At some point, I want us to gather up a bunch of potentially useful projectiles for launch and keep them in 4-space storage. Also, finally test our grief mass driver idea (inside a barrier, for safety). We need to hunt some witches anyway, really. Maybe take a Sayakaclone along to do it after lunch, during school?

I'd like to get that Oriko and Kirika discussion we already scheduled out of the way, first. It's Wednesday, so Sayaka has training with Kyouko after school - we should probably check on Kyouko to see how that discussion with Nakano went before then as well.
I'd like to visit O&K, better get it done while we'reon our own, too. Except maybe for the part where we ned to talk alone with Kirika. Doesn't feel right to not bring Sabrina's Ojou to keep Kirika's Ojou company. :p

At any rate, I'm not certain at what time O&K tend to wake up, though I remember they were still asleep that time we did the maid thing.

Hijiri went... ok I think? Strong dislike, but I don't see Sabrina overstaying in her call.

@Firnagzen , has school started yet? To know we aren't interrupting Hitomi asking for her mother's cell phone number, otherwise it can wait until lunch.

It takes quite a bit of chivvying and the alarm blaring before you manage to get Mami shambling off towards the bathroom while you head to the kitchen with a promise of not starting on breakfast without her.

Lunch, of course, is an entirely different matter.

Sabrina the Lawyer. Now that's what I call a good way to farm Grief.

"Just fine," she snaps. "Go away. I don't need a mother."

[Q] "Don't you dare to use that kind of tone on me, young lady! Now, eat your vegetables and go to your room! You are so grounded!"

The Hijiri talk went... not surprisingly well, since it's not like we achieved anything much, but it went surprisingly not bad. :V

When's a good time to poke the Shiohama girls and see how they're doing? Or is that already scheduled?

Also, are there any plans to see them in the weekend and get them acquainted with the pecking order Mitakihara crew?

Lastly... Is anyone tracking the last time we saw Nagisa?

Three days since we've talked with Nagisa, or four, I think.

There's so many meguca we need to check on, but they're all probably sleeping.

Damn them for not being horrible morning people. :p

We achieved something, small as it is: either made Hijiri aware of "Grief can be a problem" or got confirmation of Hijiri's knowing that already (not sure which one, but as far as Hijiri knows it isn't really important).

Also, seeing Hijiri not really/fully hate us seeing how she reacted when we offered to give her an update on Anri.

Honestly I just absolutely love the quiet romantic domesticity that is everyday life in the Tomoe-Vee household. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Pigeons are basically winged rats.

Their reputation is unfairly bad, they don't actually spread diseases to humans under normal conditions, they're incredibly smart by animal standards, and they make excellent pets.

In fact, pigeons are among the first animals humans domesticated, and up until about a century ago it was the pigeon, not the chicken, that was the big source of cheap bird meat for most people.

They have too many little bones in them.

Less crunch in the noms, mwargh? }=o)

But, no, yeah, so, as for everything and my as always long response to it-

This chapter really just makes me smile, I dunno, good morning is good morning (and a good chapter to have woken up to in my notifications). Nothing is visibly and immediately about to be on fire within Sabrina's (and thus our) sphere of influence! Good way to start the day.

Oyakodon for breakfast. Quick, simple, and no fuss at all if a bit morbid. Simmered chicken and egg on rice, parent-and-child bowl.

... **becomes reminded of the Egg Incident** Sabrina, nooooooo... **quiet mwargh-ing**

You debate making little Kyuubey riceballs to chomp on, but on the other hand, that's probably still too sore a spot for Mami. On the other hand, that means you can only imagine Homura's face as she watches Madoka chew on Kyuubey heads.

that means you can only imagine Homura's face as she watches Madoka chew on Kyuubey heads.

We must do this someday. We gotta.

(... while I have been assured it may be heresy, I have put strawberry jam in riceballs before. Because jelly doughnuts reference, because I could. But in this context... Well, joke-options for Kyubey often include nomming. Now featuring a squishy red-flavored center?)

(... now I feel like I gotta do this. What have you done, Firn, what have you done.)

"Uh. Still up or just awake?" you ask, beaming at Mami across the table as you eat. She smiles right back.

"What time is it?" Niko says.

"Still up, then," you conclude.

I know that feel, Niko. I know that feel. I've been trying to say "good morning" at around 7pm for the past week and a half, even when I've woken up at a normal time in the morning. Don't fall into that hole Niko. Not even for SCIENCE!

**cue Niko creating a Coffee Engine, and the world trembling before her**

You feel more than hear Niko's sigh. "What I want is for us all to disappear into a rock somewhere," she mutters.

Is she awake enough to quite realize the irony of that comment?

I mean, or they could go procure a nice mountain secret base. Maybe take note from the meguca with the volcano base? }=o)

... there is a pigeon perched on her hair, garnering her some odd looks. It doesn't even seem discomforted by vigorous waving.

Sayaka. Sayaka no. Sayaka, we are not starting the pigeon revolution against the bourgeoisie. Or restarting the pigeon messaging services, or making a pigeon-powered internet. Sayaka, why? Also, even if you don't need to be concerned anymore about bird-borne bacteria and viruses (and, huh, just googled to check but apparently pigeons don't carry the avian flu, so, there's that), but that doesn't mean the mere mortals around you won't have some issues with this! Or at least be concerned! Sayaka, you have a Madoka and Hitomi to take care of! Think of the children! }=o)

Or I guess she could go get a pigeon and legit domesticate it and keep it reasonable-pet-levels of clean, and then have, eheh, a bird familiar of sorts. Maybe never call them that in front of her. But if it looks like a pet, and appears kept like one, rather than some random bird, it'll be a lot less concerning to the general populace...

... but I suspect if anyone is in danger of having to break the masquerade unexpectedly to anyone, it is now Sayaka. Because, really? Disney-princessing it up all in here? Discretion, Sayaka!

Madoka beams, grabbing Sayaka and Homura by the sleeves and tugging.

Now back to our regularly scheduled adorable. They are the middle school no-magic AU, for just this brief moment.

I wonder- what was the expression that Homura had, this moment? For just this brief moment?

Mami fidgets, and you smile at her, taking her hands. You lean in, and kiss her gently on the cheek. "I'll see you later," you murmur. "I promise."

"I- alright," Mami whispers, swallowing.

"I promise," you say. "And I've always kept that promise, right?"

Mami nods, and visibly forces herself to take a step back.

You force yourself to stay where you are, smiling at her and watching as she heads into the school, one step at a time.

And finally, she's out of sight. You sigh, blowing out a breath and forcing yourself to smile, trading a polite nod with the truancy officer before walking away from Mitakihara Middle School.

There's still healing to do- but one step at a time, we move forward.

"Just fine," she snaps. "Go away. I don't need a mother."

That sounds like it might have some implications about how she's viewing her relationships with her family... I dunno, I feel like the emphasis on "need" comes across as trying to convince herself of that. Or maybe I'm misreading. Still something to watch, as with everything else about Hijiri as well, but that conversation went about as expected. Not unreasonably!

But yeah, so, basically, that chapter is the goodness, like, all of it.

It appears that Sayaka has also been made aware of certain ornithological developments, so it should now be safe to assume that with the dissemination of said knowledge into the public consciousness it is no longer spoilers.

So, bullet list of things to do today, in no particular order of importance:
  • Talk with Shiogama refugees about important matters. Make it absolutely clear to them that their staying is by no means dependent on helping out with Walpy.
  • Check up on cutest little sister, Nagisa.
  • Talk with O&K. (Make sure to observe proper privacy measures.)
  • Sayaka appointment with Kyouko, follow up on her talk with Nakano.
  • Check in with Rionna, schedule a meeting time and place (with Nadia's help).
  • Research some Grief psychometry.
Relatively low priority:
  • Investigate Kuroki and Tsuchiya.
  • Figure out a time to go visit Tsubaki, maybe stop by to visit stealthguca on the way?
If there is anything missing, holler.

Also.
"Here we are," Hitomi murmurs as you arrive at the school gate. Madoka beams, grabbing Sayaka and Homura by the sleeves and tugging.

"Ah... will we see you at lunch, Sabrina?" Madoka asks.

"Mmhm!" you say, grinning. "Always do, right?"

"Yeah!" she nods enthusiastically. You all exchange farewells, and in a few moments, it's just you and Mami standing at the gates.
We should thank Madomom.

She ships it.

"It's how I make ribbons, ah, intangible?"
I wonder if she could make the path a ribbon takes to get somewhere into a superpossition.
"Does every magical girl have their own 4-space?"

Which brings to mind the notion that it might be a proto-Barrier of sorts. Ugh.
I wonder what it would look like if we looked into it while doing a soul merge with Mami...That sounded lewd for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with intamacy and what we would be looking at being our true bodies.

Actually, this is interesting; does this mean that our Soul Gem is the thing that is pushing our "space" away from the universe? And that without it there Witches need to from interfacing directly with reality? I think that we're getting into something interesting here...
... there is a pigeon perched on her hair, garnering her some odd looks. It doesn't even seem discomforted by vigorous waving.

"'morning!" you call back. The bird flutters off before you get there, and Sayaka produces a comb and starts tending to her hair down with a faintly annoyed look.
We should either get those birds to groom Sayakas hair for her or call in the Chibi Squad to get this done for her...Oh my god; she's going to pull a disney princess, and we could do the same thing with Mami and some Chibis. On a side note; i wonder if we could make some invisible Chibis using that trick that Mami told us she was using.
"Well, I'm literally on the other coast of Japan right now," you say, grinning whimiscally as you walk amongst the trees. With a loop of Grief, you scoop up a nice, smooth rock from the gentle stream, twisting it into 4-space with an effort of thought. Another thing to monitor over the day.
...Oh my Notch; this just gives me even more ideas about playing real life minecraft.
"Just fine," she snaps. "Go away. I don't need a mother."
We must visit in the most motherly clothes we can fine, while acting as motherly as we possibly can, and bring food with us while inquiring about her health.
A fleet of zeppelins hangs frozen under the grey clouds above Mitakihara, all but one suspended in the same grey as the city and sky.

"You know, I wasn't expecting this from you, Homura."

"... You offered."

"Well, Homura, when I offered you first class tickets on Mitakihara Airlines, destination: foreign military bases, I thought we would be looking for new weapons or technology. We would hack into a top-secret facility with new laser research, or borrow a carrier to contest Walpurgisnacht's air superiority-"

"'Borrow a carrier'?"

"We could have fixed Sally up before returning her."

"... You named the carrier?"

"Never mind, that's not important. What's important is that, as I flew you halfway across the globe, you said we needed zeppelins."

"..."

"Zeppelins, Homura, they're giant balloons, big ol' blimps!"

"Yes, zeppelins."

"And you wanted to field these against Walpurgisnacht."

"..."

"The witch who launches skyscrapers like bar darts."

"..."

"Just so you could look down at it from above?!"

"It feels wonderful."
Thinking about it, that is actually a rather good idea; just sort of replace the gas with a area enchantment to make particals push each other away more strongly then normal, and thus make the gas inside of it less dense, and thus have less weight, per psi, possibly replace the membrane with a force field, and you have something airborne; with how Walpurgisnacht can break things of arbitrary toughness it doesn't matter how much armor something has as long as it can function with large amounts of damage and output large amounts of damage while functional. Maybe throw in some modularity in order to make it less prone to breaking?

Also... dammit, we did it again. I had wanted to have one of the things we said to Hijiri to be the note that we didn't just contain Anri, we also talked with her. Looks like it got lost at some point.

I'm not sure if Nadia has met Rionna. She'd heard that Rionna was on the move and seemingly headed this way, but she didn't appear to have actually communicated directly with her.
Given that Nadia comments on Riona's cider making skills, (or lack therof) it seems pretty clear to me that they have, in fact, met.

I will also note that Nadia was notable unaware of Riona moving out.
"She manipulates the Soul, as you say," Nadia notes. "She is very powerful against other magical girls and Witches. I have not heard she is travelling, but it would have been within the last week?"

"About there," you agree.

"How do you know that?" Nadia inquires, frowning.

"Hello Riona, I'm Sabrina and I want to halp."

"How curious that you contacted me when I'm close to reaching your city."

"Uh... You know Nadia, right?"

"I didn't tell her I was travelling."

"... What a coincidence!"

:V

We probably can pretend we're calling just because we wanted to meet and talk about soul stuff, but she might become a tiny little bit suspicious.
