Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Hey I know, we should fund and produce a Batgirl film, do months of shooting and have everything nearly done, then just say fuck it and make it a tax write off.

I hate WB.
Honestly, I don't get why people keep complaining about that. Damn near everyone involved with the project has said that the film was damn near unwatchable. The only benefit I see it would have had would be the YouTube videos that would have followed to dunk on the film.

...So, I just realized. How crazy could things get if we use our reputation to branch off into video games?
Between the current games=money mindset, the Atari's turbocharged arrogance incoming which made them self-detonate and disgruntled devs go off to form Activision, and possibly other stories I am not that familiar with....
That's been the plan for about 1/3 of the thread thus far.

Never get your hopes up for a modern hollywood film, I bet you 10 euro's that it would have been 'meh at best' film.

I've been sugesting that too, the only question is: When and how we're entering the video game market.

Honestly, the best move is probably look to set up the infrastructure to distribute and basically try and do something similar to our movies. As well, the key will probably be attracting the passionate game devs to our little corner, to get both the skills and creativity to set the stage for success.

Well, I personally favor to wait until Atari collapses and buy them for a dime...

But there are other people ( @Magoose included) that thinking that LucasArts is better of without Atari's Baggage...
Probably a bad idea. Between the arrogance that led to ET and that one pacman game crashing so hard.( No QA and producing with the expectation more than 100% of console owners would buy the game.) And also, the tiny problems of the good devs jumping ship to form their own game company. Plus there is the fact that We'd need to set up quick to try and gather the talents put out of work due to the Console Purge.

Sorry, I guess the main reason I'm so invested in Alan is because of the unjust way he was sacked in the OTL. The board literally wanted to hire back a dude who'd stole 60k from them and Alan didn't wanna do that for moral reasons. Him buying up DC and it being his last big shot tonsave his ass was so dang enthralling to me.
...The fuck. How the hell is this man our enemy now?
I think that's an unfair discription about her. While I will completly agree with you that LucasFilm under her direction has been shit, to say she's a leech is a bit much. Have you looked at her filmography? ET, Who Framed Rogger Rabbit?, Jurrasic Park etc.
Oh right, the movies directed by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis. That only proves my case you know.

Whatever, she seems to be getting better, but I don't want to take the cahnce with her. Not with Lucasfilms.

I mean, the same thing could be said about Michael Eisner being a greedy jerk and his later years at Disney being a trainwreck, yet we hired him all the same. I feel like you're letting your feelings for OTL Kathleen affect your views on Quest! Kathleen here. It's not unjustified, but I think you're not giving Quest! Kathleen a fair shake.

Plus, Magoose confirmed that she is genuinely improving here instead of just seeming like it, with her ego and ability to listen to others being the main changes now.

Event wise, 1979 was the historical time Activision formed, so...
Next turn is a potential opportunity, as if we play our cards right we could get a group of veteran game devs to work with us and help establish a foothold in the industry.

Correction: The higher ups said the film was unwatchable, and even then, they might just be making excuses. The people who were actually involved in the project were all either disapointed or pissed to have all their hard work thrown out for a couple quick bucks.

Oh right, the movies directed by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis. That only proves my case you know.
No it does not, if she's so horrible then why do these great directors keep picking her as a (executive) producer also you're implying that producers do nothing and that all the work is placed on the director even though that is not true. Let's seperate producer Kathleen kennedy from president kathleen kennedy.

Darn it! Logic! My one weakness!!!

..Fine. I can be nice. I can try to put my feelings for that lying, narcisistic, two bit bitch that ruined the best franchises the world has ever seen.

I'll try to give this Quest version the benefit of the doubt.

But the moment she makes a single move towards taking any sort of ownership towards Lucasfilms...

...So...
With Bushnell's departure, Kassar implemented significant changes in the workplace culture in early 1979 to make it more professional, and cancelled several of the engineering programs that Bushnell had established. Kassar also had expressed some frustration with the programmers at Atari, and was known to have called them "spoiled brats" and "prima donnas" at times.[33]

The changes in management style led to rising tensions from the game developers at Atari who had been used to freedom in developing their titles. One example was Superman in 1979, one of the first movie tie-ins that had been sought by Warner to accompany the release of the 1978 film. Warner, through Kassar, had pressured Warren Robinett to convert his game-in-progress Adventure from a generic adventure game to the Superman-themed title. Robinett refused, but did help fellow programmer John Dunn to make the conversion after he volunteered.[33] Further, after Warner refused to include programmer credits into game manuals over concern that competitors may try to hire them away, Robinett secretly stuck his name into Adventure in one of the first known Easter eggs as to bypass this issue.[33] The transition from Bushnell to Kassar led to a large number of departures from the company over the next few years.[37] Four of Atari's programmers—David Crane, Bob Whitehead, Larry Kaplan, and Alan Miller—whose games had contributed collectively to over 60% of the company's game sales in 1978, left Atari in mid-1979 after requesting and being denied additional compensation for their performance, and formed Activision in October of that year to make their own Atari VCS games based on their knowledge of the console.[33] Similarly, Rob Fulop, who programmed the arcade conversion of Missile Command for the VCS in 1981 that sold over 2.5 million units, received only a minimal bonus that year, and left with other disgruntled Atari programmers to form Imagic in 1981.[33]
Opinions on firing shots at atari to steal ourselves some starting staff for our gaming division? Cause 1979 seems prime for poaching. Though we may end up messing with the Superman Gambit going on incidentally.

If anything she's highly unlikely to see any ownership until after we retire. If only because she hasn't made those connections with George Steve and Robert and all the others yet to even see that.

And even then, Mike likes his money and there is no way in hell he'll share with someone who actually hasn't earned it yet.

Give it a few years and tons of omakes and charecter development… you may actually like her…

Unless of course she fails and then things will get wierd.

X]Fighting the Champ: Ali is waiting. You are going to beat him. DC: ??? Rolled:

Bruce:D100 + 230 => 330 Vs Ali:D100 + 250 => 289

The Prize Pool: D500 => 200

Winners purse: 100 million

Losers Purse: 50 million

Another twelve-round showcase… that was all you needed. There was nothing really how much to really do.

Ali went off with his mouth before he said several things. Including one word that he should not have said. "Your wife won't love you when you lose Goose. You're going to be cooked, and little lady will be thinking your not her daddy, because daddy won't lose."

And the bell went off… and 12 rounds passed, and you were facing Ali just as he was facing himself… and he did not seem to realize you were not seeing red, you were not angry.

You were furious. And the last round proved it when you finally stopped playing around. Three body shots from your right, you could feel the cracks from his ribs with each punch as he winced in pain.

Then came the three-jab punch combo.

The jabs got through his great defense, and his defense put him away from any serious danger… but then came your haymaker with the right. And he did not see it, because your jabs put his defending hand right into his blind spot.

And you could feel every piece of his face and head, and he fell down onto the canvas.

Knockout.

You beat him by knockout.

Reward: You beat Ali by knockout the champs career is now closed at an exclamation point by the Emerald Splash.

When Ali woke up, you just handed him over a check for 50 million. The prize money he won… and he seemed to respect that.

Maybe, you didn't know. All you knew, was that you beat him by knockout… and he respected your victory without any hesitation or complaint. He just walked back to his locker room and made a few calls.
Sylvester Stallone while watching:

Holy shit, he had the higher rolls and we still managed to be Ali soundly with a Nat 100. Surely going to go within the all time greatest of boxing fights. Pretty happy with it, we defended our family and our accomplishments and showed we're a really damn good boxer. Gave Ali one of the best fights of his life and he went down with dignity, and we're richer. Pretty great all around. Let this be a lesson to all, you touch the flock you're gonna die.
You know what would be extremely funny...

If we end up befriending Ali somehow, we can put in Rocky III "based on a real story"...
X]A Charitable Heart: You want to invest your newfound wealth. Maybe even save some lives while you are at it. (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to donate in)
--[X] $50 Million. The O'Reily Foundation. Direct the foundation to include South Vietnamese veterans in the foundation's missions along with American veterans. They were our allies who gave everything for their country and lost their homes, just as deserving of support as any American veteran. Rolled:D100 => 99

So… The Goose is absolutely sure that you are helping people… well it led to one thing and another… first it started with a few South Vietnamese people wanting to help their friends get out of Vietnam. Understandable, and the money flowed.

Then it led to them asking questions about those same friends who were… in jail for fighting against the North. Court battles and bribes were needed, so the money continued flowing.

Then you realized that the O'Reilly Foundation was… rescuing POWs and their families who were in labor camps? Smuggling them across Asia to America… by the shipload.

What?

But to say nothing of the great work that you were doing, they were, but most importantly, there were so many south Vietnamese veterans that were being rescued from labor camps using your money that it was rather concerning, and you got a knock on your door from the FBI asking you questions about human trafficking out of southeast Asia.

After a few… very long conversations, you were let off and basically told to keep up the good work.
Well, now I am expecting the CIA contacting the O'Reily Foundation when they need to handle VIP extractions in the Southeast Asia
Also, the Soviets think that your films can stop future revolutions.

Not Lucas Films films… no, just Bruce O'Brian being in a film is warranted enough to ban those films and push for their total blackouts in the eastern block. And uh… they are really making poorly made ripoffs of your films…

That might be wrong though. But it's certainly something your father is laughing about when you told him.
We have to create a new companytradition... Once we got our hands in one of those terrible Chinese/Soviet Rip offs of Lucasfilms movies, we rent a cinema, and go to watch it with friends, family, the crew of the film, and anyone who wants to go from Lucasfilms... Just to have a good laugh all together.

Muhammad Ali walked through the cheering crowd away from the silent actor, the check for 50 million dollars in his hand back to his dressing room and closed the door. From the walls came the slight buzz of reporters and newspaper men in a flurry of activity documenting the fight and sending the results to their respective agencies. Headlines like "Savaged by a Goose" "The last Great fight" "the New Heavyweight Champion" "Judgement Delivered" would adorn newsstands tomorrow. Analysts would talk endlessly about small details. Within the dressing room some serous thinking would need to occur.

Muhammad Ali carefully put the check on the dressing table and then sat down only to wince in protest from his ribs.

He joked once that he was the Greatest not the Smartest but still he could do some basic math. 50 million dollars. That was about the same as his total prizes for every fight he had so far. And that was for losing. It could have been more if he had won. It was for what was technically a exhibition match too.

That was his fault. When he had made the challenge, he was the heavyweight champion of the world and the reply he received from his opponent assumed that he would still be. There had been some debate about whether the fight would be an official one for his belt. Except he had gotten arrogant and lazy and lost a fight he should have won easily. Bruce O'Brian, the man who had just defeated him had kindly not let the loss of the belt affect the fight. He could have cancelled stated that Ali wasn't worth his time and Ali would have been in deep financial trouble.

Ali felt his eyes drawn to the Check again. His largest Payout ever by at least a factor of 10. Well maybe that was dramatic but it would have been close. He was unlikely to get a payout anything like it again. There where no other boxers that could draw that kind of crowd because Bruce O'Brian hadn't drawn the boxing crowd to see the fight that was his work, being the champion who misstepped and the crowd wanted to see him get back in shape and prove he was still the Greatest. The other watchers well there was the Military veterans and otherwise Who had opinions on his draft dodging who boycotted his matches on principle, there were the Christians who boycotted him because he was Muslim, there where increasing numbers of Vietnamese that simply hadn't been in the USA before Bruce rescued them from the communists and the where the politicians who much preferred O'Brians method of turning the screws on them than Ali's. Bruce had one more crowd draw. Bruce was probably the most recognizable actor and studio head in Hollywood, a man who had created a studio out of noting produced the most amazing Films anyone had ever seen won at life with a beautiful wife who was muti talented and famous in her own right. Bruce seemed to be the living embodiment of the American dream.

No boxer was going to Mach that fame, that pull. Heck Ali wasn't sure that any boxer in the ring could even match O'Brian skill. Bruce had won gold at the Olympics back in 76 and if he was assigning numbers for skill he would say that Bruce was at least a 160 pushing a 220 when he fought Sixto Soria. In the Mach out there the much younger man was at least a 300 and probably more.

When he was in his prime, and didn't it hurt to even think of it like that, he could have taken Bruce, it would have been a hard fight, but he could have done it. There was no shame in admitting that at present, O'Brian was the best and could probably get Better. It would be a long time until another boxer came along with the right combination of skill, drive and luck to take that from O'Brian.

A minor tremor in Ali's arm and an increasing feeling of stiffness reminded him that unlike O'Brian He didn't have years, heck with the damage he had just taken he probably didn't even have a year. He had worked hard to get back into shape and this fight was likely the last great fight of his career. If he had won quickly and cleanly, he might have been able to fight in a month against Spinks and get his belt back. Now he was looking at months of recovery to heal and get back into shape. It was still very tempting. There would be a significant prize pool and he Knew he could beat Spinks if he took him seriously and stayed in shape. He wanted to erase the shame of his last match with Spinks, to go all out and retire as heavyweight champion. it would be one more paycheck and a salve to his pride, But if Spinks got lucky…

Eyes turned to the Check. 50 million dollars. Potentially the last fight paycheck of his career. There were still sponsorships and endorsements, but they would dry up too now he wasn't the champ. He was going to have to bank on past glories for any kind of deal in the future. 50 million dollars didn't seem like that much money if that was the last paycheck he was going to get in his life. Ali had bills to pay and debts owing, he could do that now but also he needed to be careful with the rest of this and make it last, to downsize some of his operations and change his lifestyle now he wasn't competing. Maybe getting some finical advice would be worth it. Or he could put it off a little longer, fight Spinks and have one last payday, and if he was honest with himself after the match he had just lost any fight would be an anticlimax. The question was 50 million enough or was potentially another five million what he needed?

Unbidden two names came to mind his doctor Ferdie Pacheco who had been with him for most of his career and had begged him to stop fighting and whom Ali had ignored. Ferdie had left in protest because Ali was not looking after himself. The other was Angelo Dundee his trainer for all but two of his fights. He could give hm some solid advice for who to fight next and how to beat them.it want that Angelo didn't care but that he was too in love with the sport himself.

Ali turned to the phone on the wall there was a decision here of who to call. Ali picked up the Phone and herd it ring. Before the man on the other end could speak Ali begin with a hard statement . "You was right…"

@Magoose THAT WAS AMAZING

Does the fight go down in history as Judgment Day LA

Ali's Voice is wrong but this is what I imagine is approximately going through Ali's head right now.

He has lost what many will consider his real Belt defense but also collected the biggest single prize of his career by a factor of about 10 from that loss. He earned about 5.45 million fighting George foreman in 1974

His OTL biggest prize was about 7.9 million against Larry Holmes which is very unlikely to happen now.

Now if only he can avoid his bad Financial habits and being taken advantage of as per OTL.

As for becoming friends with Bruce I think that it is unlikely. Ali seemed to get on well with Joe Frazier but was apparently never able to bring himself to Apologize to the mans face. He also seemed to Flip flop on the apology based on what was best for his image. Now I might be Biased in my assessment as I have already revealed myself as coming down on Frazier side of the argument but I don't think Ali would give the kind of Sincere Apology that Bruce would need before Bruce would befriend the man.

"That would be unrealistic."
"On the other hand, it would show the hypocrisy of the leadership, while at the same time making it clear that the character IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LIKELY. PRECISELY because it takes a special kind of genius to succeed in a system designed to make you fail."

"That would be unrealistic."

"Realistically Thrawn would fail! His luck is unrealistic!"

Napoleon, Frederick The Great, Alexander..practically every known person in history that isn't tragic in its own right: "Hello there!"

"You're unrealistic..Mary Sues the bunch of you!"

Whenever someone tries using history to prove realism, always point out the great outliers like Russia somehow peacing out when Prussia was on the brink of collapse, Napoleon surviving his near death experiences in the battles and his quick rise to power, Alexanded's luck of having his father create the army for him..

Seriously, History is Unrealistic and yet we're spending more time trying to use realism all the time.

We really do need a show that bring the message of: "Staying in Realism is inaction -- moving forward with Idealism aided with logic, luck, and other variables is moving somewhere."
