Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Everyone wants to help:
"And why do people talk about mike like he's a mad Loot goblin only interested in money? Thats only when he's alone and with me or George talking about his plan to conquer hollywood?"
And he's going all. The. WAY!!!
Language Skills: Get Bruce's multilingualism, especially in Russian for possible international collaboration in space missions.
Mary has shown no interests in learning any languages right now, save Irish Gaelic, which she learned from her father singing to her... also Carrie screaming that shit.
I mean, there's an opportunity here that's been overlooked: beating Chris Hadifield in making the first album made and produced in space.

Not only that, but the first to sing an Irish album in space.
Education: Mary has to obtain a robust educational background in relevant fields like engineering, physics, astronomy or aeronautics. Helpful if it's from a reputable university known for its space-related programs.
We're rich enough to where we can just... send her to the best places and private schools in the world. Whether we want to might be a... problem for Carrie.
UCLA is also a top school that can happen, but its for a more general education...
Nothing says she can't gather her Masters and Doctorate from those universities afterwards, not to mention any other foreign schools for those years studying aborad; my vote is for the University of Dublin or Galway.
Extracurriculars: Participate in activities related to space exploration like space clubs (Co-President of the Star Wars official fan club anyone?) and competitions.
Work Experience: Work experience in a field related to space exploration, such as engineering, piloting or scientific research would help massively. Internships or jobs at aerospace companies or research institutions can greatly enhance her resume.
Well depending on what she does in her life... she can do something very cool. Plus she can go work with ILM.

She can get practical engineering skills.
Not to mention gaining practical flight experience and certifications, or those from–
Physical, Medical and Psychological Fitness: Pretty self-explanatory. Should be easy with us around.
She's already trying to learn martial arts.
– the Gym.

Turn 80: October 1980
Turn 80: October 1980

Carrie was still not used to everything. Neither were you, but you noticed that she wasn't in bed when you got up in the morning. And that was the case since you all moved into the compound, your little box where you knew it was safe.

But even then, you understood that she wasn't comfortable here. No one was, even you in a small, unbearable, and frustrated way. It was practically a fortress, you should feel safe here, to be happy. Everyone should be happy here because they are safe.

But no one was. All the modern amenities, all the state-of-the-art decor, the classical designs meant to remind you of New York, the statuary that you talked yourself into getting, filling the halls with marble and carpet. Yet it lacked the coziness that your previous home had. All the bigness was suffocating in the distance that you were creating, a casm of emotions that were slowly, but certainly building between you and Carrie and every one of your children.

A few of the guards they saw were more proof that you had taken things far. Far too far for it to go back to normal.

Movie night was going to change that. Talking to Carrie wasn't going to change that… and by god, this suffocation that you both were feeling was going to destroy you both.

But you were afraid… and you both weren't ready to leave this place.

Carrie to not leave you alone.

You because you couldn't bear being right, and those bastards coming back to finish the job.
---------------

You cannot leave for two more turns.

This place is a prison for your fears.

The place is a prison where Carrie won't let you suffer alone.

The kids are worried for you but don't know why.

[]The Deathmatches: "Mister O'Brian, I know about your situation. If you want to get answers… and stop the madness that your government is refusing to do, and my government has been happy to continue, you must take part in this tournament. If not, they will keep coming, and you will die… or you will come to Java." DC:??? (Begin: A Mortal Combat miniturn.)
Well...

If any option is an insane gamble, this is probably it. 😅

Man, things are crazy when the Bruce is involved.

[]A Strange Request: "His Eminence the Prince of Monaco has requested to hire Bruce O'Brian, martial arts master, to train his son, his wife, and himself in the ways of Master Bruce Lee, and his disciples, seeing as he has been successful in teaching." DC: 40
Certainly an interesting request from a European microstate.
Could be fun. And it gets us out of house.
Helps spread Jeet Kune Do as well.
[]Open Matches: You are going to a boxing ring, and take all comers. You just want to get control. DC: ???
Perhaps not the healthiest coping mechanism.
But Bruce can still prove he's still #1 in the boxing ring. We haven't professionally fought since Muhammad Ali's last match.

Now we're just going full Baki.
It's really dumb idea to take such a vague invitation.
Would be nice narrative fun though.

Alright, for the sequel to Batman (Batman Returns) I feel we should go ambitious. Experimental was fine during the first movie as we were breaking the mold, but now it's time to expand on that, not make a new one.

As for changes to the film...I would prefere if we could leave it as it is, but with Bruce wanting Robin to be included, then perhaps we could have it so that we see the parents of Dick Grayson being killed by one of the Penguin's new gang members, or one of the Falcone members so that we can see how Dick Grayson is nearly giving in to vengeance. For a small change, we can have it so that Dick is around 16 or 17, near the age of emancipation, and Gordon takes him in during that period. That way he and Barbara can bond, as well as work to gether to find the true identity of Batman.

Perhaps we can also make some small story about how Batman saved Dick before, and now he's looking for him to get him to accept him and train him, while Barbara wants the same and both help in deactivating the bombs along with Batman and Gordon (in secret of course).

As for what actor to get, I think all the previous ones will be coming back, including the one who will be the main villain. The others are not that important, so I don't see the need there.

Nah let the Government do their Shit ol'Ronnie Reagan will take care of the CCP when he enters Office.
But then what can Bruce say at the next convention.

"I'm sorry you were taking to long to protect my family from people trying to kill me, so I decided to do it myself."

It would be one helluva power move. :V

Thank you.

[X] I wanna be an Astronaut (Mary sets her sights on the stars)

That's a shame. I was hoping Mary would have some sort of career in film as she does seem to have a lot of passion for storytelling and established traits with creativity, along with the possibility of making a children's book with Carrie. It's not like she has to sacrifice her intelligence for film. Hedy Lamarr established a precedent both as a talented actress and genius inventor.
en.wikipedia.org

Hedy Lamarr - Wikipedia

Plus it also makes me worry for her and Wally's future relationship as it seems like Wally wants to follow his father's career while Mary as an astronaut would have to live in Houston.

"The hell does that mean, Sids have been trying to run us out of business because he dosen't like the fact I and George succeeded despite the bullshit."

"Hey!" Sid protested but Mike quickly took over.

Fun fact, Sid's superior Lew Wasserman, CEO of MCA, is a friend and ally of Reagan who helped him become President of SAG. So I bet part of this truce comes from Lew who sees Bruce as valuable for a Reagan victory and some anger at the Commies.

"That's what we all enjoy. More than anything." Sid replied. "Battling at the box office is far more entertaining and gentlemanly than trying to fight for our lives and… we've brought in contacts all over China, those in the film industry that were educated in the West, or Hong Kong. Most are saying all the same thing."

"And that is?" You asked.

"Seems you've made some people so mad, that they want to nuke LA. Wipe Hollywood off the map, just to make a point." Barry said. "But since they can't do that they've decided to attack Hollywood. Said they want to build a Chinese empire of cinema."

"So, they make shity films, come back when they make something good?"

"Try opening an entire film industry on the Pearl River." Sid said. "They don't do half mesures. I'm talking everything, VFX studios, uh, creature factories, film lots, everything. They even have part of the Army working as film extras as part of extra curricilur activities, and train actors and crews. Even animation experts from Korea."

OH NO. I think I know why China here is becoming so stupid crazy and why they're fixated on hollywood and Bruce. So Mao married a woman named Jiang Qing who was a major Chinese actress and as Mao's wife, Jiang was given major control over Chinese culture and the arts and did her best to develop Chinese film industry while also being responsible for the creation of Mao's cult of personality and designd many aspects of the Cultural Revolution. In the 70's, Jiang was one of the main rulers of China as part of the Gang of Four, a Maoist clique who sought to resist reform and keep as closely to Maoism and the Cultural Revolution's tenents as possible. I think somehow, the butterflies caused the Gang of Four to hold onto power and purge the reformers, with Jiang either retaining her position of influence or becoming Paramount Leader. Thus no Deng Xiaoping and for some reason Jiang is hyper irrational and hostile to Bruce.

What about Journey to the West?

Oh wait, Dragon ball.

Well we do have that Journey to the West animation that Don Bluth was interested in.

[]Choosing a Co-Star: Most of everyone is back, but frankly, you are damn sure that Alan isn't going to give you much of anything and give you want to do
-[]Write in who you wish to cast and for what part.

For this I think the only new people are Robin and Lucius Fox, but I think we all kind of agreed to cast Morgan Freeman as Lucius like Dark Knight. As for Robin, I'm kind of stumped on who to chose. Could Brandon work? He looks kind of like Dick Grayson if one of his parents were Asian.

[]The Way to Shoot: You want to shoot the film your way, and you will do it:

Does this count as an action Magoose?

[]The Deathmatches: "Mister O'Brian, I know about your situation. If you want to get answers… and stop the madness that your government is refusing to do, and my government has been happy to continue, you must take part in this tournament. If not, they will keep coming, and you will die… or you will come to Java." DC:??? (Begin: A Mortal Combat miniturn.)

I know Magoose Quests tend to be heavily divergent and fantastical, but for me this is just too much of a jump the shark moment that is breaking my suspension of disbelief and turns the quest from fun to silly. It was already enough of a stretch that China outright sent assassins after Bruce, something they have never done against an American celebrity with Bruce not taking any direct action against China, but that can be explained away as just a response to Dracula. But Bruce risking his life in a pulpy Mortal Combat scenario just to get the Chinese off his back, potentially dying in the process when the whole reason he's in such a funk because he's so scared of dying or losing Carrie and the kids? That ruins my suspension in what is supposed to be a mostly grounded and fun movies and pop culture quest. I wasn't even hoping for Bruce to get some awesome fight with the Workout action last turn, I just wanted some nice fluff where he exercises with Carrie and Mary.

If this goes forward I'm fearful of establishing a precedent for the Quest of Bruce keep on getting into escalation where he's gotta go into nonsensical Shonen events to save the world or his family. What's next, Bruce has to prevent the near 1983 nuclear missile exchange? Bruce at Chernobyl? Bruce becoming an actual mercenary?

But then what can Bruce say at the next convention.

"I'm sorry you were taking to long to protect my family from people trying to kill me, so I decided to do it myself."

It would be one helluva power move. :V
Well thats the thing its a death match and considering how crazy the MAGOOSE Dice is. If we enter the ring we are a few Crit Fail away to meet Jesus at the Pearly gates

Does this count as an action Magoose?
Yes. unfortunatly. I couldn't justify it not being an action.

Alright fine I'll take it out. sometimes things get a little silly. And I need to remind myself that I can do an omake for the silly.

Trying to balance the fun that comes from the insanity, and the silly that I always throw to remind everyone that this is a quest and not serious.

That's what this is at the end of the day.

But know this! it will appear again... as a film idea.

and maybe as an omake.

I feel like sometimes I get too much into the silly on occasion. having no one to bounce around also kinda... prevents someone from telling me that is insane :(

They have all of their youth to establish their relationship as rock solid friends, so going off to Houston for NASA shouldn't really get in the way of that. Unless you're talking about your shipping of them together which, I'll be perfectly honest, I'm more than happy to see fall to the wayside. It always struck me as very off and weird. The closest thing I think I could use to explain the vibe I get from it is smashing two action figures/dolls together, like trying to put two characters together just because they shared a frame on television where they stood near each other. It doesn't help that the shipping has been pushed for practically since the moment each of them were born, and it just ends up feeling really...off. That's just how I feel about it though. Maybe I'm just losing it, but if Wally and Mary didn't end up together, I'd be more than fine with it.

While Mary and Wally will always be friends, I have no plans on that front, not for a long time.

THe only plans I have for the future that is certain, is WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED WITH INDIANA JONES!?

It's okay Magoose. I know you were primarily motivated by fun and if most of the Questers want to keep it in I'll relent. I just feel like having a legit Mortal Combat action where we risk our life in what is supposed to be a fun Hollywood quest is the one point that crosses the line. To put it into comparison with another athletics event, the Muhammad Ali fight made perfect sense considering that Bruce at that point was a Gold Medal Olympian and had a strong fight against the Light Heavyweight champion. It is escalation that strays from the original premise, but it fits with Bruce's career and how Ali would react.

You're still a great GM Magoose and I sympathize with you heavily. I've had multiple stories or games in the past where my readers told me I was taking things a bit too far and I had to scale back. These things happen.

I do much rather like that this is just an emotional arc that Bruce has to go through where he's at his lowest mentally and sometimes there just aren't things that he can punch, fight or outsmart his way and he has to endure. It's good character building and development for when this does end and I also think it ties greatly into the Batman production where Batman can sort of serve as therapy for Bruce's anger and hopelessness like how It's a Wonderful Life helped James Stewart heal and recover from his WWII Trauma.

So does this mean that the lair arc and Carter dealing with China's bullshit will resolve in two turns?

Things happened the way of canon for Raiders.

And then it got worse before it got better.

Uh oh. Looks like in return for George having smooth sailing through New Hope and Empire, Indiana Jones had to be a greater mess than OTL. Although I thought Steve acquired a trait that nullified disaster rolls?

So does this mean that the lair arc and Carter dealing with China's bullshit will resolve in two turns?
Most likely.

Unless carter rolls some bad rolls, which hopefully won't happen.

Hopefully

Just because Steve has a trait, does not mean there are certian places that negate it because North African shooting is hell.

Tell it to Everyone from Harrison ford, to Karen Allen, to george himself...

And Steve avoids getting dysentery again this timeline because he once again packed his trademark Raviol and spaghetti.
