impact tune extraordinaire with all the respect that unlife deserves
This has the same energy as a movie invoking dissonant serenity by having an upbeat pop song play over scenes of a city or fleet getting utterly decimated by an unstoppable force.

...Third Impact, then. Definitely Third Impact.

The image suddenly springs to mind of a far, far stranger battle between Unit-02 and the MP-Evas. More of a Scooby-Doo hallway chase that also happens to end with a Lance Copy still embedded in Unit-02's head.

The bridge (or what was left of it after fending off the JSSDF) watched the battle between Unit-02 and the MP-Evangelion.

"Uhh... Fuyutsuki?"

"No, Ibuki." In a mutter. "I don't believe this was part of the plan."

On the screens, Asuka was running in and out of various large doors, the MP-Eva following single file behind her.

"Do you know why we even have those?"

"Gendo had a Scooby Doo streak one day."

"I don't even know if that's true anymore..." Mused Makoto.

Out of several other doors, the MP-Eva peeked out, trying to find where the wayward Unit-02 went off to.

"...Least it's funny."

"Wonder if you'll be thinking that when they catch her."

Unit-02 was eventually intercepted, the MP-Eva eventually catching onto her pattern and how the doors worked.

Only this time around, she was bonked on the head with a false Lance.

"...I mean, that's not what I thought they'd do."

Luckily for Asuka, her stalling was enough for Shinji to get up and deployed in Unit-01 without a brutal and gruesome death.

Instead they started chasing Unit-01, exactly like they did Unit-02. "Oh God damn it." Muttered Fuyutsuki. "Just end this damn world already, I had enough of this!"

Luckily for him, Stairway to Heaven started playing on the background.

I would love to see art of this.

Eh, a story is close enough I hope :V

I like to think that the music for the impacts is different for each universe in the Eva multiverse. So technically everyone's choices are totally valid. Plus I'm enjoying listening to everyone's choices too much. That said, here's my suggestions:

First Impact: Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Second Impact: In the Flesh?

Third Impact: Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End

I always consider 2nd Impact to be from Misato's point of view, hence that song as a choice. Third Impact is the hardest for me because it depends what has happened during the story and where the OT3 and other main characters are mentally. I've imagined utterly romantic scenarios where Giant Rei absorbs Shinji and Asuka and then transforms into them. Giant Asuka and Shinji then literally remake the world with a giant kiss and the power of their love set to "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis.
I've also imagined scenes where Shinji willingly embraces nothingness set to "Plainsong" by The Cure.
Then there's the one where all three of them hijack it at the last second and "Rockhouse" plays while they pull faces and make the "too sweet" gesture at Keel and Gendo over the monitors.

Because in the end. Let's be honest. Everything is really the wrestling.

I feel like at least one of the kids have watched wrestling at some point, considering how massive it was in Japan until PRIDE essentially stole its gimmick and took all of its audience. Unless Second Impact somehow deleted both off the face of the Earth.

Oh I also wanted to submit this to the thread as well.
To me this is what Kaworu starts singing/saying when he's at that stage of being high where you're still buzzed but have spent all your energy. His visions of other post 3rd impact worlds start messing with his head and cause...this:

Then he starts weeping and huggles Shinji until he passes out.

I have a question iun regards to Evangelion. What sort of music do you think fits any of the impacts that occur?
My picks are:

While others here have gone the more general "creation" route, I chose this song based on First Impact's depiction in Chapter 9, in reference to Adam & Lilith's unspoken feelings as well as the final days of the First Ancestral Race.

Downshift suggesting Stairway to Heaven for the canon Third Impact inspired me to pick another Led Zeppelin classic for the Second Impact. IMO, Kashmir's lyrics mesh well for the most part with Adam, the near-destruction of the world and ultimately the coming of the Angels.

Along similar lines to Dark Machine's post above, Imagine Dragon's "Warriors" strikes me as a good fit for a world-rebuilding Impact, with its poignant melody yet uplifting lyrics a good counterpoint to the upbeat melody but depressing lyrics of Komm, Süsser Tod.

I've imagined utterly romantic scenarios where Giant Rei absorbs Shinji and Asuka and then transforms into them. Giant Asuka and Shinji then literally remake the world with a giant kiss and the power of their love set to "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis.
Heck, come to think of it, rather than "Can't Help Falling in Love", why not "Hey, Jude" itself (the song Komm, Süsser Tod is a knockoff of)?

On a vaguely related note, I also feel "Today is the Time for Goodbye" (the infamous Dummy System theme from Rebuild 2.x) fits well with Rei's heroic sacrifice at the end of Chapter 10 (bonus points for being sung by Rei's Japanese VA Megumi Hayashibara):

For me in regards to music for the impacts, there are two that I feel fit quite well.
Quite apt, considering FF6's Cataclysm and Chrono Trigger's Day of Lavos are very Impact-esque in their own right.

I am quite pleased with the various ideas for music for the impacts. It is an impressive turn up. As for the music I chose, as Calysma said they are impact esque in how they sound. For Final Fantasy 6 "Metamorphosis", the way the world is ravaged resembles an impact. The world of ruin even resembles a post impact world. Makes one think that game was ahead of its time. For the Lavos theme from Chrono Trigger, I chose that particular version because the lyrics just scream insanity.

for the impacts... 4'33'' ...the soundtrack for the end of the world will be the end of the world

*runs from an angry Shinji for suggesting silence is music*

continued tales from re-reading, brought to you by this REALLY boring virtual meeting I have to listen to!

If Doctor Akagi had been watching, she might of noticed the careful rigidity that Rei held her face to melt swiftly into a far more eerie stillness.

Rei didn't move, didn't cry out, didn't give any sign of distress. She just stood there in the empty upload chamber of Terminal Dogma for a long, long time, the blank eyes of her backup clones mindlessly watching her from the circling tank. Her stare back at them was all but identical.

Eventually, she took slow, robotic steps forward, walking towards to the exit door. She would not need clothes before the morning. She had nothing else to do but go to her assigned cot and sleep, as ordered.

Though that was hours more sleep than she required, the wait would not bother her. Nothing bothered her now. Deep inside, beneath layers of fog and comfortable numbness, a tiny voice wailed in anguished protest at the return of the hazy stupor that had so long consumed her thoughts, but it was soon extinguished, no match for the tidal wave of drugs coursing through her.

But it was okay. It no longer bothered her at all.

*soundless screaming*

that is all! Carry on.

I haven't written an omake in a while, so here's something I thre together in 10 minutes. I hope it an't too bad.
-----
It happened on occasion. Every night he would have dreams, visions. His unique existence as an Angel allowed him a glimpse into other worlds, but at night he often wandered unintentionally while he dreamed. Normally though, it was no different then dreaming. These worlds couldn't see him and he couldn't interact at all. Merely a witness to that world's events. Normally...

He found himself is a swamp. Mud and moss surrounded him and every step submerged his feet entirely. He was wearing his school uniform, which he clearly did not go to bed with. It wasn't like any of his other wandering as he felt his actions. He felt the humid air as he marched, he felt the wet mud beneath him, and he left footprints in the swamp.

"Well, well, well. Not often I get guests like this." A deep voice, with a hint of amusement spoke. It was loud and clear, but Kaworu could not see where it came from.

"Where are you? Where am I?"

*SPLASH*

Something huge bursts out of the water and land several meters in front of the troubled man. It was a large beast, with bright yellow eyes. It had the appearance of a giant catfish, but dressed as a facy gambler. As fancy as clothes tathered and ruined my mud could be.

"With pleasure. I am the River king, and this is my domain. I offer a warm welcome...Tabris."

Kaworu frowns. "That's not my name."

"I beg to differ." The beast moved its gaping maw, and smirked. Kaworu knew it was pointless to argue, it likely enjoyed how uncomfortable that name made him.

"Why have you trapped me here?"

"What gave you that conclusion?"

"I've been trying to leave, but i can't. Something is holding me back."

The beasts smile grew and Kaworu finally got to see its teeth. Large and sharp, a shark would be jealous.

"Good assessment, yes I am holding you here, but to be fair you came here all on your own. Is it wrong to hold a home invader to account when he trespasses?"

"No, that's fair. And in that case I apologize for my actions." Kaworu's words were genuine. Considering the lengths his fellow pilots and himself would have gone in a similar situation, he figures the initial hostility was born due to his actions.

"Your intrusion was more entertaining then insulting. So I accept your apology." The beast tips its hat. "However, while you are here..."

Kaworu tenses as he knows he's on the back foot with this being.

"... It would be remiss of me to pass up on making you an offer."

"An... offer?"

"Yes. For a once in an eternity deal." The beast closes the distance slowly, his arms in a open posture to show he is non-hostile. Kaworu waits for him to continue, but when its clear the beast was waiting for a response he nods his head to gestures him to continue."As I said, I am the River King. And I am a being capable of roaming the rivers of time and space unimpeded. The dadric sea is but a kiddy pool for me."

"O..k..."

"It means, that I can fulfill any desire asked of me. Including yours..."

Thump thump

"What do you..."

"I've seen the way your eyes wander. The way your souls yearns to know and understand what it was not designed to. The small envy feel as you watch those that you love experience life more than you. How it takes a mile of marching to match a single step from them."

Thump thump

"Tabris, I can offer your deepest desire. I can make you human."

Silence. Only the sound of bugs and frogs can be heard. Kaworu for his part was stunned, his eyes opened wide and his face was of shock and suprise.

"Lies! You cannot... that's impossible!" Kaworu finally speaks, but panic fills his voice.

"I can understand the scepticism, under most circumstances you'd be right. But I play by a different set of rules. It wouldn't be painless, but I promise at the end, you'd be human."

"What... what do you want?"

The beast grins. "Normally, I'd ask for you to let me in, but in your case you have something better. Your solenoid. Infinite energy has its perks and for you its practically free since humans don't have one."

"I... I..."

"No need for pressure. A decision like this takes time to make, plus I'd figure you'd want to discuss this with your 'better half' as it were."

Kaworu nods. He almost certainly wanted Rei's opinion. She would have the answer.

"Here," the beast takes off its hat and pulls a card out of it. Despite the filth covering said hat, the business card was clean. It read Tahm Kench, the river king and nothing else but weird markings. Was that the beasts name? Kaworu thought.

"Use this card in combination with your ability, and it'll bring you right back here. However, my offer isn't forever. By tomorrow night the card will vanish and our business will be through."

Kaworu looks at the card once more befor turning back to the beast.

"So think about it. And don't forget. You need to.."

‐-------

"...wake up!" Familar red eyes replace the frightening yellow and Kaworu's beloved comes into view. With nothing but their blanket to keep them modest, Kaworu remembers the night before and their act of passion.

"Good morning Rei."

"You worried me. You were tossing and turning and your soul was twisting in on itself. I hadn't seen it get that bad since we destroyed they last fragment of adam." Rei got up to get dressed as she spoke. Mindful to keep her back to her love. He wanted him to hear her, not blank out due to the show.

That would be for latter.

"I had a nightmare. It was... harrowing."

Rei turns to see her love and notices how bothered he is. To the point where his love was bare before him and he had no reaction. So she went for a hug.

"Do not worry yourself. It was only a dream. Come, we want to get dressed. Shinji is making breakfest. He wanted to show off what he learned from his cooking lessons."

"Cooking lessons? Shinji? Isnt he already an envy of 5 star chefs?" Kaworu smiled, proud of his friend.

"Yes, but he apparently found someone better and is under his tutelage. A Emia...or was is Emiya? Regardless, nows the time to see the fruits of his endevours!" By now Rei was fully dressed and ready to go.

"Ok, give a minute to get up and dressed myself. I am curious to see what changed."

"Ok..oh and Trout."

"Ye-" Rei kisses him silencing his response.

"Don't let it it get to you, I'll always be by your side."

"Ok. Thank you." Rei leaves the room to join the other appartment. Kaworu gets up and begins to get dressed, when he notices something in his pocket that was supposed to be empty.

A business card.

The multiverse truly is a wondrous, strange thing. God-like penguins notwithstanding.

Also, I can only imagine Rin and Asuka getting along like a house on fire, and Shirou and Shinji patiently trying to hang on as they cook something truly delicious.

>re-read continues<

"Because my friend is in the middle of a Benzodiazpine overdose, shaking, incoherent, and we're concerned she might go into a coma," Asuka said calmly with no change of tone. "Shinji is staying with her, trying to keep her anchored in the real world. She's been in and out of touch with reality for a while."

Sorry Misato - no funtimes with boytoy today. Please start adulting - kthnx.

could be worse could be a stupid trout : P

"Good assessment, yes I am holding you here, but to be fair you came here all on your own. Is it wrong to hold a home invader to account when he trespasses?"

I like the foreshadowing, if that is the word to use and assuming Kaworu is reading Rei's subtle antagonism while half asleep.

Was there supposed to be a double negative in that meme?

Meme supply facts.

*re-read intensifies
"I don't recall anything like this," Misato noted.
