The implication is still there that for all the external damage she did, Asuka's last stand didn't do anything to stop the MP-EVAs themselves, or even so much as make them do anything more than stop messing around. They were purpose built to offer up Unit-02 as a sacrifice and use Unit-01 as a vehicle of apotheosis. So unless SEELE is run by incompetents, the controlling element of the MP-EVAs should have been made to be better fighters in every possible way: agility, strength, numbers, weapons, and tactics. They also seemed to lack the limitations of human pilots, namely any kind of pain response or internal organs.

So the MP series is superior to the baseline performance of Unit-01 or -02. They are controlled by Dummy Plugs, so it is possible they might lack initiative or creativity.

Or himself. Remember, Shinji was beating Zeruel like a rented mule all by himself, no need for Yui. He was literally in the middle of ripping Zeruel's face off when he ran out of power. Another 1 minute of batteries, and Shinji would have crushed the Angel of Might without any need to berserk. Shinji's got a lot of anger he can call on if he has cause to. And right now anything you might call 'a threat to Asuka or Rei' (such as '9 MP Evas with ill intent'), is a pretty good cause.

Had Asuka aim for the Dummy Plugs or the cores, she almost certainly would won the fight. The only reason she lost was because Fuyutsuki failed to inform her about the former and that the fact they had S2 engines.
