[X] Sendai was a mess, I'm not going to pretend otherwise, but what do you think would have happened if I had just left it? The University Girls had already lost a friend and had their lives ruined by Akiko's extortions, and Akiko has some sort of complex over grief seeds that kept her obsessing over them and a huge grudge against Ishinomaki. Neither side would have given up, and both were already calling in allies when I intervened. How many Magical Girls do you think would have died if I hadn't gotten involved? How many civilians would have been caught in the crossfire before it ended?
-[X] So I'm curious- what is it about me refusing to leave until both sides stopped trying to kill each other, convincing them to sit down and negotiate to try and find a peaceful solution, and stopping Akiko from continuing her grief seed racket that you dislike enough to decry it as me making people 'toe the line'?
-[X] If she expresses confusion over what we're talking about, ask her about what she's heard about Sendai and offer to explain the situation in more detail. If she refuses to believe us, offer to put her in contact with the other girls who were involved.
-[X] If she seems ambivalent, ordemands to be released at this point, offer to go for a walk while we talk, so long as we just talk. If she doesn't demand it, offer to let her down anyway so long as she doesn't try attacking us again.

Please anybody tell me they ever answered an out of place comment by vomiting a lot of facts, and that didn't just piss off the other person.

Somehow, I really doubt Ono is gonna think: "Oh hey, I really don't know what I'm talking about!"

More like: "How dare she explode in my face like this! What the hell is she blabbering about!"

And then, supposing she tries to follow our tirade instead of walling us off, and we confuse her alright, what? What's the expected answer, other than anger?

And by doing this? We're validating Ono's opinion. We're answering as if we accepted that Ono knows what she's talking about, instead of her being ignorant and trying to make us feel bad.

Ono doesn't know what she's talking about. We shouldn't act as if she did.

Screw it, I'm going to absolute basics:

[X]What exactly did you hear about Sendai?

I like NSMS's vote. Although I have an indescribable urge to describe the incident as 'they threw highways at each other, so three people died'.

Provisionally using this as my new vote, until somebody finds problems with it.

-[X] You must've heard the news; three people died there, and that was one fight, one where we stopped both sides from calling in their full stable of favors and reinforcements. If we had stood aside and let them fight, let them escalate, let more battles happen... why is stopping that such a terrible thing that you decry it as making them 'toe the line'? Why is that more important that the lives of innocent people?

[x] Sendai? So you heard about that mess. Or a version of it. I certainly did make mistakes down there but overall I'd like to think I helped change things for the better.
[x] Can you tell me what exactly you heard about the Sendai and Ishinomaki conflict? I don't mind talking about it. In detail. I can even introduce you to other girls directly involved.

[X] You hadn't wanted or intended for things to go that way over there at all. But considering the alternative was allowing a war to escalate that would have killed at least a dozen magical girls and who knows how many more civilians...
[X] How did you find out about that? Can you tell me what exactly you heard about the Sendai and Ishinomaki conflict?
[X] Listen to what Megane has to say. Don't interupt.
[X] Ask her if she will listen and not attack again if let down. Leave it to Mami.
-[X] If she does get let down, prepare to grief bind if she attacks again.
[X] Talk about the Sendai and Ishinomaki conflict.
-[X] You had heard about a conflict in Sendai. At first, it has seemed like a battle over territory. Tell her about the scale of the conflict and how other cities and groups were getting dragged into it. The sheer numbers of magical girls would have resulted in many of their deaths and who knew how many innocent people.
-[X] Several girls you knew were already getting attacked, so you decided to over there and try and end the conflict peacefully before it escalated further, perhaps by offering free grief cleansing services. Mitakihara also would have gotten dragged in regardless, since some girls from there knew of you.
[X] Except it turned out that the Sendai group had been extorting the University group of their grief seeds. Tell Megane about the effect it had on the UG including about how one of their members had already died and another left because of it.
-[X] Not to mention that Sendai's leader, Akiko, wanted the entire Ishinomaki group dead.

-[X]Remember the earthquakes in Ishinomaki? Those were caused by magical girls. At first, it seemed like a battle over territory. Tell her about the scale of the conflict and how other cities and groups were getting dragged into it. The sheer numbers of magical girls would have resulted in many of their deaths, and collateral.
-[X] The Sendai girls were already there and asked you for help, so you decided to over there and try and end the conflict peacefully before it escalated further. Mitakihara also would have gotten dragged in regardless since the Sendai girls already knew about you.
[X] Except it turned out that the Sendai group had been extorting the University group of their grief seeds. Starving them to death. Tell Megane about the effect it had on the UG including about how one of their members had already been killed and another'd been forced to leave the city. They'd already been forced out of their homes and families.
-[X]When I asked the Sendai group's leader, Akiko, about it, she said that 'they would have died anyway. If they died, it's because they weren't good enough.' She just didn't care at all- she was obsessed with grief seeds. She wanted the entire Ishinomaki group dead as well, because she blamed them for her friend disappearing.
[x]In the end...we won. They...did a lot of damage first. We cleaned it up, helped the people that got caught in the middle, and I cleansed everyone on both sides. The ones from out of town that didn't want to hear about cleansing, we let go. The other girls came to an agreement, more or less on their own.
[x]Akiko...Something happened to her. She went catatonic when she lost. I still don't know exactly why, or how I can help get her out of it. I...didn't want that to happen. I didn't like her after I found out what she did, but...
[x]So, yeah, that was Sendai. I'm not proud of what I did there, but I had to do something. People were going to die and it would have been worse if I hadn't done anything.
[x]But to answer your question, no. Not like Sendai. As long as you don't hurt anyone, I don't care what you want to do. But right now, if I leave you alone, I think you're going to die. And I don't want that to happen. Please hear me out.

[x] What? 'I made sure people toed the line?' Is that what you've heard? You really think I could police twenty-odd girls in two different cities?
[x] And how do you even know I was there - it was barely a couple of days ago, no-one there mentioned you, and now someone's dragging my name through the mud in the next city over?
[x] There's no fighting there right now because no-one really wanted to fight - the entire conflict was one girl stirring up trouble and everyone else getting ready to defend themselves.
[x] And it was Chouko and Yumi that agreed to stop the fighting - I didn't make anyone do squat.
[x] My contribution to the whole thing was stopping Little Miss Psycho's sudden-but-inevitable betrayal and then helping paramedics save innocent people that she put in danger.
[x] That's it - that's why I was there: I didn't want people to die. Same reason I'm hear with you right now.

Social fu is so hard, but very rewarding when we actually manage to do it right.
Doesn't that just make it sad?

Should we derive feelings of accomplishment from managing to not piss off somebody?

I mean, it is our greatest enemy, but still...

Mmm... If we wanted to list our enemies/potential enemies, starting from the worst ones and descending in threat level, how would that list look like?

Feathers
Social
Kyubey
Walpurgisnacht
Sabrina?
Soujous
Akiko
Oriko?

It's not quite as bad as all that. We don't feel proud of getting through a simple conversation with someone, we feel proud of getting through a simple conversation with someone suspicious and/or unstable. The occasional person like Nagisa or Bestbuddy who isn't an emotional minefield doesn't require a social vote and thus doesn't give us a feeling of accomplishment when we don't piss them off. And frankly, I don't think it's so bad to feel accomplished when we have a successful conversation with a child soldier who was probably more emotionally unstable than normal before she got drafted.

I note that by inference Kirika, a total fucking loon, is one of the more stable meguca we've dealt with. Madokami wept.

Oh boy... *Lets the Grief/Despair allllll out*

HI EVERYBODY! I just read thru this whole quest (and a tiny fraction of the discussion). I'm hoping to join in. I seem to tend to being very wall of texty (long posts ahoy!), I care about this a lot!

Wow, this has been a ride. So much grimderp, and tears. And yet so much happiness/success(for said given definition). Much Mami Love. Much Mami crumbling of psyche. I don't think I... I mean we (we right?) could've done much better though. It's freaking PMMM!

:(:(:(:(

When reading these latest chapter/arc, I was really hoping to get to discus this Ono thing before we did this to her. In her house. With her alcoholic mother outside. The Shame. The emotional abuse I'm sure that's happened. Sigh. I don't think we could've done anything better then leaving. A stealth gem cleanse under timestop might of worked if not for the short untimestop effect of doing so... but she might of thought she imagined it ya know? Or even stealth grief seed gifting. Maybe a brainfart/kyubey present would've been her thoughts? It's all turtles all the way down either way I think.

I'm going to ponder my voting option. I'm leaning toward NSMS's votewagon for the moment but we'll see.
[X] - NSMS

Now something that I find terrifying in the last chapter/arc. Sabrina slightly witching out and not being noticed by us. This is involved with the barrier thing of course. And the whole reading of witch runes thing. And the apparent loss of memory as well of Sabrina informing Mami/Homura of her barrier creation at lunch time. I didn't dig that far into the discussion, I usually only go a 1 or 3 pages after a story post for the discussion, so I KNOW I've missed about 98% of this thread so please gently inform/correct me if I'm wrong!

Here's some quotes to ponder and be worried about.
Interestingly, you don't feel the same... nauseating sense of wrongness a normal Witch Barrier gives you. Probably because it's your Barrier. You somehow doubt that that'd be the case for your fellow puella magi, though.
Hmm, our barrier is so comfy and nice, not like those other witches barriers/worlds. If I'm remember correctly the issue with the other witch barrier areas she enters is all the Witch Witch Witch (Grief) sensation EVERYWHERE.
"By the way," you send out by telepathy to Mami and Homura as you say your goodbyes. "Um... remember when I asked for a closer look at a Witch barrier? I wanted to see how it worked, and well, I kiiiiinda made my own. No Witch, just a Barrier."

"What?"

"What?"

Mami's and Homura's reactions are identical, nearly in stereo as both snap around to stare at you, drawing concerned looks.

"Uh, yeah," you say sheepishly. "I... thought it might be useful? For storing Grief? I can show you later." Out loud, you say, "Um... just a bit of odd news I got earlier."

Madoka and Sayaka nod, while Hitomi just raises an eyebrow.

"I... see," Homura says.

"Umm... alright, Sabrina," Mami says. "Is it safe?"

"Yeah," you say. "As far as I can tell, anyway."

"Alright, then," Mami says, staying behind as the others turn to head down the staircase.
Yeah we come clean to our friends and inform them of our Barrier creating witchiness! <Hugz everyone>
Mami shakes her head again, but she reluctantly continues, hesitance in her words. "Have you... tried making an actual Barrier?" She abruptly waves her hands frantically in a pacifying gesture. "It's just an idea!"

"I did, actually," you say. "It... well, it worked. I managed to make a Barrier."

"Oh," Mami says. "Oh."
Umm... She forgot we told her we did already? We forgot we already told her?!

Did the first barrier also do some subtle mindfuckery or timeline shift that took a while to take a effect. We told them about the barrier we made, entered, and took down after we did so.
Your boots touch down on rug, and you can feel the soft fibers give way underfoot. Another presence at your side - Mami. Fingers vise tight on yours, arms wrapped around you, and noise in your ears. Noise that comes unbidden to your Barrier, something forei-

"-abrina! P-please. Talk to m-me. Sabrina?"

You blink, and refocus.

"Mami?" you ask faintly.
This... This isn't grief talking. This isn't despair. This is otherness. Not us. Not part of our world/barrier. It's FOREIGN! This is not a way of thinking that I think Sabrina would ever ever ever ever do. And probably explains the feather (FEATHER!) very well. There was some manifestation of at the very least.
"I'm fine, Mami," you say softly. Moving gently, you guide her over to the sofa and sit down. It's an exact replica of the one in Mami's apartment, right down to the little worn patch on the right side.

It also sings the constant song of Witch, Witch, Witch.
Hmm.. Either our own barrier (and area within) doesn't feel that safe and comfortable like it did the first time, or we just never worried/mentioned about the Witch Witch Witch sensation/song the first time (See my first quote and response). Either way.... or it means something!

So yeah. That's a few of my thoughts on that matter. It kept me up till 11am today before I sucumbued to slumber. I'm a little late to the party on those chapters I know.

The whole feather thing, and that involving her slight witchout/barrier probably breaking the timeline and splice/spliting/whatevering involving Sayaka... That's a whole other cauldron of witches that I don't think I want to get into.

*Deep calming breaths*

So yeah. Hi everyone. Glad to be here. Hi Sabrina! <Hugs> Poor Mami. We will fix you. And then we will tell you the witchbomb, and fix you again. And then you will last forever and be immortal and yay! Happy Ever Afters for us!

P.S. The QM ( @Firnagzen )is a troll. His little postscripts after chapters...... Wow I just grin and want to give him a little smack sometimes. Lovingly of course.

But one thing that totally redeems him. His total, and completely justified, hatred of Kyubey! I love all those vote options for all those times the Kyubey decides he should drop by and say "Hi!".

Edit: Umm... Just noticed I had the word Madoka instead of Sabrina when I said who I think was witching out a bit. DOH. I'm dumb

Thank you! Now I'm a bit new to all these questing threads, but I assume that if you do a new vote, your previous vote will not count automatically by the automatic vote counter thingies? Or so the questing newb guide seems to state>

And I've seen the QM usually goes with the consensus, but will occasionally draw other things/votes into it if it's not mutually exclusive?

And er. Our chatter influences Sabrina's mindstate etc and stuff? So PANIC PANIC PANIC FEATHER FEATHER is a bad thing usually to do, or at least in a great number of us, right? Since that her/us thinking it. Or something.

Uh...so you mean MAMI Witching Out?
Nope. I meant Sabrina. I can't type right! Ugh. I meant Sabrina not Madoka? She's the one that created the barrier. She's the one making everything inside it. It's her inner dialogue that we read. I highlighted the worrying internal dialogue as well. She's in the middle of creating her domain in the Barrier. She knows Mami is there still but she starts classifying the sound of Mami talking as noise. As Foreign. Not of Me.

Too be clear, Sabrina slightly witching out or... something weird.

I think it gives us more of a reason WHY there was a feather coming out of the portal the second time, and not the first time when everything else was almost exactly the same. Except for Mami and the slight "Noise that comes unbidden to your Barrier, something forei-" thing

I guess I just assume people will click the /\ arrow on the quote and find the snipped if they need more context. I thought people sorta disliked huge reply/quote box things.

Sorry for being unclear guys

Edit: To fix my colossal derpage of mixing up names.

DOH. I'm dumb
Welcome aboard!

Well, Mandabar, I don't think we need to worry about Sabrina. Word of the QM is that Sabrina won't witch out unless the thread collectively gives in to despair.

Or we do it on purpose for SCIENCE like idiots.

[x] Listen to what Megane has to say. Don't interupt.
[x] Talk about the Sendai and Ishinomaki conflict.

[X] Talk about the Sendai and Ishinomaki conflict.

[X] That was a mess. I didn't leave until everybody agreed to not kill each other, yes.
-[X] But, I'd like to hear what you know about it, if you would?
--[X] If she seems ambivalent, or demands to be release at this point, offer to go for a walk while we talk, so long as we just talk.
---[X] Don't interrupt her.
-[X] Offer to share your own version of events, or at least of that which you know.
--[X] If she doesn't trust us, we could take her to meet the people involved on both sides of the conflict, if she wants.
-[X] Offer Gem cleansing to Homura.

[X] I didn't leave until people stopped killing each other or starving other people to death and i'm proud of doing something instead of letting people die
-[X] Sorry, i truthfully thought you were simply ignorant of the situation, but seems that you know the danger of a being a magical girl, am i wrong?
-[X] if seems like she know what she we are talking about keep going, if not.
--[X] Because to me you seems pretty much calm considering that you're were going to die in...what? a day? two? Or maybe i should be counting in hours?
-[X] Still i...don't understand, in that case why you are so adverse against me? Why do you prefer practically kill yourself before even talk to me?
-[X] We both know i'm not going out of here until i know you are not dangerous, to yourself and to others, so now we can finally talk, i only ask this: if there is problem, if you have a problem with me, i want to talk, before people die for nothing.
-[X] You want to know the reason? Because i already saw too many people like you die because they were ignored, instead of being treated like they deserved.
-[X] let her talk, if don't seems to dangerous free Ono.

[X] Sendai was a mess, I'm not going to pretend otherwise, but what do you think would have happened if we had just left it? There was too much bad blood and too many grudges for either side to give up, and with both of them already starting to call in allies... how many Magical Girls do you think would have died if we hadn't gotten involved? How many civilians would have been caught in the crossfire before it ended?
-[X] You must've heard the news; three people died there, and that was one fight, one where we stopped both sides from calling in their full stable of favors and reinforcements. If we had stood aside and let them fight, let them escalate, let more battles happen... why is stopping that such a terrible thing that you decry it as making them 'toe the line'? Why is that more important that the lives of innocent people?
