I found most of the fun in that quest came from players attempting zany silly stuff for fun, screwing up and paying for it, and still going forward and trying again.

But then it all started going 'NEVER DO ANYTHING DANGEROUS EVER AT ANY COST', and 'fun' was part of the cost to pay for it... votes were basically to avoid anything and everything dangerous, so it was booring.
Main problem was everytime people voted for something silly, they continued to pay for it fifty+ updates later. Chibi was so harsh that he would rewrite the story to have bad things happen for next to no reason (eg that time people decided to stop being stupid and do things correctly, Homura went crazy, kidnapped Madoka and when they tried stopping her peacefully, Kyouko or someone stabbed her through the head through GM fiat, necessitating travelling halfway around the world to FrankFran. One time, even Chibi was sickened by what he had written and decided to rewrite it to something less extreme. Another point was, anytime anything happened, Damn Clown came up(Stupid idea to give your powers to a witch you killed to make a minion, but not a reason to destroy what the players do with the result))

There were problems, but the 'avoid all plothooks/never do anything' attitude basically kills any attempt at making a quest work.

Never read it, but these accounts I'm hearing make me think that the QM burned his playerbase too often for them to feel comfortable making progress. Natural consequences is one thing, but punishing every mistake is a bit much.

Y' know, I can totally imagine Mami suffeering a long, traumatic internal debate about the witchiness of Sabrina, and after one misadventure or another, she finally decides that she's OK with it as long as Sabrina remains Sabrina as she knows her, and confidently and reassuringly confides her resolution to Sabs...

Player Sabrina:

A) Uh... I'm not actually a Witch... Thanks, though! That means a lot to me.
B) But I'm not... I mean I think... maybe, uh... [EXISTENTIAL CRISIS]
C) ... Admit it. You're totally a Witch, and you're glad Mami accepts you as such (totally not accepting just to avoid complicating things further now that an (in)correct resolution was found, what are you talking about).
D) "Oh, Mami."

But an omake for what happens if "B" was chosen might be interesting...

Actually, we'd at least have a day to think of our answer, so... well, at least we wouldn't panic. If indecisive, we could simply say we're not sure about our origins, but thank her for being so understandnig anyway.
