well, as the emotional development was already pretty much set for where I started, so I just let my mind wander... not sure id be able to post it without spoilering out some of the developmental parts of the story, for maturity sake. some scenes are very adult themed... I just took what Ravist left on the table, and went my own way with it. gendo and yui take pride in being grandparents, gendo doing so without being forced to by yui. lots of introspection. it's chock full of WAFFy goodness, almost to the point it may need some darkness to balance it out (had some at one point, but wrote it out because it was too dark). all in all I think its a great fic, but i'm biased. not finished yet either, as the project I am working on for profit has taken priority, as I plan on putting $$ into it, being a from the ground up fiction story and all, i'm shooting for amazon, iTunes, and barnes and noble for sales points on it.
never read it, so I don't have anything to go by in reference.
once I get the last 2 chapters finished, i'll be looking for beta's, then I will figure out the whole posting thing. it's standard novel format, so 4-7k words/chapter, and it's at around 125k words currently. it really was a test run for seeing if I could keep the patience long enough to write a legit novel, the only bad part was that the idea for the real novel came before I was done with brand new day.

Also no one's actually linked it so! It's called Higher Learning, by Strike Fiss, which probably codified the Peggy Sue concept in Eva despite breaking two of the concept's major genre conventions.
(PS Holding Hands 1 and 2 are better, and to this day are tied with Phoenix Rising for best and most believable AxS romance in the fandom. PPS If anyone knows where Phoenix is archived, PM me and thank you).

Yes, thank you! One of my absolute favorite stories.
It's something you see a lot in the old Eva fics. Asuka likes Shinji, but she likes the competent & cool Shinji who kills Angels and doesn't afraid of anybody. We know now that it's not true (According to Anno, Asuka likes Shinji's sweetness and is THAT BAD at telling him and gets horrifically jealous/upset if he pays attention to other girls), but it's still all too easy to imagine that Asuka has a specific vision for what she wants in her life partner and is bad enough at communicating to make the budding relationship initially.... unpleasant, shall we say.
The other thing that Holding Hands nails is that canon Asuka and Shinji aren't traditionally good for each other so much as they bring out the best AND the worst of each other. They set up both a virtuous and a vicious cycle where they egg each other on to be better in ways that they need, but also prick precisely at each other's worst traits. A&T shows the virtuous cycle drowning out the vicious cycle before the latter has a chance to really get underway, but in a continuity where that doesn't happen it leads to bad history that needs to be addressed and worked through one way or another.
Beating the shit out of each other is probably the least healthy way of laying to rest years of frustration and mixed signals, but really that just makes it more appropriate.
