For that reason, as a recompense to those that felt slighted by my example, I'll take my leave until the time would come for it again, which is unlikely with all the great creators on this thread like @Kaiser Chris, @overmind, @Orion Ultor, and others I haven't mentioned keeping the creative image alive.
Bro. No one is asking you to leave the Quest or stop making content. You just had a very strong reaction in opposition to you giving Code Geass, one of the most beloved and popular anime of all time and one many Questers likely have strong feelings for, to one of the competing studios when it was made by Sunrise, a studio that we own.
First off, Studio Ghibli making Code Geass is extremely OOC and unnecessary, not to mention completely against who they are as a company. Studio Ghibli only works on animated films so that automatically crosses Code Geass out. Secondly, Code Geass no matter how one may view it, objectively has most of the things that Miyazaki hate and is most likely part of the recent anime that he loathes. It's a violent show that has war, Miyazaki hates war. It has kawaii anime girls and moe, Miyazaki hates that. Most female characters exist for fanservice and don't have much agency or strength, Miyazaki hates that. It glorifies tech and industry, Miyazaki hates that and prefers nature. Plus I think he would just generally hate the art style.
Code Geass is not something that Miyazaki would ever tolerate against his studio and it's a complete tonal whiplash for the studio culture and style. It's like if you had Pixar do Hazbin Hotel.
In regards to Mecha, Gainax is on the horizon and is still likely to do Evangelion and Gurren Lagan unless someone moves to take them. Plus, I think with Gundam and Pacific Rim's success, it would make sense that other studios in general would want to explore mecha, so there's nothing stopping anyone for creating original mecha for the competition or exploring an obscure mecha show with a different company, anime literally has hundreds of different mecha shows and movies that other companies can make.
I'll accept the criticism of that, and the willingness to pull out the entire omakes and prompts I've made from the very beginning of my appearance on this quest to now if stabilizing the Animation Industry to make the quest a bit fun seems to be a bad idea to Magoose.
Even as someone who has fought for the right for others to do prompts for the competition to make things fun, we don't need to "Stabilize" the animation industry when we're already on that path to begin with.
First off, Disney is not some helpless loser settling for silver against Dreamworks, Magoose confirmed that the Disney Rennasaince is literally jump starting the Rennasaince a decade early and as such they get +200 rolls to animated movies. Fox and the Hound didn't roll super enormously but they were positively received and made ten times the budget. Plus the next release is gonna be the movie that Cat has been writing for so that's likely to get a huge boost.
Disney has gotten the Looney Tunes so the Tunes and the core Disney cast are likely to get lots of love. Disney Channel is gonna be released soon so that's tons of potential for beloved cartoon shows to come on in the 80s that can be just as good, perhaps better than our stuff in some cases. Now that Dark Disney exists they'll likely make some movies and shows in animation exploring serious or mature themes like how they did with War of the Worlds. Heck, Disney technically jumpstarted an animation renaissance with War of the Worlds which performance and quality wise is on the same level as our Star Wars.
In the realm of anime, Disney is now openly partnering with many anime companies so lots of studios whose content of this time wouldn't be known in the West for 30 years unless they got a lucky VHS release will have a chance to become mainstream here with Disney backing. So even if Sunrise technically is the king of anime, lots of studios will have plenty of opportunity to make it big across the world and find their own success and niches. Kids will likely be able to watch a shit load of anime on the Disney Channel alone, nevermind any studios who we want to partner with and show on LucasTV.
In regards to anime movies, considering animation is getting huge mainstream success and the Japanese Invasion is ongoing, I could easily see lots of anime films getting mainstream box office releases in the US and some having performances comparable to the recent releases of the Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia movies. If you want, I'll even ask Magoose to roll for some of the iconic anime movies released around this time such as Lupin III: Castle of Caligostro, Space Pirate Harlock, Battleship Yamamoto, Galaxy Express 999, etc. and I'll do the writeups for them. If Magoose Dice is generous, they'll be super hits that'll provide Dreamworks with competition.
Plus, let's not forget that Studio Ghibli is gonna be operational this decade and they'll likely be a peer competitor with Dreamworks with their icons such as Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service. And I'm perfectly fine there with Miyazaki finding grand success on his own, and Magoose will likely give him generous boosts in quality and performance cause he's Miyazaki.
As for American animation, it should be pointed out that in the 80s OTL there was a boom period in animation studios due to the spread of TV, likely to be enhanced even further here thanks to Dreamworks' success on the small screen. So not only will you have the same studios existing, but you'll also have many try to do a greater variety in genres than just kids cartoons. I could easily see the other big channels trying to produce prime time animation along with more care and devotion to Saturday morning stuff.
Lastly in regards to Blue Sky Studios, they flopped with Ice Age but they had the potential to succeed. Magoose gave them a +100 in audience and critial reaction as well as +150 in quality. Objectively, Ice Age was a decent movie probably of similar quality to OTL, it just had shit commercial and reaction rolls. I tried to reflect this in my writeup by having Bruce view Ice Age as a mixed bag that could have been great but was weighed down by studio interference. Hotel Transylvania and other Blue Sky stuff like Rio can be good if they just have good rolls. Hell, I was willing to be generous and do a pitch to let them do Spies in Disguise.
Personally in regards to aiding the competition, here's my personal rules in doing so:
- Do pitches for cancelled movies that they were going to do in OTL but didn't follow through with.
- Do pitches exploring IPs that they already own (My Looney Tunes go To Disney World pitch fits here)
- Do pitches with really obscure properties that no one is attached to, we don't own or will own, or will have interest in
- Do pitches with original ideas
- Do pitches that were hated or garbage OTL and see what happens here
Those are my personal rules and I think a balanced way to handle the competition.
