due to RL stuff I'm not able to keep up with the present debate as it stand so...

We should turn off the privacy field (while in timestop) before we leave it. We don't want Riona to have any time in which she's not watched even if we're in timestop, just in case she's somehow brought into it.

I'd also pick up some kind of soul protection just in case she's fast enough to counter-attack while we're ambushing her. It's unlikely from what we've seen that she'll be capable of it but I don't think it costs us anything to spend a few minutes making a new item.
If she is brought into timestop, the privacy field would keep her from interacting with her shades... though I guess she could still do things inside the field.

I'm not certain we can make soul protections, nor that it wouldn't take overly long while everyone's in timestop... We were gonna try and make such a thing but then we had guests and then Riona arrived.

Once we're in timestop, we could ask Homura for private timestop time, just her and us, and try and make anything we might need?

I hope that the alpha-strike plan works, but it doesn't sit right with me.

Part of it is that we're acting dishonorably.
Part of it is that Riona can read our soul and won't be surprised by the attack.
Part of it is that this is going to wreck our global reputation.
Part of it is that we've got a prophecy that Riona spends several days after this making sneak attacks on our territory, and I suspect the treachery we're about to commit is what triggers those sneak attacks.

[X] Your power is to enslave and torment other magical girls?
- [X] If you continue on this path, it will lead to conflict between us in future.
[X] But for now, you came to Mitakihara in peace, and we'll ask you to leave in peace.
- [X] If we can get your word to leave Mitakihara in peace, we'll drop the shield and escort you to the airport.
[X] add to TODO list: develop soul shielding, liberate Edinburgh.

Regarding the alpha-strike plans, may I suggest putting fewer conditionals into the vote?
Like, all we should need for the next update is to know how we're getting into timestop.
Once we're in timestop successfully, we can have a separate vote about how specifically to do the ambush.
All these contingencies can be handled by "...and if Riona does something unexpected, break to vote."

So your saying if we DO gank her give her an ultimatum?

A: the GM has already made it clear that we're not allowed to let her just leave because it's OOC.
B: She attacked first with mind control, and is also a necromancer/slaver multiclass who isn't even a tiny bit sorry or willing to stop
C: If the world disapproves of attacking people who attack us first who are also evil necromancers, the world can screw off (Also really magical girls get their shit kicked in by other magical girls all the time this is hardly newsworthy)
D: And right now she has absolutely zero reason at all to not attack us the moment this conversation ends and she's not clearly at a disadvantage.

When in doubt, ask Mami. Would that work, @Redshirt Army?

[X] Act. Visibly restrain yourself. Agree verbally to leave her alone, but ask what she tried to do, first. Keep Riona unbalanced.
[X] At the same time, signal Mami to tag you and Homura and have Homura activate her magic.
-[X] If Riona is somehow included in timestop:
--[X] Act first: Detain Riona with Grief Fog, take the Gem, threaten to break it.
--[X] If anything goes wrong, no holds barred. Purée her. Save the Gem unless Riona still tries to attack.
--[X] Otherwise, continue.

[X] In timestop:
-[X] Consult Mami on the danger of tripping Riona's shades. Explain briefly. Employ Grief hax if needed.
-[X] Leave, convene with Mami and Homura.
--[X] Make sure Riona remains time-stoped at all times.
--[X] Things went wrong, get Sayaka and go to Oriko's. Insist if needed.
--[X] Get Kirika to enchant everything you might need to antimagic Riona, Gem and body.
--[X] Explain eveything. Avoid Social Bombs.
-[X] Plan (listen to opinions):
--[X] Blast Riona and her surrounding area with Anti Magic (Sayaka and Kirika).
--[X] Use Anti Magic restraints on Riona and her Gem.
--[X] Restrain Riona completely.
--[X] Mami and Homura know their roles better than you do.
-[X] Enact plan.

[] If Riona's successfully restrained, don't drop timestop:
-[] You need sayaka to try copying her magic, but before bringing that up, you need to ask her whether she decided to learn the 'secret' or not.

Tentative last line, I dont know if it's too much to add just like that.

Mami then asks Homura what to do.
Homura prays to Madokami for guidance.
Madokami wonders why people are asking *her* and gives it back to Sabrina.
Sabrina is confused.
What if every time someone prays to meguca goddess, Madoka gets a call in her cellphone? :thonk:

Then someone pulls a smart and prays to meguca goddess' mom. For a certain value of smart.

Yeah that would work, there's a decent list of stuff we could use that might make the difference between a complete stomp and our team suffering casualties.

I mean it's a timestop. Length of time doesn't really matter and I'm sure Homura would accommodate us spending time trying to develop an enchantment that prevents our souls being torn apart.

When in doubt, ask Mami. Would that work, @Redshirt Army?

Maybe try to find a way to spot shades before any unnecessary movement? Assuming shades are invisible and intangible that is, I don't think we have any confirmation about just what a shade is other than it being an enslaved soul.

Personally I think the real danger is getting hit by Riona's soul rip, or more scarily Mami getting hit by it (or some other soul attack). The shades seem scary more because Homura might accidentally step on one and somehow bring Riona into the timestop, which seems unlikely since Riona isn't getting any feedback from them. Admittedly we don't have much info so it's difficult to say just what the real threats are and we are pretty grossly overpowered.

'Explain eveything. Avoid Social Bombs.'
should be spelt everything
Make sure Riona remains time-stoped at all times.
time-stopped

So I know better than to take this at face value, but:

Rionna is, design-wise, a two-part character. She's got useful powers that you can't replicate.

Supposedly, we can't replicate Riona's powers. I doubt Sayaka can copy her.

Not just for that, but while I wouldn't have Sayaka try and copy Riona while Riona has her own magic active, because that's dangerous, I have a feeling copying won't work while Riona's Anti-Magicked.

I'd have Sayaka get carefuly and gently Witchbombed (if she agrees) and then have her try to copy an Anti Magicked Riona, but I don't think it'll actually work.

Junko: [Answers phone] Hello? OH Hello - Sabrina right?
Sabrina: [Looks at phone] .... ... huh I don't know how to deal with this
*Later*

*Red faced*

"Sabrina, what did you do?"

"Nothing?" *Lies very unconvincingly*

"I just had a talk with my mom."

"That's nice..."

"About teenage motherhood."

"... It's great you're looking out for Kyouko-"

"Sabrina."

*Disappointed*

"..."

"Go to your room."

"What-"

"To you room, young lady!"

"Yes, ma'am!

*Goes to her room*

"And comb your hair! You were just flying around, weren't you? This is all wrong. Mami! Why are there so few chairs around here? We need to get more for you and Sabrina. Honestly, and we need to get her enrolled in school, too..."

*Nods along and is totally on board*

*Sighs*

"Great. She's got one of her phases."

"What."

"Oh, right. You haven't know Madoka that long, somehow, I forget."

"What."

"Sometimes, she gets like this... look, she's already planning which chair to get for everyone, come on, hurry up or they'll leave us behind!"

*Hurries up*

"What."

"The chair salesman can't fend off Madoka on his own, hurry up!"

"... What?!"

"... Psst."

"What?"

*Peeks around the doorframe of her room*

"It's you chance."

"What?"

"Homumom and Mado-kaasan..."

"..."

*Closes door*

*Stays rooted to the spot, filled with panic and fright, wrestling with confused, chaotic emotions and fears, contemplating every mistake in her life and her uncertain future. Hears Walpurgisnacht's laught at the back of her head. Thinks of Madoka and herself and the implications of possibly magically being moms of the same weirdo magical daughter. Blushes. Blames the entire universe for being unfair. Has second thoughts. Jerks and self doubts, and wonders what she's thinking. Has third thoughts. Ignores panicked telepathy call from Sayaka demanding she helps keep Madoka from tearing apart the poor chair salesman's ego. Has fourth toughts. The universe has become an endless, looping fiery path of loneliness and longing, dark storm clouds-*

Homura shakes herself, or tries to, trying to dispel those thoughts. She got through that phase a long, long time ago.

Then her mind catches up with the fact she feels immobilized and enveloped by something warm, and looks up at Sabrina, who stands humming idly while holding Homura in a hug.

After a few seconds, Sabrina realizes Homura's looking at her and smiles.

"You looked so small and lonely there, I couldn't help myself. You OK?"

Homura looks thoughtful.

"No," she buries her head against Sabrina shoulder and lets out a muffled scream.

"Better?"

"Better."

I know this is a bit late but...

If it comes down to it, it's not honoring my word to monsters that gives my word value. Personally, I think that'd be backwards.

Either your word is bond, or it isn't.

Saying "it's okay because she's monstrous" sets a very bad precedent

Most people are only going to care that you broke your word and not give teo shits about who you broke it to, remembering that by Magical Girl standards, Rionna is very far from the worst monster out there, and even tries to be discerning about her targets.

Anyway, switching vote

...Firn literally vetoed that vote. What are you trying to accomplish by voting for it anyway?

@Onmur

Sabrina's griefhax can let her see souls. This is what we used to examine Oriko's wish rejection. Since Firn already confirmed that Rionna's power traps actual souls, we can use griefhax to sense her shadows. Ez pz.
From what I remember, the Grief hax only allowed Sabrina to show others what her magic sight can already see, normally. Though I think that was a WoG, not an In Universe statement, so I don't think I'm gonna find a quote before going to sleep.

So conundrum.

Don't want Sayaka to copy Riona while Riona has her magic active, because that's dangerous.

Don't think Sayaka can copy Riona while Riona's magic is suppressed, but willing to try, if only...

Don't want Sayaka to copy Riona before being properly Witchbombed, because copying Riona's power is too likely to Witchbomb her, harshly.

Don't want to pressure Sayaka to get Witchbombed. May have to? (Pull her aside in timestop and ask if she decided to learn the secret we've been keeping?)

Don't want to abandon the shades, even thought I feel the chance to help them, even if Sayaka manages to copy Riona, is diminute. Maybe non-existant, what with supposedly not being able to replicate Riona's power.

It's a bit different from "let her go as-is" she gets a warning, and we prepare to deal with properly

Also It's pretty much the only vote left thst doesn't operate on the assumption that we're going to attack her outright
it's still letting her go, and threatening her first only primes her to hurt Sabrina, her friends, and any civilians she cares to use as hostages. It's literally putting everything Sabrina cares about at risk for literally no reason. She'll just turn around and attack us.

At the very least, Sayaka being unable to copy Rionna promises to be an interesting data point. Either she can't copy powers from someone unwilling, or it's not just our powers that are DRM locked. Both have interesting implications.
I think I'll be happy if we don't do something dumb like try to have Sayaka copy Riona while she still's got her magic active. That'd be a way to snach defeat from the jaws of victory. :V

Still, Sayaka wasn't exactly having an wasy time with the question we left her. What are the odds she's ready and willing to be Witchbombed? Because that would be really great right now.

Well, I'll sleep and see what happened tomorrow.

So here's a question:

At what point is the price of doing the right thing too much to pay?

We have prophecy telling us that if we handle this wrong, all our friends will die

Is it really so surprising that I'm wary of antagonizing this girl?

How many different arguments are going to switch to to justify letting a serial killer go? Also, if you're so afraid she kills all our friends, then you shouldn't let her go so she can go do that! Seriously. I'm starting to think you just want to see her let go no matter what it means for anyone, because she is clearly deeply pissed at us already and if we did leave her alone I'd bet money she's only out of our hair for long enough to plan an ambush/take a shitload of hostages.
