Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Unfortunately, that won't become a thing for another five to six years, as it won't be released until '87.

Until then, we'll have to make due with the Blackmoor, Greyhawk and Mystara settings.
Yes, but it's in truth existed since the 60s, when Ed Greenwood first conceived it. It's not impossible that he could go to Talsorian instead of TSR to have Forgotten Realms made, especially since they seemingly only started working on integrating it sometime around '85/'86. Honestly, one of us could probably just make a pitch of it and have him bring it to us instead.

[X] Plan Let's Invest in Talent
-[X] The Herald of the Change: Francis took a look at the script, and managed to add in one more little… change. But he needs a great actor with gravitas and power. So… You. Nothing but twenty minutes of work on a few shooting days, nothing more.
-[X] The Bros: So let's see this silly Comedy make a wave! DC: 20
-[X] Star Wars Issues: So…George may have been on a vacation. But something has come up. Lawrence and David were arguing for the title. George and David thought Return of the Jedi was better. While Lawrence thought revenge of the Jedi was…more thematically appropriate.
-[X] As the Seasons Change: The Romanian Government respectfully invited you and Brian to see the new memorial you funded last year. You think it would be okay. DC: 0
-[X] Carrie Working Out: Carrie wants to, in her eyes, lose more weight from all the pregnancies she had, and never having a chance to slim down after Star Wars due to the twins, and she wants to do it with you…So you will obliged her.
-[X] Dad's Got Some Issues: Dad has come to you with some troubling news. "Bruce, it's Universal… They're trying to get me to star in some stupid Action film." DC: 30
-[X] In the Interests of Clint: Clint Eastwood was always a bit… strange, but now he is putting his foot down with you. "Bruce, I need your help before I actually shoot someone. Some asshole at Colombia has stolen a Western I wanted, and I need that Western." DC: 40
-[X] The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids!
-[X] Hanging out with the Friends: It's been far to long since you, John, and Robin hung out, so you will go out for some drinks and have some fun. DC: 45
-[X] Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Ed Greenwood. You've seen the setting he's created, Carrie has expressed his liking of it, and frankly you think it would be a great chance to have it be released by Talsorian. Speak with Ed and make an offer of $5,000,000 for the Forgotten Realms setting, and offer him an additional $10,000 for him to be a design consultant.
--[X] John Brabourne. Also known as John Ulick Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne, has just recently gotten the rights for A Passage to India one of the greatest novels to be written in the 20th century, and all he needs now is financing. Make him an offer for Lucasfilms to Produce the film, offer $30,000,000 and leave him with the freedom to choose Director, casting, etc.
--[X] Gary David Goldberg. From what you've heard he's had this idea for a Sitcom that inverts the roles so far seen on TV, making liberal parents having to deal with conservative children. Sounds like a fun time in your opinion, so why not try and talk with him to see if he's willing to have his idea be done for your new channel.
--[X] James D. Parriott. A veteran of television who has worked on many iconic series such as Six Million Dollar Man, Wonder Woman, and Incredible Hulk, Parriott is pitching a Sci-fi show about a time traveler and his sidekick from the present traveling across time to major historical events, and making sure history unfolds correctly. Some cool adventure stories combined with a great concept and educational value, you think it could be an awesome show for all audiences and help develop Lucasfilms' Sci-Fi edge on the small screen.

I disagree with the current plan of buing TSR and once more trying fro a Campus after so many times explaining why it's such a bad idea. And seriously, the franchise again? No, sorry, I don't want us to try and monetize waht is supposed to be Bruce's legacy as explained before.

So, those options are out, and I put the idea to get in contact with different people in order to shore up our different ventures; Ed Greenwood to gain the Forgotten Realms setting and himself as our design consultant, John Braeburn to get one of the best movie adaptations of an excellent novel and get it done before 3 years pass, and of course getting Family Ties for our TV Channel.

Well, that's it.

[X] Plan Let's Invest in Talent

Firstly in regards to Orion's business plan, I do not think that it's wise to purchase TSR when we've just created Talsorian. I said this before when it came to buying Charlton, but buying another company that specializes in your subsidiary's main product right after you made/bought it is going to lead to major tensions and unnecessary overbloat. Imagine the betrayal that Mike Pondsmith will feel that right after publishing Cyberpunk 2013 and his comapny working on the Star Wars RPG, we just bought his biggest competitor and the author of the famous and beloved Dungeons and Dragons? Mike will probably feel insanely jealous and slighted that we are pushing Talsorian, the company we intended to push our tabletop through to the side. Don't forget that we already have a shit ton of bonuses to Talsorian thanks to Magoose rewards.

To me, it just doesn't make sense for Orion to do this after he pushed for Talsorian support so massively with lots of omakes. This is completely different from Hanna-Barbera purchase because Hanna-Barbera makes American cartoons while Sunrise makes anime and Hanna-Barbera does comedy while Sunrise is mecha and superheroes, and Dreamworks overall handles films. Talsorian and TSR under Lucasfilms would be two companies competing in a niche market. It'd just get ugly fast.

I guess I could live with a plan that does the Bruce Lee franchise, but I'll never give an inch on the Lucasfilm studio campus thing. Just build up the Irish film industry by distributing Irish films or partnering with Irish studios.

As substitutes, let's support Talsorian Games by adding The Forgotten Realms to its IP Catalog. In regards to Dungeons and Dragons, we should just try to either do a GI Joe and do a partnership to make a D&D film or series, or later once Talsorian has been properly built up, we do a Wizards of the West Coast, buy TSR when it's in deep financial troubles, and merge it into Talsorian.

@overmind I do like your Network plans, since we have another free action from The Bros distribution, can you please include this to build up Lucas TV's catalog?

For those who don't know, I'm referencing Voyagers! which is a neat show that combines early Doctor Who with Mr. Peabody and Sherman sort of and I think can be an 80's Classic.

We have another action? I thought it was only 12. Well, yeah sure, I can add it, but can we get @Magoose's confirmation first?

It's like a prototype Time Squad!

In the past, the movie distribution has been established as having a free action so it doesn't cost anything to do. Most of my plans usually had 13 or 14 actions with distribution. So you can add another ones so its 12 actions plus the free action. It's just that your last plan had 10 actions and 2 free actions, and I thought it was fine as is.

If you don't want to buy TSR, that's OK, but honestly studios and corporations buy and create several subsidiaries that work in the same fields ALL THE TIME... So I think that you are overflowing the "Bloat" and how it will be a treason to Mike waaaay too much.

...I feel so dumb right now.

Alright, sure I'll add it.

I still think we should start buying up that land since it's so time critical, but I suppose we could spare a turn. Would've made my own plan, but I'm wrapping a homework assignment as well as putting some finishing touches on the Red Dead Redemption pitch. I should be able to get that out either tonight or tomorrow afternoon(because of classes).
TSR when it's in deep financial troubles, and merge it into Talsorian.
"What's TSR stand for? Talsorian, of course!"
$10,000 for him to be a design consultant.
That seems kind of low? Idk, I'm terrible with stuff like that. It's why I dropped out of studying accounting.

We are not them!

IN OTL, Greenwood was given $5,000 for Forgotten Realms and $1,000 to be a design consultant. I just multiplied it by 10 and hoped it would be enough. Accounting was also my worst subject.

Okay, well I was kind of thinking the opposite considering we run things a lot different at Lucasfilms and we have a very close and personal relationship with most of our company and division heads like Mike. I'd rather one day fold D&D under the Talsorian name which already has a shit load of bonuses to it and we might have an opportunity soon considering TSR's financial troubles on the horizon and customers preference for Talsorian.

Even if everything were to be peachy and fine upon an acquisition, I'll still vote for Overmind's out of principled opposition to the whole "International Campus" which is an unnecessary drain on the money which no film company has ever done OTL.

Besides, we can get a few more neat shows and movies with Invest in Talent.

So I just want to say this now.

You will see more films at the beginning of the turn now, as I feel they are becoming far more appropriate at least to show you what is going on in Hollywood.

Also:

Fox:
D100 => 59
Disney:
D100 => 95
Colombia:
D100 => 62
UA:
D100 => 92

Sony and Disney are cooking at the box office despite everything being shitty since Indiana jones came out with a lot of sleeper hits.

Huh...I'm almost scared to ask, but what about Universal?

TBH I have always agreed some of the campus were an absolute terrible idea (Hong Kong and Puerto Rico), but seeing the benefits that our Japanese campus gives us, the Ireland one doesn't seem that bad...

Having said that, I am very against turning Bruce Lee's Gym into a McDojo, so @Kaiser Chris if you are planning on getting TSR once they get into debt soonish (and not categorally opposed to buying them as overmind), I will probably switch my vote...

Uhh, we don't have a Japanese Campus at all. We own an Anime company, which at best serves to distribute our films, but that's it. it does nothing related to what Orion wants to do with his campuses.

--[X]Producer Rolled:D100 + 100 => 102

Who is hired:D20 => 4

Ian Bryce was someone who was kinda working for Steve Spieldburg as a production assistant… and honestly, you didn't know why Steve trusted him.

But Steve trusted him, which meant the benefit of the doubt was never in question.

Reward: Ian Bryce has been hired as a producer.
I didn't realize this, but we actually recently got another producer, huh?

TBH I have always agreed some of the campus were an absolute terrible idea (Hong Kong and Puerto Rico), but seeing the benefits that our Japanese campus gives us, the Ireland one doesn't seem that bad...

I think the fundamental issue with the Irish campus is that the Sunrise campus works in regards that we have a Japanese subsidiary, Sunrise animation, who is an active contributor to the Lucasfilms catalog and has made some of its most beloved works like Gundam, Miraculous and Pacific Rim. Investing in a large workspace to train and support the work and well being of our Sunrise staff makes sense because they are a crucial part of our business. Ireland doesn't make any sense because we're building in the middle of nowhere, for a national film industry whose talent works in Britain or America and has only released a few films in the past decade.

Look, if some people are really so gun ho about supporting Ireland, then I suggest instead of constructing something from the ground up which boosts a shit load of money for little in return, we instead become the patrons of Ardmore Studios:

Ardmore Studios' is Ireland's only film studio and the minds behind Excalibur, Braveheart and the Tudors. Either right now or soon, they will stop losing government funding and support and essentially be shut down for most of the decade. So we come in, patron them, expand their existing infrastructure, and there you go, Irish movies.
