Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

-[X] Take a Walk: Dad always said that the best ways to get inspiration are by walking, talking, and being open-minded. So you'll try that. DC: 10 (You are just going for a walk, what could be really said?)
--[X] Hike the John Muir Trail: An exciting and inspiring adventure that will take us through one of the most remarkable natural environments in the world - the John Muir Trail. This stunning 211-mile journey through the Sierra Mountains in California will offer us more than just an opportunity to explore wilderness. The hike will also be an opportunity for us to become more environmentally conscious and to appreciate the natural beauty of our planet. Knowing that the trail was named after John Muir, one of the earliest and most influential environmentalists in American history. Muir's writings and advocacy played a key role in the creation of many national parks and wilderness areas, including Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks, which the trail passes through. Hiking through alpine meadows, past towering granite peaks, traversing rushing rivers, and summiting high passes. We will need to pack out everything we pack in, carefully adhering to the Leave No Trace principles. We will also have the opportunity to learn about the wildlife that calls these mountains home, the effects of climate change on the environment, such as reduction of glaciers, and the work done to conserve these places. You plan to immerse yourself in this pristine wilderness, you hope to be reminded of the importance of protecting the planet.

Honestly this is the part of the plan that really rubs me the wrong way. The average hiking speed is 3 miles per hour and considering Bruce has never gone hiking in his life, I would consider that to be his speed. So that means going the entire trail to and back would be 140 hours spent, multiply that by rest and sleeping hours and Bruce spends nearly two weeks hiking on a trail. Considering Carrie is at the lowest point in her life and we have no assurances of Bruce going a good roll, if we low roll for Carrie aid and in the aftermath of failing to help her, Bruce just goes and spends two weeks in the Sierra Madre Mountains just to appreciate nature and learn about the planet, he is going to appear like a massive douchebag to his family and friends for just abandoning his wife when she needs him most. It also is terrible optics even without Carrie being depressed because in-character we're probably going to be needed for Lucasfilms to help with the media promotion for Star Wars and oversee the release of Carrie. I don't think there's really a point to the hiking in the first place considering Bruce sponsored the CARE Act because he cares about the environment and energy production, but let's not do it on the one turn where Bruce's wife is super depressed and literally stated she needs his company to help recover?

I'm also against taking auditions of any kind so Bruce can focus primarily on Carrie and be a good man by placing family over work priority. Bruce should not be thinking of taking vacations, working or not while his wife is depressed and considering past international trips have shown Bruce to travel alone, my dude is literally going to spend weeks out of the country when Carrie is at her lowliest.

--[X] Housing Development [$15 Million]:
I think your forgetting something
Reward: In Two years' time, the Facility will be operational, and while you are not running it, as Linda offered to be looking over the majority of it (says it gives her something to do most of the time when the kids are at school) you will be excepted to meet with the city council before it opens, to discuss… what the city wants.
maybe talk to the city Council before renovating said city?

Couple of things, A) this turn covers a period of three months, meaning those two weeks could take place anywhere within that axis, B) considering there are actions such as Working Out that either maintain or improve Bruce's general level of fitness but still works out independently of the quest focus, it's rather disingenuous to say that Bruce has never hiked before in his life when it could easily be something he's done in small bursts as part of other actions, C) given that Bruce should still be performing at an Olympiad level, those numbers likely get inflated: either his travel distance per day increases from fifteen to twenty miles, or his speed increases from 3 to 8 mph [though at that point, he's trail running instead and only likely on a crit], D) in the other direction, you're assuming Carrie doesn't end up joining us on the hike, which Bruce would likely encouraged to help her get over her funk, giving her something besides work and hobbies to work on.
Again, this turn covers a period of three months, the action itself points out it's a minor role that all but spells out it's not an intensive activity, and seeing as the point of the international audition was to act as an impromptu "working vacation", why wouldn't Carrie come along with him to share in the experience of international travel?

Beyond all this though, the complaint that my plan A) by and large would ignore Carrie and B) is bad for optics, falls flat when your own plan has elements that are geared almost exclusively to make more money [considering our wealth sits at around $200 Mill, whats the point with the Star Wars release happening next turn?], and isn't simply some 9-5 Job when you start factoring in the number of business and commuting hours that takes away from quality hours from Carrie. The Distribution Deal puts Bruce at the forefront since he's by and large both the translator and the only reason the Japanese are at the table [and only nets a single movie across three months], the Investment is all the way over on the other side of the nation and would require a vast amount of interplay between various lawyers and financiers since it goes across state lines [which ignores the fact that is largely a vanity project for his dad, who has the money now to largely finance it by himself without our involvement], and the Networking action, beyond getting Frank Herbert's blessing, is to be a stepping stone to a potential investment that launches another franchise for the Studio.

All told, that's way more hours combined than all the hours you're complaining about mine taking.

Am I wishing to get to Star Wars… yes yes I am.

Is it going to be awesome?

Yes yes it will be

So, assuming we start the production of Kung Fu Kid when Star Wars drops in winter 1976 so we can get it out for summer 1977, I was thinking about casting.

I made it explicit Bruce was going to play the main character, Bobby, but I've been thinking about the other people to cast.

Firstly, Shih Kien as Li. Shih is most known for playing bad guys in martial arts movies in the 70's, his most famous role being Bruce Lee's final foe in Enter the Dragon. I feel it would be ironic and a good opportunity for him to play the good guy mentoring the hero and someone who turned his back on his past life of violence. He's an experienced martial artist. Further he might be more willing to do a role in the movie due to his prior work alongside Lee.

Next is the evil opposite to Li, the evil American mentor, Kyle. For him I was thinking John Saxon. Much like Shih Kien he has a martial arts background, having a black belt in Shotokan and having taken lessons with Bruce Lee, who he was friends with and also worked with in Lee's last movie, Enter the Dragon, which I feel will make him more inclined to work with us. He has a reputation in America for playing straight laced police officers and good bystanders, so that might let us initially trick a U.S. audience that he's going to be a reasonable guy, only to pull the rug out from under them.

The next piece of casting was difficult, Sue Liams is a woman of mixed ancestry, and unfortunately there were very few of them in Hollywood at the time, and virtually none the age we'd be looking at. I eventually decided on Julia Nickson, who at the moment is interested in acting, but is mainly doing small stage roles and won't actually go to Hollywood until the early 80's, an omake might make it so she sees the casting call and comes to Lucasarts to give it a shot a few years earlier. She is most known for playing a role in Rambo First Blood Part II, which I think is a good little bit of continuity if that does end up also being a Lucasarts film (which it looks like it probably will).

James…I have nothing. We need an actor around Bruce's age who can do decent martial arts and a British accent, preferably an actual Brit, but I couldn't find anyone who fits that description. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

Finally, Bobby's mother, I was actually thinking Debbie could take the role, she and Bruce already act like family, might as well just let the cameras roll lol.

I think this is a bad idea personally. Bruce, as many have mentioned again and again, has the built of a heavyweight boxing champion. Now, I may be mistaken since it's been a while since I read the pitch, but Bobby is supposed to be a young kid, and I understand that at this time it's normal to cast adults for younger roles. But I think it's going to be a bit out there if we go with Bruce, someone who is built like a heavyweight boxing champion, and expect people to believe he's a teenager, specially in the scenes where he's supposed to be beaten or defeated.

Frankly, I'd rather he play the role of the villanous teacher Kyle here, as while he does know Martial Arts, his more recent training in Boxing does give him a greater foundation for Western fighting styles, which should fit more for a racist character that is trying to teach others how to fight. Not to mention that it would be a way to show Bruce's range in fighting and a subvertion on the roles he's been playing so far. Besides, the final scene where Li just one shots Kyle with one palm does bring to mind when Bruce Lee did the same to our character.

He's waaaay too young to play Kyle, who here is a Korean War Vet, with the trauma from that being the driving force behind him learning martial arts, so over 40 minimum.

Edit: Bruce is also a Light Heavyweight, which is notably different in size to a heavyweight, and in build, this would also mean Bruce is, again, a secondary character and not the primary, in a movie which is basically a symbolic biopic, and he is barely in his twenties, which is better then the majority of Hollywood for casting, where they usually put 30 year olds as Highschool students.

Hmm, well, he did a good job as Han Solo, who is supposed to be older than what Bruce is, so perhaps make up and his frame can do the same.

But regardless of that, I think it would work better for the film if we find another actor for Bobby. I don't know who, but we should be able to find someone.

I would've suggested William Zabka if he wasn't so young at the moment. Tough luck there
