Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Well @Kaiser Chris first of all, at this point in time Sierra specializes in Graphic/Conversational Adventures which doesn´t translate well to a gaming console, second $50 million to develop games is WAAAY too high "in exchange for producing games for the LucasArts console"...

For that price, I would rather buy them outright, or, alternatively, I would reduce the amount of money we are investing a lot ($5-$10 million would be more than enough) and I would keep them making adventure games for Apple (which is good because Bruce is the biggest stockholder)... As we can see with Gollum, Anthem, RedFall, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League... when the higher-ups force a videogame developer specialized in a certain genre to make a radically different style of game the results tend to be terrible...
Overmind has already created an omake where we have Sierra. This.

Okay, I changed it to networking and just a $10 million investment to help them stay solvent.

I would rather network and/or invest with someone else Like trying to get the rights for Tintin, or trying to buy a company that specializes in camera lenses

What are we thinking for our consoles by the way? Personally, I'm leaning away from going with traditional consoles and more towards a sort of mini-pc type design for our stuff, like Geekom, especially with our Apple connections.

If it isn´t broken don´t fix it, PCs in the 80s were expensive as fuck, and the main reason the videogame industry was able to grow in popularity through the decade was that home consoles were much more affordable...

No one will buy our mini-pc for $1200 when they can pick the SNES for $200...

I would go for something very much like the Sega Genesis BUT with the capability of saving your game...

Consoles are literally just computers that you can't upgrade the hardware of very much. It's really not that much of a departure, and as time goes on, the mini-pc approach will no doubt be far and away better than literally any of it's competitors in it's offerings.

In the end, that's not a console, but a Mini-PC as you say. Sorry, but I'm going to go with trying for the Genesis to be the basis for the console for now, perhaps with some additional capabilities before re work it into a Playstation.

Though I don't know if we'll have the capability to make Genesis, at the very least we should be able to do something similar to the NES.

I'm not talking about a first console, I'm talking long term. I'm not even sure a mini-pc like we have today would even be capable of being created at this point. Secondly, it's a console if you say it is (particularly if we design it with gaming as the primary function in mind along with the expanded functions that would be found in something like a mini-pc) and for all intents and purposes, it is one, it's just that it can also do more.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but when you say that our consoles in the future should be somewhat like a Mini-PC, to what are you referring? Because I don't want our consoles to look or have the hardware of computers, I want them to look and have the hardware of regular consoles, no matter how much memory or how advanced they are.

I'm referring primarily to the range of function that they have, although I wouldn't mind them being as compact as mini-PC's either. For example, Lucasarts OTL had it's own gaming engine that doubled as a programming language. I'd want people to be able to use it on our console, for instance. Here's the page on it. SCUMM - Wikipedia
Maybe even do other shit like play music or videos, sort of like a VLC-like feature or something along with other features.

Frankly, I'm kind of baffled by the line that I bolded in your post. You're saying that you deliberately want our product to have worse hardware... for what? To what end does this serve? Is it just because you think it wouldn't "really" be a console anymore if the hardware is better or it doesn't look like an XBox or something, because that seems silly to me.
Because I don't want our consoles to look or have the hardware of computers,
Mini-pc's don't look like computers. They're literally just small boxes. Here's a random picture I nabbed off Google.

Say guys remember that Sony bows has a reputation damage from being with the Yakuza in their top board ranks well I wonder how the United Artist are feeling since now they are associated with a criminal company that bought them that's not going to be well

I want Consoles to look like consoles, and PC's to look like PC's, and each to have their own niches instead of combining them. I can agree to Consoles having more meomry, more pixels, better sound, etc. But in the end, Consoles should remain as they are.

It may seem silly, and I can agree on that. Yet that's the kind of sillyness that also leads us to having our PC's in different shape and with different designs or colors because a better look helps them sell better.

But going back to the issue, I don't want to try and have consoles that alos have the capabilities to work like PC's or viceversa. That's what the 80s tried befro Nintendo went for the Console, and even if we have better technology now, it doesn't change that mixing them both is a bad idea in my opinion.

Not good I'm guessing. Unfortunately, they might have to suffer so that the rest of Hollywood does not.

I mean, more power to you I guess and I'm not gonna begrudge you too harshly for wanting it "just 'cause,"(*looks nervously towards Charlton*) but there's a reason why the real winner of the Console Wars is not Nintendo, but are PC's, and it's because they're just flat out better than everything else. Being able to do everything a traditional console can, being more easily upgradeable, and having infinitely more features and capabilities among the countless other reasons, it just seems impractical to me to stick with this path, but fuck it. We ball. I'll still advocate for the mini-pc approach, but we'll be fine either way.

Danke schön! I don't mind consoles having more meory, better graphics, music, or even the many upgrades they've had over the years. But, as I mentioned, it is my firm opinion that PC's should remain PC's and consoles be consoles.

Besides, we have our partnership with Apple to consider. Let them take on the computer market while we make sure to face off Nintendo in the Console Wars.

...Man, I'm actually feeling a bit excited for our future console.

Magoose replied in DMs for clarification that we do have a connection with them, but it remains to be seen if they will survive as a company, so I guess the 10 mil now would be a safety fund to help them stay solvent in the coming years.

If y'all think this is a waste and we're fine already, I guess I can do something else like try and see if there's another show we could get or some other business or personal opportunity.

Well it's your plan but I'm afraid they will pulll a Toho on us and defect after we bail them out. I think a better option is taking a networking action and contract a couple of games for us and if the partnership is good we can buy them out and incorporate them like we did with Sunrise. The profits should keep them afloat.

Dude, that is completely normal and quite common, in fact when the XBox one was presented as a multimedia hub instead of a videogame console, Microsoft lost lots of money...

Here is the thing, videogames consoles sharing the exact same hardware, and software, and being specialised in running videogames allows a degree of standarization that you can't have with a PC wich reduces significantly the cost of hardware production and game development...

So I think that at this stage the mini PC idea is terrible, no one is going to buy our awesome $600-1000 mini pc (ask that to 3D0 or Neo Geo) when you can buy the SNES for $200...

I am with @Nova_kaiser , I would rather avoid another Toho situation...

I would personally just buy them straight up and avoid future headaches...

I guess we could always try to loot Atari if we have nothing else to do. Granted my knowledge of the 80's video game scene is near nonexistent and there could be better opportunities. Why are we focusing on Sierra?

You're ignoring the fact that I already said I'm not talking about doing it right now, I'm talking about long term plans.
How much long term are you talk? because, realistically, the earliest we may be able to do something like what you are proposing is in the 2010s, and it is still not likely to work...

Why bothering with that when we have 30 years in which our gaming consoles will remain gaming consoles and our PCs will remain PCs

Atari is last gen. Sierra is next gen and has IP's which are good for its time.
They have a rather iconic name and logo, I wouldn't mind to spend a couple millions to buy them when they go bankrupt to get that from them...

With the current rate of advancement in tech with our rolls and investments, particularly with our connection to Apple and if we dedicate a couple of actions towards it, I think late 90s/early 2000s is more than feasible. Maybe even roughly the time of the OTL Playstation release in the mid 90s or the early 90s if we do particularly well.
