Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

There have always been times when you've felt pride for your Irish ancestry. The tales of St. Patrick and his expelling of the snakes from Ireland was always a favorite of yours back when you were a child. The stories of Cu Chulain and his many fights always made you feel a sense of awe. Brian Boru and his near attempts to become the High King of Ireland was something you'd once dreamed of turning into its own movie (and hopefully you'd still be able to someday), even the most recent tales of Michael Collins, controversial as they may be, made you stand tall and proud when thinking of how such great men can be born in the small Emerald Isle.

And it boggles the mind how, for so long, you'd never heard the tale of perhaps one of the most courageous, daring and cunning men that fought his enemies not with violence and death, both with compassion and the love of God that you'd wish you could bear upon your enemies. That no one had told his story, save for only a book, shocked you...that is until Paul Schrader managed to write something out of said book, showing the story of Rome in three stages; the euphoric beginning when they all believed the war was to be theirs to win, the sobering reality when the losses and the Nazi occupation began, and the crumbling facade as the Allies approach and the Nazis find themselves with no one to follow.

And in the midst of it all is the man himself; Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, a senior official of the Roman Curia, and a man that at his own personal risk rescued and aided both Jews and POWs in Italy during WWII, both before and during the Nazi occupation. A man who was the closes to a socialite, making appearances in all the right parties and theaters, rubbing shoulders with the ruling class, yet also using them to gather information and pass on messages to his associates to rescue or mobilize those under his care, organizing the many safehouses (such as religious hostels, monasteries, and on occasion a building just next to the Gestapo Headquarters!) with the aid of men and women from all different classes, all united in their mission to save those in need.

That such a man of the cloth had such courage brought to mind the images of the first martyrs of Christ, risking it all in order to follow the Lord's teachings.

Such was the thought of Scorsese it seems, as he made sure to fully display the man's own spirit and courage, further researching on his life to find every bit of detail he could to better display in the big screen; travels to Italy and Ireland to better understand his motivation, interviewing those members of the Vatican who still remembered him to give him as much as they could about his "underground" work to save people, looking at the many places where the men he saved lived at. Martin formed the image of who Hugh was, what motivated his actions, and who his enemies in and out of Italy were as well.

And the result was everything one could have hoped for; Beginning in late June 9th, 1940 where we see the Monsignor going through his daily life, establishing his personality through his actions and responsibilities to those he considers friends as well as to the Curia and the Vatican. The influence that Fascist Rome has over the people as the prospect of war is seen as something to be praised rather than avoided, and the less than proper treatment the Jews receive due to the pact with Germany hints at what is to come.

Hugh is clearly shown as a good man of God and humble servant, with a highlight being him saving a Jewish family from the midst of Blackshirt harassment as the people around go about their life as if nothing is happening. Special emphasis is placed on the thoughts of members of the Vatican on the ongoing war; some righteous men like Hugh advocate for harsher stances of condemnation against the Nazis and moral support for the Allies, while others argue that Germany is in the right for a multitude of reasons; fear of Communism among them, the idea of both France and Britain being the aggressors, and mostly condemning the rumors of the disappearance of the Jews as just "Allied Propaganda". What truly shines is the overall behavior of the majority, which just does not see it as their duty to interfere, believing that just by remaining neutral and out of secular matters they are fulfilling God's will.

Hugh ends the day conversing with Pope Pius XII, a man who is portrayed an inherently good man, yet also one that is deeply flawed. A man who once would have fought tooth and nail against the Nazis, yet now remits himself to conducting diplomacy and trying to keep the Vatican alive. Despite Hugh's insistence for a stronger stance, in the end Pius refuses to do so, leaving Hugh to act on his own even as he prays for him in private. The next day, news is spread that Italy entered the war on the side with Germany, and while Hugh is saddened, most of Rome is in the midst of celebrations, while the city's Jews meet and discuss preparations for the worst.

The first Act shows various scenes of Rome and the Vatican between the invasion of France and Germany's occupation of Rome. While some of the Church are rooting for Italy to win against the "Protestants and Atheists", Hugh shows compassion to the Allies and spends most of his days scouring through the POW camps, attending to the sick rites, the mass and confessional needs of Catholic prisoners...and secretly smuggling in comforts and sending word of prisoner's survival to their families through the Vatican Radio.

His efforts anger the Italians but he has the backing of the Pope, not to mention the aid of Sir D'Arcy, the ambassador from Great Britain who uses what meager political power he has (as well as the funds in his possession) to aid him in his quest. As time grows, restrictions and tyranny grow tighter in Rome while acts of brutality against prisoners, civilians and Jews grow, different individuals from all parts of Rome are shown; from American POW's, to jews living in Ghettos, members for the resistance, and the German contingent now in Italy. Hugh makes first contact with them at a diplomatic party, where he meets Herbert Kappler, the man in charge of the Gestapo in Rome, and though he tries to be courteous at first, he soon discovers that Kappler is not interested in anything save the crushing of the opposition.

The second act begins with the occupation of Rome and building of the resistance. Kappler, whoa t first shows himself as just a dutiful soldier, now shows the depths he will go through when his first act as the SS Chief of Police is to round up more than a thousand Jews and send them to Auschwitz, and then extort the survivors for 50 kilograms of gold, hinted at being entirely for personal benefit when afterwards he's seen buying his wife a score of expensive jewelry. Hugh takes immediate action, meeting with his fellow conspirators who agree that it would be a betrayal of Jesus to turn away those that are suffering. The resistance is built from the ground up, using the Vatican's neutrality to organize under the nose of the Nazis and then begin the smuggling and rescue of both Allied POWs and Jews, with Hugh participating in many missions himself using disguises and wits to outsmart the Nazis and lead the prisoners and Jews to safety in the Vatican and other Church grounds. Some of them seeming to come out of the page of adventure novels, yet all of them clearly part of history; an assassination attempt on Hugh which he avoids through beating his would-be assassins through boxing and escaping, disguising himself as nun to move through the Vatican and Rome, helping a man escape the Gestapo through tricking Kappler to give him his signature, smuggling Jews into the Basilica of Saint Clement to celebrate Hannukah, etc.

Of course, these actions lead to Kappler discovering Hugh's role, even though he has no proof that can be used. It's a game of wits where Hugh is clearly running rings around him, and Kappler's own temper and family life suffer as a result.

The third act focuses on the climax of the resistance leading to Rome's liberation as the Nazi grip tightens, yet Rome grows more defiant by the day. Hugh's managing to shelter thousands of people, but at the same time Kappler grown wiser, in a stroke of luck managing to capture and kill some of the resistance members and sheltered people, leading to scenes of grief and struggling faith for Hugh. Time is not on the Nazi's side however, and with each passing day the Allies move closer to Rome.

Realizing that the war in Italy is lost and he cannot hold Rome, Kappler arranges a meeting with Hugh, who at this point due to being exposed cannot leave the Vatican, and asks for mercy and help in sheltering his family who he believes will be killed by the Allies. Hugh breaks his usual piety and lashes out in heavy anger at Kappler, claiming he serves the anti-Christ and is an agent of evil and demanding why after all the sins he committed after all the innocents he killed and made suffer, should he expect any mercy from the righteous. Kappler departs, some small seeds of doubt forming, only to return home and find his wife had run away with their children, having previously witnessed an execution of Jewish families and realizing the monster her husband had become.

The final act shows the liberation of Rome with Hugh and his allies along with the surviving Jews no longer hiding and breaking out in joyous celebration as Pius presides over mass, thanking God for seeing them over the dark times and that just as the Church had experienced many nights of suffering before, now the morning has come and a new day is here for all children of God. Kappler, now a broken man worrying about the fate of his family, is now going through the motions. Overseeing an increasingly poorly supplied unit of old men and children, used mainly to commit pointless crimes while Germany is losing by the day, Kappler begins to see the lie that Nazi Germany was, but is never motivated enough to defect or defy the party, with him being captured by the Allies and put on trial by the Italians for high crimes, a fate that Kappler accepts.

In the end, a year after the war, Kappler is rotting in an Italian prison, being treated poorly and with disgust by his captors for his crimes, accepting of his fate. One day he's told he has a visitor, and is brought to a different room to find Hugh there, who informs him that his family are alive and doing well in Switzerland, with it being hinted that he was responsible for their passage to safety. Kappler breaks down in tears, and confesses his long line of evil deeds, with Hugh listening on in solemn company.

Such an amazing story brought tears to your eyes when you first went to see it. Scorsese mastery of directive skills stroke gold once more with perfect cinematography, allowing for the Christian symbology to shine through despite showing what in many cases would be described as an adventure7spionage films. In fact, when you spoke to him about it he mentioned how he'd made sure to read many of the "Scarlet Pimpernel" books in order to get a feel as to how they could be better portrayed. Not that he needed them that much, as nearly all of Monsignor Hugh's adventures could have come up from said books letter by letter.

History truly is stranger than fiction.

The cast for the movie had also been a concern of yours, as they needed to show the depths of many characters, not only just Hugh, yet it managed to do so thanks to truly inspired decisions; Pierce Brosnan as Captain Michael Sterns, James Cromwell as Pope Pius XII, Harry Dean Stanton as Giuseppe Lampronti and Christopher Plummer as Sir D'Arcy Osborne...each and every one of them brought a different perspective for the movie, each with their own drama and tension in a city where every wrong movement would lead them to death or a concentration camp. Not to mention the chance that the Vatican's neutrality might be violated as well. Both Brosnan and Cromwell fit their roles like a glove, as the American POW turned protector and rescuer, as well as the Pope who wants to help but is constrained, whether by choice or circumstance is left to the audience to decide. Stanton and Plummer's roles were a surprise though, Plummer originally auditioning for the role of Kappler before finding he better suited the statelier D'Arcy, while Stanton was felt to be too old at first to play the role of an Italian Jewish member of the resistance, yet his dedication and performance eventually won them over, showing a true spirited performance that gives justice to all those oppressed who chose to fight back in any way they could.

Of particular note however are the men who played both Monsignor Hugh and Herbert Kappler themselves. Of the later, you'd seen how Rutger Hauer managed to steal every scene he's in when he acted in Blade Runner, and he once more brings that whole grander than life charisma when he works as SS-Obersturmbannführer Herbert Kappler. His every movement, look, and even his manner of speaking bring to mind an extremely vicious beast, one that is inly barely held in check by the weakest of chains, wondering when or if this will be the time where it will finally snap. Such a man would have made himself the basest of villains, yet Scorsese showed his humanity as well, as the family he so loved was one of the few links to his humanity. And his concern over their fate what finally pushed him into abandoning his most brutal side in order to protect them.

Kappler, in the end, shows us a man. An evil man, yes, but also a simple man, one that was taken by the most disgusting ideology and turned into a monster because of it, only barely being able to get away from it when love and forgiveness was introduced once more into him. In a way, he's a reflection of every man and woman, and the depths to which we can fall as well.

If that is the case with Kappler, then it is Monsignor Hugh where we see the highs humanity can reach, the acts of kindness and selflessness that one can accomplish when they are pushed to an extreme, or even in everyday life. Though you'd never heard of Michael Keaton before, save for perhaps some comedic role he participated in, Scorsese was certain that he had what it took to play the role for Hugh. and what do you know, he was right once more. In a role that can only be described as a "breakthrough" for his career, Michael managed to imbue the character with his courage, selflessness, cunning, and even a sense of humor that made him stand out in any scene he was in. Of special note are those scenes he shares with Rutger, where the tension seems to grow as both sides confront themselves in game of words trying to trip the other out. You could almost feel the heart pounding in their chests.

Furthermore, if Kappler was the darkness, then Hugh was the light in the movie. And just as it always is, the light conquers the darkness, as Hugh goes in to redeem Kappler and help him on the road to conversion and redemption. A true story of amazing adventure, high tension, all packed together with a good message of courage in front of adversity, and forgiveness instead of hatred.

And it seems that you were not the only one who thought as such, if the numbers coming from both Italy and Ireland were anything to tell home about. Both countries had adored the movie, seeing it as a true symbol of their own land, with Hugh O'Flaherty being honored in different ways by both the Vatican City and the Irish Government. News of anew monument being built in Killarney are already reaching your ears, while a new initiative lobbied by the Eternal City to have him be declared "Righteous among the Nations" for his role in saving over 2,000 jews is already on the way.

As for the home market...it was fine. Nothing like it was seen internationally, but it was still quite a good movie for everyone who still enjoyed a good story that promised both high risk missions, spectacular and fun adventures, while also giving a good message of good and evil. There is certainly nothing to complain about the movie. Though you fear that, in a way, much of the audience considered this movie as another biopic, and after two months of them they feel somewhat tired of them. It would explain why at the beginning there did not seem to be that much of an audience, up till the end when word of mouth finally managed to get enough people, if only a bit too late to make much of an impact.

But as for the critic reception, well it seems Martin's impression on the critics has not diminished a single bit. Praise was heaped upon the film, both for the historical accuracy, as for the symbolism and depth for the characters. The nuanced approach to Rutger Hauer was also praised, even if most of the criticism that came from the audience (and some of the critics as well) was about how they could give a Nazi a redemption arc. Seems like they did not do their research, or they would've known how it was something that happened in reality.

Already talks about the future Oscars are being talked about, with at the very least nomination of the movie being bandied about. You don't know if the academy is going to be that generous, but in this case you don't think they have a choice. The movie was just that good, enough for people to make a fuss if it's not at least mentioned during it.

All in all, not a bad film for a nearly forgotten story.

A living saint huh? I wonder, once Bruce kicks the bucket if he will be canonized....

What would he be saint of I wonder? Maybe patron saint of Hollywood or maybe patron saint of movies? I know there is a patron saint of actors and theatre but not of movies and TV shows.

Also imagine Mary... Daughter of a saint.

-[X]The Dreamworks Project… Voice stuff: So good ole Tomino wants you to do some voice lines for a few characters, something that really makes you wonder what he is planning. Actually, what are you planning Tommino? DC: 25 Rolled:D100 + 30 => 91

Tomino showed you but one picture. One picture that was really strange.

It was Conan the Barbarian, and you were shocked. "You want to make an Animated Conan show or something?"

Tomino nodded. "No, that was to get your attention." He showed another picture, of some purple-haired-looking… dare you call it a pretty boy, or something. "Paptimus Scirocco. The main narrative agent besides Jamatov of the Titans."

"What? Tomino, I don't read any of the Gundam stuff beyond what stuff you need to approve."

He looked surprised for but a moment. "Wait, you don't read the expanded universe?"

"There's a Gundam expanded universe." You asked.

"Well, more for the Universal Century's wider world, context, interpersonal relationships, government and bizarrely enough an unauthorized in-universe documentary about the war." He said completely seriously as he said that last one.

"Sounds reasonable-" You said.

"It was unauthorized and we destroyed it…because it had spoilers thank god." He said. "But back to whats important…He's from the Man from Jupiter an enigmatic agent of uncertain loyalty that is slowly playing the entirety of the conflict to the end of his wider goal of ruling all from the shadow. I need the smartest and most cunning man I know, to voice him."

"Why not get Mike?" You asked. "You know… the man who for all intents and purposes built Lucasfilm on the business ends.

"Mike is well…I didn't think he was right." Tomino said without a second word. "Plus, can you imagine him in any sort of film?"

Good point. "Alright…how do you think I was perfect for the role?" You asked.

"He's a dark reflection." Tomino started. "A dark reflection of all the characters within the world of Gundam, he has the technical skills of Amuro, the bravery of Kamilie, the charisma of Char; the brutality of Girhen."

"So…he's basically Luke and Han rolled up with Tarkin?" You said trying to get the feel.

"Oh he also built the most Powerful Mobile suit in the show in terms of Armor, and durability and he's a more powerful Newtype than Char, Amuro, and the Newcomer Haman."

"Who?" You said

"Leader of Axis Zeon and debately the real winner of the show, even though she shows up at the 75% mark and betrays nearly every deal she's ever made, watch the AEUG and Titans kill each other and swoop in to deal with the survivors," Tomino said.

"Uhh that's dark and morbid, and lacking even the hope of Empire or even Gundam itself."

"We're still trying to iron out the later half of the show. Trying to find the balance between the despair of war and the hope of a better tomorrow." He finished. "But I really wanted to go all out on this… impossibility before it reaches triumph."

"I feel like this isn't all the way done yet?" You said,

"Listen Bruce all I need is your voice and sense of presence. The rest will fall into place." He said. "Hopefully."

Oh…Oh boy, your first villain role…and here you thought you'd be playing a Bond Villain?

Reward: So he wants you to play the bad guy. Cool.

Huh, we're playing Scirocco. Well, if I ever needed motivation to rewatch Zeta Gundam, this is definitely it to try and see how to make Scirocco cooler and make him a more active and spread out presence throughout the series. I guess we make Scirocco more of a Char clone and present at all the pivotal moments, always managing to deliver some hard strikes on the AEUG. Tempted to have him show up leading the Titans remnants in ZZ, but it takes away Kamille vs Scirocco which is one of the best fights in all of Gundam. Guess we might need to produce ZZ Gundam soon afterwards to have some triumph and bring light back into the franchise. Looking forward to Bruce being an anime icon.

-[X]Carries Plans: Carrie walked over to the bedroom and you were surprised at what she was wearing. And she locked the door. "Come on Bruce." She said. "I have some plans." DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 60 => 145

You knew what was happening the moment she locked the door. She was in her gown, and you knew she wasn't wearing anything under. the special that you both knew what was happening. "Carrie we're not doing this. Not tonight."

Carrie pouted. "You never said that before with all the other times."

"But this time is different." You replied. "Mostly because of how tired you are."

Carrie seemed shocked that you had said that. "I'm not-"

"Carrie, when was the last time you didn't worry about Joseph or Sarah, or Mary, and sleep in their room so that you could care for them when they weren't feeling well."

Those words struck her. "You have been-"

"I have been doing my best to make sure that I can help you the best I can. But you need to remember that there is only so much I can do. And we both want to do so much more. So I'm asking you, Carrie... Can you do it without me? because I don't want to do it without you?"

Carrie then sat down next toy. "I feel selfish for-"

It was no selfish. "Its not, but it is something that I don't want to force on you, or you onto me. We were ready... mostly for Mary and Joseph and Sarah... I don't want us to not be ready for this."

Carrie then hugged you. "Okay."

"I love you." You whispered.

"I know."

Reward: You and Carrie talk and are adults about the whole thing.

Huh, so what does this mean? Carrie agrees to hold off on making another kid for now because they're too busy with Joseph and Sarah? I never got the impression that she was struggling so much in the past but makes sense with twins you want to make sure all the kids got a good foundation before adding another one. We could always try after Return of the Jedi is done filming.

-[X]A Charitable Heart: You want to invest your newfound wealth. Maybe even save some lives while you are at it. (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to donate in)
--[X] Project Lighthouse, $200 Million. You wish to do what you were denied last year and provide aid to the Cuban and Haitan refugees who arrived during the Mariel Boatlift. With Reagan in the White House and a conservative Congress, hopefully you should be able to provide aid without any federal interference, espeically now that the refugees are in America. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 123

To think that people would have accepted your help that you were declared a human trafficker and a terrorist by… well Castro.

Considering what he is doing to those people, and what they are choosing to flee, you consider it a compliment. So instead of returning them to Havana, you had your people bring them to the closest port... Miami.

However, there is a clear and present thing that you have to do.

And as it turns out, the Mayor of Maimi, when he is not mad about the drugs flowing to his city from the cartels, is more than happy to bring in the Cuban and Haitian refugees, as long as you pay them for resettlement costs.

Something that was really a drop in the bucket when you think about it, because according to America, you were helping people against the communist menace again, and that you needed to do their patriotic duty to help those people become Americans.

These people were truly fleeing from horrors that were beyond imagination, and most of them wanted to remain in Florida… Mostly because they had nowhere else to go.

And many more wanted to try and repay your kindness.

Reward: You have rescued hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing from Cuba, and Haiti, and many of them are remaining in Florida to have a chance to save their families.

The Pope called and called you a living saint for rescuing so many of God's Children.

It felt nice.

The President has invited you for something…

Nice to spread freedom throughout the land and help more people experience the American dream. I'm guessing Bruce helped a second wave of migration and is seeing a couple hundred thousand more refugees settle in Florida?

Also calling it now, we're gonna receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom next turn from Reagan. Will also be a nice boost to fight against the puritans in Congress, attacking Bruce after he just saved hundreds of thousands of lives and got the highest civilian award.

-[X]Hanging out with the Friends: It's been far to long since you, John and Robin hung out, so you will go out for some drinks and have some fun. DC: 45 Rolled:D100 + 30 => 40

You Robin and John were all tired and just had a few drinks, before falling asleep.

There really wasn't much fun to be had with all the work you three are putting yourselves through.

Failure. But you did spend time together.

-[X]A Well-Known Fan: So some really famous person is a fan of yours. Maybe you'll learn who they actually are. DC??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 44

Well so much for that. At least people aren't trying to make you your enemy of you, or them… for some reason.

Failure
----------------------------

-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] $50 Million. You want to survey the Los Angeles area and try and find some good apartment complexes to purchase. Your old complex has been doing great, and can see a lot of potential in the real estate market, not to mention providing some good quality homes for local renters. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 43

Why the city council would refuse your attempts to try to build more housing, you don't know.

But they flat-out refused to see your team, and they refused to let you do any surveys.

You thought it was political, but then you realized it wasn't that. There were just other people that were putting more money into it, to keep you out.

Curious.

Failure.

Huh, could have sworn we got far more omakes than just 3 for the +10 bonuses this turn. I guess there's a limit? Oh well, at least we didn't fail anything too major.

Huh, so what does this mean? Carrie agrees to hold off on making another kid for now because they're too busy with Joseph and Sarah? I never got the impression that she was struggling so much in the past but makes sense with twins you want to make sure all the kids got a good foundation before adding another one. It means that Bruce thinks, for very good reasons, that if they have more kids, right now their professional lives would make them bad parents and it would lead to another Debbie Eddie situation.

That's what I was trying to write without directly stating it

Okay, so they can have more Goslings in the future, it's just that Bruce wants to wait until they got their professional lives under control and there's no risk of repeating history with Carrie's parents?

Say guys won't this mean that Castro will try to kill us and if it's revealed hat he did but failed I wonder if that leads to the citizens in his nation to rebel

I've noticed that there are many good movies that Warner would've produced/distributed (which they now won't) but this is an opportunity for us to at the very least make sure they are distributed by Lucasfilms. We should try to contact them when we have the chance.

A living saint huh? I wonder, once Bruce kicks the bucket if he will be canonized....
Oh Fuck. imagine having to Organize the funeral of one of the world's most famous noncontroversial Actor who is also a living Saint. The amount of people visiting the funeral parade would be in the hundreds of millions and you will have almost every leader and famous person in their paying their respect to the lad.

Try Billions on this one since we're so influential we literally bend the world to do weird shit

listen Kaiser, normally I would be on top of writing right now, but I've been exhausted for the past few days.

Alright guys, I've updated the list once more for the movies in production and released, added the scripts, and also put in Marvel and Hannah-Barbera, as well as Sam Raimi as our new director.

Check it out and let me know if I've missed anything.

Like 90% of Japan would show up.

Dang, that got me in the mood to try and do some sort of movie about Agent Garbo. He applied to be a spy for MI5 against Germany but was rejected. But decided that if the British weren't going to help him stop the Germans he'd just do it himself. So he signed up with German intelligence who sent him to set up a spy ring in Britain. But instead he just went to Lisbon and sent fake reports to the Germans for the whole war. Even writing up dossiers on the entirely fake agents that made up his fake intelligence network in Britain.

Eventually the British catch on to his 'network' but discover that rather than being a successful German intelligence agent he's literally just some guy trolling the Germans. So they bring him onboard and have him feed the German's more fake information along with real information that is just out of date to really be useful. He became such a 'prized asset' for German intelligence that they even gave him an award. He was instrumental to Operation Fortitude, the big operation to get the Germans to focus their defensive efforts for D-Day at Calais instead of Normandy.

Slight problem though, Garbo's identity of Juan Pujol García and that whole story isn't publicly known until 1984.
So...maybe in a couple of turns in 1985 when all that information gets released.

Not even Bruce O'Brian can overcome Fidel Castro's Plot Armour.
Hmm...this weirdly gives me an idea for an Isekai, where Fidel's the Isekai!Protag getting increasingly pissed off at this random OC [that being Bruce] demolishing the entire plotline of his favorite Anime.

[Turns out though, that the Protag is to be the next Demon Lord and someone up above wasn't too happy with that kinda Wish.]

Having done my patriotic duty for Super Earth and playing Helldivers 2 recently (Really great game), it makes me wonder if we can introduce atmospheric pod warfare into Star Wars, something that is pretty absent from the franchise. I think you could make an argument for it having a place in Star Wars with the ability to provide rapid deployment for special forces into planets through means that would be too fast for anti-air batterys to deal with. Maybe you can have assault pods be important because they can breach planetary shields and thus insert infantry needed to capture important sites or lower the shields.

I think they would have been pretty common in the Sith Wars but absent in the Clone Wars since Droids don't need them and Clones are too valuable to send in drop pods. Then you have the Empire reintroducing assault pods because it's got trillions of expandable Stormtroopers to use and sending in Stormtroopers to crush rebellions with death from above seems the Empire's style. Meanwhile, the Rebellion due to poor resources doesn't use assault pods except in the most critical of conventional battles with special forces unit, but the New Republic begins to use them commonly around the Thrawn Campaign.

While I can certainly see this being the case, and can certainly see it being absolutely terrifying and awesome to watch, I will remind you that the closest analog we have to ODST and Helldivers are US Paratroopers, so methinks that George would be reluctant to give that type of advantage to what are ostensibly Space Nazis. In all honesty, I can see it being one of those things that comes in and out of favor because they're not only meant to act as shock troops but also acts of desperation.

It's because of that, methinks that the likeliest source of origin for those sorts of tactics [inUniverse] being the Mandalorians, which means that the ARC troopers [and other special forces groups in the GAR] had been taught them by their instructors, so that by the time the Battle of Endor Kashyyk rolls around, we see Rebels [led by Rex] using it against the Empire when we get to see their sort of D-Day take place.
