And the fact that they were misguided will matter a lot, since it's the entire reason we didn't kill or just rock them when we had the chance. Not giving her any reason other than "they're useful" is just going to be unsatisfying and make us sound like a sociopath.
"And we know next to nothing about it," you continue. "Her visions could be useful... But she and Kirika harming anybody is unacceptable."

"Why are you arguing for her?" Homura demands. "You have the information you wanted."

"Precognition is a... powerful asset, going forward," you say. "If we give her an outlet, let her feel she's doing her part... I think we can keep her under control. Under house arrest, maybe."
"Here and now, Oriko may have saved Kyouko," you say quietly, jerking your thumb over your shoulder, "I hate the way she did it. Oriko is smug, self righteous, and maybe even delusional. But she's trying to help, and thought she was saving people, including Madoka."

You frown. "We can use that, if nothing else. And if she's right about what's coming... Something new is coming, Homura. We might just need her power. We don't need to trust her to use her power."
Except that's the main reason why Sabrina kept her alive. It's because her precognition abilities were incredibly useful. While the main opinion of Oriko and Kirika may have shifted down the line, Sabrina's initial view of keeping Oriko alive was that they needed information and her abilities to help.

If we're going to be honest with Sayaka, then we shouldn't basically say, "Oh, I felt bad for them" or "I knew that she was misguided." It's that Sabrina basically put her foot down and said, "if you want any part in a future for the good of the world, then you are going to work with us".

That's what we told Homura. Another reason we kept them alive was because we knew from our thread knowledge that Oriko and Kirika weren't really bad people, and they didn't deserve to die. Also, if that is the only reason we really did it, we would be really really really stupid to tell Sayaka that- the reasoning would be completely lost on her since that's just not how she thinks. Appeals to emotion are the name of the game here.

[Q] "It's simple Sayaka...If I'd been in a good mood, I'd have killed them. They hurt my friends, though...and you can't break the dead."

...you know, if we want to scare the rage out of her.:V

Let's hope the legendary SV Social competency does not wreck this for us. This is yet another vote that can make or break our campaign.

Also, while we are on the topic of the appeal to emotions, we probably would have to make some inferences of what drives Sayaka's emotional state and triggers are right now. The most obvious candidates are the fact her parents were placed in mortal danger and her sense of justice. I get the feeling that the vote up right now fails to address the factor concerning her parents.... and may be insufficient to meet her definition of justice.

Seriously, we should have started from the beginning, recounted the entire tale of meeting Oriko, the extent we went to tracking her down, how we learned she was responsible for attacking Sayaka and how we learned Oriko was driven by her pre-cognitive abilities. And then explain to Sayaka why we choose to spare her life, presenting putting Oriko under house arrest as preferable to execution, and then explaining just how close Sayaka actually came to dying without the help of Oriko's visions.

I get the feeling our vote is way too vague, fails to get Sayaka to understand why we think the way we do and fails to tackle the issue of Sayaka's sense of justice. Above all, we need to convince Sayaka that putting Oriko on House Arrest, on a leash and showing mercy is far preferable to executing Oriko on the spot.... or carrying our threat to very slowly destroy Kirika. Our vote asserts these things, but it fails to explain why. And probably, the only way to explain why is to ask for Sayaka's patience, as we walk through the chain of events surrounding Oriko to try to get Sayaka to understand why we made the decision not to kill Oriko. And why this decision proved to be a good one so far.

Okay, let's take a shot at the horrors of SOCIAL.

[X] Telepathy Mami. She isn't going to hurt me. Please don't tie her up- it'll only make her more difficult to calm down.
[X] "They are under house arrest and will be killed, no reservations, if they step out of line. After interrogation under threat of eternal doom, which was not a hyperbole. They are not 'free' and are already quite punished."
[X] "She is arrogant and foolish, sure, but she is still human and she is trying to do good, however fucked up the results sometimes are. What would you rather have me do, kill her instead of giving her another chance?"
[X] Remind her that from the very beginning, your Wish was intended to help everybody, not only good girls.
[X] Use Sendai as an example of how you try your best to make peace instead of going on rampages, however easier those are. And that you always do your best to let everyone be the best person they can be instead of just finishing off everyone you don't like, however easier is the latter. Also, as an example of how Oriko can be good, useful and save lives - Sendai is not in ruins, after all.
[X] "And I was intending to tell you back when you where in hospital. Your parents were there, and...then, well, there were a lot of things on my mind. Oriko and Kirika could have proven unstable and I would finish them off, dealing with the whole problem. Still, not telling you earlier is indeed a grave and stupid mistake. I do apologize for this."

[jk] "If you had a choice between swiftly killing all who you consider bad people and painstakingly giving everyone another chance, would you really choose the former? Because I am damn happy you are not that strong and I can kill you any time I want if that's the case."

Trying to convince her that is was right, or at least not wrong decision. And apologize for not telling earlier, because that is a honest fuck-up.
If she will still be unreasonable...well, if Sayaka is going to care about vengeance more than about being reasonable person giving everyone another chance (ergo, even more murderface that Homura and not even feeling guilty about it), Sabrina has every reason to tell her to fuck off. And possibly restrain her.
Rehabilitation is right choice for much worse criminals than Oriko, after all, and Sayaka not agreeing with it is Sayaka's problem.

You could add the line 'do you want to kill her' in an extremely cold way in order to break her rage.
That would be a shock if someone you knew stated in that manner.

She'd be shocked for a second.

Then she'd just be angrier at the accusation that she'd even actually murder someone. Remember guys, Sayaka was high on Grief when she was going full JUSTICE mode.

I second adding the "If you were there, would you have wanted to kill her?". Brief pause of a few seconds. "I don't think you would have, and neither would I."

Already part of the third paragraph of the vote, putting her on spot too much will only cause her to go defensive. Not a kind of person who admits her mistakes in judgment.

You meet Sayaka's eyes. "She's also the one who burned your house down," you say. "That's wh-"

"What?!" Sayaka snarls. She storms forward, heedless of the glass, and grabs you by the front of her shirt. "She- she's the one- she nearly killed my parents and- you- you didn't tell me-"

She's all but shaking in anger.

[X] Hang there calmly. Place your hands over hers.
[X] In a calm and gentle tone, "I am telling you, Sayaka. I waited to do so because that idiot was trying to save your life from something she saw in the future. She's a precognitive, so knew we would be there to save your family. I waited because I wanted you to have some distance from it, because I didn't want you to charge off after them for revenge and either die or become a murderer. If she hadn't been trying to help you, stupidly misguided as she was, I would have killed her myself to spare you from that."

Mmmm, Sayaka isn't mad that Oriko wasn't punished, like some sort of justice bot.

She's mad we didn't tell her. It was something incredibly important to her life, and we kept it from her. That's a betrayal of trust.

[ ] Admit you were going to tell her at... but you were scared, and put it off. You were scared because the situation was under control and didn't want to upset that, and scared of what you did to stop Oriko.

[:V] Actually, you didn't feel like dealing with this while you were having fun meguca adventures with Mumi.

[X] "I'm telling you now. Things kept coming up, but... I won't make excuses. I should have told you sooner, and I apologize that I didn't."
-[X] When she insists on knowing the reasons we didn't tell her:
--[X] Deflate, look down. "Because I didn't want you to contract. The average life expectancy of a fresh magical girl is around a year at most. Being a magical girl means that you have to fight, constantly, just to maintain the resource that keep you alive."
---[X] "I'm trying to change that - I'm going to change that - but... it's something I thought I could keep you from. But that was wrong. You and Hitomi both deserved to know earlier, and I'm sorry that I kept it from you."

Has Grief Seeds are required for magical girls to live been established yet?
