Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

I think this might count as a little oopsie on your part my friend. :D
Well, Amon Thoth seems to be a composite character created for the film, while the Novel character's name is Thoth-Amon.

By the way @Magoose , do we need to follow the geography as set by the Novels? Because if so then we cannot use Belit at all. Zamora is a country that borders deserts and is mostly dry. There is also a mountain chain that blocks it from the Great Inland Sea so there would be no reason as to why we would use a Pirate Queen Character.

I thought we could move the action from Zamora to Turan, but that country openly practices slavery, and are dark skinned. Something I don't think we should try to do if we want to show them as more sympathetic.

So, if we want to keep to the geography, instead of Belit, we could use another character; in "Rogues in the House" there was a Half-Ape Half-Man hybrid known as "Thak". He had the strength and body of one of the monstruous Grey Apes, but the cunning and mind of a human. We could use the character in the movie as the collaborator with Thugra Khotan. Perhaps leading a group of Grey Apes with them to fight against Zamora (which borders near the territory of the Mountain Grey Apes).

What do you guys think?

This is more a sidebar, but remember how we were talking about making an action flick for Elvis? How about making one based on the one his ex-wife helped make that was released this year:

Okay so in regards to the extra Conan books, I think we should partially adapt two Conan books to the screen and basically go for a three for one in addition to the original plot. I know Overmind has suggested eliminating the original plot, but if we do that it kind of feels like a real dick move to John to basically remove all of his work and turn it into Conan written by Bruce O'Brian and while the original movie did suck, I blame poor acting and directing which I don't think Steven Spielberg will have.

So in reading Overmind and Magoose's suggestions I think we should adapt "The Tower of the Elephant" and "Red Nails". Tower of the Elephant can serve as part of the first act and be Conan's first adventure with Subotai and Amon Thoth. It serves as a soft intro of magic to the viewers with the audience seeing the tale of the Elephant and all the wizardry, confirming that this is high fantasy and not low fantasy. Not to mention that it's a perfect replacement for the Snake cult tower heist scene. Red Nails can be where Conan meets Valeria and he gets into his first proper military battle as he helps the Tecuhltli defend from the Xotalanc and we get a direct escalation in threat of magic. Then the final act is Conan taking on the quest to defeat Doom, and to spice things up I would suggest Conan leading on a small company of dozens of warriors in an attempted assault, they get destroyed, and Conan gets captured but he manages to severely wound Doom leading to the crucifiction and Valeria's sacrifice. Doom now has motivation thanks to his near death experience to seek out Conan who was just a rando OTL so he leads out a party to destroy him, and thus Conan, Subotai and Amon Thoth have a battle against Doom's Vanguard in the ruined temple with Conan then emerging victorious.

Also in regards to Magoose's original list, get rid of Belit so she gets her own standalone film, for Amon Thoth have him meet Conan in the very beginning and be sort of a down on his luck wizard who is very weak but grows stronger and wiser through his adventures with Conan and then becomes powerful enough at the end to perform the resurrection ritual.

In terms of the other suggestions, Queen of the Black Coast should be a standalone adventure, Black Colossus should form the basis of the second movie or if we do more than a trilogy, be the penultimate before Conan the Conqueror to show his rise to Kingship, the Phoenix of the Sword is a late Conan movie or something for a Conan TV series.

So overall here's my list for the Conan cast:

  • The Prince
  • The Vizier/Narrarator
  • Subotai
  • Amon Thoth
  • Valeria
  • Thulsa Doom
  • Yara
  • Taurus
  • Yag-Kosha
  • Techotl
  • Olmec
  • Tascela

@Magoose With the Alan Ladd production bounus i thought he would occasionally bring flims to lucasflims for dristribution based of flims he served as producer on or do we have to specify in pitches or is it just a role you do every turn?
Alan actually brings in storys in productions, or must be specified in getting producers, or he becomes one on films that aren't specified to have other producers.

Or Alan asks to join production in the regular turns.

So say, right now, he is the main producer of Dracula Blood Origin with Gary Kurtz.

And he's a producer of another film that begins production next year.

That sort of thing.
do we need to follow the geography as set by the Novels?
It would make the book purists happy, but remember that this is an adaptation, and people will expect that things were changed to get to screen to book.

So no you do not.

Since Disney is making Halloween we could be the ones Sean Cunningham brings his "Friday the 13th" idea to. The script would certainly need a major tune-up. It's brief periods of horror with a lot of tedium before the climax.

And I'd have Pamela Voorhees in more of the movie so she isn't introduced right before the reveal. The OTL movie was a bit of a whodunnit that failed because "unmet mother of an unmet boy who drowned" was a rather unsatisfying reveal regarding who was doing the killing.

So overall here's my list for the Conan cast:

  • The Prince
  • The Vizier/Narrarator
  • Sugotai
  • Amon Thoth
  • Valeria
  • Thulsa Doom
  • Yara
  • Taurus
  • Yag-Kosha
  • Techotl
  • Olmec
  • Tascela
Darn Kaiser Chris, when you're right you're right. The novels I suggested do sound better for sequels than introductions for the character. And Red Nails, yeah I have to admit it does fit well with ana dventure story. Though, if we're trying to make it fir with the script written by John then perhaps we could make it so that this happens not so much near the ruins of Kingdoms to the south, but instead by Thulsa's followers in the Kingdom of Zamora (which he's trying to conquer) if only to make it more continuous instead of adventures split together.

Yeah, I think this is good. I'll support this idea if put into plan. I'll start looking for actors that could be used for the roles.

Also I gotta say I just did a read through of the Mike Eisner Quest and I find the contrast hillarious how in that Quest all the major studios were pretty amicable with one another and Universal and Warner Bros teamed up with Disney to make a theme park in Disney World while here Hollywood politics are cutthroat and everyone wants to drive each other to bankruptcy
I decided to be realistic. In a sense. Everyone wants to be rich and famous in Hollywood.

Most movie studios are buissness after all and they are after the almighty dollar.

And since we are at least partially responsible for Hollywood going a little nuts and being turned upside down…

Well there is that bit

Oh boy, this took a hell of an effort together with @overmind who came up with half of the names on this list so HUGE THANKS to him for being a co-author of this plan. We basically tried to find the best contemporary actors who we felt could vibe with the description and give good fantasy performances.
