Not an expert when it comes to medical terms, but I don't think "Fernsicht" is right (checking that rather seems to be "distance vision"?). Binocular vision would apparently be "beidäugiges/zweiäugiges Sehen" or also "binokulares Sehen".

We Austrians love our high and mighty words (because obviously we think that makes us better than others :V), and even with my working at a public health insurance company, I only usually see it referred to as "binokulares Sehen". Terms with an "-is" on their letter of referral tend to freak patients out.

I went with "binokulares Sehen" in the end, many thanks for the help :)

Oh yeah, sorry for making you sad Wolk :V

Given that Rei's genetic makeup is part Yui and part Lilith, wouldn't that technically make her Shinji's half-sister?

I was never really sold on the argument that Rei was simply a clone of Shinji's mother, as (to my understanding) a clone would need to have the exact, precise makeup of the original, which should have (at the very least) given Rei normal skin pigmentation, hair and eye coloration etc.

Technically not. She would be his half-aunt (as in part of parental DNA, part not). Siblings are the closest genetic relatives we have - derivatives of two separate sets of genetics. Rei is not a derivative of Yui's genetics, she is Yui's genetics. Closest case would be Yui's fraternal twin sister.

Three cheers for doing a security system for a genetics lab, and actually listening to the people explain a paternity/maternity case. ;)

EDIT: Aaaand I'm currently showing off being an ADHD test case by not finishing the thread before responding. OTOH, the disturbing bit about 'fragments' of Yui's genetic material would (if correct) mean they are even less related, as they would have had to provide the required information from somewhere. And, you know, Jurassic Park brought up some significant issues with that kind of tinkering...

Oh, and Happy Fourth of July to those of us in the 'States!
And thanks to all of those who serve(d) the US Armed Forces for getting/keeping us to the point where we can celebrate it.

So, after dealing with a few fires at work(one almost literal, with me pulling a burning hot power cable out of a computer), I've finally found spare time to catch up here.

Missed a couple Chronicles entries. Read the first one I missed, and realized I missed both a great Papers, Please! reference and a crapload of hilarious MLP references. :(

Also missed Eliza hugging her son for the first time. Damn it.

Think I've got one more Chronicles entry to go before I'm caught up. Onwards!

Re: "Seeing the Commander act Major-General Stanley would have been... interesting, to say the least."
Z: "There's a lot of references in that I don't get."
Ri: "Pirates of Penzance is some comical musical, though I've never really seen it outside of western environments. Judge Judy is where they stick a bunch of morons in a courtroom and a judge named Judy berates them for being morons. I remember seeing it on television when we were in Massachusetts, I don't even know how that show's still airing."

Now I want to see Gendo singing Modern Major-General. Goddamnit.

Also, I like the idea of Judge Judy being a stubborn enough bitch to not only survive Second Impact, but still keep her show airing. It helps that I have a fondness for the show, itself.

Ma: "And if they do?"
Re: "Bucket."
Mi: "You can't just dump anyone who slights you in a bucket, Rei."

"That's strange, I believe myself perfectly capable of doing exactly that."

And now, all caught up!

Interesting that Mari woke up when they saw Kaworu.

And don't be sad, Maya! Gendo's not dead, therefore you didn't kill him! Perfectly rational logic!

Torn between them, honestly. Original just for the classic, but the Freeman's Mind version I think would fit that Gendo(and that world) much better.
I'm now imagining MFE!Gendo being driven to drink by something, only to stumble onto the command deck during an Angel attack and start singing the FM version, perhaps with a few Eva-related tweaks, complete with occasionally shouting at the crew (or the Angel on-screen) for not joining in on the chorus.

"Is that? IT IS! A submachine gun! Now I can solve 800 problems a minute!"

"I don't think the police are going to buy 17 counts of self-defense with a submachine gun."

"This sounds like a job for Ambassador Pineapple." [pulls out grenade] "You'll be representing me on the floor. Now go out there and work your magic!" [throws grenade, destroying the gun turret] "Oh! Sounds like we came to a resolution!"

Freeman's mind is just a never-ending stream of gold, and a lot of it would fit well in MFE.

I will have to look this Freeman's Mind version up. Now granted I haven't seen the original either, but it is sounding like a good 8-10 hours of my life

The entire series is brilliant, both the older Half-Life 1 series and the new Half-Life 2 stuff, but if you're just looking for the Major General sequence for the purpose of this conversation, this is the episode. It starts just over a minute and a half in.

And for reference to the original, here's a YT link to the song in Pirates of Penzance:

And a bonus song, just because 1) it's probably my favorite in Pirates of Penzance, and 2) I want to picture the cast of MFE singing AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS about how quiet and sneaky they're being.

Put best by one of the comments on that video:

So to summarize: The police fail their move silently check, the pirates fail their perception check followed by failing their own move silently check, and finally the major general fails his own perception check.

In the game Company of Heroes, you can order your anti tank gun to camouflage itself so the enemy won't see it until it fires.

When clicking the camouflage button, there's a chance for the gun crew to respond, "HIDING; KEEP IT QUIET!"

Well, I guess that's the last chance for a Rebuild to open with young Mari entering an optician's shop in ruins with her silhouetted father to look for glasses for her, until her reminds her they have to hurry or Mama will get angry enough to use German words again. :p
Welp, so much for that I guess (could still be a flashback somewhere in the movie....? >_>)

I take it the preview's live, then. What's the content?
Mainly Wille crew in Paris doing some hacking (everyone get's a plugsuit now?), Mari fighting off (fake) Angels while they're busy, some crazy stuff happening (floating battle ships used as shield, Mari using the Eiffel Tower as spear), they manage to "un-impact" parts of Paris, getting their NERV base up and running, something about cannabalizing their EVAs for 02? No Asuka/Shinji/Rei.
Uh, getting an error that message is too short, so here's some more text...

What I find interesting is what Mari said at the end of the preview.
"No matter where you are, I'll search for you, just wait Little Puppy (Shinji)."
What's her endgame here?

Obviously, she just wants to look out for
(this version of) her Dad. :p
Gotta keep hoping as long as I can... ;P
Always my No.1 Rebuild theory, as a sub-theory of the whole idea of cycles/repeats. The idea of
Mari trying, maybe not even for the first time, to save some version of her parents
just appeals to me.
