Okay, one other thing we need to do is organize who's in what line once we're reduced to fighting in lines.

I'll assign the best melee people to the front line, and then ranged and support people, no trouble. The question, which I would like help with, is how many lines to have. Dow we want to be three lines deep in standard Norse style or what? What do people think?

We'll see. I think there are better suited people, but if they don't want one, you'll get it.
I'm fine with being ranged, Ivor has standard Norse melee skills but he's mostly a Kunna user.

Don't worry about after the battle, I'm asking specifically for the battle, since my damage output depends on me being able to wield lots of swords.

It's less "after the battle" and more "Bjarneson ended up being the YOLO Spearhead charging ahead of things aiming to at worst spike the wheels of the entire army and at best scatter them all to Hel."

So if he survives that and gets back before the battle, a spar sword should be fine!

Fair enough, I suppose. I hope the harrying action goes well.

"Moli's works must just be enough." Moli remarked.

So does that mean I can quickly go around the village (the centre area) and inscribe Smárgneisti's name into the kindling for each active fire and then call upon Smárgneisti and offer those fires up to Smárgneisti to watch, so that Smárgneisti is more powerful/has more fire I can draw from when we get around to battling? How does Major/Passives work in this? Is it like just the singular action, or are passives also available?
Yes
That was me...that warning came from me.
Someone write a tiny omake about this interaction!

Just woke up to this like an hour ago lemme make something real quick.

[X] Akali gathers the twins and brings them to the closest gathering spot of non-combatants in the village, then he'll grab a basic spear and meet with the defense planning before offering to act as mid range support until the skeletons were in melee range is someone provides him with disposable javelins.

Edit: Oops I also wanted to drop this.

I have a better imagination with example so here if anyone wants an idea of what I think the war suits sound like.

Yeaaaah, so, on Turn 1 the "East Scouting Party" as we were called (Bjarneson, Ivor, and Ragnarr) first stumbled into this random cave with an animated skeleton in it? Well, Ragnarr stumbled into it- fell really- and then he smote the skeleton in one hit? And we kinda exchanged glances and said "We'll deal with this later" and continued onto our objective of The Boat. But Bjarneson with his Bone Kunna is kinda obsessive about skeletal reconstructions and thought "This could be a neat archeological find!" or the equivalent, and so- well- brought it with him.

And then we arrived at the Boat and possibly accidentally antagonized the crabeople.

So technically speaking, both the Skele-Army and the Crab Guerillas might actually, ya know, be our fault, maybe :V
If it wasn't for the fact that most characters (including npcs) are glory-crazed madmen&women completely unfamiliar with the word "self-preservation" that could have earned you a few annoyed glances.
As is most will probably just go "thanks for the chance to earn more Ordstir".

Given our limited numbers, I think one wide line is our only real option. Otherwise, I'd suggest two lines as fighting tireless, fearless opponents is actually fairly difficult even if they're weak.

We also need people who can make sure the fallen are permanently dead, however that works. Maybe the Bone kunna users can yank the bones away and crush/otherwise disable them?

A Serious Matter

*During the preparations for the First Attack, the Skeletal Invasion*

In the Hall, a serious strategic realization occurs.

Valo speaks to Hersir Ragnar, called Fair-Spoken by many, discussing the very real possibility of a flanking maneuver.

"Hersir, I think there is a real likelihood of this Army being a diversion." says Valo.

For once, Amerion Wardson exhibits none of his social anxiousness and boldly proclaims, "That could very well be Halvarson. Hersir if I remember correctly, I heard a rumor of someone's blood or sixth-sense gave them a premonition of something coming from the Ocean. Not specifically from the East. However, considering who else is there and the strange sorcery they wield. We very well could be facing two simultaneous attacks!"

Ragnarr's face turns grim. His eyes scrunch up, his brow furrows in worry. He contemplates how to conduct a battle while keeping and eye out at sea.

Valo looks at Ragnarr Fair-Spoken, he looks at Amerion Wardson, he looks back at Ragnarr, he looks back at Amerion.

"That was me...that warning came from me."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N I would later learn that Deadman had not in fact known about it.
The OG version had both Valo and Ragnarr looking at Amerion.

You know, I said my action for this event was scouting… can I go out on a second scouting mission?

To check for that flanking attack I mean.

Okay, @I.F. Ister can we ask the seeress to do a quick divination if this is a diversion (intentional or unintentional) of some sort? If so, we fall back and do the same plan at the village itself and eat the infrastructure loss.

(For the record, legitimately missed the warning, a lot was going on).

Send scouts! Major actions have been refreshed for the length of this incursion.
Does that mean that I missed out on a major action by not logging in early enough today? I'd been intending to join my clan in clearing the two jungle territories we had claimed.

Well, regardless...

Torgarr is going to use Plant an Earth Kunna to construct fortifications, as suggested/directed by the leadership of the town.

If no direction is forthcoming, he'll fortify the farming plots of himself and his clan instead, doing what he can to leverage any existing jungle.

Torgarr is not jolly on the best of days, but today he looks particularly grim.

Warband Action List

Kare Sky-Dancer and Grid Frostdottir took the air to scout out the enemy, reporting on their movements and numbers. Amlooi Toothtaker aids them with their owl fylgja. Ivor Lindholm joins them on foot, but is a stealthy and cunning sort.

Alyssa and Oddr fletch extra arrows and spears.

Grid gave Agmundr Idskapadr swords of ice. Moli provides swords of glass. Erik provides him backup wooden swords.

Fernweh Enginweiss scattered flower seeds across the battlefield, to make use of with her Kunna.

BJORN BJARNESON mounts upon his noble steed and rushes headfirst into the horde, heedless of planning or self preservation. Alyssa confides that she doesn't expect him to come back.

Agnes, Agmundr, Erik Hardhead, Katla Hrafndottir and Njal Redaxe evacuate their loved ones and join the militia.

The scouts return. Now that we know where they will come from, Ragnarr deploys us to an appropriate spot, and commands we dig in and prepare.

Alyssa Worldwalker ranges ahead, setting up traps and keeping track of how close the horde is.

Ragnarr commands the militia bring forwards many spare logs, and Erik Hardhead begins carving runes into them to make them particularly dangerous when hurled.

The Shapecrafter breaks out three hauberks of dinosaur war suits (!?). To this the Seeress adds a 'magic water filtering mechanism that will refresh an aspect upon consumption', which can create one dose per hour.

[X] Valo Halvarson, Amlóði Tooth taker, Vatn Galtison will go commit to a skirmish/ambush/delaying action
See original post for their tactics.

Arnleif Whistler and his fylgja harasses the horde with distracting music, perhaps because he is bored.
General Tactical Plan For The Battle

Okay, so, once we get to a good site, we'll reinforce our defenses, trenches and walls and so on to the best of our earth-movers abilities (probably burning some aspects and recovering them with the Seeress's gift), and set up a killing field including any traps people want. Then we'll have people use any long-range or AoE abilities (Kunna, runed logs, etc.) that they can on the horde, once the numbers have been whittled down as much as we can, we'll engage them in melee last of all.

The Hersing details our battle plan.

Grid Frostdottir is granted a war suit.

Krakr and Moli scout the army using their Raven fylgja, with a focus on sorcery.

Akali Nightsinger evacuates his younger twins, then joins the militia with his javelins, spear and shield.

Torgarr Village Feeder and Steinrr Stonelicker contribute further to the fortifications.

Gunnar Toad Terror dived underwater to check for threats from beneath.

Hulfr climbs into the rooftops, to gain a good vantage point for his bow. While he waits, he also crafts high quality shields, for the upcoming battle.

(Alyssa notes that, given shields are wildly expendable anyways, this seems a questionable use of time.)

Brynjar Bonespear dons a fierce war suit.

Dyri Saeaborne joins Gunnar in scouting underwater.

Liv Sweetwater labours upon our fortifications, and prepares to give anti-fatigue drinks to the fighters.

Amerion Wardson swiftly patrols the village, inscribing a fire spirit's name into the kindling of each flame. Then, he attempts to inscribe runes into the stakes driven into the fortifications, and attempts to store instances of his fire Kunna into fasts.

Harald Logarson helps raise fortifications and elevated firing grounds.

Ragnarr, the Hersing, inscribes anti undead runes into our barricades.

Brynjar ponders the skeleton;s strategy.

Instead of fire traps, Ivor prepares extra ammunition for his Kunna, and an anti cavalry rope trap.

Skuli Draugrhater seeds the field with delayed fire blasts.
Bjorn splashes tar all across the prepared killing field.

Njal Ulfson helps prepare fortifications.

Bjorn Drakeslayer fletches extra arrows.

Our skirmishers returned, having destroyed a significant portion of the enemy foolish enough to forge ahead.

CONTACT!

@I.F. Ister
@DeadmanwalkingXI

As ever, I endeavour to be useful.

Battle Tactics
Grid and Liv conspire to combine their Kunnas, to freeze the skeleton vanguard en masse.

Harald plans to focus on repairing defences and disrupting enemy movements, until he runs out of fuel for his powers. Afterwards, he will wade in with axe and shield!

Skuli assumes a place amongst the front lines.

Erik Hardhead plans to hurl logs and javelins into the enemy line, assisted by his Force Kunna. His priority is armoured or Goliath enemies.

So, thinking about it, and looking over the wording of the warning from @weeblypanda I don't think this is a distraction, I think it's just that we're only seeing half the army because half is underwater. We'll need to fortify our right flank if so, and knowing for sure would be good.

@Vanestus Dyri Saeaborne can you take a quick dive in the ocean and see if there's an army there as well?

That's on top of the seeress doing divination on a distraction, of course.

As others note, Giant's Blood and Bloodline stuff are the other big ones. And artifacts...you could get those in play, but not usually by just paying for the one you want. EDIT: Oh, and being a Berserk, since we lack a source of Frenzy.
So our shapecrafter can't Berserker people?
Intersting. Not relevant to my char, but interesting.

Stuff like divination would probably have to be taught by the seeress and not be available at char-gen, right?
Being able to do runecarving would require literacy(runes), right?
