Brockton's Celestial Forge (Worm/Jumpchain)

...Did he just totally forget that he has a power that lets him work anything like just iron during the crafting process, which means that he can theoretically apply the effect fully generally?

Craftsman of the Gods works on anything made out of base materials. Iron is a base material. Joe can work anything as if it were iron. Ergo, Joe can proc Craftsman of the Gods on everything he creates.
ok what did he create that he needed to use it on? the gold, Upper crust or the anti spy field? Was there something else I missed that he could've had an inner monologue I don't remember about not being ale to use it even though he should?

edit: he thought "I can only use it on basic things and not my tech" right? -_-

edit 2 he didn't so I'm confused what you mean and why you brought it up

I've been binging this story and I'm finally caught up! :D
Now I have to wait for the next update!
...
:o

I love we finally saw Uppercrust's healing and the deal is great.

I would have loved a PHO announcement "The Celestial Forge welcomes it's newest member, Uppercrust!" just for the chaos that would cause, but I get why they will keep it on the down low.

Working with Uppercrust should be fun, especially if they tinker together.

In general one thing I've been missing is collaboration with other Tinkers.

Something like "Apeiron's Study Group! Looking for someone to tutor your tinker? Look no further!"

He could invite Armsmaster, Uppercrust, Blasto and Kid Win, have tons of fun, supercharge human technological development and we would get the hilarity of seeing their reactions.

The one thing that bugs me is that Aisha still hasn't told him that Brian is her brother.

At this point it's borderline malicious. He is busting his butt and literally risking his live to get the money to take care of her, meanwhile she is off in workshop-heaven, living a super privileged life, getting new powers and an invaluable education.

What exactly does she think his reaction will be to finding that out? Or Jozef's reaction, given his own history with his sisters?

I'm fairly certain Aisha isn't ever planning to tell Brian. I think she's relying on the fact that Joe already has a vested interest in keeping Brian alive to not worry about Brian risking his life. Also at this point anything short of him getting one shot by some one will just have the Celestial Forge jumping out of a portal in seconds with at least 12 kinds of healing.

Aisha started off thinking that the whole 'Joe doesn't know about Brian being my brother' as a joke, and as she's matured she's gotten more and more stuck in her own head that it's not just 'not a joke' but it's gotten worse and worse, but she can't dig herself out of the hole she's stuck in.

The latest update.

Craftsman of the Gods works on anything made out of base materials. Iron is a base material. Joe can work anything as if it were iron. Ergo, Joe can proc Craftsman of the Gods on everything he creates.

As if it was iron applies only for how easy its to work with the stuff, it doesnt give it any other property of iron.

The situation is quite the opposite of what you think it is, honestly. At this point, her relationship with Brian being a secret is the biggest stressor to Aisha. She could get away from her mother, her new skills and independence have impressed her father, but Brian and Joe not knowing is the hot button that causes her a lot of distress if she ever thinks about it too much. But honestly? Not only is Brian certainly safe with Joe looking after the Undersiders, it's also WoG that Joe would be frustrated, but understanding if the secret ever comes out, as he would understand how it came about.

(Also Brian kind of voided being able to tell Aisha what to do after he signed up to become a villain and stayed as one after the events of the lockers. Part of why the Undersiders have stuck together is Brian's insistence on it and the importance he places on image, but Brian could've retired the moment Joe healed him and Joe would've been willing to help him retire as a villain or even as a cape entirely if he wanted. It would be one thing at least if Aisha ever abused her technically higher position as part of the Celestial Forge to order around her brother, except she's actually taking her identity as Lethe with far more thought and seriousness than Brian at this point.)

So as opposed to Aisha making light of a big deal, it's closer to Aisha making a small misunderstanding into a huge deal for herself.

I mean, Craftsman of the Gods is a 600 CP perk, and LR tends to be pretty generous with his interpretation of those. It could very well be that he rules that Exotic Compatibility allows Craftsman of the Gods to proc on just about everything. We won't really know until there's either a suitable WOG or it comes up in-story. Personally, though, I'm betting on the Exotic Compatibility-Craftsman of the Gods Wombo Combo just because I think it sounds awesome.

Wow, looks like I took the right moment to catch up with this story again.

I sort of fell off the internet due to real life stuff back in April, but binged all the new chapters right now - which was awesome. I guess this preparation arch was annoying to read one update at the time, but bingeing it all and finishing with the chapter of healing Uppercrust was damn satisfying. 10/10 - would recommend :D

Yeah, this situation has gone slightly out of control (like all things involving Apeiron:eyeroll:) but it's not really malicious. Aisha started out with spying on Joe back when he was nothing but a newbie tinker that seemed all set to join the Undersiders at any moment (from her point of view). Back then the idea of Aisha jumping out and saying "Hi bro! Oh, hi Joe! What? Yeah, I know that guy. I'm a parahuman too and totally knew about your gang the whole time," to Brian during Joe's next meeting with the Undersiders seemed like a great joke.

Then things escalated. Fast.

Aisha's been maturing and no longer finds the whole thing funny, but as Psiidmon said, she can't dig herself out of that hole and is seriously stressing about it. But, on the other hand she knows that Joe is serious about protecting the Undersiders, so she feels that Brian is safe as it is. That she can put off the revelation without endangering her brother.

This is understandable from her POV, because the in universe time from 'Joe the new tinker about to join the Undersiders' to 'Apeiron the Enigmatic Artificer who makes his own rules' has been what? A handful of days at most? While a lot of things have happened for her personally, Aisha's relationship with her brother shouldn't have had much time to change and she's been putting it on the backburner while dealing with more urgent stuff.

Plus I'm not sure Aisha knows that Brian's reason for working with the Undersiders is to provide for her. As far as she knows Brian just decided to start a low-key villain career and now has a gang. I don't think there's ever been any hinting at the idea that she knows he's doing it for anything but straight up money and cape reputation.

It's a big misunderstanding. One that just keeps getting more awkward as Aisha's powers and resources grows, but its still not malicious.

She's still going to have to deal with it soon - or something will probably happen and reveal it at the moment of maximum drama... Personally I bet on drama.

Except there is one big issue: every hour she is learning incredible valuable skills she is basically denying her brother.

By just saying: he is my brother, she could secure him incredible experiences, knowledge and a say in what's happening in his own life.

Joe trusted her because of his power and his power insisted Brian is cool too, so he should trust him as well.

She could argue they can't risk informing him because of Coil but than that argument needs to be made and discussed.

I mean, imagine finding out your sibling was hanging around with Superman, learning Kryptonian science and being granted powers and just never telling him you existed?

How would you react?

Well, Brian should have had a discussion about the whole criminal parahuman thing too then, shouldn't he?

Aisha *knows* anyway because her power is literally the best at spying, but he's the one that started hiding an increasingly large part of his life from her while trying to get custody, without even asking her first.

And Joe is a lot more cautious about the impressions his power gives him now than when he first met the Undersiders.

If he gets a spark with all his other boosts and divine abilites the world explodes, I concider that an auto cannot turn of ability. All I know about GG is that if you have a spark you're literally insane

Eh, Sparks are definitely neuroathypical, they tend to megalomania, but that comes more from the power to alter reality, we humans already get mad with power for any amount of power we get. If you suddenly gained the ability to bend or break the rules of reality you would also lose it a little. Furthermore, the "normals" also get swept in the charisma of Sparks, kind like a vicarious access to that power. The instances of the Perk put you in the level of a normal spark and the other at the level of a Strong spark, like the main characters of the story, but it's been shown several times that proper mental health knowledge, and guidance allows a Spark to be "normalish", they only get swept in their fugues (exactly like Tinker fugues) or get extremely ... excited... when cooperating with another spark. In fact I would bet my cat's tablet that Wildbow got inspired by that feature of the story for the Tinker's fugues (GG has been going since 2002)

Brian has no leg to stand on regarding secrets.

He tried to keep his entire parahuman identity secret from Aisha.
It's not her fault she is better at it than him.

How is that comparable? He tried to keep it secret to protect his, to him, helpless and already troubled little sister.

Telling her would not have helped her in any way.

Her telling would help Brian and let Joe plan with more information.

I had assumed he was just outlining the perk's details by itself and forgoed thinking about perk synergies outside of the divine theme since he was both overwhelmed by the 600CP perk gain and still in a conversation with Uppercrust after he dropped the "Everything." offer. Plus, he'd probably get to it later like with how Secret of Steel's synergy with Exotic Compatibility was explained later.

I also assume there is a difference in its degree/scope of effect. Exotic Compatibility treats stuff as iron "until you begin building with it" while Craftsman of the Gods applies to anytime you make something from base components so it'd activate even when there's no prep, treatment, or forging involved.

Craftsman of the Gods applied to anything that used base materials. Metal, wood, stone, or water. Really, anything that could be traced to Ymir. Even materials with single levels of processing like glass, paper, or steel could be used.

Kind of a weird bet, considering that Tinker fugues are fanon. Weaverdice introduced Chaos Tinkers, some of which operate similar to the fanon Tinker fugue, but in canon there is not one single example of a tinker going into a fanon-esque fugue in either Worm or Ward.

You could argue that the Chaos Tinker variants in question were inspired by Girl Genius, which might be feasible.

list of things joe could do that will piss the PRT even more:

discover the lost city of Atlantis

travel to other dimensions

making a public interview

curse people with the only way of breaking it being a genuine apology

set up shop in Antarctica and claim to be its sovereign

decommissioning the birdcage

turning uppercrust into a pie

discovering alien civilizations and starting diplomacy with them

I don't think it matter all that much. Survey knows. If it ever comes to the point of being an actual issue, she'll tell Joe if Aisha doesn't do it herself.

Actually what Aisha hopes would happen. Aisha is aware that Survey might know - since she screens both her and Brian's calls - and hopes that Survey breaks the silence so she won't have to deal with it herself. But Survey keeps it secret due to Unwritten Rules as ordered to her by Joe.
How is that comparable? He tried to keep it secret to protect his, to him, helpless and already troubled little sister.

Joe hardly trusts Brian at this point, since he leads the Undersiders. Joe has no reason to cooperate with Brian's goal, especially when Brian's way of going about it would've not put him any closer to achieving it - if anything, without Joe's intervention, it would've just put Aisha under Coil's tender mercies like it currently is for Taylor. I imagine that if Joe does find out, he'll leave Aisha to take the responsibility if she would tell Brian herself - it's her secret identity after all, her family, not his.

Brian is basically the example of good intentions, stupid decisions. It's not as though Brian doesn't have the skills or work ethic to be a success in other work, so why turn to crime? Why hinge his hopes on such an unreliable cash flow as payments from a Bond villain and money from heists, if he wanted to look like a respectable enough member of society to take custody of his sister? Heck if he just wanted to stay parahuman, it's not as though the PRT isn't an option, it may come with certain obligations but at least it's fully legal.

Think about it. To Joe, on one hand you have Brian, the leader of what causes Joe the most headaches since his debut, the guy who insists on image and gang politics even as Joe knows that none of that would matter in a few weeks. He knows Brian is well intentioned and his passenger would support as much, but Brian had okayed the bank job and was a career criminal with all that entailed before Joe even met him.

On the other Joe has Aisha, who has been part of his emotional support for effectively more than a year at this point, who is also well-intentioned but hasn't really done anything bad other than to Joe's privacy - to which she is willing to pay back for, no matter what. And though he will be frustrated about it, it'll be WoG that Joe will be understanding of the situation when it does come out.

Does any of that sound like Joe would take Brian's side any time soon and give him the option to dictate what happens to Aisha? Hardly, especially since Aisha literally dictates what global organizations do at this point as a member of the Forge and the de-facto most powerful Stranger known publicly. He'll probably just help Aisha choose on what she wants to do at that point.
