On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Wait so we could technically get a Master Rune of the Mountain Souled in 2 turns?....Great now i kinda wished we had. Then would have slapped that baby on top of those Sea Gates.

Oh well, maybe we could get it in time for the gate sof the Karak we are heeling with? Wouldn't that be a nice cap achievement.
You would need to compress Mountainsouled into one Rune first, but yes in that instance it would be doable in just 2 turns.

Let's look at a potential MMountainsouled:
It would take 10 actions max to compress and let's assume the bonuses are the same as understand a MR. If odd/esoteric runes specialty pocs which it might because this is a deep magic related rune, we'd get -1 down to 9. Runelord puts us at 8. Soul of the earth will proc on it and student will if the specialty does. 4 actions would output 8 and it'd be done in a turn.

Then we go to understand it and make it a banner rune.
16-6(for compressing)-1(specialty)-1(runelord)-1(armor) = 7 left, done in 4 actions. Wait a second...

- +1 progress to Understand: Master Rune of Purification, new totals: [Cost: (16 -6(Self made) -1(Exceptional Specialty) -1(Runelord) -1(Talismanic Version) =7 actions]

Shouldn't this be 6 actions left? 7 after the reductions then +1 from the action spent?

It was times like these that she was thankful for the financial literacy she'd learned from her Clan, otherwise, she wondered how she'd make it to the next month, let alone plan for years in advance. It was that same financial literacy that helped her understand just how much it cost to be a Runesmith. Broggi One-eye's commission was the largest she'd gotten to date and it was only enough to get her through half a decade. Much of the gold she'd earn wouldn't even get eaten up by her living expenses either, no it was all being funnelled into her research!

The cost in reagents, material, the money not gained from doing commissions, it all piled up into a terrible beast that threatened to swallow her savings whole.
I do not believe that funnelled should be spelled with two l's.

I have to say, this perspective is just fascinating. Even when we were, errr, 570 ish, at the start of the Quest anyways. Money had ceased to become a concern to our objectives and we didn't really need to to take commissions out of a financial need. Money has only become less and less relevant since. Even now we only really take commissions because Cool, though we have taken some in order to get favors needed for Research.

I can't imagine how difficult it was for Snorri as a Journeyman.

Edit: Hm, it might actually be spelled with 2 l's. Here in America I am pretty sure it is spelled with one, but it may be different in Britain? Apparently Cambridge acknowledges the 2 L spelling.

[x][Elgi]: A figure in a mix of scale and plate mail that smells of fire and soot.
[x] Purification: Armor

It's important that we make hermetically sealed power armor. Because when chaos decides that an indirect attack shall be tried all they shall hear before we cave in their heads is a large grumbling "Harrumph!"

... how was Snorri able to afford training Jargrim?

I mean, sure, he was a Master Runesmith at the time, but he wasn't even two centuries old. I can't imagine that he got many commissions at that age.

Bah!

Edit: Hm, other Masters probably release their apprentices earlier than Snorri. Certainly not two decades long, but Snorri probably does a Lot to make sure they're prepared due to how unprepared he was as an apprentice.

@soulcake, how much of each Understand a Master Rune action is likely to be understanding a Rune conceptually? Like, it would appear that we're figuring out, Ok, so line 34 controls degree of heat in the third stage, and I have X amount of wiggle room to play with that, sort of thing. The function of the Rune. But if we want to understand things like, what does the Rune consider impure? Where are the impurities going? - will we need all five parts? Will more be revealed along the way? Or will we get the conceptual understanding first time?
