All this fluffyness, though.

It makes wonder when's the other shoe gonna drop.

Except.

In this case.

We're gonna drop the other shoe.

:/

Sabrina, you are the other shoe. :V

Oh well. Serious time. Or, as I call it:
"Time to make like an ostrich and hide my head in the sand until the next update."

Edit:

Hey, if Homura didn't fuck with the space time continuum, Madoka and Mami would be dead and Sabrina wouldn't exist!

Besides, the universe hasn't blown up.

Yet.

That depends on whether the Quest is post-Rebellion or not.

Part of why Oriko did so much shit was because she was convinced of her own death, which she prophesized 101%. But she's now rejected that, and is not a Seer anymore, because she now has the will to live, which runs opposite to what her visions showed her.

So there went one of the main reasons why Oriko was so dangerous.
I've been thinking that the current setup leads in... a bit awkwardly. I think that we want some extra motivation for why we're bothering them with O&K right now, and I think that we want a way to lead in to our argument other than just "I want fewer restrictions on O&K".

[] Discuss O&K.
-[] Respect their feelings; err on the side of caution. Stay positive.

-[] Motive: Save Oriko.
--[] She saw every path ending with her own death.
--[] She lost her powers because Kirika convinced her to reject the visions and want to live.
--[] You hope she's safe, but you don't feel it.

-[] Discuss house arrest.
--[] Ask what they want.
--[] Restitution: Financial reimbursement? Continued community service? Oriko enjoyed doing good today.
--[] Complications: Ongoing psychological harm from confinement; Mikuni mansion; Kirika's family, no defenses or backup.
--[] Alternatives: Relocation, surveillance, restricted freedom with chaperones/tracking devices? Sayaklones?
---[] If Sayaklones, can Sayaka handle it? You'd worry about them keeping their cool around each other.
--[] Justice?: Magical girls don't have laws, police, or courts. Should that change? How? When? You don't like making decrees.

-[] Tentatively propose involving more adults with the Shizukis' help. Legal experts, therapists, the Mikis...

Don't fuck with causality in Homurakumas Light Cone.
Or else.
I see someone else is a Stross fan. :D

For now...

[O]Vebyast

Only because I feel that we can better refine the plan.

Hopefully Homura will come to the conclusion that the reason we suggested protection enchantments was to have something to protect Madoka from Oriko (not entirely untrue), so she would be willing to hear us out regarding O&K. In which case, Sayaka will be the one we have to work to convince.

4 Goals of Imprisonment:

Retribution: Sayaka and the Mikis have some claim to this.
Deterrence: News spreads slowly in the magical girl world, and deterrence could almost as easily be achieved via trumped up charges so it is good not to focus on it as deterrence at this time. Telishment - Wikipedia
Incapacitation : Achieved but arguably no longer needed due to Oriko's loss of power.
Rehabilitation: Oriko has been convinced her power was leading her down counterproductive routes anyway, therefore achieved.

Good overall progress for everyone. Making enchanting practice a regular thing might be a good idea.

Seeing how everyone is just going along with 4-dimensional experimentation and the Banach-Tarski paradox I really wonder if it's just a Mitakihara thing or if everyone in Japan just learns all this stuff in school. Maybe we should check if everybody on this earth is just really good at math.

Actually. Omake time! :V

Miruka Suba loved maths. Logarithmic and integral equations cheered her through the days, high-dimensional geometrical shapes brought tears of happiness in her eyes, while matrices, oh, matrices-

There was one problem, of course: not everyone shared her fascination with this most interesting subject. How dare they call her weird for seeking solution to Fermat's Conjecture in her free time! Like she had anything better to occupy her time with, ha. No, she would leave dating and gossiping to other hormonal teenagers who couldn't list the first 63 numbers in the pi decimal even in their dreams.

It was such a waste, though. That one underclasswoman, a girl one year younger than her, wasn't really stupid, and she did make an effort to understand the mathematical problems as she explained them, something she couldn't say about most of those apes she'd been trying to educate in the past.

Really, the Japanese educational system was the real culprit here, but it was so frustrating!

What was her name? Ah yes.
Mami Tomoe.

But now. Now she had a chance to change things. The weird creature explained the process, though she mostly ignored it after discovering one simple fact: any wish, no matter how ridiculous, could come true.

She'd never been so sure of anything in her life.

"Now," Kyubei said. "Miruka, with what Wish will your Soul Gem shine?"

"I Wish for better educational system in Mitakihara Middle School! Biology, English, Literature, all of it! But most of all, maths! I Wish for better Math lessons! Now, gimme!"

A bright light coalesced around her stomach, swiftly followed with a continuous stab of pain. Through its heavy haze, she nearly missed the white creature's next words:

"Most admirable. Not only did your Soul reduce entropy, your Wish bettered the collective understanding of the mankind, as well. How efficient. If only other humans were as logical in their pursuits."

Wait, what did it mean by reducing entropy? So the lunatic they had for a physics teacher was actually right? She hated physics because of him and his wild theories!

Son of a bi-

I wonder if that could have bearing in our argument.

:/

This rings false to me: Oriko did not stop being a seer because she gained the will to live, she stopped being a seer because her visions brought nothing but despair and the certainty of death.

I think that our next course of action should be to spread our utility fog into a hypersphere. We need to explore our radius in those other dimensions and if there are any other objects there. We'll also want to look for further dimensions; 4 is good, 5 would be better.
I'll point out that we have both grief-sensors and light creation. If possible, imaging the fourth dimension and beyond may be a more efficient and longer ranged way of figuring things out.

@Onmur, Not really. At the most, the cause and effect there is backwards.
Sorry, I misread your post.

Oriko was 100% on the death and despair train. Rather, the visions were too much for her so she came to accept them, to accept she would die.

Then we painfully forced her to backtrack on that, say no to death and despair, regain the will to live, and that, running contrary to her visions, caused Wish rejection.

Accept Death and Despair -> Accept Visions -> Stay a Seer.
Deny Death and Despair -> Reject Visions -> Reject WIsh -> Stop being a Seer.

She gives the shatter-crazed glass of the coffee table a slightly guilty look, before returning her attention to you.
We should show her that we could have replaced it, or fixed it without those marks, but actually decided not to because we thought that it would look cool.

  • [X] Never mind.
[X] Discuss O&K with Sayaka and Homura:
-[X] Respect their feelings, but ask them to hear you out.
-[X] Propose making a robust Grief Lie Detector, testing it on yourselves to make sure it works, and then having Sabrina and Homura question O&K with it, to put Homura's fears to rest.
-[X] Clarify to Sayaka Oriko's original intentions with the arson, and how her precog ensured no one would suffer lasting harm. Was still wrong, but not malicious.
-[X] Discuss long term viability of house arrest:
--[X] Restitution: Financial reimbursement? Continued community service? Oriko enjoyed doing good today.
--[X] Complications: Ongoing psychological harm from confinement; Mikuni mansion; Kirika's family.
--[X] No justice system for MGs exists. Keeping prisoners expensive and difficult. Priority must be on preventing further harm, not punishment. If we can be sure O&K won't cause more trouble if not under house arrest, we must try that route. We already did this with the Sendai team, for example, and their crimes were much worse. Also, having them attend school again will keep them busy for much of the day.
--[X] If need be, escort them around via Sayaclone? Can she handle that? Wearable tracking devices?
