I can already picture Shinji singing Always Look On the Bright Side of Life, alone on the LCL beach, with the crucified remnants of the mass-produced Evas whistling along in the background.
Nah, the rest of the good guys would be there. And we would be seeing expel showing up en mass. The entire human population aside from SEELE would be untanged within a few weeks. And that's simply because there's only so much shoreline that people can return on.

And now, a moment from the script, right before the banana peel gag...

INT. MEDICAL WARD - DAY

As Shinji and the rest of the Nerv group moodily talk amongst themselves, camera PANS over to Fuyutsuki and Gendo in the corner of the room. They're encased in casts from neck to ankle, with shackles bolted on top.
I don't think they need much in the form of restraints. Also all that's missing is someone telling them how badly those things itch.

Fuyutsuki irritatedly turns to Gendo:

FUYUTSUKI: I wish I knew what they were going to do with us...but no matter what, I hope you get it worse!
Don't worry, Gendo is going to get WAY worse.

Gendo stoically takes in the abuse as the others in the room glare at him with hostility, then:

GENDO: I doubt you'll have to worry too much about that. Now that we got her out of Unit-01, Yui's divorcing me.
I would have her dating one of the bridge crew, namely Makoto. Kyoko's dating Shiguru.

Every family member of deceased Nerv employees are suing me, personally.
And all the surviving NERV staff.

Shinji's applying to the court to change his name to Soryu.
Oh he doesn't need to do that. I mean, Gendo changed his last name to Ikari, which is Yui's last name.

My civil rights have been permanently revoked...
That's to be expected.

And the only reason the rest of you idiots will get off lightly without a criminal conspiracy or crimes against humanity charge is because the UN council will have me there to disembowel with extreme prejudice... and I doubt I'm speaking figuratively.
Ohh, they would probably do some checks and then sign them off as "unwitting/unknowing pawns".

Even if they did, I don't think SEELE's personal army would care.
They won't, but they would be lacking any support from the JSSDF. Which was probably unwilling anyway (You Are (NOT) At Fault had that as they're reason for attacking, basically either they followed orders from one guy who was actually part of SEELE, or they and their families are shot dead).

Keel Lorenz of course - coming in to bitch about how everyone cost him his immortality.
If he didn't decide "Fine! I'll do it myself", gets his own custom Eva (similar to the Black Ace in Going Another Way, which was controlled via his cybernetics instead of the usual methods), and then shows up as the "final boss". And at the end gets either completely vaporized, or is tanged by Rei and Kaworu, giving him the immortality he desired, but not the way he wanted it.

If he hasn't already been arrested or Keeled over by then...
Or taken out as the "final boss" if you will.

And your thoughts on who winds up slipping on the banana peel?

And your thoughts on who winds up slipping on the banana peel?
One of the surviving SEELE goons who's ONLY looking at several lifetimes behind bars (basically by the time he leaves, he's going to be fossilized).

Almost certainly following a certain traditional practice where he was adopted by her father because she didn't have any brothers.
I was thinking that it was more of the first hints of his obsession with his wife.

Remember, at the very beginning Gendo wanted use Yui instrumentally, only as a way to get into Seele ranks. Changing the probably was a part of his plan. Especially that he was completely nobody then (hard to believe, I know).
He developed actual feelings to her later.

Oh! She should date Ritsuko - extra salty salt in the wound

Rei: Okay, sure, you get instrumentality.
Keel: HAHAHA! I WIN AFTER ALL!
Rei: And only you.
Keel: ....wait, what?
Rei: Just that - you want to be immortal? Fine, you get to be immortal. But nobody else wants it, so you shall be alone.
Keel: ...couldn't you just have me hanged?
Rei: YOUR KINGDOM OF ISOLATION AWAITS! [tangification beam]

I'll see myself out.

Hello, all!

Loaded all the threadmarked chapters onto an e-reader, and have been plowing through the story at an, admittedly, rather frightening pace. But it seems it's tradition to let the thread know when there's a new reader? Currently sitting down to chapter 11.8 over dinner.

Will make another announcement after catching up, then it's back to Reader Mode on SV to devour the omakes in the Apocrypha section, and a final announcement after catching up there.

Numerous unexpected twists so far. The 16th Angel was a real gut-punch, for example. Fascinating stuff.

Welcome to the show! It's always nice to see a new face join the discussion. Tea and biscuits are the general greeting snacks, and a good after-dinner finisher, it seems.

We're in the endgame, but there's always time to share your thoughts/musings/general exclamations. It keeps this place a happening place, y'know?

And with the endgame, once the dust is settled...

The fight scene really makes me wonder what a Superman vs. Mass Production Eva fight might look like. The Man of Steel's faced far larger foes, after all.

With the relevant info out of the way, I'm in love with this show. Superman's always been this big golden retriever of a man to me, and this show gets that to a T.

I think we got a taste of that kind of fight with "Last Child of Krypton" (totally separate fic).

Ever watched Overly Sarcastic Productions? They have an EXCELLENT video detailing Superman and what makes him great. One of their main points is that the reason not many liked the DCEU for so many years is because Clark was portrayed as being darker and edgier like the other characters and THUS he was missing the essence of WHAT SUPERMAN IS: an ideal to strive for.

Love that video. Makes me wonder about a Clark Kent, investigative journalist, having a little looksie around Tokyo-3 as things kick off. Maybe a little LexCorp interference here and there...
