As an Angel, it looks convincingly WTF.
I mean, it looks to me a bit like "Arael as drawn by Kentaro Miura".
First off to me it looks more like someone took the Angel Of Curb-stomping and added Arael designs to it to make something more glorious. And i gotta say, i like the image.
Which brings me to the second; seeing and thinking that, am i the only one who kind of hopes that said Angel's get a similar redesign, even in a "if we redid the series for the umpteenth time this is what we'd make them look like" kind of way. Not that i think there bad per se; i am a fan and believer of simpler is better, and their original designs are pretty good. But i can't help but want something...grander.

In a previous post, I asked if anyone in Evangelion could be compared to the devil. Funny enough when looking through the "Satanic archetype" topic on TV Tropes, I found this in the Anime section.

  • Gendo Ikari from Rebuildof Evangelion. He tempts and manipulates people (especially Shinji, and even Kaworu) to get what he wants while they suffer. He brings the Apocalypse, reduces the entire world into a Hellish landscape, and wants to kill/become God in order to take His place. Kaworu even calls him the "Lilin King" and from Jewish mythology, Lilim were demons (Although in the original series, Lilim referred to humanity)
This inspires this question from me in Regards to Advice and Trust. Is Gendo in this story similar to that example?

Pantwheezegasp

I have finished reading the first 1,000 pages of this thread. Time to see if I can get fully caught up by the New Year...

I have a question in regards to Advice and trust. How likely do you think that Gendo's or Seele's fate would be similar to Charles Zi Britannia from Code Geass?

Hmmm, the basic idea of SEELE's Instrumentality and the Ragnarök Connection do seem remarkably similar.

I watched Code Geass before Eva (well, at least before I completely understood Eva) and I can say without a doubt Code Geass is just Eva if instead of being about Instrumentality (read: Anno's depression) it was about politics and revolution (with a side of magic). Like even in the English dub they got Spike to voice one of the characters who is almost 1:1 Shinji but evil. Code Geass is undeniably inspired heavily by Eva.

So what I'm hearing is that someone who knows Code Geass should drop Charles into a room with Gendo and Gabriel for them to compare notes :)

Mid-90s were packed with mech action animated dramas. There was huge interest in Macross Plus Voices, Gundam Wing Rhythm Emotion and NGE Cruel Angel Thesis at the onset of Napster. Geass raws were hitting the early YouTube I mean airing, immediately before Evangelion first Rebuild but borrowed more from GW.
However,
Anno certainly got inspired by the hype and allure of Sunrise's Geass, leading to ANIMA at least. Oh, he started working with them on SBY 2199, then they did Geass remake (Fukkatsu no Lelouch in early 2019).
But, 2019 was Netflix rebroadcasting the classic Evangelion with crisp video codec. 👨‍🍳
So, yeah.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. (a.k.a. Miraculous Ladybug)

I was thinking in the vein of my short where Gabriel and Gendo are the nominees for a Father of the Year award, complete with incredulous reactions from Adrien and Shinji :)
Oh right. I sometimes forget about current shows. Also to add a bit more to a previous post of mine, I can't help but imagine Gendo and Charls Zi Britannia working together. I chalk it up to playing various Super Robot Wars games.

Everyone forgets about poor RahXephon (aka, what would happen if, before creating an anime, Anno got good treatment and therapy for the depression... and also he took up the saxophone as part of the therapy)

Talk about coming full circle
