Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

The New Year Begins Strongly for O'Brian's Turn 42 Results (January-Feburary 1976)
-[X]Post Production (Saved by the Edit): You and George are going to see Marcia and George at Work. That much might be enough. DC: 30 Rolled: D100 => 57

George was grumpy, but that was just because George was being disturbed. "Alright George, I want to see the progress, I'm pulling producer rank on you."

It was a jab, a joke but one that George did not appreciate. "You know, you can try to edit it?" George shot back.

Oh, he was frustrated. "Something wrong?" You asked.

Marcia patted George's back and he settled. "Slower than we thought. We're slowly integrating the battle reel by reel, but ILM has been… well they are doing some more things that George does not approve of?"

"Do I need to get involved?" You asked.

"No no, they are doing better than I thought," George said. "I like every bit of it, but there is just… too much."

You looked at them both. "Has George finally accepted that we need this movie snappy?"

That earned a look from Marcia. "I need you to pull rank. Gary already said he needs to shorten the movie, but we need you to say that too."

Oh no. "George, we've already talked about it, you'll get your director cut, but we're on a deadline here, and Mikes already said we can't go over"

"I know what Mike said, and what Gary said, and I know we're not going to lose everything, I'm just… losing focus."

You smiled. "This is going to be the greatest film ever George, you just need to realize that… and do the best job that you two both can. And that means just accepting that for this run, it won't have everything."

George sighed. "You're the third person who's told me that…" He sighed. "Alright Marcia, looks like you win the bet."

You saw her kiss George. "Told you he'd see my way." She smiled.

Reward: George is working on Two cuts, the theatrical cut that will be done in a few months, and his own personal director's cut.

Maybe it will be ready soon.

Huh… Fucking Disney, having to use American animation… wait what film did they release, oh a rerelease of the classics.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Concert of Queen: So wait… Queen has a concert in the LA Area? And no one told you!? Those fools at the ticket office will pay, you need tickets dammit! DC: 20 Rolled:D100 => 86

To think you almost missed this concert, but honestly, you were just happy to get tickets and somehow managed to Drag Carrie away from her Typewriter to listen to it.

And you were not disappointed as Freddie and Co walked up onto the stage, and just decided to get it going.

You enjoyed Hammed to Fall because it just rocked. And you hoped some of their older stuff would get the love at this concert.

Yet the guys were playing much of their new work for A Night at the Opera, and honestly, you weren't that impressed by it. Sure it was great, they were consistent, but honestly, besides Bohemian Rhapsody, which was so long, that they only played it once… you just hoped there was more.

But two hours in, they were done. You had tried to get an encore going but most of the other concertgoers were not as electrified as you were.

Even Carrie, who was still energized was exhausted by the affair.

Then Brian May, the Guitar hero himself saw you in the front row with Carrie and smiled. "Oh, holy shit, that's Bruce O'Brian Freddie! He's in the front row." He spoke to his front man and the others looked at each other than at you. You were still there, despite others going away.

All four of the men just looked at you slackjawed, as if they hadn't expected you to show up or even appear.

"Hi." You waved, and the men realized that you were indeed there.
-------------------------------

"You're a fan?" Freddie asked. "Never thought you of all people would be a fan of our music?"

"It's anthems of awesomeness and tempo." You replied as you sat in the fours dressing room, and you were thankful they honored your request to not smoke, knowing you were going to be off to the Olympics soon.

"I didn't think you all would watch American television just for me?" You asked.

"Bloody hilarious you are." John Deacon replied, not looking up from the water in his hand trying his best to not be gazing at Carrie.

"Thanks, even though Alan's the real better one." You replied.

That earned a laugh. "So when did you all become fans?" You asked.

Freddie laughed. "You won't believe this, but it was showing during when we called a session early for my… friend." His pause was quiet almost silently. "And we watched it after we were done. Never heard myself laugh that hard in years. Got someone who tapes all the episodes to copy them, and I was able to watch them all at home."

"That's nice."

"Gonna see you again?" Roger asked as he sighed. "On the show that is?"

"My contract didn't get extended, and I wasn't able to renegotiate because of the strike. So they let me go."

"Blasted shame." That was what they all said in some manner.

The conversation quickly turned to Carrie. "So, how's it living with ole Emerald Splash?" Roger asked. "A Knockout?"

Carrie blushed. "Every time."

That earned laughter from everyone with how quick-witted it was.

Reward: You have met Queen.

They all thoroughly enjoy that you like their music, as well as your performances.

They are really excited to see what is coming next.
---------------------------------------------------
-[X]Patriotic Pants: You are going to see if you can't get some new Boxing shorts… and see if Team USA will let you give them. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 86

Was it over the top?

Yes.

Was it theatrical?

Yes.

Was it unnecessary?

You didn't think so. And neither did the lads at Team USA in the end.

They loved it.

Reward: All Boxers are wearing Red white and Blue shorts.

You all knew what you were fighting for.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Olympics with Bruce O'Brian: You are going to finish this story of Olympic might… with the main event. You. As well as take over and do everything you want. DC: 10 Rolled:D100 + 10 => 110
-[X]Workout: A Healthy Mind and a Healthy Body are Key to having a good life, and you have been slacking as of late. Time to hit the workout and discipline, and perhaps, see things differently. DC: 30 Reward: You work out and feel better.
--[X] Train in Boxing. Try to integrate it with the documentary, give America a good show and share with them your passion for the sport. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 129

To say that you knocked it out of the park was more the fact that Team USA was just letting you do whatever the hell you wanted.

And honestly, that made everything better.

And you managed to reshoot other Olympics and interviews in less than a week because you were able to get them all to LA just to talk to them.

To get the questions that should have been asked when this first began.

And then you decided to use a little trick that Sly did.

A Small montage, of training.

Going through every sport, and ending itself on the US Flag…

And Team USA.

With all athletes saying their names, with Team USA at the end.

And dammit, you were going to love it.

Film: Killer Queen Quality:D100 + 20 => 106

Taking the Name from a Queen Song, Carrie just said one thing when she was writing it.

"Making something My Mom can rock the world with"

And really, you think she did more than anything to kick it into high gear.
------------------------------------------------------------
Movie Title: Killer Queen
Genre: Adventure/Drama
Format: Film
Details:

A Struggling mother, Mary Sue, is trying to raise her daughter, Juliet, in the City of LA, but is struggling to make ends meet due to her divorce.

This has caused her to go out in the dead of night, to work as a secretary at one of the film companies, a fictional Universal called World Wide Entertainment.

Soon as she works, she is swept into Hollywood, as she looks like a starlet who is in the hospital.

Now she must juggle her newfound responsibilities and the possibility to become a movie star.

But also needs to worry if that is what she wants, considering the drift that it leads from her family.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reward: The Film, Killer Queen is ready to produce.

Carrie wrote this movie for Debbie in particular and would be very upset if she did not get the starring role
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

--[X] Attempt to purchase Iron Lung script from Cat. Offer $50,000 plus a guaranteed 4% of the film's gross earnings. Rolled:D100 => 1

"Wait you sold it?"

"I did Bruce, I sold it months ago when I was going through a slump with one of my books. You need to understand that I love you, but I have a life too Bruce, and you…" She sighed. "I'm sorry."

"I just wanted to help you." You whispered over the speaker.

"I know, but that's the thing, I can help myself just fine Bruce. Besides, I honestly think that in a few years, it will get remade. So I'm not worried about it."

"I hate Hollywood, and I like that, you're doing something about that shit hole."

Critical Failure!:

Cat sold the Script already to feed her family, and it's even already in production.

But something tells you that there is a chance to get the film later.

AN: enjoy.

There doing that old trick where they open up the Disney Vault to mess with the competition aren't they?

Damn it! I knew we should've gotten that script sooner... oh well, thme's the breaks.

Now, I was thinking that we could try and get the distribution rights for Monthy Python and the Holy Grail. I mean, Bruce was in England while it was being premiered, so he might have seen it. What do you guys think?
it will be rerolled, with an additional +60.

So it will be, most likely, much better.
Cool, so when does the reroll happen?

Guys, I've just realized that since Warner is going dowen, and we've already talked about getting the rights for THX, Dirty Harry and the Looney Toons (along with animators and all who work there to finally start with our Animation Studio), that we also can do the films that Warner won't be doing as they will be goinf down.

From what I've seen, they were planning for a 1977 release of the animated Hobbit movie. If we get the rights we could do a live action version, a two parter this time (mostly because I liked the First hobbit film and with some modifications it coauld be amde to work).

Aside from that, there is also Mad Max and The Shining (if we can get Kubrick on our side).

What do you think?

Aside from that, there is also Mad Max and The Shining (if we can get Kubrick on our side).
Kubrick works for Universal.

He has a 100 million dollar budget for his napoleon film.

There is a possibility he won't work for anyone else if he's going to be able to get that kind of money for his films.

And is Universal is smart.

Man that was a hell of a good turn. Only shame is that we were unable to get Iron Lung, but at the very least Cat was able to make some money off of it and her and her family aren't suffering or in bad shape. Unfortunately without ILM at the helm it's just going to be B-movie shlock with at best a cult following and then we'll have to wait a long while for a remake. @Magoose How successful has Cat been in her career and what does her husband do?

-[X]Post Production (Saved by the Edit): You and George are going to see Marcia and George at Work. That much might be enough. DC: 30 Rolled: D100 => 57

While I wish one of those crit successes could have gone to editing, a 57 is a decent result and I'm just happy that everything is going roughly to plan and George is able to get his Director's Cut for Star Wars. I'm sure Mike was pretty happy that he had another version of Star Wars to release in theaters and dominate VHS sales.

Darn Disney, hopefully soon we'll be able to get Dreamworks up and running and smoke them in animation. Hopefully this doesn't mess up Lupin III's profits too badly, also Magoose the distribution should have a +10 because we got a permanent bonus from Lady Snowblood.

You have no idea how much of a smile I had on my face from seeing this result. Nice wholesomeness and some epic fun with some of the greatest legends in rock and roll. Hope we make a difference for Freddie as best as we can and it's so cool to be good friends with them. Really hyped to all future selections of famous fans to see all the connections we can make. Damn, we've always been pretty dominant when it comes to sports and training and here Bruce got a 99 training and nat 100 on the doc, perfect prep for the Olympics. I really hope aside from any fame from our documentary and the effect it has on our film career, that all the Team USA athletes watching will get that extra step inspired to go the distance and perform at their peak, including us so we can absolutely dominate Light Heavyweight. So hyped!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reward: The Film, Killer Queen is ready to produce.

Carrie wrote this movie for Debbie in particular and would be very upset if she did not get the starring role.

You know, I actually really love it. Gives me very similar vibes to Some Nights and seems like it's the perfect film for Debbie to make her comeback as a creative masterpiece where she can really show her acting talents at their best as well as get outside of her comfort zone by being a dramatic actor instead of singing. Also I don't know if this was intentional at all Magoose, but it seems like the stars are perfectly aligned for Killer Queen thematically. Carrie's first film was a critique and dissection of the music industry, here she has a critique and dissection of the film industry. Debbie's great film debut was Singing in the Rain, a lighthearted period piece covering Hollywood's transition from silent films to talkies; and her grand return is a serious drama and satire on Hollywood's contemporary switch from art-dominated New Hollywood to commercial-obsessed Blockbuster Hollywood. To quote George:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxU2eqZtYmc

Also two funny things. One NotUniversal can be translated as WWE, so Vince McMahon is getting chills right now. Also I can very much see in the 2010's the film becomes a meme where after Diamond is Unbreakable, the JoJo fandom makes a bunch of meme videos where Kira Yoshikage and Killer Queen are in the movie or Mary Sue interacts with the JoJo cast, thus we have created our first JoJo reference years before Araki has even written Phantom Pain, lmao.

Why is Debbie's character called Mary Sue tho? Is Carrie unaware of the fanfic trope or is it intentional?

Right so here's I guess our next trilogy of films. First we work on Five Dates as our next film, have that out of the way before the Olympics and both Bruce and Carrie get a guaranteed post-Star Wars film. After the Olympics, Bruce does Kung Fu Kid and makes his debut as a leading man and action star. Then after that we produce and direct Killer Queen to give Debbie her dream debut. Since this is so important to Carrie and Debbie, I'm not willing to let anyone else touch it and want Bruce to have hands-on involvement. Hopefully Debbie understands the need for Bruce to wait and his other priorities.

Damn it! I knew we should've gotten that script sooner... oh well, thme's the breaks.

Now, I was thinking that we could try and get the distribution rights for Monthy Python and the Holy Grail. I mean, Bruce was in England while it was being premiered, so he might have seen it. What do you guys think?

Eh I don't think timing was the issue, but the shitty nat 1. Had it been anything else Magoose would probably have had us purchase it, but the Nat 1 meant disaster struck.

As for Holy Grail, I'm pretty sure it actually saw a legit US release but barely anyone went due to British humor and lack of marketing. @Magoose Did the film see a widespread US release?

Attempt to purchase Iron Lung script from Cat. Offer $50,000 plus a guaranteed 4% of the film's gross earnings. Rolled:D100 => 1
Damn, okay, what other horror movie do we have that we can get ready for Halloween release next year? Carrie is for this year, but do we look a bit thin on the ground for horror pitches, I think we only have four, and Iron Lung was our best.

Are there any for sale possibly right now?

There's my Slender Man Pitch. I had been thinking on remaking it and adding a bit more to it though, so I don't know if said version will be ready on time.

I'm not sure if Solomon Kane counts, but it will have fighting against Supernatural beings. You also wrote a script that could work, right?

It could yeah, Deliver us to Evil may work. Slender Man is a good shout as well. I seem to also recall a pitch about a werewolf attacking a diner, Moonlight Diner I think? So we could try and use that one too, it's somewhat effects heavy so ILM could stretch their legs a bit with it

Guys, I've just realized that since Warner is going dowen, and we've already talked about getting the rights for THX, Dirty Harry and the Looney Toons (along with animators and all who work there to finally start with our Animation Studio), that we also can do the films that Warner won't be doing as they will be goinf down.
All the yes, plus DC. There's a lot of opportunity there, not to mention Bugs Bunny is an Honorary Master Sergeant in the USMC so there's some fun to be had there too.

There is a possibility he won't work for anyone else if he's going to be able to get that kind of money for his films.
...you know, Stephen King despised Kubrik's take on The Shining, so depending on how this plays out we can further spite Universal by getting King on our side. All his books stack up to 8ft tall, so it'd be pretty fun to tackle the Dark Tower series or even IT...though we need to get him off the cocaine for the amount of bullshit he wrote between the lines.

Also yes to Mad Max. Think there's a lot of things we can do with that franchise, though I'm mostly thinking arcade racing games for the moment, get one installed in the office that George has the High Score on.

How successful has Cat been in her career and what does her husband do?
I think I said that Cat was moderately successful with her fantasy book series and is a decently successful screen writer in the Irish and British film industry.

And her husband is in construction.
While I wish one of those crit successes could have gone to editing, a 57 is a decent result and I'm just happy that everything is going roughly to plan and George is able to get his Director's Cut for Star Wars. Well at least George and Marcia have their priorities straight. Mostly.
Darn Disney, hopefully soon we'll be able to get Dreamworks up and running and smoke them in animation. Hopefully this doesn't mess up Lupin III's profits too badly, also Magoose the distribution should have a +10 because we got a permanent bonus from Lady Snowblood.
I forgor.
Also will Carrie make that co-op song with Queen soon?
That will depend on what Queen wants to do.
Wow, love that a simple comment from myself was able to do something huge and now all of Team USA is wearing Apollo Creed's Pants, must bring a big smile to Farah and Carl Weathers. Yep.

Oh hell yes.

Well it's not a critique of the film industry, but of certain studios that shall not be named.
. Debbie's great film debut was Singing in the Rain, a lighthearted period piece covering Hollywood's transition from silent films to talkies; and her grand return is a serious drama and satire on Hollywood's contemporary switch from art-dominated New Hollywood to commercial-obsessed Blockbuster
Oh yeah...

Also, the Dramatic shift from art to blockbuster won't really happen until...

A certain film that shall not be named decides to dethrone everyone.
One NotUniversal can be translated as WWE, so Vince McMahon is getting chills right now.
Hey, I just found it funny.
Yep... And I love it.
Why is Debbie's character called Mary Sue tho? Is Carrie unaware of the fanfic trope or is it intentional?
The two biggest birth names in the 60's were Mary, and Susan.

Mary Sue.
Since this is so important to Carrie and Debbie, I'm not willing to let anyone else touch it and want Bruce to have hands-on involvement. Hopefully Debbie understands the need for Bruce to wait and his other priorities.
I think that Debbie won't be really doing anything that much lately... save for managing her fiances well, and... being a collector.
Eh I don't think timing was the issue, but the shitty nat 1. Had it been anything else Magoose would probably have had us purchase it, but the Nat 1 meant disaster struck.
Yep.

Hey Cat has a family to feed.
As for Holy Grail, I'm pretty sure it actually saw a legit US release but barely anyone went due to British humor and lack of marketing. @Magoose Did the film see a widespread US release?
Yes it did.
...you know, Stephen King despised Kubrik's take on The Shining, so depending on how this plays out we can further spite Universal by getting King on our side. All his books stack up to 8ft tall, so it'd be pretty fun to tackle the Dark Tower series or even IT...though we need to get him off the cocaine for the amount of bullshit he wrote between the lines.
Stephan King isn't super successful yet though...

And honestly, why would you not think Universal wouldn't start a bidding war for his books the moment he publishes them?

Not to mention that for all f Stephen King's talent as an author, it not always translate well to adapting in the big (or even little) screen. I'm reminded on how after expressing his dissatisfaction with Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining, he decided to do another one, with the only caveat being "Make it as faithfully close to my book".

They did, the entire thing was just laughable; it had none of the tension, the clasutrophobic feeling, etc. The terror just didn't land at all.

I'm a Stephen King's fan, and even I can understand that his talent lies in writing, not in films. And even then it sometimes he flops.

Frankly, I think we should try to get the rights for It when the book comes out. Perhaps Christine as well, I've heard that the movies was called the "Dark side of American Graffiti", so if anything we need to make it.

"So… Disney Rereleased a film. Just to fuck with us?" You stated calmly, despite the anger going far into your heart.

"Japan loves Disney. And no offense. We were not going to win that battle. Not yet at least." Mike replied. "But we made some profit, and that can be turned into goodwill."

"Like what?" You asked.

"When I was in Japan, met an animator while I was there that really hated you, called you a self-righteous imperialist hypocrite who doesn't know art, is a shitty actor who is more interested in money and his own personal glory, than he is about actually building a positive legacy."

"And?" You asked.

"Honesty, considering how there are people in that country that will worship the ground you walk on like you were the emperor himself… Well… It was a breath of fresh air. Did you know that there are multiple job offers from Toho? They really wanna put you on TV there."

"Put that on my desk and I'll look at it." That made you smile. "Way to see the bright side in life. You get his name?"

"Not a first name, just his last name. Miyazaki." He replied. "Just an animator. Tapping him in for some kind of directing job there."

"Well, keep me posted."

Reward: Despite iffy performance from the onset, and Disney doing some shifty shit, it made some money.

Not enough to make Toho confident, but, they are a little worried about if the Market is shifting again.

Japan's Movie and TV Studios are trying to hire you for their projects.

You have learned that some animator named Hayao Myazaki genuinely hates you for some reason.

Oh well his loss.

...Miyazaki hates us? Oh that's rich! Considering the treatment of his workers and animators in his company he actually calls us the Imperialist Hypocrite?! Talk about the pot and the fucking kettle!

...Still, he is a good animator, we should try and keep in contact with him if he needs a distributor.

Here is the thing... We're everything he thinks he is, in his egotistical mind, and he can't stand it. :V

Take that as what you will.

But in all honesty, there is a truly brilliant bit of irony, that I love to sprinkle in on occasion. And hey, Toho still loves Lucasfilms... so its not like his opinion matters.

Eventually...

If he decides to not be an asshole..

But knowing Miyazaki... I'll give it a 50/50 chance.

Maybe he'll think differently once we release Star Wars and Rocky.
