On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Yes: You will take her, and have your older apprentices play a part in her learning, under your watchful eye of course. [Cost: Lock both apprentice actions for 3 turns where you gain 1 back until your older apprentices graduate] [Gain: Snerra Magnasdottir, 18-year-old Prodigy would-be Runesmith]

I'm curious now, @soulcake how good/prodigious was Snorri as an apprentice?

I'm guessing somewhere between Dolgi and Snerra, out of our limited sample pool. Whether that lands on Fjolla or not, shrug. Not sure.

[X] Yes: You will take her, devoting the effort necessary to train this young prodigy into a proper runesmith. [Cost: Lock 1 action for minimum 6 turns] [Gain: Snerra Magnasdottir, 18-year-old Prodigy would-be Runesmith]

In terms of skill, there technically is no need to teach the girl directly. She will almost certainly learn just as well from the apprentices as from Snorri himself. However, I want dwarf Santa and his niece to be close. I think him teaching her runes personally is really sweet (albeit these are Dawi, so it'll seem abusive by petty Umgi standards). As the one who introduced runes to her, got her interested, got her tested and championed her cause? There's narrative weight to also being the one to teach her.

TL;DR - I like the symbolism and I want fluff.

In the intro:
You would prove them correct, a journeyman in 20 years, a master in 60 and the vaunted rank of Runelord in only a short 180 years? The Longbeards would tell you that it was far too fast for any dwarf to achieve, but it only took one tale of your deeds to make them grumble a tad bit quieter.

I think you have the wrong idea about what having the apprentices involved does. Snorri is still going to be heavily involved in teaching even if they help.

I roll for the power of each apprentice's gift.

Dolgi is 7, Fjolla is 9, Snerra is higher.

As for Snorri, his natural skill was at a 7, effort got him where he was, his productivity was always pretty high.
A hard working self made Runelord, who got through with sheer will, going around and teaching would be prodigies, alongside a mini me

So was Snorri a product of hard work overcoming his slightly lower natural gift? I'm going to assume that even with a higher gift, not many runesmiths can end up becoming a master.

Honestly, I hope the currently winning decision of not having our apprentice teach does not result in huge difficulties in getting our previous apprentices to past their wisdom to the next generation of apprentices. Unless the thread for some reason, believe that the continuation of the line of master-apprentice transmission from us is not something we should pursue. Because I really don't want the hard-won insights we have steadily wrested to be lost to our Hold, nor to the Karaz Ankor in the long run. And short of Snori eventually somehow bucking his instincts and preserving encrypted records that worthy enough Runesmiths can decipher.... doing what we can to encourage Master to apprentice transmission seems to be the best bet.

Sad that Thrungi rolled so low on his perception check for this diamond in the rough :( but yeah, since Soulcake said that having the apprentices help teach little Snerra won't hurt, I'd say this is pretty good, giving us back an action and all

Doesn't really matter how nice a person someone else is. Watching someone decades your junior effortlessly completely exercise you struggled with, catch up to you, and then surpass what you've learned, burns.
definitely true.

It was mostly a joke as I roll for their relationship with eachother and have modifiers given their traits, experiences and personality.
