in this setting.

That...doesn't mean anything given that this still describes "Wish-construct baby conjured out of nowhere" and "Moe Anthropomorphism of what is basically a natural disaster."

I actually support calling dibs on Mami. It's the same language that Homura used, and it makes Mami feeled valued. People are competing over being her teammate, that makes anyone feel good. Adding that I am 100% in favor of "Sabrina Tomoe" if we don't go with a V-name, and that imo Sabrina canonically is head-over-heels legitimately in love with Mami...but is holding off out of consideration for Mami's emotional health.

Ah, so it was

Wait, really? That felt much more like under five minutes. Was there more stuff going on "offscreen"?
Fiction always has some serious duration variation going on and everything takes exactly as long asthe author wishes it to take. There have to be thousands of hour long meetings that consist of about five sentences.

That said I have to agree that the fight didn't feel like it took fifteen minutes, especially compared to the Sendai ambush where a lot of things have happened in the span of a few seconds. Was there a lot of hiding and searching that has been glossed over? Maybe if all the talk beforehand is taken into account.

I'm removing the bit about asking Homura about shield advice, because any techniques she has beyond the basic 'a shield can block attacks' probably won't help Sayaka, because their shields different in almost every way they can be.

Wonder what expert level powers Sayaka can develop, like can she save copied powers forever, or steal powers, power amplify, copy weapons like Scarlett in RWBY, etc.

Hey, since her wish is to help people, does that mean she is a great maid now? Or tutor?

"Sayaka, help me with my math homework. "
"....oh this is easy. Just apply this Quantum equation and apply these proofs... Wait what. "
