Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

"Yes, it appears so…" George then smiled. "Sony, or some of their possibly Yakuza-backed board members, wanted to hold it for ransom."

"And I thought me nearly getting kidnapped by the Triads and being rescued by Jackie Chan was implausible," Mike said. "Alright, so… what now."

"Turn on the news." George said.

The TV flickered on. "And in investment news, several board members of Sony have been arrested for fraud, insider trading, and corporate espionage. As well as ties to organized crime."

"The Yamaguchi-gumi are pissed." George said. "And all because they wanted to get Star Wars money."

Mike then shook his head. "I'm going to get drunk, who's joining me?"

"I am going to my family so I can go lie down." You said.

George then smiled. "I hope this won't cause something crazy to happen in Japan."

You and Mike both facepalmed.

Reward: Fox settled out of court, but thanks to the Lawsuit, and other events happening beyond the scenes…

With the help of George, the FBI, and the Japanese National Police Agency, arrested several members of the Sony board who have connections to the Yakuza… and many Yakuza members were arrested.

Sony has suffered, not a fatal blow, but one that will take a decade to recover.
considering how much money Star Wars has made it makes sense someone would want a piece of it, this would fit perfectly in a Yakuza game
This Jack fellow sounds like such an absolute madlad that I can't help but respect him somewhat. Like, how many pies did this guy have his fingers in?
I sense a future movie/Tv series

George Vs Fox: D100 + 60 => 72 vs D100 => 99

The Unexpected Thing:D100 => 6
Reroll: D100 => 90

"The Yamaguchi-gumi are pissed." George said. "And all because they wanted to get Star Wars money."

Mike then shook his head. "I'm going to get drunk, who's joining me?"
Murdoch: "I want off this wild ride!"
FBI:"I got a proposal I think you would like."
he works for them as an assumed identity that was an empty shirt that existed on the books but did not exist.

Then he was told to steal from Fox, then turned coat to get more... and then borrowed star wars.

after that, Sony had a house of cards that he was happily willing to push down and arrest several dozen people.
So this whole thing just blew up on Sony's face because their yakuza contact was an undercover FBI agent angling for some really juicy information…

Defenitely going to boost their reputation while also being ripe for people to base spy thrillers on.

Ardmore Movie Pitch: The Vanishing
When I was looking for some more movies that we could have Ardmore do I stumbled upon this small little gem, and I could only think...it was alright. I mean, it was not "The Lighthouse" but I guess it did its job well enough. Personally, I think that, like with other works mentioned before, some small changes could have made it truly amazing rather than just "meh". One of the big mistakes in my opinion is that it tried to do so much with its genre; it's supposed to be a mystery, but it's also supposed to be a horror, a thriller, and a psychological movie. Now, you can make movies with all of those combined, but you need to pick the tone from one to be the main genre, not have it be all over the place.

Thus, this movie works better if you make it more psychological, as it manages to work with the three main characters better and explore their relationships and personalities, as well as the human condition, greed, suspicion, and distrust. It would have made for an amazing film had they gone with it like that.

Another problem is that it tries to excuse the main characters too much. Making one of them not be completely responsible because of mercury poisoning, having the other group attack first...there's too many events that just want to make the main characters be in the right in their actions, yet at the same time the characters don't fit the mold of innocent people either. I think the idea is sound, but the execution just doesn't work.

I've added some changes which, hopefully, can make the movie a bit better, though I'm not sure if it will work in this case. Nevertheless, I must at least try.

Thus, I give you:

Ardmore Movie Pitch:
The Vanishing

GENRE: Psychological/Mystery/Thriller

SUBGENRE: Suspense/Crime/Drama

FORMAT: Movie

Set Up: On an uninhabited island 20 miles from the rugged Scottish coast, three lighthouse keepers arrive for their 6-week shift. As Thomas, James and Donald settle into their normal quiet routine, something unexpected, potentially life-changing occurs - they stumble upon gold. Where did it come from? Who does it belong to? A boat appears in the distance that might hold the answer to these questions - What follows is a tense battle for survival, fed by isolation, paranoia and greed, leading three honest men down a path of destruction

Director: Frank Darabont
Composer: Pino Donaggio

- Have the movie be more psychological thriller and focus more on the everyday interactions, showing how the lightkeepers own personalities rub against each other, with the gold heightening the tension, stress and paranoia.

- Remove the Mercury poisoning. It was all the result of their paranoia and suspicion.

- Donald, aside from his own gripes, is also dealing with feelings of guilt for killing the man holding on to the gold. During the movie he begins justifying it to himself, trying to paint himself as being in the right.

- The arrival of the other crewmembers is the spark that lights the barrel, as it causes everything to finally burst out.

- Boor and Locke do not attack nor do they discover the truth about the gold. Both James and Donald think they do however, which heightens their feelings of paranoia and stress.

- Thomas shows all the signs that he is the one that would snap first in order to present a red herring to the audience. His actions however manage to keep the peace until both James and Donald decide to get rid of the other two.

- Thomas has been poisoned to keep him out of the way while they do the deed. However, he did not take the whole dosage so he was only sick while it happened instead of dying. This is foreshadowed, but it's not outright seen, in order to make it a surprise when it happens.

-James still ends up killing the childlike in the movie, though the child is not shown until the end. There is foreshadowing that there is someone else however, without it being said explicitly.
James Ducat: He is a married Lighthouse keepers who misses his family while working with both Thomas and Donald, the other lightkeepers. When the gold is discovered, he grows suspicious of both of them, thinking they are conspiring against him, and trying to conspire back. When the other sailors arrive looking for the gold, he accidentally kills the child they brought with them, growing more mentally unstable and ridden with guilt.

Played By: Brian Cox
Alternate: David Ashton

Thomas Marshall: He is an old lighthouse keeper who is still in mourning for the death of his wife and child. During the discovery of the gold in a chest, Thomas tries to keep it secret, but eventually buckles down under both James and Donald's insistence to know what it is. Afterwards, he suggests that they sneak it into the mainland it, lay low and go their separate way after a year has passed. The arrival of Locke and Boor, and their deaths soon brings more tension as Thomas tries to keep things the peace, even if he also grows more distrustful of James.

Played By: Patrick McGoohan
Alternate: Nicol Williamson

Donald McArthur: He is a young lighthouse keeper who is just recently learning the ropes of the trade under both James and Thomas. Donald is a self-centered young man who resents being under any type of authority. finds the chest with gold under a man who grabbed at him, but he then killed the man with a rock. After getting rid of the body and making the plans for the gold, he aids James in tricking and then killing both Boor and Locke when they remain in the lighthouse for the night.

Played By: Kenneth Branagh
Alternate: Alan Cumming
Boor: He is one of the crewmembers of the deceased man who was found by Donald. He and Locke arrive trying to find him and the gold, but were fooled into believing that none were there. Staying in the lighthouse for the night, he walks looking at it and interacting with the light keepers, unaware of how much this has increased their suspicion and paranoia.

Played By: Danny Webb

Locke: He is one of the crewmembers of the deceased man who was found by Donald. He manages to get the drop on Thomas by tricking him, and then he starts torturing for the information of where the gold is. He eventually is killed by Donald when the latter uses a woolding, which slowly asphyxiates him.

Played By: John Sessions
The Galley Hand: A child that works with Boor and Locke. He is killed by James by accident.

A.N.: I hope to try for this movie later on, but still in the 80s. Finding British actors is a freaking pain, especially when you try not to use the same ones over and over again. It's a bit of an odd film when we compare it to the other Ardmore pitches, but I think we should also give a little chance to other kind of films aside from adventure, action, Science Fiction or horror. Then again, we can always just try and produce other genres aside from our pitches. So it's all good.

So first off, some Mike support and have him take it easy so we don't lose our best president. For our TV film, we hire Irvin Kershner since he is the dude who made Empire OTL so it's only right he gets to work on Star Wars here. Ian Bryce is a blockbuster genius OTL and as such I trust him here.

See Last Summer Run with Ron's first film with Lucasfilms and another film in the Brandon lineup. Also hire a new producer and director.

Also take further initiative on the video game collapse and support Sierra On-Line's continued existence with the development of games for the console. I'm unsure if this was the best format or if there's a more effecient way, so if anyone has any better ideas I'm all ears.

In terms of personal actions, take the Monaco action now so that if we succeed, we help Grace and can have something nice with another branch of European royalty. @Magoose To confirm, we're bringing the family with us, not just abandoning them right?

Deal with that stupid Satanic panic. I'm really hoping that based off of the wording for Zade's reward, that we will get a boost in this action. If we fail and the Panic gets worse and we suffer, it should be remembered that we had like near a dozen opportunities to nip this in the bud, but all the Omake writers who had the chance refused to do so.

I absolutely refuse to send Mary to the space camp. Like I said before, it reeks of that earlier incident with the weirdo scientists and Mary should not be away from her family and attending a camp in Houston at the age of 4. We do stuff like this and Mary ends up as Sheldon Cooper instead of a functional adult. Instead, just keep Mary happy with friend hangouts.

We now start Sarah and Joseph's long awaited character arcs with us checking in on Sarah, likely to lead to either a masterpiece or some funny scribbles to show she has love, looking forward to the adorableness. Also some nice father son bonding with a Dodgers game, maybe get a glimpse into what kind of athlete Joseph wants to become.

Lastly, try to get a decent OTL show about a lottery onto LucasTV.

It would be bringing the family, and they would be doing something fun.

Approach Sierra On-Line with an investment offer of $50 million in exchange for producing games for the LucasArts console.

So, we have concrete plans for a console, or is this just spontaneous thing?

[X] Plan Goose Goes to Monaco

I keep on hoping for the chance to get the rights for more movies and books. THough we still need to contact others for more TV Shows for our network. Either way, this is still a good plan.

Though, @Kaiser Chris, the Star Wars film is a TV Movie?

Either way, can we add this to the movie in some way?:

I don't know of any plans to make a console, and if we are starting LucasArts in 1983, then we should either start making plans for it now.

@Magoose, since we've bought Sega, and should have the technology, can we begin plans to make our own console now, or do we need to wait until LucasArts is officially founded in 1983?

I am not sure honestly. Though, one thing we might want to consider trying in the video game space, is well...

The crux every game developer faces is the tyranny of the retailers that will only accept the risk of selling video games by in contract, shoving the risk onto the publisher. Which, means using the Doom tactic of releasing a demo people can download for free off the internet and have a way to contact the dev to get the full version should help in getting games out there and reducing the risk for game development. Though it'll not be simple to set things up so such a trick could be done on a console.

Honestly, all we know in quest about LucasArts is they have been quietly putting away for turns by this point.

Though, @Kaiser Chris, the Star Wars film is a TV Movie?

Yeah it's supposed to be a TV movie to debut on LucasTV. When I wrote Battle of the Koral Moons, my intention was to do something fun as a strong debut of Star Wars on TV and serve as promotion stuff to drive viewers to our eventual channel, and I can imagine a lot of new subscriptions just for the movie. Having Star Wars be on the small screen can draw in people for future stuff like Andor or the Mandalorian.

Don't know if it would work well as a full theatrical release. The large majority of the film is a space battle between the Rebels and Empire, as a way to give fans a pure space war movie.

So, we have concrete plans for a console, or is this just spontaneous thing?

We are currently developing a console for Lucasarts that is set to release in 1985. Last turn we bought Sega to help with development.

This is the 80s, there is no internet to download Doom. I'm sure on awareness and promotion, having it be distributed overall by Lucasfilms, and maybe have Bruce play a role in a promotional campaign, would generate enough interest from our millions of fans to give it a try, because if the Goose believes in it then it should be good.

Speaking of, I'm hoping that in the future we can do an ad campaign to help promote the USFL, get the ticket revenue the teams desperately needed and get lots of peopel tuning into LucasTV which should hopefully air the games.

😅 Fair. The closest way to try and replicate it without the Internet would basically be printing out a bunch of disks to hand out, which...

Simply wouldn't work that well, and come with both big costs and inefficiencies, making any attempts kinda pointless.

Nah man lego was able to give out free disk with Bionicles back in the day just do that and write if off as marketing costs besides the money is made in merchandising.

So idea for that spin off I've decided to give suggestions for standalone movies ideas inspired by the Bantam era mostly.
Book of boba fett but good(this would be fun).
Scoundrels adaptation(Han story basically ocean 11 with a Wookie). Its set in between movies if we want in the post endor period we could try fixing the Corellian trilogy.
Luke skywalkers and the Shadow of Mindor(its one of the classics of the eu!)
A story inspired by the the Eu's Black fleet crisis(Leia story).
X-wing movie, topgun in space need I say more, the franchise has 9 entries and a comic for inspiration.

Well @Kaiser Chris first of all, at this point in time Sierra specializes in Graphic/Conversational Adventures which doesn´t translate well to a gaming console, second $50 million to develop games is WAAAY too high "in exchange for producing games for the LucasArts console"...

For that price, I would rather buy them outright, or, alternatively, I would reduce the amount of money we are investing a lot ($5-$10 million would be more than enough) and I would keep them making adventure games for Apple (which is good because Bruce is the biggest stockholder)... As we can see with Gollum, Anthem, RedFall, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League... when the higher-ups force a videogame developer specialized in a certain genre to make a radically different style of game the results tend to be terrible...
