I have to remind myself or my mind is blown. I was 6'4" when I was 13, so thinking of people not being 5' as teenagers is weird. I know Gendo wouldn't be tall by my standards, he is Japanese, but they drew him so tall and imposing I thought he was at least 6'. Finding out he's 5'8" is odd.

Well he does rely on pilots being broken enough to not be able to murderize any backup Seele may have and Rei being obedient. He seems to so focused on main goal and sure that all is going as planned that he doesn't even check from time to time whether it's true.
That would be tricky. With Hikari and her mother (presumably) already in there, that Core is already crowded enough! Cram in two more people, and someone's going to fall out. And if you let Shinji and Asuka melt into blissful tang together, good luck ever getting them to separate again!

Asuka or Shinji will be out quickly, they don't want to stay separated... maybe take few days to talk with moms but thats it.
I'd certainly expect them to be! Height is significantly correlated with access to high-quality and plentiful nutrition in childhood, and people born post-2I will, um, not have done well on that front.
