What's your plan once we're at Asunaro, by the way?
  • If we detect a gem or any mindfuckery, we've found her, stop time and go straight to getting her under control.
    • Before arrival, set up a person-tracker of some kind. Use this to address time-delay mindfuckery or delayed detection, and to cross-reference to detect things like "This person was hurrying away from every crime scene as we got there".
  • Inspect for infiltrators.
    • Hopefully witch names give us a hit.
    • If not, hop into timestop with Homura and let her take a nap or something while we griefhax up steadily more exotic detectors.
    • Other meguca we have should be able to contribute, people like Umika in particular.
    • I can't remember if metaphysical object reading worked, but we can probably get most of the way there with a tricorder (follows footprints and such) and some of the various powers we've collected. Umika and Niko would probably help here.
  • Locate the Clear Seed or anything that's missing from the lab. This is going to be a bit tricky, and I wish I'd gotten past the "we should do this" stage on attaching tracking devices to our clear seeds and consistently pushed for it.
    • With us and Mami bet we could track people's grief to the seed that they used to cleanse. Or if Hijiri used the seed and left it behind, track the grief back to the gem.
    • Hack together a sympathetic location-finder doohicky, use it to track seeds or missing lab equipment.
    • It's unlikely that the perpetrator left on foot, but try that anyway.
    • Ask Kyubey.
  • If Hijiri just fucked off and didn't take anything, find her directly.
    • Scan for Niko copies, DNA or metaphysical. Mami can absolutely do this, it's not even a question.
    • Use metaknowledge to find hideouts/areas she frequents, check those.
    • Use Mami ribbons to extend our grief sensing range and sweep the entire city in a single pass.
    • Get up high, build a hyperspectral sensor array with a huge aperture, augment it with some machine learning, and scan the entire city for meguca fingernails.
    • Ask Kyubey to connect us to her telepathically, then taunt her until we she makes a mistake. Niko may be able to force her way through the spam filters by claiming that being assaulted was direct contact.
Note that I haven't read PMKM and this is a nearly-pure science approach. I'm sure that there's a social angle to this that I'm missing that would make everything significantly easier. I expect that the "Taunt her" and "Figure out where she's going" angles are the least that could be done in that direction.

Uh... you want to leave the Pleiades out of it? Why?

I don't see Homura leaving Mitakihara, so there's no need for her to move right now, anyway?

Umika is going if she wants to. There's no question about it.
I don't want to leave them out of it, but we have to clear bringing new people into timestop with Homura. Operational time with Homura present is 'instant', and I absolutely cannot fathom why people don't want to abuse the absolutely broken power to its fullest potential. My preference would be that we go there now and bring Niko into timestop for the situation report, but we have to handle Kazumi first.

The only way we take half an hour to prepare and act on a response is if we want to and do so deliberately. We cocked up and didn't take more proactive measures to ensure Niko's safety, and now we're reacting to her (expectedly) being attacked (which we don't know for certain isn't still ongoing; I'd expect her to sound the alarm when her door got kicked in). Why on Earth would you suggest that we proceed to not only take an even more reactive stance, but drag our feet about it? People are in danger. Niko is our best lead to dewitching. Homura will leave Mitakihara if she can be persuaded it's necessary and we leave a sufficient rear guard, and she knows the stakes here. We can be to Asunaro in roughly four seconds, and if something happens at home, we can be back in roughly four seconds.

We didn't fuck around with Oriko; we should not fuck around with Hijiri.

I'm tempted to vote for something like this:

[] Request Homura timestop
[] Question: get Sayaka? If yes, do.
[] Infodump PMKM to Mami and Homura
[] Response roundtable. Our position:
-[] Mea culpa, got distracted and worried about kyubey and didn't do more to ensure Niko's safety
-[] Don't fuck with Mitakihara, treat this like Oriko minus the redemption arc
-[] Potential clear seed missing is meguca empty quiver
-[] Get over posthaste, hit hijiri like the fist of an angry god

While I was writing this, as a side note, this jumped out at me: "Oriko minus the redemption arc". We can use this as an opportunity to show Homura that, no, there are people that we may not be able to salvage, we really do think that Oriko has special reason to be safe now.

[X] Is she all right?
-[X] info report. We need to know as much as all the Pleiades combined before we even start flying
-[x] homu and saya get an emergency telepathy. Whether homu decides to come or not, we'll need timestop at least for the team. And Sayaka is likely playing home defense- possibly even the only one. She needs to be informed, because she's the most important role if so.
[X] as much of this as possible from inside timestop. If Homu doesn't want to bring in the Pleiades fine, but we need to smite them hard and fast.
[X] break for voting for plan Turn The Thiefs House Into A New Soddam

No reason to get info before timestopping. If we're going to timestop once we can do it twice; timestop before, infodump, drop ts, get info, timestop again.

Honestly, I think we can redeem her. She had an existential crisis when she found out that she was a 'fake' person with fake memories created ex nihilo by Niko's Wish. Well, so is Sabrina, except replace Niko with Madoka. I'd rather restrain her and have a pow-wow with her and Niko so that we can try to work out their collective angst and/or beat some sense into her. If we can Gensokyo the fuck out of her, well, two Kannas are better than one when it comes to magiscience.

I agree with going to Niko's place and tracking the thief from any traces left behind. That's probably the way to go, if the home Pleiades don't beat us to tracking the thief through their apps.

I absolutely cannot fathom why people don't want to abuse the absolutely broken power to its fullest potential.
It's not our power. Using the absolutely broken power to its fullest potential means using Homura like a tool. We've been trying to get Homura to treat herself more as a human being and less as a tool.

You yourself said we need to deal with Kazumi.

We don't know if anybody is actually in danger right now; we'll find out while calming down the Pleiades and asking for what we need to know.

If there's clear, current danger, we can ask Homura for a huge favour, specially since there being a current danger means there's no need to track down anything. It's just go there, deal with it, go back. Perfect use for timestop; it shoudn't bother Homu too much.

Now, the problem with taking Homura to Asunaro is obvious: Homura has a psychological need to watch over Madoka. It might as well take 'roughly four seconds' for Madoka to Contract/die, if Homura's not watching her, in her mind.

No reason to get info before timestopping. If we're going to timestop once we can do it twice; timestop before, infodump, drop ts, get info, timestop again.
... How is interrupting the timestop infodump midway through help?

get info, timestop, infodump with actually all the info

Easier to retain and analyze information when it's placed in a correct context. This is a simple result of information theory; instead of having to remember a list of uncompressed details, having the context allows them to encode it using the symbol-set of the setting which is much more expressive and information-dense.

Also means that Mami and Homura can use our metaknowledge to decide how urgent the situation is relative to information-gathering. We don't want to spend half an hour sitting in Mami's apartment asking questions before we timestop and tell them that we should have been moving the instant we heard the news.

Finally, second timestop would not be infodump. It'd be:
  1. Infodump timestop - global information
  2. Observe - current-situation information
  3. Planning timestop - use both to come to a course of action
If we were going to be pulling the Asunarians into timestop and infodump to them it'd be very different, but I don't see why you're claiming the infodump would be "interrupted".

To clarify: In every possible universe in the next few updates, we're spending an amount of time getting information about the current situation in IC real time (I don't know why you're going for 'half an hour', but whatever). Otherwise, we can't move without knowing we won't be doing anything dumb.

So you're saying it's easier to absorb information in this way. However, if we get Homura here in timestop after the fact, we can still present all the information in the same order?

If I understand your plan of action for this specific moment:

- Call Homura. If she comes over, infodump some.
- Either: Get Homura to hide somewhere and listen in; or have her appear out of thin air in front of the distressed Pleiades.
- Concentrate on Kazumi and co.. Find out what happened.
- Timestop again to talk over the new information.

I'd much rather:

- Concentrate on Kazumi and co.. Find out what happened.
- Call Homura. If she comes over, infodump.
- Tell her the conclusions of our questioning of Niko and the Pleiades.

... If Homura even timestops over. Hell, I don't see Homura going to Asunaro, so I don't think we need her over right now.

Can we pull people into timestop while still asleep and let them get their sleep, while encouraging Homura to go back to sleep as well?
Would probably require a nice ambient noise, and for there to not be an emergency going on, even if timestopped. Most people don't sleep on demand.

That is, unless Niko says she's fine and that there's no point rushing out right now.

Is there any reason not to transform immediately? Would help with social for the Pleiades by showing we're taking this seriously.
I don't know how transforming affects current mumicuddles.

I don't know everyone else, but I expect a short, question/answers packed update in which Mami finishes waking up, Sabrina takes some control of the situation while getting info at the same time.

Then break to voting to actually decide what to do once we know what's up.

It should take around two IC minutes.

This is called a "self-fulfilling prophecy".
We can ask. Probably at the same time we ask everyguca if they want to volunteer.

One way I see Homu joining the trip is if the Pleiades back at Asunaro already know, or find where the thief is; then it's a matter of timestop - gank - timestop back (basically). Hell, in such a case, I'd beg Homu to help.

Otherwise, it's 'Niko might make anti KB field' vs. 'Madoka'.

Homura canonically leaves Mitakihara for extended periods if she finds evidence that another city has info useful for dewitching - that's basically the plot of Magia Record.
I know, but I find that's different from current circumstances.

For one, we can probably handle it. We can probably push Homura to come with if we want to.

In fact, y'know what? I'm making a vote, right now.

Your eyes fly open, and you bolt upright on your bed, Mami making a startled noise.

"Sabrina? Mami?" Kazumi calls through the door.

"What is it?" you scramble out of bed, yanking the door open to a dishevelled, panicked looking Kazumi. Umika and Kaoru are just behind her, neither of them in any better state.

"Um- sorry to disturb you but apparently Niko was attacked," Kazumi babbles. "Uh, her lab was broken into, someone stole her things-"

[x] Wake all the way up, transform.
-[x] Inquire if Niko is alright, and if the thief is still there.
--[x] If the situation in Asunaro is still hot, contact Homura immediately.
--[x] Otherwise, get everyone calmed down and focused, and aquire information. Is anyone hurt? Does she know what was stolen and broken? When could the robbery have happened, and has this happened before?

[x] Kazumi is the leader of the Pleiades Saints, don't disrespect or undermine her authority with respect to that group. Agree to provide rapid transport to Asunaro for her, and offer Mitakihara's assistance.
-[x] If the Clear Seed was stolen, full battlestations. You need to make an example of how you'll respond to that sort of thing.
-[x] Either way, inform Homura, Mami, and Sayaka of what's going on once you yourself know it.

We're already standing at the bedroom door, so Mumihugs are thouroughly disrupted.

I'm not sure about these; We should determine who we need to wake up before we wake them up en-masse at 4AM, and we don't have the time to do power testing unless Homura picks her up in timestop on the way here.
I was suggesting that we ask Sayaka in case it's one of those things that she just knows about her power. That happens sometimes.

As for calling everybody, as much as Sayaka hates being woken up, she'd hate it even more if there was a call to action and we didn't include her.
