Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

I wonder how much will this affect our dependance on oil. I mean, onvolvement in the Middle East and the Arab countries happened because of the need to protrct the supply, so would this affect the history of the area?

On the other hand, buying it to keep it away from other could also be a strategic reason for the situation to remain as is.

Despite utilizing many other forms of energy, including nuclear, Europe still consumes a lot of oil and gas and gets it mostly from Russia and the Middle East. Not too much would change I imagine until fracking comes along, which meant that the US could extract much more oil domestically and became a net exporter. Only then did it really begin to wind down in the US.

The US also doesn't want to touch its domestic supply due to strategic reasons.

...so, if this is true, how close are we to having Arnold Schwarzenegger walk through our doors?

Not sure if that's a great idea. Arnold and Stallone apparently hated each other throughout the 80's and into the 90's. Arnie wanted to be the number 1 action star, and so made it his personal mission to one up Stallone.

So here Arnie might come after us if he doesn't go after Stallone.

You know the funny thing is, if we wanted to, we could be the action star of the 80s if we really wanted to.

I mean we have all the talent for it.

Make it The Big Three?

That'd take time away from hustling at Lucasfilms. We need it to be the biggest studio in Hollywood to spite everyone else.

Honestly it's tough to tell if there's a way to butterfly away their feud or have Bruce intervene. Apparently their first encounter was at the 1977 Golden Globes where Stallone was unimpressed at Arnold who was gloating that he was the Newcomer of the Year even though Stallone had a strong performance with Rocky. Arnold continued to gloat and make fun of him through a rough night for Rocky at the Globes, and Stallone threw a bowl of flowers at Arnold, starting the feud.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra9Y5QCKw5s&t=99s

Although the feud didn't heat up truly until the 80's when both actors got really mainstream and dominated the box office. Arnold kind of initiated this into a proper and lasting feud because he saw Stallone as an enemy who he needed to destroy to be at the top of Hollywood, fueled by insecurities from his father forcing him into an ultra competitive mindset and everyone believing he wasn't proper Hollywood for being an Austrian. Stallone saw Arnold as a threat to his career and felt that he was the only one who deserved to be THE action star and Arnold was taking that away from them. They engage in a lot of personal and petty stuff and then bury the hatchet at the start of the new millennium because both had kind of dried at the box office and the lack of competition made them realize that the feud was nonsense and they became friends.

Even if everything's fine at the Golden Globes, I think the feud potential is still there if Stallone is just as successful with Arnold going on his mission to dethrone him. Although, Arnold's target may switch to Bruce who is THE American icon and hottest star in Hollywood who actually knows Kung Fu and boxing and is going to star in sports, action and adventure movies and Arnold may feel the best way to prove himself is for him the Austrian to beat America's Actor. So I guess it just depends on if we have good relations with Arnold. If the feud does happen even if we aren't Arnold's target, we probably won't like him cause we'll have Stallone's back as his close friend.

You know the funny thing is, if we wanted to, we could be the action star of the 80s if we really wanted to.

Well we got a start with Han and are going to cement ourselves as the martial arts badass with Kung Fu Kid. Plenty of great crime and action stuff for the 80's, just need to pick the best pictures to insert Bruce in as well as creating some awesome stuff, hopefully create a John Wick like movie 30 years early.

That'd take time away from hustling at Lucasfilms. We need it to be the biggest studio in Hollywood to spite everyone else.

You forget that we can continue making it the biggest studio by starring in GOAT films that define their genres and smash box office records. Plus after Star Wars comes out, I'm pretty sure we are going to be the biggest in net worth at least off of Star Wars alone, if not a strong second under Universal.

What role are we playing in said movie again? Because I thought that we would be Producing or Directing it, not acting in it.

I don't think we'll be playing the kid, since we're too old for that, and as I have heard it mentioned many times now, we don't have the physical to look like one either.

I don't mind acting in as many movies that Lucasfilms produces, I just hope that we don't appear in every single one.

I want us to play the main lead Bobby. You say Bruce is too old, but this is Hollywood where actors in their 20s play teens all the time, hell the entire cast of Grease and the Breakfast Club, two of the most popular high school movies are full of actors in their 20s. I think Bruce still has it to pull off a teen look but it's a window that is closing. We can still call it Kung Fu Kid, just have Bruce play a protagonist whose in their junior or senior year of high school.

I was talking about Bruce having loads of potential with Lucasfilms, not that he has to star in every single one. There are obviously going to be movies that Bruce won't be a fit for even if they are really famous and there's a good deal of movies probably better with their OG actors.

Well, yeah, but I thought we were trying to be more realistic than that. PLus, Bruce has the bosy of someone who's trained for Heavyweight boxing so I figure having him play the underdog is just not going to cut it. Heck, if anything I'd think he would fit more for the role of Kyle (the racist antagonist teacher) to better display his range; Bruce is someone who would never in his life act the way Kyle does, so it would be a challenge.

Yeah, I get you. And agree as well.

1976 Clean Atomic Recycling and Energy Act
Sorry for not saying things, but I was busy.

[]So Energy is the Big Debate? (You have accidentally made Energy and Nuclear Power the top issue in the Election)
[]Gaylord is the Real Master of the Senate (Gaylord has gotten his votes in the Senate, and trying to strong arm in the House)
[]Once Upon a Time in Iran (Meanwhile in Iran... Someone started throwing Bombs.)
Although, Arnold's target may switch to Bruce who is THE American icon and hottest star in Hollywood who actually knows Kung Fu and boxing and is going to star in sports, action and adventure movies and Arnold may feel the best way to prove himself is for him the Austrian to beat America's Actor.
The Thing about Bruce that might make Arnold hate him, or at least view him as a Rival... Is the simple fact that Bruce has achived all the success without the true hard work and Grit that Arnold went through.

Which is true, Bruce crahsed with Clint for awhile, got a role in Fist of Fury, then got into MASH by pure dumb luck and the rest is history.

Bruce is luck and talent and timing.

arnold is the absolute sheer force of will... making up for some of Arnies Weaknesses.

And that is honestly a very compelling rivalry.

Though he might have a hard time Out American Bruce when he becomes a citizen.

Cause Bruce is almost quniticentually American.
So I guess it just depends on if we have good relations with Arnold. If the feud does happen even if we aren't Arnold's target, we probably won't like him cause we'll have Stallone's back as his close friend.
Yeah, but the problem here is, Sly is now almost firmly in our Camp and may be working with us for the rest of his career.

Now that is something that might be fun...

I don't think we can even do John Wick without an NC-17 raiting in the 80's...

What we would be doing is not campy action but stuff people could learn and mimick... like in Heat.
You forget that we can continue making it the biggest studio by starring in GOAT films that define their genres and smash box office records. Universal *Begins to Sweat when they hear more good news about this... STAR WARS*

Meanwhile with Universal people: "WHAT THE FUCK IS STAR WARS!?"
Well, yeah, but I thought we were trying to be more realistic than that. I think that might be good too... though that is just me, as Bruce is slowly getting older.

-[X] "In the grand scheme of things, I wasn't thinking, I was living. I was living a pretty good life, the kind where I was lucky enough, and talented enough, to follow my dreams, and when my friend [George Lucas] approached me with his, I was in a position to help, so that's what I chose to do. All that, to walk in the sun with my friends, because George's vision was that bright."
-[X] "Well so far Star Wars is tied with Five Dates for my favorite production I've worked on and I think when all is said and done Star Wars is going to be my favorite movie and one of if not the greatest in history, an opinion I think a lot of people will share too. Every day from the start of pre-production to our ongoing post-production journey has been an incredible experience and I'm so blessed and thankful to George that he chose to let me be a part of this adventure. Every single aspect and minute detail lined up to make the best film we could possibly make, and at several times the cast and crew went beyond what I thought possible to give us perfection. Every single cast member went above and beyond the script, becoming one with their characters and giving some of the best performances I've seen. The crew worked brilliantly each day to give us the tools and stage we needed to tell the greatest story ever told. ILM is making the impossible possible and working magic with their special effects, in some cases literally making new technology to show a galaxy, far, far away. Plus all of this was thanks to the brilliant mind of George Lucas, a man who I promise is going to go down in history as a visionary and one of the greats, creating a grand adventure that is both timeless and and revolutionary as a story, the tale of a band of heroes taking a stand against evil in a galaxy far, far away. Ultimately, there is one aspect of working on Star Wars that is always going to be my favorite, that being it was my first film I got to work together with Carrie, and right after we got married. Growing up, my Dad always told me and my siblings to do what we loved for a living, and almost every day for filming I got to do what I love with the woman I love. It's just incredible to see Carrie in action and create a work of art with her, and after two movies I'm looking forward to making as many with Carrie as we can. I love her and I'm so happy and grateful to be her husband."
-[X] "There are some days where the business can be frustrating and our competition does its best to make sure the odds are stacked as you say, but from the moment Lucasfilms was created we saw the film industry as a challenge to face head on and have fully embraced the difficulty of planting our foot in the door. We may not have the experience, film library or institutional strength of our competitors; but what we do have is a pool of the most talented men and women in Hollywood from top to bottom, all of whom filled with the drive, passion and vision to more than match any of the established titans. While most movies are trying to chase trends and simple profits, we're always looking to innovate and create art as the first or best of the stories told. Lucasfilms maybe fighting a battle of David and Goliath, but never once have we been scared and each day we embrace every challenge thrown at us. I like to think that because of such we always manage to push ourselves to the finish line and create the best movies possible."

Got to see a world unseen by all but George slowly build itself out of the blue...hell, one of our guys gave us a taste of the future when he accidentally built one of those new sand batteries some of you've seen floating around. But it was nerve wracking to be in charge of something like this, a grand experiment between all of us."
[X] "Easy answer, we're cocky. Long answer, we've seen what each of us can do when we put our nose to the grindstone, and decided that we can stand stronger together. If we're afraid of what's coming our way, it's only because if we didn't, we couldn't guard against it the right way, and couldn't rise to the challenge."

And We Give Some damn Good Answers Turn 45 (April 1976)

"What would you describe your thought process, in deciding to start a whole distribution studio, when you were hardly a shoe in for a household name at MASH?"

Johnny was serious when he said that, but you almost busted out laughing. It was fun, and honestly, something incredibly funny to think about now.

"Well to tell you the truth I didn't want to pay income taxes anymore."

That earned a laugh from everyone, even Johnny didn't expect to let out a chuckle. "But really though, In the grand scheme of things, I wasn't thinking, I was living. I was living a pretty good life, the kind where I was lucky enough and talented enough, to follow my dreams, and when my friend [George Lucas] approached me with his, I was in a position to help, so that's what I chose to do. All that, to walk in the sun with my friends, because George's vision was that bright."

There was a large round of applause that release of information you gave and you could find yourself coming around to it, taking in the whole damn audience. "You have a lot of faith in your friend George Lucas, even when his reputation around Hollywood isn't the most stellar, according to my insiders, they say he's hard to work with."

"No he's not, you need better insiders, Johnny, let me tell you, he's great to work with, incredible even, with a vision few in this town can even match. At least that I've had the pleasure to work with."

That made Johnny Smile. "Speaking of vision, We have been hearing a lotta buzz around a film called Star Wars, where you are one of the big characters, uh, could you tell us a little bit about it? On the production side, I mean."

"Careful Johnny, I have an NDA about talking about what the film is about when it isn't revealed in the Trailer?"

That earned a laugh from everyone again, as you relaxed. "Sorry, bad joke." You took a breath and took a moment to think of your answer. "Well so far Star Wars is tied with Five Dates for my favorite production I've worked on and I think when all is said and done Star Wars is going to be my favorite movie and one of if not the greatest in history, an opinion I think a lot of people will share too. When you finished, there was almost deafening silence, before there was a thundering applause from the audience.

Johnny then let a wave of his hand. "And we'll be back after this quick break."

The light turned and you looked at Johnny, hands shaking. "Damn kid, never expected that kinda answer from you. Who prepped you?"

"Experience, and avoiding all the media that I don't like?" You replied as you smiled.

"Well, I'll tell you what, I think you got all of America watching you now, and I have one question that will make everyone quiver in their boots if you don't mind me asking it?"

"Is it going to be about me and Carrie's Sex life?"

"What, hell no, what would make you think that?" He said, disgusted at the thought. "We're on television for Christ's sake, not some dishrag that prints what passes for porn!"

"Sorry, bad experience." You stated.

Johnny smiled. "Well, this will be a good one." The Light turned off and Johnny looked back at the crowd and TV cameras. "And welcome back everyone, we have one last question for Mister O'Brian before he must sally on back to his home." He turned to you. "Are you Scared of other companies who are… seeing this upstart crew building and want to fight you, what with uh, a few names like Spielberg, for instance, turning down a huge 3 picture deal with close to 10 million dollars in salary guaranteed to work with your company… what makes you so certain you will succeed against such odds when they are stacked against you?"

That made you smile. Damn, he was willing to go that far?

You almost walked away… But instead you just… took a breath. And gave an answer. "There are some days where the business can be frustrating and our competition does its best to make sure the odds are stacked as you say, but from the moment Lucasfilms was created we saw the film industry as a challenge to face head-on and have fully embraced the difficulty of planting our foot in the door. "And that's all from Bruce O'Brian… Goodnight."

How does this affect the number of actions we have available to us this turn? Does it remain at 8 for this turn or has it been slightly increased to reflect the greater amount of time passing within this one turn?

Well, aside from the options given, we still need to meet Christopher Tolkien and I still want us to meet Frank Herbert before Star Wars is released, if only to avoid the future feud that might dvelope because his son can't see the difference between his work and George's.

Aside from that, we need to take the option with Mike. For all that I didn't want him to work for us, I have to admit he has done more than right by us and he deserves a larger piece of the pie. Not control or wonership of the company though!

Also, a suggestion for distribution this turn: Zatoichi. Let's introduce the blind swordsman to America, and hopefully get another franchise starting, especially since the Godzilla and the Lone Wolf and Cub films are about to end.

All good suggestions. I was initially going to push back against the Frank Herbert action, considering I see it as generally unnecessary unless we decide to make Dune(which is something I don't care about or really want to do), especially considering that the feud did nothing OTL and so I didn't see that as any issue, but then I thought about it and want to go for it to avoid Magoose being cheeky and rolling for whether or not it causes an actual scandal here. I'd also like to suggest an O'Reily Foundation action, as it feels as though we haven't done anything with it in some time and I think it can use another infusion of cash.

[X] Plan Rocky Road
-[X]Rocky: So Sly got his Summer Release, at the End of May. A tough Crowd. But you were honestly just happy it got out, and now he can reap the reward. DC: ???
-[X]The First Cut of Star Wars: George finally has his first truly complete cut of Star Wars. DC: 0/???
-[X]Mike's Milestone: Mike needs to talk to you about his payment… and the need to see it grow larger with all the work he's done for you. DC:???
-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X] Submersion of Japan. The Tale of Zatoichi.
-[X]Olympic Training: It's time to get serious about training to win a gold. You really need to back up your documentary that made everyone else out to be winners. DC: ???
-[X]Game Shows: You want to go on a Game show, you are sure that Lucille might get you in on one of them. DC: 40
-[X]A Well-Known Fan: So some really famous person is a fan of yours. Maybe you'll learn who they actually are. DC???
-[X] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC: 15 (Write-in what you want to learn about below)
--[X] Learn Singing
-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Christopher Tolkein. Ask if he has any requests for Lucasfilm adaptations of the Legendarium and how you can best honor his late father.
-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Frank Herbert.

Okay so the first three actions of Lucasfilms are a must. Ensure Rocky gets a great release, see the first cut of the greatest film ever made, and give Mike his just payment for all the incredible work he's done.

For distributing deals, doing Zatoichi as Overmind suggested so we can branch into Japanese films beyond Toho and see if America is really in the mood for Samurai movies or just Lone Wolf. Also since we're doing a three month turn, I think we should have a film for every month and try our first double release with Submersion of Japan. Pretty decent disaster movie about Japan sinking, keeps Toho happy as it is one of their best and it won't draw people away from Rocky.

Continue Olympic Training for the final stretch and do Game Shows so Bruce has something fun he can do and is still in the public eye.

Do well known fan because it's been going incredible for us so far and I'm excited to see who's next.

Learn singing to make up for last turn's failure and hopefully sing with Carrie one day. I would like to learn what she's cooking, but she was stubborn about keeping it a secret last turn and we should honor her wishes.

Network with Christopher Tolkein so we can get work on Lord of the Rings movies and sort out any potential troubles with the Tolkein estate.

I for one don't really care if Lucasfilms does a Dune movie and the "Star Wars copy Dune" thing was kind of nothing OTL, but I guess since we're networking with Tolkein we might as well include another author in the list and George would probably be happy to have his studio adapt Dune.

Actually, I think Toho owns the Zatoichi films and rights since Daiei Films studio went bankrupt in 1971 and had to sell nearly everything, including their rights to Gamera (which I think Toho acquired as well).
