On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

- [x] The Rune Metal Pt. 2b: [Cost: (14 -7) =7 actions] Journeyman of the Odd and Soul of the Earth will proc. You can and now have done it, made Gromril chain and chainmaille. It required extremely unique circumstances and felt more a fluke than true success to you. No, you will not be satisfied unless you can create something any hypothetical Runesmith could do. Beyond that? Who knows? 4 actions
- [x] Lost and Found: Gain 50 Favour +? With the Cult of Gazul. Many a Dawi lie lost, their bodies unrecovered in the distant snows of the Far North. It is a grim reality of the harshness of the land, and one that cannot be ignored. The Cult of Gazul is sending an expedition of Priests out to search for these lost sons and daughters and either bring their earthly remains home or have their last rites seen to where they lie. Dark work, but necessary work according to the Cult, and who is to deny them? Depending on the success of the expedition it may or may not become something more common rather than a one-off excursion because they have many more priests and apprentices than they know what to do with. 1 retainer action
- [x] Dumaraz: Gain Random Monster Mats, 10 Favour with Kraka Ravnsvake. In preparation for King Sindri's grand ambition, he has called for a great culling of the beasts that would lurk and prey on the work crews tasked with rendering the Dumaraz more easily navigable. The King has even offered any would-be hunters the chance to lay claim to the beasts killed in their work. 1 retainer action
- [x] An Alchemical Almanac or Four: [Cost: 3 actions and/or retainer actions] Gain an understanding of Alchemy. Rewards locked until Eltharin learned or texts translated. Scour the markets of Ravnsvake, look for any bookstore or merchant with Elven connections. Before anything can be done you need to understand just how Alchemy works on a metaphysical level. Getting the books themselves will be the quick but incredibly difficult part, actually learning and understanding the knowledge within will take far longer. Both are still difficult of course.
-- [x] Comprehensive Knowledge: [Cost: +3 actions and/or retainer actions and 20 Favour from Kraka Ravnsvake] Gain Specialty: Alchemy. One book is not enough. Get as many books on the subject as you can find, and make it clear that there's a Dawi with significant monetary backing looking for this information to the right people.
-- [x] All of it, ALL OF IT: [Cost: +2 actions and or retainer actions and 20 Favour from Kraka Ravnsvake] Requires Comprehensive Knowledge. Gain Specialty: Alchemy (Exceptional). Make it a long term issue, every book that gets made from this point on and finds its way here, you want, no, need to have.
-- [x] Local Knowledge: [Cost: 10 Favour from Kraka Ravnsvake] Gain 1 progress. Can be taken multiple times and without actions. Use what leverage you have, and get those with the capability to reveal their choicest goods. 80 Favor.
- [x] [Simple] Grave Wardens: [Cost: 12 actions] Due end of Turn 42. Productivity like No Other will proc. Gain 70 Favour and 1 Standing with the Cult of Gazul. Snorri thinks another patron might be found by the end of turn 37. Just as the Cult of Valaya has the inkling of a great colonization wave, the other Ancestor Cults have also taken notice. The local Cult of Gazul has come to you for the same reason the Cult of Valaya has, to arm their most senior members with the kind of equipment befitting their station, both current and for those future Dawi who may take up this most sacred of duties.

Igna may be better than Snorri when it comes to armor but Snorri is far more suited to to a large scale commission like this and as I said earlier our Gromril Chain will be of immense benefit to Gazul Cultists as they prefer light armor. Igna is also busy with the founding of a hold and wouldn't have the time for it anyway.
The hold would be done by then and taking an extra decade or two is not a big deal in dwarf time. And that's just one option. We're also about to share gromril chain with runesmiths so they're just getting chain a few centuries earlier than usual.

I like flexing on the beardlings as much as the next guy, but given it's a Simple Request there isnt much reason for Snorri to do it.

Now if it were a Difficult one I'd have some ideas, but as things stand theres genuinely little that Snorri specifically can bring to the table outside of his ridiculous wealth of resources and ability to create such a huge working...which would be a matter of course for literally any Runelord stuck with making the thing.

At most itd be imparted with Snorris crafting traits, but that wouldn't be anything particularly unique to Snorri. Theres just little mechanical or narrative benefit to hogging in on the Gates.

Otoh, it's a perfect opportunity for another Runelord to really stretch their wings outside of Snorris rather huge shadow in the Far North.

Cant say I now enough about the elves to really commit to any specific option. Though I figure that getting some idea as to there history may give us insight into the people as a whole more than anything else.

Our role in founding the hold would be done by the due date. Another Runesmith would be found by turn 37 when the hold Founding is still very much in full swing.

We're also not going to just hand out our method of making Gromril Chain, the ones we show will still need to pay for it like any other bit of Runelore and show they're worthy of it in the first place before Snorri even considers it.

The due date for the gate is the end of turn 38 the hold founding doesn't end until the end of turn 40 so the hold founding isn't finished until after the gate is.

[ ] Retainer Reconfiguring: [Cost: 1 retainer action] Can be taken once every variable number of turns. Change some aspect of your retainers. The Hearth Guard are a fine force of Dawi, but much like the defences of a Karak, there is potentially more to be done. It will take some time for these steadfast retainers of yours to adjust to whatever changes you make, but the length of it definitely correlates to the number of changes you want done.
- [ ] Change Numbers: [Cost: +1 turn until change] +1/-1 retainer action per every 60 retainers added/removed. Increasing or decreasing the number of Retainers you wish to take on permanently. It signals that you either require more or less of their services. While you will not remove retainers currently services if you wish to downsize, it means you simply will not replace them in the event one of your loyal followers falls in the line of duty or simply to the vagaries of time.
I missed the update and debate until now, but how come there's no love for further increasing the size of the Hearthguard?
The nuance is what you're gonna be having those guys doing. If they do nothing, it's wasteful, but if you're using them the way you have been Snorri reckons no one is gonna be too upset. It will likely stay that way as long as you don't infringe on the rights of Kings or powerful lords or what have you, and keep the Hearth Guard to being what is essentially Snorri's personal beatstick when in times of war but are otherwise roaming the North doing good deeds and helping the average Dwarf.

Look, if you keep them to the spirit of their founding purpose you can get away with a lot, in the Far North at least. That's a consequence/benefit of your high Standing in the region. Maybe. Snorri thinks that at least.

By his reckoning 300 is fine, as long as they're always out doing something. Going above that is gonna say something, but what that entails is on you to make clear through your actions.
Who knows, you may get other options if their numbers increase higher.
It's already been confirmed that we can go up to 300 without anyone raising eyebrows as long as we have them out there and actively doing things to help their fellow dwarfs, so why don't we?

It's best started sooner rather than later so the recruitment can passively continue in the background.

Yah I too want to raise number simply cause more allow us to help more people but people don't want too, just got to hope people change their minds

She can plan ahead by 50 years just like we did man. Kraka Drak's founding took like 6-8 turns for Snorri to do his bits though it did start later in the process than the new hold so I guess the timeline might not add up. They certainly have more runesmiths working on it than we did though. The chain will disseminate eventually, as fast as we're allowed to if given a choice so they'd get the upgrade eventually. Probably soon to since these are for the elite.
