I put it in partly for use now, partly as something really cool Sayaka could think about doing in the future. Goal building is gud and whatnot.

That should be okay, so long as it doesn't give her the impression we expect her to be able to do it now. I don't think Sayaka will argue with the notion that deflecting bullets with swords is hella sweet. :V

And hey, you never know - with the slower projectile velocities of airsoft...?

Mami probably will be using her normal ribbon shots.

[Q] No Sayaka, there's no plan. Just give it your all. :)
-[Q] Take cover and don't move in straight lines and shit, I guess.

[X] Honestly? We're... probably not going to win, but there's some really cool shit that we could try, which is actually the purpose. (louder) Besides, they'll be using nonlethal projectiles, so we're not going to be terribly hurt anyways. Probably gonna sting, though...
-[X] I've seen Mami fight, she can tell when attacks are coming without even looking. It's really cool, and I have no idea if I can emulate it or not, but I want to see if I can. So, I'm volunteering as bait.
--[X] On your side, Sayaka, there should be some sort of instinct for ranged defense that came with the magical girl contract. You might not get it immediately, or I might be completely wrong, but... magic. And whatever you can think of, even if it's something like cutting bullets with your sword, feel free to try -- you won't get hurt for it here. That said, see if you can get the drop on them while they're after me -- not getting seen until you're in close quarters is the best way to deal with guns or really any ranged weapon.
[X] If Sayaka notes that we'll make crappy bait, smile and tell her that it'll be pretty hard for them to pass us up if they'll know where we are the whole time.
[X] Make a grief warhammer, same as your normal one, but out of solid grief. Keep the density at the same level as your normal warhammers apparent weight, so the change in mass doesn't throw you off. Added benefit that it broadcasts our position.
[X] During the spar, focus on trying to sense incoming attacks. Secondary focus on trying to dodge make yourself a harder target, use your wings to throw your momentum around with the same technique you use to hang in the air without flapping them, e.g.. Tertiary focus on closing with your opponent while doing those things.
-[X] Stay in periodic contact with Sayaka. Check everyones' positions with grief sense every so often and if someone is trying to sneak up on her, tell her that you think they're trying to sneak up on her. This will encourage her to hone her own awareness.
[X] If/when the teams change up, try to avoid engaging Sayaka -- this is about dealing with ranged opponents. In actual combat situations it's unlikely that any melee-based meguca besides Kirika is going to pose a threat to you.
[X] After the spar, while everyone is cooling down, dissolve the chibi -- it's really not accomplishing anything except to make people feel witchy noises at this point, and you certainly won't be taking something like that to the picnic where Nagisa would see it -- and hug Mami. Thank her for helping you practice. Thank Homura too, and Sayaka. Ask how Sayaka feels/felt about what she accomplished/did in the spar, try to give feedback (especially praise wherever possible).
-[X] If Mami asks if she should dissolve her chibi too, tell her it's up to her. Hers is the superior version, after all. It would be good if it wasn't at the picnic, though -- Nagisa would find it mighty strange.
I'll be keeping an eye on everyone's position with my grief sense, too, so they can't divide and conquer us.

The only problem with this is that it prevents us from really training our ability to detect incoming attacks.

That should be okay, so long as it doesn't give her the impression we expect her to be able to do it now.

I put it in as a "give it a shot" suggestion instead of a "I think this is probably what it is."

[Q] Here's the plan. We concede, and they might let let us live. :V

The only problem with this is that it prevents us from really training our ability to detect incoming attacks.

Disagree. In an actual fight, we will be keeping tabs on locations and using that to inform our dodging. Not practicing that just reduces our efficacy for no gain.

And whatever you can think of, even if it's something like cutting bullets with your sword, feel free to try -- you won't get hurt for it here.

Don't like that phrasing.

Added benefit that it broadcasts our position.

It's been pointed out that solid grief doesn't trigger the Witch signal.

It's hella sweet, and thus, Sayaka's gonna look for a chance and a excuse to try anyway.

I mean, if your friend told you that your super powers might let you deflect bullets in a non-lethal spar, wouldn't you want to try and see if you actually can?

It's too bad this takes place in 2011.

Sayaka: "The dragon becomes me!"

Homura: "Clearing the area."

Sabrina: "Hammer down!"

Mami: "No one can hide from my sight."

Ramiel.

I'm not concerned about enemies inside 100 meters. At 100m, we win. Just like that. If we lose it's because we allow it. Even Homura probably can't do better than a draw starting from inside 100m, although that's certainly a fight worthy of debate.

But the same instincts Mami uses to dodge attacks without seeing them...

Whatever that is, it's not grief-limited. It may well work with attacks from past 100m. Outside our grief sense.

I'm not sure what to do about how2beBait. Will think more in morning ig.

Re: solid grief: I thought property-adjusted grief was witchy? Wouldn't density change be property-adjust? Perhaps not... I did originally say "use grief to make foam hammer," that would be a witchy grief application, right? Transmutation?

Kaizuki is thus best catgirl.

Pet me, nya.

@Kaizuki

Point defences would be pretty neat, I suppose, but I don't want to train a habit of ignoring our grief sense either.

A lot of projectile attacks would have a magic trace that we can sense, too - remember that Sabrina's ESP includes thaumoperception within her range as well as a grief sense. It won't do jack against Homura's airsoft rounds, but I wouldn't be surprised if we could use that extra warning to help against Mami's shots.

I'd also like to encourage the divide and conquer thing. Kinda what teamwork is about.

I like the divide and conquer bit, I dunno how rushed we are between now and the spar starting. Whenevr the fuck that happens. I wil try to add it in morning because you're right its good teamwork business. But for now *dives back into fluffybed*

If Sayaka is using her weapon we should be using ours, not only to actually use it for once(practice) but for solidarity.
Also because people seem to have an aversion to the hammer for a fair amount of time.

Why not make it clear what this is supposed to do, so Firn may not misinterpret it while writing?

[Q] Make a prop warhammer that wields as well the normal one.

(I feel some deja vu)

Also ghghghghghghg long votes.

[] Remind Homu about airsoft.
[] Mami can totally battle-precog. I wanna try it, so I'mma bait.
[] Keep under cover as Mumi said and don't run in straight lines. Listen to instincts even if they tell you to cut bullets in half. It won't hurt when you fail because airsoft.

[] You sneak close while I bait.
-[] Tell if need distraction.
-[] Divide and Conquer. Tell if opening found. Attack Homu first.

[] Warhammer prop so no accidentally hurt teh mumi. Nor teh homu.

[] Focus:
-[] SENSE
-[] DODGE
-[] WING MOVE
-[] CLOSE IN
[] Warn Seyiku if flanked.

[] Next round, don't hit on Seyiku.
[] Dissolve Chibi. In water. Drink Chibi.

Valid point. Since the griefhammer isn't useful for bait anyway, we should use our actual weapon. Practice as you mean to do in reality and all that. Doing as we tell Sayaka to do matters too.

Sayaka: "The dragon becomes me!"

Homura: "Clearing the area."

Sabrina: "Hammer down!"

Mami: "No one can hide from my sight."
Wellll, everything seems to tech up a little bit faster due to the whole wishes thing all over the place. Someone accelerates Blizzard working speeds? And, who knows Half Life 3.
If Sayaka is using her weapon we should be using ours, not only to actually use it for once(practice) but for solidarity.
Also because people seem to have an aversion to the hammer for a fair amount of time.
I agree. Sayaka is using swords, We used a hammer in our spar with Kyoko (who used her weapon), Mami is still using rifles (though probably with squishier ammunition). Why do we need to use a grief hammer? And we should have enough control over it to vary our striking power. Though, on that note, can we modify our hammer traits? That might be useful to know, and compare it to our speed in grief bending. Might be interesting if somehow we can cause even more carnage with Unlimited HammerTime

If we end up facing Mami, we should totally go:

"STOP!"

"..."

"... Hammer Time."

And resume as if nothing happened. Points if Mami laughs but we don't.

This whole hammer prop thing is catgirl being worrywart and some people following catgirl because catgirl.

We're freaking magical girls, we can pull our blows.

*Blindsides Sabrina*

*Points gun at Sabrina's head*

"Dodge this."

*Mimes shooting*

"Bang!"

*Highfives Mami*

*Sabrina presses on the attack*

*Easily dodges around Sabrina's strikes and aims-*

*Tackle hugs Mami into the ground*

"You've been hit by..."

"..."

"You've been struck by, a smooth criminal."

*Hugs Sabrina*

"He he, hahaha! I'm winning this duel, Mami!"

*Starts twirling hammer around menacingly*

*Shoots Sabrina*

*Is ribboned*

"... Beautiful."

*Blushes*

"..." *Blushes* "I meant that was beautifully done!"

"Oh..."

"You know what, I'm leaving."

"Wait for me."

A pity we're not getting rid of the Chibi now that Sayaka's shown herself to not be comfortable with it.
Sayaka's reactions struck me as more like, "Sabrina's being silly again," than as, "This abomination of nature disturbs and horrifies me!"

I'm ambivalent about the chibis myself, but given that we already asked for and received permission to keep them, it would be weird to immediately go, "Never mind!" and remove them. Maybe after the first match we can address the question again, but that's probably at least another vote in the future.

... What is the goal of all of this? What are we trying to train here? What the hell are we doing? What did we suggest this spar for...?
We're trying to teach Sayaka better strategies than recklessly rushing straight in. Teamwork, cover, distractions, evasion, all that stuff. We're not expecting to win, but we're going to give it our honest best effort and hopefully teach Sayaka something and learn something ourselves as a result. We're not just teaching Sayaka how to dodge, we're teaching her how to stop making herself such an easy target in the first place and how to pay attention to everything around her and not just what's right in front of her.

Just get rid of the warharmmer's head and try to poke Homu/Mami with the stick we'll have left.
Trying to do that was already part of my vote.

[x] "So, what counts as an 'out' for this match? Or are we going to count how many hits we take and total the score at the end?"
-[x] "...you guys are going to just be using airsoft, right? *gulp*"
[x] Get Sayaka behind cover. Use telepathy to lay out the plan. "Bet you wish you had a shield to go with that sword right now."
[x] "Okay, Sayaka, our only real advantages here are flight and speed. We're going to break in opposite directions to divide their attention."
-[x] "Fly low, move fast, keep cover between you and them as much as possible. We'll swing wide and try to hit Homura from both sides at once."
--[x] "They'll be trying to do the same thing to us, so don't get so focused on one that you lose track of the other. If they start to pen you in, use your speed and flight to escape. And don't just rush straight in, it gives them a clear shot at you."
---[x] "Fire near them to keep them off-balance. If you can block their visibility or throw out a decoy, do that too. If not, it's fine, just use speed, cover and suppressing fire."
[x] Do just that. As we run, try to throw warhammers at the ground with enough force to crater it and/or use our wings to blow air across the ground to produce dust clouds to reduce their visibility. If there's a stretch with no cover, use our warhammer to punt something out there to make cover.
[x] Use our senses to track the locations of all combatants. Use telepathy to keep Sayaka informed of where the other team is and warn her of potential ambushes.
[x] Find an opportune moment to come at Homura from both sides, preferably with a close range ambush from behind cover. If we can summon a hammer with no head or an extended handle, do that: we need speed and reach rather than smashing power. If we need to cover open ground to get to her, grab something big and solid to use as a shield, then throw it at her feet as a distraction, and try to get close enough to engage her without getting in Sayaka's way.
-[x] If Sayaka is doing just fine against Homura on her own, focus on keeping Mami from sniping her as they fight.
[x] If we can take Homura out, try the same pincer maneuver on Mami. If Sayaka is also taken out and it's just us vs. Mami, try to have a good, fun spar; we could use the practice. If Mami seems to be having a bad emotional response to practice-fighting us, stop and lighten the mood by offering to finish things with a tickle-fight instead.
[x] In the highly probable event that we lose despite our best efforts, accept it with good cheer, tell Sayaka she did well, and give mad props to whoever took us out.
[x] Whoever wins, congratulate everyone on a good match, high five Sayaka, hug Mami and tell her how awesome she was, and ask for feedback on our tactics and performance.
-[X] During the feedback portion, warn Sayaka of any risky habits that we noticed her displaying, with suggestions for how to fix them.

It's mostly just to see if we can do something creative with it like Kyouko does, maybe get a slight edge and learn if it's an option for the future. As weird as it might seem to do practice spars with live weapons (an as much as it violates every safety procedure imaginable), that seems to be the norm for meguca. Sabrina vs. Kyouko, Sabrina vs. Sayaka and Sayaka vs. Mami were all done with their normal summoned weapons, and no injuries resulted. It seems to be taken as a given that we can hold back and just "count coup" on our opponent.

EDIT:
[X] If/when the teams change up, try to avoid engaging Sayaka -- this is about dealing with ranged opponents.
I thought we were going to teach her how to properly clear corners? When we're on the opposing team from Sayaka, we should make a habit of hiding behind things in her path and anytime she just blindly sprints past without checking, jump out and surprise her. She'll learn to look around her real quick.
