A key point here is first making sure if Kyouko is willing to make peace with Mami. If, according to Kyouko, their relationship is damaged beyond repair then we wouldn't set up a lie for Mami.

It shouldn't be much trouble as metaknowledge and Homura agree they are willing to make peace.

What to do with, with a cornered Kyouko?

Who feels her need for self-reliance slighted, who doesn't like owing anything to anyone, yet she feels she owes too much...

Sabrina is going to have to sign off of IRC with "gtg international diplomacy" and it's going to be hilarious to see the reactions.

Also: instead of just signing in to IRC using a library computer, get an AWS or GCE free instance and run the IRC client on that. Having history saved is a major win.

Do we really want to put out that we're a grief controller on a public forum?

We're liable to get disbelief, or banned for trolling, and even if we don't, it's public, we'd be putting out information out in a manner that's completely uncontrolled. We're not at the stage where I think that's particularly safe yet.

Okay, for this, I think it's important to consider that Kyouko feels she's obligated to us.

It's worth saying we don't want her to owe us a favor, and give her a chance to refuse to be held in obligation but if she feels she does and should I kinda think we should respect that.

Though I'll also note our reasoning isn't really true here: We're demonstrated that we're very much the sort who would do this for anyone, not just a friend. Kinda messes with the point a bit, I think.

Kyouko had a pretty negative reaction to the idea of joining us to fight Walpurgisnacht before, and I don't want her to feel like we blackmailed her into it. I think she might respond better to us asking her to find witches for us in Mitakihara. And we can put it like that, so it's less like charity and more like her being our tracker: we wouldn't make her face them alone anyway, so she's handling the finding and then we'll send in a team.

Not... exactly. What Kyouko didn't like was that we delivered the info about Walpurgisnacht like a recruiting pitch*. And she was right on that point, and so we apologized and clarified our point. As I understand Kyouko still hasn't decided if she'll join the battle against Walpurgisnacht.

* as Homura sort-of said Kyouko values honesty, so a recruiting pitch underhandedly disguised as a warning (or so it seemed like) is something she dislikes

We may request Kyouko's help, or she may chose to join the battle on her own initiative (as a way to repay us?) but I don't think either of the is the way to deal with Kyouko's feelings of obligation towards us.

Again, tho, if she didn't like getting a recruiting pitch, I think she'd like having it presented as an obligation even less. It's practically extortion. "I can save your family home, if you do a little something for me."

Whereas if we can get her to work with us and form friendships with the team, then she might just decide to do it because she feels too attached to abandon us. Interpersonal connections are what keep people from fleeing a battle, not ideals or obligations.

And I don't disagree. I'm just claiming that, while I don't want to be happen that way, if we keep dismissing Kyouko's feelings of obligation she may choose to joing the fight agains Walpursignacht because she won't find any other way to repay us.







Anyway, I'd like Kyouko to feel that obligation repayed before that fight. I think asking Kyouko to give a real attempt to mend bridges with Mami may count*, but only if Kyouko believes their friendship can be salvaged**.

* I'd count because Kyouko wouldn't make the first attempt to reconciliate
** I don't want to give Mami a lie
