  • [x] Kazumi:
-[x] Defer to Mami's experience to decide whether to keep focusing on mental protection this enchantment session, of if Umika's power is sufficient.
-[x] Fill Kazumi in about Fukushima. Hiring them to contain Airi, the mutual defense pact, their apparent and stated motives.
--[x] You'll probably invite them to join for Tokyo too.
    [x] Contact Yuki:
-[x] Fill her in about Tokyo. You'll want to discuss them in more detail tomorrow, but for now:

*looks at fursona discussion*

wat
See this is exactly why I'm suggesting it as a lichbomb derailer.

It goes straight from "Oh god this is horrible" to "This is just too absurd to process anymore."

Am I right or am I right? Eh? eh? :V

(Okay, but seriously I don't think it would work in every circumstance but it does feel like that kind of sheer absurdity could get someone through it if deployed at the right time and place.)

You know this discussion is making me imagine Sabrina making friends with a furry meguca, and they draw Sabrina's fursona unprompted and interpret them as a crow.

And Sabrina puts two and two together, freaks out, and entirely ghosts the fuck out of the conversation.

I'm of the opinion that the hardcore transhumanists- those who'd be ecstatic about the lichbomb, and would eagerly abandon their meatsack for something better- aren't often targeted by the bunnycat for contracts. It wants witches, after all. (Although, throwing the transhumanist meguca's views back in her face in the worse way possible could prompt a grief spiral.)

Kyubey plays the long game. How quickly an individual magical girl witches if they witch is less important than how likely they are to witch compared to how likely they are to gemsmash. If the transhumanist megucas are more likely to be thoughtful and work out how to keep their soul gems safe and thus survive until eventually something else in their lives or just plain grief seed scarcity causes them to witch out then they'd be a great deal!

The lichbomb is just one source of despair among many, Kyubey hardly needs to rely on it.

Feathers aside I'd be happy to have someone interpret my fursona as a crow. They're very very smart animals, quite possibly sapient. And Rue is the best.

I never said that the high SAN rolls would do better... recall the tragedy of Sayaka the fool.

Eh...

Kind of like you're on the steamboat in the original call of cthulhu and just as things start to unroll you start talking about Nyarko-chan and how Luhy is your waifu.

You know, 5 years ago I would have said no, but gender transition really does give you a weird feeling of 'I made this myself', doesn't it?

Soon I shall finish casting off these accidents of birth and shackles from God, and become more powerful than you can even imagine
yeah transitioning tends to give you a new view on the relationship between self and body.
Basically I expect we're going to see an explosion of morphological freedom as soon as magical girl society escapes from subsistence living.

How far do you think magical girls can push healing magic and the soul/body interface, do you think?
the soujos prove that magical girls can just decide to make something else their new body, not sure who owned the body originally but either luka or ayase abandoned their own body in orser to cohabitate with her sister. it wouldn't be out of the question for things quickly turning into an eclipse phase senario with meguca modifying their bodies or even body hopping
on a darker side it wouldn't be unimaginable that there is already a meguca out there who is stealing the bodies of muggles or whatnot. which is honestly a terrifying proposition

Because one alien deaf to our plight is quite enough for me, let's hope this remains just a metaphor in PMAS. So, mere distraction is not entirely going to cure the Lichbomb?
OTOH, what change in attitude regarding all humans could be beneficial? As kids, the average Magical Girl inherits lots of truths that they don't consider. Upon becoming informed, one may change how emotion is assigned. Sabrina has no problem, because of the different way we see the world.
Maybe finding the words to make this desirable are needed? Some girls will never accept any positive reference, but the ones who do might surprise us. Personal reasons are possible, even if we can't make a general formula for them.

If you're thinking of the shrinking bottle, that was also one of Niko's magical technologies, because, topically, being a crafting build with Creation-element magic she's also bar none the most skilled enchantress we currently know.
Thanks, yes. Piling up "dead" bodies isn't the aesthetic we need, and moving the operation around is easier with portable stasis.

In the Worm crossover, wasn't Sabrina's immediate idea for a cape costume a crow mask? :thonk:

....
For a second I thought that Homura was scared because Madoka was getting information. Then I realized that, no, Homura is just maximum lesbian and Madoka basically flopped on her.
And, we can Never Tell Kirika of This. D'aw.

I take from this part of the scene something rather more complex. Positive outcome, given the conditions going into it!
Homura has multiple issues that cause her reduced self-worth. Some of them are original, and some derive from the loops. Add into this her starting plan, the idea that creating distance between her and Madoka would be worth the sacrifice... Lots of Homura's buttons got pushed, all at once. I sure. Am. Glad. We had her talk about involving Madoka first, so there was some preparation for the combat anxiety portion to get dialed down.

Nostalgia, fear, human contact, self-hate, comfort, more fears, a bit of love, regret, social anxiety, self-control fears, all at once.
Two things happened well!

One, she did it. Not that Homura asked for this in any way, but it happened. It was a mixed experience that included something wonderful, and Homura did not reject what happened.
Two, there was no bad consequence. She can't mistake that, because there was zero consequence. Her rehab isn't over by a long shot, but this is letting her re-train herself. Twice, years ago, it was alright 'to have friends.' How long has she been -looking- as an outsider at friends who could not touch her socially in any way? This is better.

That effort we put into running up the hug meter is producing a result.

Given the very cleverly established situation and connections between the two, Madoka could eventually do most of the heavy lifting to bring Homura back all by herself. But there are two reasons it needs to be the Sabrina way. The time available inside the loop has always been too short, and we all want a balanced result, not a Devil.
Having super-awkward feels intrude without warning, and being safe when that happens, are exactly the seemings of how to fix everything. Homura should probably timestop without us for a few hours to sift out her feelings right now. Magical Girls can improve on standard adolescence with Magic!

Knowing yourself is powerful. What is Oriko's alt? Kirika's? Owl and Badger?

It's not strictly an animal theme. Sabrina went with plague doctor because that's the role she plays in Worm, and the bird thing was probably a bonus. I'm pretty sure the Kures would stick with their existing wedding theme, just with a more opaque veil on Oriko and a mask on Kirika.

... and if sticking to older materials, an oilcloth workman's apron for Kirika over the tux. Her tendency to make a mess might as well be accepted.

Oh,

Also important: What is the relationship between the soul's fursona and an individual's patronus? Identical? Mostly independent? In a committed relationship? Druid and animal companion?

We should bring this up to Niko and Homura next time we're discussing the topic. Even if they declare it useless as emergency mood leavener, I want to see their reactions. Also, I bet Niko would know what we were talking about. :V

Hmm. I'd like to work out our schedule for the next few days. Some of our more successful time periods in the quest so far were ones where we took the time to plan things out ahead of time.

Here's my preliminary schedule, but I'm very much open to suggestions. ( @The Phoenixian 's point about doing witchbomb related things Friday is well made.)

Today:
• Enchantment practice.
• Discuss Oriko.
• Brainmail groups in prep for future actions.

Tomorrow (Friday):
Morning:
• Meet with the Fukushima Mercenaries.
• Discuss dewitching progress.
• Try to therapy Airi.
• Discuss Tokyo in more detail.
• Have Fukushima share their general "contacts list".
• Meet with the other Fukushima Groups, distribute Clear Seeds.

Lunch:
• Have fun with our friends.

Afternoon:
• Check the Shiogama refugees Witchbomb status.
• Additional dewitching science.
• Sayaka will probably make her decision about the secret by this point.
• Check on Sasa?

After School:
• Go with Sayaka to Kyouko's training.
• Try to clear the air with Kyouko in general.

Saturday:
Morning:
• Go shopping with Mami.
• Open a bank account in prep for meeting with Hitomi's family.
• Deal with other administrative things?
• Contact Mika and ask about magical girls in business.

Afternoon:
• Time permitting, make a trip to provide Clear Seeds to a group?

Evening:
• Meeting with the Shizuki's.

The current discussion is making me half-want to write an AU where Sabrina wished to be a furry and Firn had to figure out how to bullshit-potential that into being as rad-awesome as Griefbending.
