Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

[]A One in a Million Shot (Massivly Increase the Audience and Critic Roll)
[]George has an idea (Autopass The Battle Action, and have all battles take one month less then normal)

Gonna be great to have Rocky be as much of a classic as OTL, and I am very super tempted to do the other Star Wars actions, but I made the Omake with the explicit intention of helping the battles for George since it seemed to be really important to him and battles are one of my favorite parts of Star Wars. Hopefully we get a really good roll on the trailer and Marcia continues to work her magic.

Should I show you the rolls for Warner?

Yes, yes I think I will, let me look through my notes because oh boy!
D100 => 20 #Warner bros 1973
D100 => 6 #Warner bros 1974
D100 => 2 #Warner bros 1975

They are fucked.

Also, this is before the next one adding in the fact they and the studios lost the strike. :V

That moment when the Quest becomes a David Zaslav Isekai where he got to become the head of Warner Bros 50 years early and somehow fuck them up more than OTL...

Yeah, barring a nat 100 miracle and something to be on the same level as Star Wars, Warner is fucked and I can't see them living past 78 or 79. Once Star Wars and our other greats come and turn their films into flops just by sheer lack of disinterest and the theaters stuffing all of their rooms with Star Wars, Warner Bros is gonna die. Which is gonna be HUGE butterflies for movies and culture in general going forward!

Okay here's my priority list of purchases from Warner Bros:
  1. THX-1138
  2. Looney Tunees
  3. DC Comics
  4. Tom and Jerry
  5. Dirty Harry
  6. King Kong
You are correct, but there is a real possibility of them surviving, due to three simple things:

1. The content they put out.
2. Warner getting fucked in ways that may protect them.
3. Having a large library of content they can use.

But you are correct, Movie and TV animation is certainly in its dark ages right now. and it needs a lot of money to save.

I really hope we can buy Hanna-Barbera and give its IPs the proper love they deserve instead of just being Scooby-Doo cameos or props in said movies to make some sort of Warner Bros Cinematic Multiverse which just ends up flopping cause they focus on that over the story. I grew up on Hanna-Barbera through Boomerang and while their shows may not be on the same level of writing and animation as a lot of today's shows, they do have lots of wit are fun and generally have a good amount of heart that leaves you with warm fuzzy feelings. If their IPs were given the same level of love and creativity as today's animation then I think they can really go far, even the Scooby Doo clones could do really well if given a chance to stand on their own and really explore their originality as much as possible.

Ouch on Warner bros guess we will have to buy them I see and why Chris the trailer was important

Because the Battles has the highest known DC out of all of them with a 40, for all I know the Trailer could have a 0 or 10 DC and we got Marcia's talent working on that and George getting a boost from last turn so I'm placing faith in that they can get something good out. If we fail that action, we got at least one more turn left to pump out a trailer and I've got a concept for an Omake dealing with that to pump out to give it a boost if that is the case. Plus I did make the Omake to explicitly focus on Marcia and George's creative differences and the conflict over the Battles. Would feel kind of wrong if I didn't chose that as my goal.

That moment when the Quest becomes a David Zaslav Isekai where he got to become the head of Warner Bros 50 years early and somehow fuck them up more than OTL...
No it's more like they absolutely shit the bed with several critical figures around Hollywood, including but not limited to:

John Wayne
Stan Lee and Marvel Comic
Debbie Reynolds
Brian Depalma
Francis Ford Coppola
Clint Eastwood (Who basically is boycotting Josey Wales, even though he basically directed and starred in it, because he hates them so much for what they did to him and the crew)
Roman Polanski
The Writers Guild of America
And many, many others. :V
One I am thrilled to explore.

Unless they be fucking stupid and boring and roll a nat 100.

A Fully Armed And Operational ILM... and Other O'Brian W's Turn 40 Results (October 1975-November 1975)
-[X]Post Production (The Battles That George Planned): "George… How Many Battles did you have ILM create?" DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 24 (Autopass)

You looked at what George planned, and only said one thing.

"George… Are you trying to recreate famous World War 2 battles with this film?"

George only looked back at you with a smile. "Is that a bad thing?"

(Continued in: The Battles of Star Wars)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Trailer: You hope that George would be willing to make a trailer so that you can keep Mike's promise. DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 71

You looked at the Trailer, and as the reel stopped… You just looked at George.

"George, That was so cool."

"I know, we managed to finish the lightsaber effects last night, that was great!" George was gushing over the work he and Marcia did. "Marcia was the one who discovered one of the flickerings of the film and decided to use it to make the effect look more fluid."

"And it just so happened to save us time and the MAgicians from having to go over each frame?"

"I mean, we run a business after all," George replied. "But seriously, it's great… But the problem is, we don't have any more spaceship shots than what we already have."

Then you smiled. "Oh, that is going to be great."

Reward: The Trailer is completed. While it's not the best trailer, due to the lack of spaceship shots and the simple fact none of the battles are ready… it will be enough.

See a considerable increase in Star Wars Hype in December.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X]Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx Rolled:D100 => 6

"Mike… what did you do?"

Mike Eisner was not happy to see you and George. "I had to make a deal with one of our competitors."

"Without our knowledge?" You asked. "Mike we hired you to"

"I didn't want a damn lawsuit on our hands!" Mike shouted as he pulled out several papers. "We don't own the rights to the film. At least not fully."

"What, how! We have all the paperwork and Toho's contracts are rock solid?" George was perplexed.

"That's what I thought, until I learned that it seems, that there was a clause. One that didn't get revealed until two days ago, by our lawyers."

He pulled out and underlined it. "It doesn't exist for any of the other films, except this one, I don't know how we missed it, they thought it was a translation error." Mike then sighed. "Toho and some other company in Japan still own it, and if we tried to distribute it, we would make nothing."

Both you and George traded a glance. "So we're-"

"I'm leaving for Tokyo on the next flight tomorrow." He said. "Get this all cleared up." He then smiled. "Don't burn the place down while I'm gone."

Failure. Mike is going to be out of the country dealing with this, and you will suffer a penalty for distributing films until he returns.
--------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson: Mike had an idea, put you on a late night TV show and give an interview. You don't see why not? DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 36

You got cold feet at the last minute, and everyone could understand.

And even Johnny said that he had planned for it.

Failure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]Simple Pleasures: You and Carrie are wondering about some of the things you like. Rather, the things you want to do in the future? DC:50 Rolled:D100 + 30 => 130

You and Carried looked at the things you had, before she stopped you. "Bruce can we talk."

(Continued in: Simple and Sweet)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Olympiad: So Team USA wants to make you the face of the Team. Time to figure out what that means for you. DC: 10 Rolled:D100 => 90

You looked at the members of Team USA leadership and were quite confused, and perplexed at their very clear interest. In you that is. "Okay, we're at my house, and you are here. Can you tell me why?"

The Skipper of the Hockey Team John Mariucci, was the one who finally spoke. "To put it bluntly kid? You're the face of it all. Team USA is going to be ridding high, and well, get people to watch it."

"Yeah, but I'm just one of the boxers." You stated. "Not exactly the highlight of the event."

"Not unless we make it a spectacle of it." There was a sigh from one of the other media people there. "The country needs a win, and you're in the prime place to give us one."

"I can only win one medal." You stated. "Maybe two If I decide to also go heavyweight, but-"

You saw a smile on their faces before you saw another camera. "Are you going to be filming a documentary about it?"

"Yes."

"Why me, unless you're trying to-"

"Get a spotlight on everyone else Bruce." There was a great glow on everything.

"Goddammit." You swore. "I am going to be so overworked."

"Hey, look on the bright side Bruce, if you're the one hosting it, it will get butts in seats. And it will mean people will watch the games, and everyone else."

Reward: You have been press-ganged by Team USA to film a documentary series involving all the sports in the game, in small half-hour segments, as well as highlight several members of Team USA.

The idea is to use your star power and athleticism to show the world that Team USA will win it all when the time comes.

And also get lots of publicity for the team and inspire others.
---------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Legend of Clint Eastwood: Clint invited you to a party. This is going to be fun. DC: 20 Rolled:D100 => 100

To think everyone in Hollywood was here for this big announcement. "Thanks for letting me come, Clint, I'd think after all that's happened, and the lack of contact when I was in production overseas, we might have lost touch."

Clint smiled. "Oh, I just think that the way the business works. We're always going to see each other when we have time. Plus, I think you would have enjoyed being away, it would make what's going to happen next much better."

"Oh, Clint, you've only just gotten back from shooting, what are you planning to do?"

Clint smiled. "Oh, you know, following you're example."

"Should I be worried?" You asked. "My example is never the most subtle."

Clint smiled even more at that. "Well then… might as well make do."

He then began to speak. "You know, everyone knows I love Westerns, I love how much that it reaches back into the distant past, where we find ourselves wondering what we could do, and what we can do."

"I think the reason I love them is because it offers us a way to get the freedom that we feel like we've lost in our modern world. And entertain us in ways of fantasy, and even reality."

"I say this because I have a picture coming up, one that I loved making, with all my goodness. And I think… frankly, I would love to see it.

But I can't, not anymore. See, during the shooting, I was told by many people who I worked for at the time, that I could not do it anymore. They saw the Westen as a relic of a bygone age, and one that should be shelved because anyone who wanted to watch it was old and dead, and replaced by something for TV. Or irrelevant in our modern world.

So they shelved it. Put the finished film on a rack in their archive… and just let it sit. Forgotten, as they want all the good westerns to go.

I don't believe that. I believe people should see it. But not from Warner, who decided that they wanted to shelve it. I'm asking for you're helping me, to buy it off them, let the world see it for what it is."
----------------------
Well… that happened.

Reward: The Outlaw Josey Wales rights, have been bought in Full, By Clint Eastwood, and several of his friends. They are looking for a distributor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Workout: A Healthy Mind and a Healthy Body are Key to having a good life, and you have been slacking as of late. Time to hit the workout and discipline, and perhaps, see things differently. DC: 30 Reward: You work out and feel better. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 122

Carrie:
D100 + 30 => 99

Muscle Beach was someplace you never really wanted to be. Really you didn't like it, because it was too hot, there were to many people, and some of the people working out are just… not that good.

It was all Carrie's idea really, said she wanted to hang out with some friends. And it led to this.

You looked at the weights and looked at Carrie. "This is too easy."

"Prove it." She boasted as she lifted a bar with over 40 pounds, and made a clean hold over her head, before setting it down.

Oh, it was a challenge now?

You looked at the bar and looked at the weight. "Can I add more?"

Some of the guys looked confused before you added 100 more pounds. Then to your body weight.

You then lifted it cleanly up, held it over your head, and yawned, before gently setting it down. "Carrie, what are you looking at?"

Carrie was embarrassed, with crimson on her cheeks but instead, she said. "Hold that pose."

You did, and you saw her friends taking pictures. "Oh come on."

You finally noticed that during the lift, your shirt tore in half, leaving you without one, as it was now in tatters.

Reward: You and Carrie have a pleasant experience together, though you have learned to not take a T-shirt like that for granted… because damn if lifting weights can do that, you're worried about it.

Also, you lifted lots of heavyweights.

Pictures of you shirtless have disseminated across Hollywood, and you have once again, attracted the attention of your rabid fangirls.

AN: I Weep!

Guys, I think we're missing on something here.

Warner owns DC, has done so since 1968.

We can buy DC...we can make DC movies...

WE CAN MAKE SUPERMAN!!!

And this me, a Marvel fan, saying i-!

Guys, we need to buy Marvel.

Another Common O'Brian W. Got everything we want, some very nice criticals, and are due some extreme Carrie fluff, all in all a great turn. Only shame is not going on Johnny Carson, hope that changes.

Boy am I glad that I decided to use my reward on the battles. Was heavily tempted to pursue the Trailer after Whenyou's comment, but I'm really glad I followed my gut and ILM is going to continue to be trailblazers. That 250 SFX roll needs to be shown in its full glory for the space battles. Seems like Battle of Yavin is less a dog fight and more a Battle of Midway and I'm all for it.

-[X]The Trailer: You hope that George would be willing to make a trailer so that you can keep Mike's promise. DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 71

Hmm...Shame we can't get a crit success like the others, but overall this is a pretty great outcome and with what I'm suspecting to be insanely high reception bonuses, the trailer is going to be more like a nice layer of icing on a delicious cake. Considering the roll, my guess is the trailer is going to be basically OTL's but with Bruce and Toshiro:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g3_CFmnU7k

Doesn't really hold up a candle compared to today's style of trailers and the editing can be really messy, but it's got some charm and is a little cool for a 70's viewer and I'm hoping that Marcia is able to make it cleaner and if it was good enough to make Star Wars a hit OTL then it's good enough for here. One addition I'm really hoping is a small gag at the end of the trailer where it's the scene where Han goes, "You think a girl like her and a guy like me?" and then Luke strongly responds No. Pretty funny meta humor and it will get people hyped on seeing Bruce and Carrie together on screen for the first time. Although in saying that I can only imagine O'Brian fans losing their minds when they see Leia give Luke a peck on the check, screaming for her to be with Han.

-[X]The Olympiad: So Team USA wants to make you the face of the Team. Time to figure out what that means for you. DC: 10 Rolled:D100 => 90

Honestly this alone is just as good as an opportunity as winning a gold medal. Perfect way to further our directing and expand our fame by getting America to fall in love with us as their cinnamon roll and further our proud patriotic boy scout image. It's going to be really important considering these Olympics are going to take place on the Bicentennial, and not only will it give a boost to Star Wars and MASH, it's also going to give a critical boost to Rocky. At this rate we'll probably be the first person to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Reagan.

The only thing who loves Carrie more than Bruce is Magoose Dice, got it down bad with a severe case of Squirrels In My Pants, lol. The one time Magoose raises the DC above a 0 and he gets a nat 100 the turn after Carrie is okay with having kids. Simply beautiful Also, O'BRIAN GOSLINGS ARC!

Reward: The Outlaw Josey Wales rights, have been bought in Full, By Clint Eastwood, and several of his friends. They are looking for a distributor.

POG! Josey Wales would be a great release and Lucasfilms' first strong test run for global distribution. A very welcome addition to the catalog, hope we can get the rights with no problem. And the boys and girls in marketing will finally have something to do instead of collecting dust and playing sudoku, lol.

But yeah, Warner Bros is super mega fucked at this point. They don't have Josey Wales, Warner Bros is preventing their movies from getting any customers, and Clint Eastwood is never coming back to do another film and this probably turned away a lot of potential stars when their whole business strategy at this point is to make films around A-Listers. I have to wonder if they even made The Exorcist, at this point they got a terminal disease and it's just a question of when.

Magoose Dice is not only a Carrie Simp, but it's also horny as hell, LMAO. Well if there's one thing Carrie can say about her marriage, it's that it's never lacking in spice and passion.

Guys, I think we're missing on something here.

Even better, we buy both and do a Crisis on Infinite Earths that merges the two franchises together into one world.

not gonna lie the official trailer under this made me gag, Lucas really was setting them up as a love interest and then "forgot" about it and made them siblings 1:08-1:11🤮 1:57 😱 it's a focus in the TRAILER! the sick freak I'm only joking like 20% with this, bruh If I was old enough to have watched return of the jedi in theaters I would have been so betrayed

1976 is gonna be a massive year for Bruce.

First he's going to be the voice and narrator of the US governments documentary on their Olympics team. And the government is pushing it hard because they need a win after Vietnam. And Bruce is also going to be the main focus of at least one episode.

Secondly he's going to have a chance to get the Light Heavyweight Gold medal, and maybe even the Heavyweight Gold Medal in boxing, which I think would be a first in Olympics history.

Thirdly he might get a chance at a title shot. John Conteh is the champion now. A British boxer, so that, and Conteh's already strong reputation, and the attention Bruce has had since his last championship bout might bring in a lot of viewers if he gets that chance. And being world champion itself would be huge.

And finally, if we manage to stick to schedule, we'll release A New Hope in December of 1976. Where it'll have the double boosted reception due to the writers and actors strike, possibly an extra boost due to being released during the busy Christmas cinema season and of course it being Star Wars…

Basically the year after Bruce leaves MASH he might get catapulted to being an A list name before Star Wars even comes out due to his sports alone.

Considering Bruce actually hasn't had a leading role in any films yet, and has spent most of his time on TV. That's pretty huge, going from a B lister to an A lister in sports and cinema.

My main concern is time. As after the Olympics, and if that title shot happens, then he's going to have to fit both of those around shooting Kung Fu Kid, or Conan, or Soloman Kane, or Olympics 1904 or whatever movie we decide to make for a 1977 release.

Just to paint this a little clearer in my head, you're saying that instead of a pure, steady beam, i canon it's now more of a pulsating, staticy effect? Like say, akin to Kylo Ren's?

We can buy DC...we can make DC movies...

WE CAN MAKE SUPERMAN!!!
If we do, nothing live action until the 2000s [mostly so Bruce can focus on other projects], and we can have more fun with the animated side of things...actually make DC movies have anime-inspired fight scenes.
Even better, we buy both and do a Crisis on Infinite Earths that merges the two franchises together into one world.
Pretty sure our detractors would have an easy time of slapping us with the anti-trust laws for creating a monopoly...even if that would be fun.

Guys, we need to buy Marvel.
Talking of superheroes, there's a chance we could partner with Marvel and launch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers a good 13 years earlier... and in the Marvel universe!
  • 1975
    • The first Sentai, Himitsu Sentai Gorenger is released to a surprising popularity.
    • Haim Saban leaves Israel for France to become a record producer
  • 1977
  • 1978
    • Toei & Marvel sorted a licensing agreement that for the next few years they could adapt each other's properties in any way they wanted.
    • Marvel begins work on the "Shogun Warriors" comic and toyline, using the products of Bandai Popy.
    • Toei adapts Spider-Man to television and finds great success, and inspires them to use giant robots in future superhero series.
    • Toei begins planning a Captain America show under the working title "Captain Japan".
  • 1979
    • Toei releases Battle Fever J, the result of the Captain Japan project. Plans were to have Cap team up with a list of rotating heroes from different nations, but this was scrapped in favour of a singular team, returning Toei to its Sentai roots. The series had its own giant robot thanks to the success the idea had on Spider-Man.
  • 1980
    • Saban meets Shuki Levy at a party. Haim suggests they go into business, where Levy would compose and he would focus on the business side.
  • 1981
    • Toei releases its next Sentai, Sun Vulcan.
    • Stan Lee pitches the idea of splicing Sun Vulcan fights into a new show to adapt it to a Western market. He never found a buyer for this idea.
  • 1984
    • Margaret Loesch joins Marvel.
    • It is around this time the Toei-Marvel agreement ends. Marvel does not renew their agreement with Toei and loses the rights to the Sentai series.
    • Haim Saban, on a business trip to Japan, catches the show Choudenshi Bioman and becomes interested in adapting it for Western audiences.
    • Saban Productions purchase the rights to the Toei Super Sentai series, grinding any plans Stan Lee had to a halt.
  • 1992
  • 1993
    • Margaret's bosses at Fox ask that 'Power Rangers' not be broadcast, thinking it would be a flop.
    • Haim Saban pleads with Loesch to keep the show on the air. After already producing the toys for the show, if he can't sell those then he will be in a lot of legal trouble. Margaret allows the show to be broadcast but at a less popular hour.
    • Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is shown to the world and the rest is history.

So the reason Stan Lee never made his Sun Vulcan adaption was because no company would pick it up. If he comes to us, all we really need is to find a network that'll broadcast it, or use our own if we have one in the future.

But hell, it'd be hilarious if we got ahead of Marvel and made this the first PR show.

btw something really interesting I want to mention is that the term "Zord" derives from the "saur" in "dinosaur", so if we don't start PR in Zyuranger- chances are the Mechas will go by something else.

I'm afraid there will be some anti-sole ownership of the two biggest comic companies ever. We might get one for movie rights but not both.
