Just an idle thought, but does Firefly exist in this 'verse, and have any of the characters seen it? Because Rei is probably learning first-hand what it's like to be River Tam right now.
The original airdate for Firefly was in 2002, so I'd guess it's probably one of the most likely candidates for "did not happen".

Four, actually. The third season was later reworked as a movie, called Serenity. Asuka took Rei to a date to it, but hey, don't call it that in her vicinity ;)
Hmm... Movie of third season screened in 2015, so third season probably aired... 2012? So 2010 for the first season airing? An 8-year delay, then, in this timeline... hey, that could explain how it actually got a decent run. Due to the general chaos after 2I, it took time for relative luxuries like television filming to resume, and not all the same companies survived. Joss pitched Firefly to somebody other than Fox, whose executives had more sense and patience (or less competition for time slots due to the 2I disruption), allowing it to build up the critical viewer base to succeed commercially while it was airing.

Hm, I figure there is some time distance between series and movie, actually. The movie redid the third season because it was generally panned as the weakest of the four seasons, so it got an overhaul. If the movie comes out 2015, then the series ended in, say, 2010. That means the first season started in 2006. A four year time delay. That seems reasonable.

Ah; I figured Season 3 went into movie production while Season 4 was airing, or some such. Maybe I'm too used to anime series doing compilation movies or something...

Meanwhile, Pacific Rim is a hit comic-book series by Guillermo del Toro and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and there's no Game of Thrones because Martin didn't survive long enough to continue the books.

Fine, I'll go off to my "grumbling" corner. Hope you're happy! (shakes fist angrily)

I really need to get cracking with that list of reasons for why people would legitimately dislike Eva...

I had some ideas what reliving her past life as Lilith would do to Rei's headspace, and it's starting to look like my suspicions are being confirmed.

Now I need the whole chapter.

Shit, you're right.

This is going full Earn Your Happy Ending, isn't it?

You know what? If they actually get the happy ending? I won't care. I have enough assurance based on what Stryp has done so far to believe the payoff will be worth it (of course if the WAFF ends in a meatgrinder - or TANG - I'll be over here with my personal thousand yard stare...)
