If the readers really determined Sabrina's character, she would spend lunch hanging off the side of the building listening to everyone else talk.

The readers don't determine Sabrina's character. The votes and discussion determined Sabrina's character. She's not a blank slate any more, and hasn't been for quite some time now. Which is why things went the way they did with <THE FORBIDDEN ONE>. Votes and discussion can still influence her, but she has her own intrinsic spirit separate from all those that have gone into her.

  • [X] It's not just getting her away from her parents, it's being with you that's better for her. You know, you're the first person to have cared about her. You're important to her. She trusted you enough to defy you just now, and that doesn't come easily. She's a magical girl, with all that entails, and she needs someone who she can trust, someone who cares about her.
[X] Both of you deserve better than you've gotten from the world. I don't want either of you to have to scrabble for a life, Kyouko -- that's another reason why I'm paying you to train Sayaka. Heck, if I thought I could get you to agree to it, I'd set both of you up in an apartment like I have for some other magical girls who I met recently. There are ways to make it so Yuma could go back to school, too.
[X] And if it was just about "not being a shithead", I happen to know that Yuma's grandparents aren't the assholes her mother was. Maybe we could look into that. But if what you're looking for is a reason to cut her out of your life, then knowing what I know, I really don't think being separated from the first person she's ever been able to trust would be good for her.
[X] Talk with Kyouko while keeping an eye out.
    [X] Deny Kyouko's self-condemnation. You believe she's a good person.
    [X] Kyouko's become Yuma's role model.
-[X] You can't overstate how important, how good this is to Yuma.
-[X] It's not something anyone can be. Kyouko is special, and Yuma needs her.
[X] Ask Kyouko to see this as a chance. You trust her, you know she won't do wrong by Yuma.
[X] You don't want them to live on the streets either. There's options*.
[X] Finish the Hunt before talking further.
    [X] *Options:
-[X] Let Kyouko know about Yuma's grandparents, and why she hasn't called them.
-[X] You can rent them a place. Even have someone 'hack' Yuma's way back into school.

The things we need to say, Godwinson did in spades.

Vote needs another refinement!
Our next actions during the hunt ought to be considered as part of the conversation, and understood just as wisely.

Kyouko wants to do the unified mind-body de-stress and cognition thing. So what is our plan, reading what she says?

first,
[X] Godwinson

Certainly, we don't hard-compete here. I'd also say "letting" her be superior isn't the right message to send either. Kyouko says "she doesn't know how to ask for help anymore." So, show her how to feel the friendship as martial artists. Give, but give in her setting, and do it at high speeds without talking. Receive when appropriate, don't be disconnected.

What does this look like in action? As "pure" melee fighters go, we have only yet begun in years. It would seem that we don't rate standing with her. But barriers are our advantage terrain.

We are far more mobile, have good sensor capability (if we use our SCIENCE wits!) and use some of the best defense in the business. Our two current finishing moves should be reserved, as we want to be more social during the hunt. Dissoluzione and Prima are one-girl acts, which are fine to use as a safety measure, but are not what we would rather choose here.

This is a speed run!
Our best combination of "safe fighting" "complete mitigation of familiars" and "Showing off in a good way" is to stick to proper basics. Be smart, and take down everything as a group, aiming for a win with overwhelming tempo. Don't let the witch have time to mess with the plan. Sabrina can do close support / field monitor / scout at the same time through applications of her powers. Yuma can do zone, and Kyouko can supply main DPS, which lets them work in something similar to their normal routine.
Mostly, Sabrina should plow up the familiars to control their positions, and make the job much better for the other two girls. Some sort of sonic dash should be possible? Or just make a wedge of blades to lash out and smash with in a 25 meter zone? Trust them to finish the enemies that we weaken at very high speeds. Advance quickly, change course in unexpected ways. Use our Grief sense to manage the tactical movements for avoidance of slow or disadvantaged fights, and rampage over weaker enemies using combos until no obstacles remain. Counter the Witch's smoke environment to improve our efficiency. Basically, show Yuma how well you can all be as a team. Kyouko doesn't need convincing per-se. This fight is a "future modeling" event, her street experience already has us figured out.

"Why me?" Kyouko asks quietly. Yuma shifts, quiet and hunched in on herself. Scared. "Why us? The squirt needs someone t' look out for her. I don't."

You shrug, looking out at the blurred world beyond the walls of the privacy field.

"Because I care," you say.

"No, I mean... why? How?" Kyouko says.

"Oh," you say, and shrug again. "Honestly, that's a damn good question. I'd really like to know myself."

Kyouko stares at you.

You look right back at her, meeting dusky crimson eyes with your own sky blue.

"You're crazy," she says finally. "You know that, right?"

"Eh," you say. "I prefer quirky."

Depending on others is really scary from her position. A smart girl like her would rather not make bets without a reason. All our good treatment of her counts too, but her knowledge of us needs a credibility boost from this fight. It might not be the last time we have to put our money down to make a point, and that's why we like Kyouko, right?

I still think the grandparents thing is going to go bad...

Even if not immediately, kyoukos is going to try and get Yuma to stay with them.

Which makes me... I'd rather not put them through that.
