Conventional bullets have been shown to be useless against angels so far, so why should Kaworu be any different? Provided he has time to get his AT field up.
That last sentence is the key.
If his AT Field is at full strength, then yes, Kaworu would be no different than any other Angel when it comes to conventional bullets. But the other Angels didn't want to be beaten, and that makes all the difference. Kaworu has never lost a fair fight in canon, because in the end, he has always let NERV win. He's already stated that he intends to do that again here, if it comes to that (though it won't, if Rei has anything to say about it).
But hopefully Misato will be a bit more calmer than that. One thing I hate in fiction in general, is when a character immediately distrusts someone because they reveal something about themselves, in spite of all their actions thus far that they should at least be given the benefit of the doubt.
I would normally agree with you. But to a certain extent, this is part of what makes the Kaworu/Misato dynamic interesting. Everyone in Eva has their own reasons for fighting the Angels. Some, like the bridge crew, are doing it to survive. Some, like Shinji and Hikari, are just following orders. Some, like Asuka and Gendo, are following other passions. But Misato, and seemingly Misato alone, is driven by hate. And that hate is not gone.
Even as I talk about it being possible for Misato to kill Kaworu if she seizes the opportunity, I find it very difficult to imagine Stryp writing her actually
doing that. This does not strike me as that kind of fic. But reaching the point where Misato of all people is handed on a silver platter the opportunity to do exactly this, yet does not take it... well, that's the kind of thing you can write an interesting fic around. Besides, anyone who has seen
Avatar: the Last Airbender knows that "I don't hate you" can be WAFF-y in its own right, when said by the right person at the right time.
Or Stryp could surprise us. The more things change, the more things stay the same, and there
is another Dummy System...
