We should 100% take Oriko. It makes Homura more comfortable, Oriko's visions of her own death involve her being in town and Sabrina probably absent, there's no separating her from Kirika, and with any luck the situation will prompt her emotional epiphany and the remastery and evolution of her true powers.

That, and Sayaka will most likely start to slowly soften up to them if she sees that the both of them really do actually want to do good and are just kind of nuts about how they do it.

Oriko legitimately needs this, and I oppose any vote that doesn't try to convince her to come. Leaving it up to Oriko's decision isn't good enough because if we had consistently used that policy her vote was "let me die lol."

Not a fan of this plan. Oriko's visions implied that separation from Sabrina correlated with the probability of her getting ganked by Feathers.

This is true! But keeping Oriko in Mitakihara causes a bunch of other problems. Homura is staying awake nights watching Oriko's house. I want to end that situation.

Would you be happier if I changed it to "...for a week", until that soulguca gets here?

If it helps, I'll support nearly any plan that includes the Sayaka brain damage test.

I'll note that we have basically no time to work with on our way to Oriko's place. Sabrina's in a hurry, and Sabrina in a hurry freely ignores silly things like air traffic control, speed limits, and sound barriers. Given that:

[x] Strike team roster:
-[x] Mami
-[x] Sayaka
-[x] Oriko and Kirika
--[x] For the Pleiades: Summarize the truth. Oriko went Hard Woman Making Hard Decisions after her precog messed with her, you beat the snot out of her and now you're friends. Still under house arrest, though. She's coming because Kirika's coming and they're a package deal *wiggle eyebrows* and because it makes Homura more comfortable for them to be out of town.
--[x] Provoke some Kirikaness at the first opportunity. You bet that Kirika and Kazumi will get along perfectly.
--[x] For Oriko: Safer for her. Makes Homura feel safer. She needs some time outside doing something. Lets her demonstrate that she's changed. Kirika would love to make some new friends. Don't let her stay home, she and Kirika need this, trust you.

[X] Strike Team:
-[X] Mami
-[X] Sayaka
-[X] Oriko
-[X] Kirika

[X] Summarize for the Pleiades while in transit: O&K were a pair of Bad Meguca who did bad things because Oriko's power was screwing with them. We beat some sense into them, now they're on probation. Taking them along serves triple purpose as they're useful, need "yard time", and will help set Homu's mind at ease.
-[X] They're actually pretty cool, if a bit cracked in the head.

[X] After we finish with the Pleiades, whether still in transit or not, fill in O&K.
-[X] Sorry for the rude awakening, but we've got a crisis, and that means they have a chance to prove to Sayaka at least that they're trustworthy.
-[X] Speaking of, if Sayaka wants to take charge as their probation officer, that'd fit in neatly with the security thing we were talking about.

[X] We go to Asunaro. ASAP without snapping necks in transit.

---

So rather than focus on O&K, I'd prefer to focus on Sayaka. She'll be there with us in the MOF, after all, listening to our short version of events and probably giving some cynical (for her) commentary. So rather than be nice to the Kures, which is kinda meaningless since they're still technically prisoners and thus don't really have a choice, I decided to word it to focus on the fact that this is going to be Sayaka's first mission with the people who burned down her house, and tie it into the Sayapolice mention we dropped earlier yesterday. IIRC (I'm gonna try to look up the update after this and confirm) she seemed receptive enough to the idea, and this gives us a chance to test her out in a position of power over people she just doesn't like.

If she's fair, like we expect, we can confirm that she's got the Police Chief position locked if she wants it. If she's not, then we know she's not the right 'Guca for the job and can look for other places for her.

We need to ask to have a quick word with Homura alone and warn her about Kyubey still maybe having something it can hold over her in terms of damaging information and that it would logically strike when we're out of the city for an intended period. Tell her to avoid even listening to Kyubey about anything while we're gone.

She is one of the few people who's seen enough infobombs for this not to just make her ask it out of morbid curiosity.
Or... how about not.
Unrelated, do remember that Oriko gave an explicit warning not to let Homura know.
OK, so...

You know, I'm not that fussy.

Second, because I apparently have to be explicit about it: Yes, it's a warning. Things Will Happen if Homura learns that she is causing Madoka's potential to increase. Doubly so if Kyuubey finds the right time to strike, granted. It will not bad end the Quest, not just yet, but Things Will Happen. I've scattered hints and foreshadowing as to what those things are already, and as far as I can tell, no one's guessed it yet.

If you still want to do it, I can work with that, because I have contingencies for everything. Hell, in some ways, it'd be fun for me.

But be aware that it'd be a massive shift in the status quo.

I feel I should explain my choices.

[X] Thank Homura. Seriously.
-[X] Tell her she might have to receive the Shiogama girls arriving at 10:00 AM. If so, recommend getting Hitomi's or Madoka's help?

Since we're in timestop, might as well get this out of the way. Give Homura forewarning.

[X] Apologize to Sayaka for pulling this on her first big mission.
-[X] Is she OK with it? Offer reassurances if necessary.

Sayaka is... obviously troubled about our readiness to rely on the girls who burned down her home, so we very much should address her concerns.

[X] Get moving.
[X] Strike team: Mami, Sayaka...
-[X] Oriko and Kirika: Wake them, explani the emergency; how important this is for you and for the future.
-[X] Ask for their help. They've proved themselves in our eyes, and we'd appreciate their help a lot.
--[X] Privately: And this could help in ending the house arrest.

Remember, we need to give O&K motives to want risk their necks! At four in the morning, at that!

[X] Give the Pleiades the O&K abridged version, leaving Sayaka's involvement to be shared at her discretion.
-[X] Reassure them that you feel you understand Oriko, and truly believe she will help.

[X] Depart for Asunaro, picking up Oriko and Kirika if they agreed to help.

[Q] "Thanks, mom!"
-[Q] Give mom a hug.

[Q] Tell Sayaka that if she's truly a Paladin she can put up with working with O&K and it'll be a super awesome redemption and forgivance arc!

[Q] Wake up Oriko and Kirika by telepathically making an impression of a vuvuzela at MAXIMUM VOLUME.
-[Q] Tell them we're going on a mandatory trip for all inmates.

[Q] Tell the Pleiades Kirika is your Convict Best Friend, and Oriko needs to level up so as to learn how to shoot lasers.
-[Q] LASERS.

[Q] Come on, get going already! How many updates will it take to take off?!

O&K were a pair of Bad Meguca who did bad things
It might be more considerate to not dub them 'Bad Meguca'.

[X] Strike team roster confirmed: Mami, Sayaka, Oriko, Kirika.
    - [X] tell Kazumi's crew about the Kures.
-- [X] telepathy to Sayaka and Homura: Our goal is to move Oriko to Asunaro permanently, so you won't have to put up with her. Please don't be mad when I say nice things about her. : )
-- [X] Start with the hook: Kirika has antimagic powers which will be vital in this investigation; Oriko was a precognitive and can give us valuable intel.
-- [X] History: Oriko's had a hard life and isn't used to people trusting her, and it's given her a bit of a martyr complex. When she wanted to avert a bad future, she chose unilateral action rather than asking politely. (She tried to save Sayaka's life by burning down her house. We were very angry.) We have an understanding now, and if she gets visions in the future she'll talk to us before burning anything else down.
-- [X] Oriko is under house arrest after the house-burning incident, and she's lost her powers due to stress. We think getting her out of Mitakihara will be good for her as well as for Asunaro. We hope you'll be nice to her. She needs friends.
    - [X] tell the Kures: (1) we need your powers, (2) getting out of house arrest will be good for you, (3) it also will be good for Homura, and we need Homura stable if we're going to win this thing.
-- [X] BTW: we are going to win this thing. Don't have faith in yourself; have faith in me who has faith in you.
    - [X] pre-trip science:
-- [X] Sayaka, please copy Kirika's antimagic power and hold it, I want to try a quick experiment.
-- [X] telepathy to Sayaka: Kirika goes berserk if anything threatens Oriko. Here's a test. I want you to imagine me punching Oriko in the face repeatedly. Is that okay?
-- [X] if Sayaka isn't affected by the test, then she can take Oriko's power too. Use with caution.
    - [X] departure: welcome to Sabrina Night Airlines! We have hammocks and relaxing music. Feel free to nap!
[X] Ask Homura if she's willing to come along so we can do this in timestop--so that we can be back in Mitakihara in time to welcome the Shiogame immigrants.
-[X] Emphasize that our new allies were just attacked, and our visitors need to get back ASAP. Also, that you have an idea of who the culprit might be, and where she might be.
-[X] Point out that, by doing this in timestop, no one needs to stay behind in Mitakihara anyway.

[X] Onmur

Guess we won't have any time for tinfoil hats, then?
We could ask Homu to give us a few minutes.

We literally could.

With that time we could try to make speckled enchants to protect against mind magic, or something to protect our gem, or at least make the privacy device for the shadow fakers to copy.

Like, the option exists, and Homu probably would give us at least ten minutes.

We'd probably get to choose only two of those, max, though.

I'd go for anti-mind enchants; soul gem protection we can achieve with a grief bubble, and I think we can put off privacy fields till later.

Seriously, why the fuck aren't we asking for Homura to come with us and to use timestop for this? We need to be here to welcome the Shiogama immigrants, and to avoid skipping school for the relevant characters. No one needs to stay in Mitakihara because timestop. And Homura would be fine with it if we framed it as securing our relationship with our newest allies and making sure they're safe, given that one of them was just mysteriously attacked.

We can't literally be in Time Stop the entire time we're in Asunaro, Salty. It's only really feasible for transport; we need to talk to the other Pleiades, and possibly fight people.

Like, assume the worst case of "It's Kanna". We'll need to talk to her. You wanna bring that psycho bitch into Time Stop? I don't.

Yeah that's not going to work. Homura is bad enough with o and k in her time stop. That's her personal world. Too many people in there she hasn't grown to trust yet.

Is this the SV version of those heroin addiction skinner box tests, where the rats kept hamming on the lever even while they starved to death?

We took out several cities worth of Magical girls without Timestop. We have even more meguca going with us now than we had then, containing even more OP meguca, against what is almost certian to be fewer opponents.

Things will be fine, and if things get really, really bad, guess what, Timestop means that in a life-or-death situation, Homura can get to us at FTL speeds (in real time), though I hope we can all agree that things ever getting to that point would be a Very Bad Thing.

Homura has made her choice. Now are you going to respect it, or complain about how she's a rounded character rather than the deus ex machina/dakimakura that a worse writer than our frankly insanely devoted QM would be perfectly happy to compress her into?

Also, here is a link to my prologue draft for my slowly coalescing quest, because arguments or no, you lot have probably got a good idea of what works in this sort of quest, and I will freely admit that I am awful at editing.

I wonder, how much acceleration can a meguca undergo comfortably?
Dozens to hundreds of gees? The big limiters are keeping your lungs and respiratory systems active. Magical girls can probably keep their blood inside their veins at... I dunno, twenty or fifty times normal human pressure? It'd fit with the amount of force they can produce during jumps without bruising themselves. And their heart and diaphragm are probably about as much stronger as muggle equivalents as the rest of meguca musculature are. So I'd expect meguca gee tolerances to be dozens of times normal humans, so somewhere between 100 and 500 gees?

Well, they can probably withstand higher G-forces than F1 drivers or fighter pilots, at least.

Question: Can't we pick up Oriko and Kirika in timestop? It would give us a lot more time to work with to hash out how we want to deal with the Shiogama immigrants, and lets us work on convincing Oriko and Kirika to come (as the vote prompt suggests will be needed) under much pressure.

Oriko and Kirika suddenly popping up in our room might tip the Plieades off that we did something weird, but Sayaka appearing has exactly the same issue.

Thoughts?
