I mainly agree with what you said, but I hold the argents a bit higher since Silverblood will be a big part of us making it to Appraisal.

Also, the mystery box is mysterious, and we should make sure we have time to cultivate it in case it's good.

Two green stones means +50 dice per action(because we can't use 1 yellow stone), 6 normal + 6 qi cultivation.

Yeah, saving Sable Light until Appraisal seems like a no Brainer to me.

White Room means we don't really need the dice to make meridians happen for quite a few more rolls.

My impression was that people decided that it was probably going to be too difficult to get the thread to achieve without sacrificing things we didn't want to sacrifice.

Part of the problem is that it's difficult to get appraisal SLP working right since we need to get appraisal by week 49 at the latest, and then ensure that the next two weeks are clear of all distractions (which is often hard).

I still feel that the value of 1 auto has been underestimated by many people, but it's a reasonable argument either way.

It's worth noting that for most of our opponents in the prelims it will be 2 autos. That will go a long way toward making Diapason and Elegy hit every enemy instead of most.

We need to be careful to not discount the prelims as a done deal. All it would take is an unlucky team matchup and we'd be in serious trouble, even though team fighting is squarely our specialty.
 
I mean, it was possible a couple weeks ago when we broke through to green, but has steadily been decreasing in possibility since then, to the point now that we could get it if the week after next we decided to spend every single week cultivating spiritual as one of our actions. Then we might be able to get it, if we also cultivate the argent arts three times a week for three weeks, send all of our overflows to spiritual successes, and cultivate at least FVM and SCS towards FVM7 and SCS7 for the simple sake of getting Appraisal.

Right now we should have 222/1200 success towards appraisal. A generous estimate of successes from the Black Pool is 400 successes. Since the Black pool gives us 1/4 of successes from water/darkness arts towards spiritual that 400 spiritual successes would equate to 1,600 successes spent in our darkness or water arts. Of which there are
  1. FVM
  2. SCS
  3. AE
  4. FSS
  5. AC
So, those 1,600 successes would need to be split between those five arts to get to the 400 successes. 1,600/5 = 320.

We would need to spend 320 successes on each of those arts to reach 400 successes from Black Pool. The problem, as many may see, is that at least for FVM and SCS there are only 225/250, respectively, successes needed to reach the next level. About 95/70 successes short respectively. Which needs to be made up from the other arts: AE, FSS, AC. Unless we cultivate FVM and SCS just to get the successes towards the black pool. Or find other means of pumping up the spiritual successes.

The next easy way to get spiritual successes is through the Argent arts and the argent pill. Conveniently, we have three pills that give 1/3 of their successes towards spiritual. Meaning that we calculate the average successes an argent art will be getting, and that will be the successes granted by the pills after being used three times. It's late for me, so I'm not going to calculate it, but I'm guessing it's not going to be over 210 successes combined.

If we want to get to appraisal by week 49, then the numbers are simply not adding up unless we drop pretty much everything other than the arts that benefit appraisal, and even then I don't think it's likely. Especially if we go on missions, or deal with Yan Renshu. Unless we spend those stealth successes on spiritual, which is pretty low on the agenda compared to PLR or SCS.

Currently, it doesn't seem wise to go for Appraisal, at least unless the Moon Mission gives us some applicable pills. It would require us to compromise too many other things, possibly including getting Domain 1.

This is doubly true if you want us to get to Appraisal while saving one or both of our Sable Light Pills. Because they do a lot of meridian opening, SLP weeks produce a good deal of overflow - so skipping those weeks means that we need to take extra Spiritual training actions to compensate. Furthermore, all of our Yin arts are also Darkness arts and therefore benefit from the Black Pool (therefore giving Spiritual XP); if we hold off on completing them, that means less XP, and if we do complete them that means we have to only open Meridians with our SLP, and that gives us more meridians than we actually need.
 
It'd definitely help if we could get some free spiritual rolls that double up with Meridian Opening or using the Mystic Vale.

She is appraisal green but not bronze.
 
Personally, I think our focus for tournament-prep should be on getting to Domain 1. Conveniently, the things that I think are a higher priority than this focus would be leveling FVM, FSS, SCS, PLR, and TRF... all of which we'd want to do to push that focus anyways.

Getting Domain 1 takes our domain attack from being clumsy and useless to being on par with our very best attacks dicewise. That effectively takes us from three combat actions a turn to four... which I think should make a massive difference. It is also a priority we can pursue more-or-less without sacrificing our other actions - we just have to focus our efforts on more domain-developing actions when possible.

Bonus rolls would be great - if we got a stash of great drugs from our moon mission that could definitely help us a lot.

Adding GSS to silverblood though does stuff all. It's 3 rolls at +10, so effectively ~+15 successes. Of which a third goes to spiritual. So it's an amazing +5. Not really worth it.

Yeah, I'm tired so I thought the GSS would replace the 5 value YSS instead of one of the 10s. Guess I should sleep. Still would just be grasping.

I'd still like to get Silverblood+Argents going. Mystery box is mysterious, and while AS is lavklustre, especially now that we have PLR to give us more GOTTA GO FAST the others are solid.

If we don't go for appraisal, then cultivating argent arts isn't that attractive.
Also next year we will have only them and spiritual/physical to cultivate other things will be maxed until appraisal.

If we want new art now would be good time.
Something with darkness/wind/wood

Good options would be:
1. something to buff our music arts/debuffs
2. physical damage art (because AC is fire/water and FSA is maxed) options could be
- archery
- music
- flying sword
- stealth combat

Another possibility is that we search for something on the second floor, if we master it fast enough we could insert it into domain.

I'd still like to get Silverblood+Argents going. Mystery box is mysterious, and while AS is lavklustre, especially now that we have PLR to give us more GOTTA GO FAST the others are solid.
Actually, the value of PLR isn't really in movement at all. Its main value is it's ridiculous defensive passives (+4 p.def, +2 sp.def), and to a lesser extent social and escape boosts.
 
If Spiritual is a pipe dream, we need to bite the bullet now and move overflow to Qi.

It doesn't matter how full our XP bar during the tournament, but 1-2 qi might matter.

I don't think we should get another art at this point, but this would basically be the only type I think would be worthwhile. Something that causes a baseline effect like FVM or PLR, but that is focused on damage instead of debuffs. Add another circle into our giant pile of debuffing/zone control/light damage circles. Just this time pick up one that really hurts everyone that we force to stay around. I don't really expect anything of the sort to carry the day before the tournament though.

Spiritual Appraisal still has a ghost of a chance, in the form of pills from the moon mission.

If that mission doesn't get us Spiritual-Cultivation pills, at that point we bite the bullet and start putting Spiritual overflow into Qi instead.

Well... I've been a proponent of weather control for ages. Like, being able to play the song of storms on our flute and drop a tornado on people would be pretty cool :p (also would give us more wind)
 
So Ordis brought up an interesting idea in the Discord. We're potentially looking for another Spirit beast to bind, and ideally we want it to synch with our build (in a different way to Zhengui). And this mission just popped up.
Durian Snatching: A large shipment of Crimson Spined Durian fruit destined for the provincial capital was waylaid by a gang of Grinning Crescent Monkeys, cunning second grade beasts native to the deeper forests, a disciple is required to recover the fruits through whatever means necessary. 20 points.
Grinning Crescent all but states they're moon-related, with a focus on thievery and sneaking, and at second realm they should be relatively easy to bind depending on how we go about it.

Plus we could end up the Boss of a group of 40's era Monkey mobsters with Brooklyn accents, which would be amazing.

EDIT: Though we'd probably need to spend an action researching them in the archive just to be on the safe side.

Look, it's an intresting idea, but I just don't see how it's better then binding Sixiang. The muse seems perfect for us, and we got to meet her from a 97 roll result on a quest for the Moon. Yes, we probably should bind a second spirit. Not sure if before or after the tournament, but we should. But it should be Sixiang, not some monkey.

Or are you saying a Tier 2 monkey is better than a tier 3 muse?

Sixiang is definitely a contender for us to bind, but I'd rather not do so before the tournament considering the cost to our qi a Third Realm Foundation level spirit would incur.

At the least I want to look up the Monkeys in the archive, if only so we know whether binding one would be viable.

This is what Zhengui bring us:
+10 dice to cultivation of Fire Arts
+10 dice to the cultivation of Wood arts
+2 Armor vs Fire damage
+2 dice on all power/expression based offensive clashes
+1 health box

We have 9 more weeks to the tournament. Assuming a similar bonus from Sixiang you're giving up something like, well, let's assume two actions a turn that her bonus helps us, and 15 dice for tier 3 spirit, so something like 270 bonus dice you're giving up, not to mention the peripheral bonuses she might give. Like better attack and such. Or the combat contribution she herself would give. She is third realm herself. I'll bet you she's no slouch.

I don't know. I like the idea of having her for the tournament. But I just don't know what the price would be.

Zhengui is 13 at tier 2, and with something like -3 maintenance cost, if I remember right.
Sixiang would likely be something like 20-21 to bind. Which yeah, it would be a chunk of our Qi. The question you should be asking is if her bonuses to combat(expression, and whatever else she could provide) and having her help in combat would outweigh the cost of cultivating more Qi. Compared to cultivating more arts, which is what we are doing right now. Yes, I want FSS at a higher level, but how high?

Basically, depending on how much Qi it costs, and if we can even do it(because we don't know if she wants to be bound), I think it might very well be worth it.

EDIT: Also, regardless of who we choose, we should get a second binding before the tournament. Bai thought it was a good idea. Why shouldn't we? The difference between a team of 2 and a team of 3 is pretty big, you know?
