Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

-[X]Rocky: So Sly got his Summer Release, at the End of May. A tough Crowd. But you were honestly just happy it got out, and now he can reap the reward. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 20 => 93

To think that you never saw Sly this happy before, with the thunderous applause at the Chinese Theater.

His dream had come true and… oh god is he crying?

Well considering how it's all going right now. You weren't surprised.

And then you heard the numbers all over California. And the US…

It had Lines that Made JAWS blush. All to see a movie about a man getting a one-and-a-million shot.

(Continued in Rocky)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The First Cut of Star Wars: George finally has his first truly complete cut of Star Wars. DC: 0/??? Rolled:D100 => 71

Film Quality:D100 + 450 => 495

You had requested George to show the Short, Marcia laddened cut of the film, which was honestly the best choice, because no one had time to sit through a three-hour-long film when the Bathrooms were being repaired.

Thankfully, it was, well not long, but also not a brisk 90-minute feature either. It was everything you hoped for, George, at the Master and height of his talents while everyone was shown to be brilliant, and incredible.

You honestly just couldn't expect anything else.

It was filmic perfection.

You honestly thought it was the greatest film of all time.

And that was without a doubt, going to make everyone a shit load of money.

You also knew of one of the Interns that was obviously a Universal Plant… You knew it, Mike knew it, hell even George knew it. But you let him stay. Let him see it. Report it to his bosses.

And the funny part was, after he begged Mike for leniency, he just said to cut ties to Universal, and he started work the next morning.

Mike wanted Universal to know how good the film was. Let them spend time, money, and resources trying to find a Star Wars Rival.

Let them waste money.

Reward: The first cut, has almost no flaws, save for its length and the effects looking a little wonky as it was rough cut on the effects, they will be done next month.

Mike also made sure to get a plant to tell the studios about how damn good the film was.

You were just happy it was awesome.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had really nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X] Submersion of Japan. The Tale of Zatoichi. Rolled:D100 => 7+20=27

Mike actually went out of his way to veto this film's release until After Rocky had a few months under its belt. Not out of any malice, but because Toho would find that they would not be making any money.

You couldn't fault him for it, as Rocky was literally trying to break records that only Jaws and Some Nights had, considering its opening night.

Failure: Will be released next turn.
--------------------------------------------------

-[X]Olympic Training: It's time to get serious about training to win a gold. You really need to back up your documentary that made everyone else out to be winners. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 30 => 126

You were an adonis, and honestly, you could probably fight in the Heavy Weight and win.

That's how strong you felt. That's how strong you looked. And that was how strong everyone knew you were.

Reward: You are now sitting at +100 to your boxing Rolls for the Olmypics, in addition to other bonuses.
----------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Game Shows: You want to go on a Game show, you are sure that Lucille might get you in on one of them. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 13+10=23

You were honestly too busy to try and find out… well anything that you could attend in any reasonable amount of time.

Failure.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]A Well-Known Fan: So some really famous person is a fan of yours. Maybe you'll learn who they actually are. DC??? Rolled:D100 => 8

No Fanmail… That's just… okay.

Failure.
----------------------------------------------------

-[X] Research stuff, see if anything piques your interest: You may have graduated High School as a kid, but you never stopped trying to learn. DC: 15 (Write-in what you want to learn about below)
--[X] Learn Singing Rolled:D100 => 2+10=12

It was funny that you tried.

But you just didn't want to learn how to sing, because it sounded like a horse.

And all of Carrie's Attempts were in vain, as you just hid.

Failure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Christopher Tolkein. Ask if he has any requests for Lucasfilm adaptations of the Legendarium and how you can best honor his late father. Rolled:D100 => 99

It was a long plane ride to the UK, and you were being as respectful as you could when you entered the property line of the Tolkien estate. You had hoped that he was expecting you in a manner that was, not angered.

Yet you were very happy to see him at the door when you answered, and he looked up and down at you. "I thought I was meeting with… Eisner was his name?"

"He had other commitments." You replied as you looked at the opening. "May I come in?"

He nodded and you were led inside to the sitting room before you looked at his home. It was comfortable, homely, and well-lived in. As you sat down, he offered you tea. "No thank you, never liked Tea."

"Should have expected that." He replied as he sat down. "I read your letter, and was honestly surprised that you came personally to answer it when I responded."

You shrugged your shoulders. "I love books, and making art is something I do. But when it comes to dealing with the estates, I always like to make sure that I and my company do things right."

"Right?"

"Trying to translate a book to screen is always a difficult process. I should know, I have a few scripts based on Conan that were written, and they had to change a few things just to make them filmable. Because there is a difference between mediums that can either be incredible or be disastrous."

Christopher nodded. "It's why I was very hesitant to see my father's work sold like cattle. I don't think anyone in the world can match my father's vision."

You nodded. "But how would we know, if we don't try?"

"I don't believe you can honor my father's work, instead just make it a cheap knock off, a simple film that has an audience to make money, thats how all of the film people are like."

You sighed. "Then I'll give you a wager Mister Tolkien. If we are both still alive, when I or others make the films, we do everything we can to make it as close to your father's vision, and even bring you onto the production if we have to."

"Films?" He asked.

"It's a trilogy, Mister Tolkien. Why would we ever do anything as stupid as try and remove things from the books to tell a story, and take away from your father's vision."

It was a long time before he spoke again, maybe an hour of you just awkwardly sitting in his sitting room. "I'll give you my blessing. But I will be a part of this, at a capacity that I deem fit."

"I expected nothing less."

Reward: You and Christopher have reached an understanding and agreement. He wants the films to be as accurate to his father's vision as possible. And may even join the production as a member of the staff in some capacity.

-[X]Networking: Well time to start finding out who might actually be interested in meeting you. (Write-in what you want to try and network with)
--[X] Frank Herbert. Rolled:D100 => 17

Frank Herbert did not want to talk to you. That was not the reason however… why.

He was trying to work on his next Novel and he decided that he wanted total… lack of interruptions as he does it.

Failure. He does not want to talk right now as he's writing.

———————

-[X]Mike's Milestone: Mike needs to talk to you about his payment… and the need to see it grow larger with all the work he's done for you. DC:??? Rolled:D100 => 59

Mike was staring both you down like a hawk.

"So… let's work something out that we can all agree upon."

(Continued in: Mikes Milestone)

An: Enjoy and oh boy this will be good

PHew. At least we didn't screw up with Frank Herbert.

And with the blessing of Christopher Tolkien added in, I'm mostly happy with what we've gotten.

Though, I find it amusing that we keep failing rolls related to music.

Feels like a turn where both lots of things happened and nothing happened.
At least Rocky is going to be great. And LOTR got the green light.

I'm still not sure if +100 is good enough to win Olympic gold.

There is another bonus that you have that I'm keeping secret…

But Bruce has a reputation around the boxing world that makes him unique.

And the athletic trait as well

Reward: Beware the Cyberpunk: Mike Pondsmith has began his Odessey around the game world of pen and Paper design companies, as his first game has published but he finds himself creatively unfulfilled.

In 1980 you may hire him for your game development.

Was not expecting...that. Holy cow. So many...opportunities.
Reward: The first cut, has almost no flaws, save for its length and the effects looking a little wonky as it was rough cut on the effects, they will be done next month.
Daywmn. We got the 1985 graphics in here.
Reward: You are now sitting at +100 to your boxing Rolls for the Olmypics, in addition to other bonuses.
"Carrie, you here for the gun show?"

"Oh no, honey. I'm here to make the Fat Lady sing."

*Bruce Self-Defenestrates Through Open Window*
But you just didn't want to learn how to sing, because it sounded like a horse.

And all of Carrie's Attempts were in vain, as you just hid.
...Bruce is in danger, ain't he?

However this ends, Carrie's gonna make him sing the National Anthem when he wins.
Reward: You and Christopher have reached an understanding and agreement. He wants the films to be as accurate to his father's vision as possible. And may even join the production as a member of the staff in some capacity.
No words happy.
Failure. He does not want to talk right now as he's writing.

"So… let's work something out that we can all agree upon."

Gotta keep him happy, but that roll don't give us a lotta leeway.

Hey, @Magoose, could you do me a huge favor? Could you change the intern who is mentioned as being a plant for Universal from a male to a female? For my pitches, I was intending to introduce a new original character as the writer, like how Orion and Duke sometimes attributed their pitches to other characters besides Bruce, and I was going to start out the Undertale pitch with an Omake about this new character and she was going to be a low level employee at Lucasfilm who was miserable in her life being unable to pursue her passion and managed to get a lucky opportunity to present her script to leadership despite it being inappropriate the ways she went about it but she just wanted to go forward without regrets and that's how the script gets added to the Lucasfilm repertoire. There's more to it than that obviously, but that's all that is strictly relevant at the moment. But if you could change the intern to be a female, then that would give me a really good opportunity to introduce her and some fun things to work into her background and the Omake. You obviously don't have to do it, but it would be greatly appreciated.

NGL that's kinda insulting
I mean....is he really all that wrong? I don't think so, at least. It's obviously an overgeneralization, but it's an impression that exists for a reason. And besides, it's his dad's life's work, of course he's going to be protective of it. He also doesn't really know us, so it's not surprising he wouldn't see us as any different.

Will do

When is the Olympics going to start anyways?
The Olympics are in Montreal/Toronto and they begin July 17th and end August 1st.
So they're next turn.

Also wow, looking at the stuff for 1976 Olympic boxing and the commies win a ton of medals. If the US isn't winning something, then it's either the Soviet Union, Cuba, Romania, Poland, or East Germany winning it.
It's telling that, while the US was #1 in gold medals and #2 in most medals (for boxing), positions #2-8 are all communist countries.
Everyone was probably juicing a ton back then.

True enough but the fact that we're meeting him so that we can discuss the film should've shown we are at the least somewhat serious about it

Huh, five massive successes and five mediocre to bad failures

Well at least above all else Rocky got the opening it deserved and seems to be a far more massive and grander success than OTL, giving the franchise a beautiful start and making Stallone a loyal friend and devoted member of Lucasfilms. Also George cements Star Wars as the best movie of all time and has Universal shitting its pants.

Great to see Bruce the Goose become a full Olympian and the dude is probably not even close to his prime yet. Let's go for gold. Also, is Bruce the flag bearer for the opening ceremony? I feel if there's anyone who deserves it it's him. Fun fact, the 1976 US Boxing Team is often considered the best Olympics boxing team they had, and it's got Bruce as their star on the lineup.

It was funny that you tried.

But you just didn't want to learn how to sing, because it sounded like a horse.

And all of Carrie's Attempts were in vain, as you just hid.

Failure.

Poor Bruce, my man just wants to sing with his beloved wife but he sounds absolutely miserable. We should probably wait until after the Olymics and Carrie's done with her album to try again so she can coach us and we get a Carrie bonus.

NGL that's kinda insulting

Christopher is just being careful with his dad's legacy and considering how much Hollywood has been unmasked for the past couple years as a horrendous shitshow then he's got good reason to be worried. Plus he literally has no impression about Bruce beyond just being an ambitious entreprenuer and trouble maker. Plenty of opportunities to grow closer with him and show we're genuine about adapting the books faithfully, especially with a showing of how good a person we are and us having a similar level of devotion to faith as Tolkein who himself was a devout Catholic. Plus after Christopher sees Rocky and Star Wars he'll gain some faith that his dad's work is in the right hands.

In the 1980s, following a rise in violence initiated by the Cartels in Central America that eventually spills over onto American soil (an event that rumors have said was instigated by a joint ATF and CIA operation), the United States becomes embroiled in the major conflict
Is it wrong that it fits the Cyberpunk universe more then other stuff?
Is it bad that I only now realized that we can use Tijuana Takedown as an instigating event for Cyberpunk?
Basically an alternate history take on the War on Terror, but one told through a Retro-Future lense of the 70s and 80s, that originally was supposed to be an alternate take on Red Dawn that made more sense, but it got away from me.
Because I only just now realized it.

Is it too late to have it changed to a R. Talsorian Cyberpunk Story?

On A Hot Summer Night
On A Hot Summer Night: by Bruce O'Brien [ Pyschothriller (Qu'est-ce que c'est?) / Horror ]

Tagline:
Would you offer your throat to the Wolf with the red roses?

[EDIT: Dedication:
To the memory of Sister Brigid of Queens, who I knew as Sally Flaherty.]

Opening:
It was a hot summer night and the air was thick with humidity. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the deserted streets. As the clock struck midnight, a haunting tune started to play. It seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at once.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in the distance, swaying to the beat of the music. As it got closer, it became clear that there was something not quite right about this person. Their movements were jerky and unnatural, and their face was twisted into a grotesque mask of pain.

The figure continued to approach, the music growing louder and more intense with each step. It was as if the song was controlling them, making them dance and move against their will.

As the figure finally reached the protagonist, the girl with the red hood, they let out a bloodcurdling scream, their body contorting in an impossible way, their form exploding into that of a statuesque wolf. The music reached a crescendo, and the protagonist realized that they were now trapped in a nightmare from which they could not wake up.

For hours, they danced and twisted in the oppressive heat, unable to escape the hypnotic power of the song, even hunted as they were by the wolf. Sweat poured down their face, and their limbs ached with exhaustion. As the sun began to rise, the music finally stopped, and the figure disappeared into the shadows.

The protagonist stumbled home, dazed and confused, unsure if what they had just experienced was real or just a terrible dream. But they knew one thing for sure: they would never forget that Blood Moon, and the horror that it had brought to their life.

Synopsis:
When the girl with the red hood wakes the next morning, dazed and confused from the dream, she starts her day by pulling a piece of "jerky" from between her teeth before tackling her day to day. With the rise and fall of each day, her fears about the wolf gradually escalate, even as her friends and family draw closer to her, giving her a sense of belonging...and closure as by the end of the movie the audience realizes the Wolf that she is hunted by is Death, the Moon her diagnosis, and her battling the Wolf an allegory for her battle with Cancer, with even the Epilogue shows her entering the hospital with Wolf Eyes showing her acceptance of her own mortality, in a rather bittersweet fashion.

A/N: Partially inspired by the Dancing Plague, but mostly an unholy reminder of Meatloaf's 'Hot Summer Night' as I watched a Blood Moon rise in the new Zelda game. Was torn on whether or not it'd be part of the LOZ cartoon, but then I decided it'd be its own thing [EDIT: when I realized it could be Bruce's way of letting go of the regrets he had over Sally's death].
