I haven't seen Rebuild 3 (and probably won't at this rate), but I have to wonder...

How much of the world being destroyed is due to Shinji's accidental Third Impact, and how much is due to it being interrupted partway?

I mean, the Third Impact we saw in EOE was one fueled by despair and loneliness. The one in Rebuild 2 was fueled by determination and love. What would the end product have looked like?

It would've destroyed the world, as Shinji had no intention of saving anything other than Rei, even himself or the world.

The Third Impact in Rebuild 2 was fueled by despair and obsession. It wasn't true determination and it wasn't true love.

I thought it was more or less established that a real 3I followed shortly after 2.22. Atleast when you look at the lackluster info 3.33 gives on the subject.

Although most the info has to be concluded from what Kaworu says and and what we get to see.

Not accounting further available material, which I ignore (information that should have been in the movie and not begged for afterwards).

With the way Lilith looks in 3.33, it's entirely possible an Angel got down there and had its way with her. Of course, there's many possibilities and no answers as to what happens in the years following N3I (making it perfect fanfiction fodder :V).

I have a feeling though that Gendo (or SEELE, or both) tried playing their hand during the interim however. The World did not look like that after N3I (at least the short scene of it). Their shenanigans could explain several aspects of the post 3I world of Rebuild:

  • The moon having an atmosphere and looking like it wants to pull a Majora's Mask? SEELE/NERV terraforming to accommodate the production of Mark.x units.
  • Failures of Infinity? Side effect of a failed instrumentality event.
  • Rei Q? Gendo doesn't give any shits about Rei with the apparent demise of Rei-2, and has used her as an expendable tool countless times over the years (if I remember my Japanese correctly, kyuu = 9, therefore 9th iteration. Or 17th, because Q is 17th in the alphabet)
Of course this is speculation (as is everything when one tries to explain just what the hell happened in 3.33), but that's all we have, and we've had plenty of time to theorise and speculate.

And probably more time after 2020, because we're most likely to be given more questions and no answers. Because Anno :V

I'm not going back there, but I'm certain that some banal 'discussions' we have in those early pages were either breeding grounds for, or generated by, Dementors. The Staff Post threadmarks were necessary. You know what, I checked that last one, that was Page 1191, so I can't even say 'early' pages. Just get your coating ready.

You can have chocolate ice cream if you want, just not with Goat Curry. Maybe as a dessert.

Hi there! I've read the pages that the Staff Posts were regarding and I'm glad to not have been there in the flesh.

And thankfully I already have chocolate-induced coating to beat these sorts of "discussions". And happy thoughts. Can't forget those.

... We are talking about Susano and his "discussions" , right?

Hi everyone, as you may notice from my opening words i've lurked in SufficientVelocity for a while, particularly in Advice and Trust's thread. This fic is the best Eva fic i've ever seen, and its my main source of WAFF whenever i feel particularly down, thank you @Strypgia for making this. Also, apology in advance for my slightly broken english, since its not my first language.

Ah, that incident - I was by 1191 too hopped up on chocolate chip mint to notice anything but the staff post.

On topic, how will Rei's mental recovery progress, what do you guys think?

I'm rather sceptical that Rei would regain her memories before either SEELE or Gendo enact their plan. In fact, my expectation is that something will happen in the endgame that would trigger Rei's memories returning to her, possibly something traumatic please don't die Rainbow Trout.

The Wunder crew cocked up big time and should face disciplinary action for it. When your incompetence buggers the world up even more and dents humanity's already drained numbers, the best you should hope for is a bloody Court Martial.

Counterpoint, if we take into consideration that his emotional state is tied with Impact events, then telling him the truth might have backfired.

Why? Because the truth of the situation leaves no hope for Shinji, it can be boiled down to: "Shinji, your stunt to try to save Rei helped Nerv to destroy the world and kill thousands of people; no, Rei is dead, or trapped in Eva-01; and no, we aren't letting you do anything that could potentially lead to another impact, so sit in that corner and die."

No matter how much they could have dressed it up (and I doubt anyone would have wanted to go soft on Shinji), the truth is still a harsh one, and it would have ended with him going into the same pit that lead to EoE, so the only thing left to do is just to tell him scraps of the truth to keep him more or less sane.

Also, Kaji is supposed to be the founder of WILLE, making Misato his second-in-command; the former crew of Nerv is the closest thing WILLE has to a top brass.

I have known about your ah, unique way of welcoming new posters, and i must say....... I wholeheartedly support it.

So, where should i lay down? I do hope the procedure is short and painless.
