Misato: I thought we took out all of the X-dere simulators off the approved dating sims....

We're really going with this? This is actually a thing? :eyebrow:

Rainbow Trout is now canon.

Shinji: "So you just went from tsun to dere! That's literally how the character archetype works."
You know, I'd really like to see some sort of "Reverse Tsundere" who's demure and affectionate at first, but becomes more abrasive and bossy the more she falls in love with her love interest.

Shinji: Then I just kiss her and she's back to being my dearest dere.
That's what she wants you to think -- the tsun is actually going into an account with compound interest.

Considering there is no character archetype I dislike more, this would be the ultimate reading exercise in frustration for me.

...I am both okay and not okay with this.

Not really. Ozai is FAR more directly malevolent to Shinji. Gendo's a dick, sure, but I also don't think he ever tried to kill Shinji outright.
Gendo and Ozai both care far more for the daughter (for a given value) than the son. They both lose/get rid of their wife to further they're goals. And they both directly clash with an ancient conspiracy that they have a relative in. Oh, and in the end the son ruins the master plan.

Outside of Unit-00's berserker incident most likely reminding Gendo of Yui's Contact Experiment with Unit-01, Rei is nothing more than a pawn. Of course, it's likely the same holds for Ozai and Azula.

The second statement doesn't make much sense considering he is prepared to sacrifice all of humanity just to see his wife again.
